Sophia Bush has revealed that she and Ashlyn Harris quietly married a year ago in a surprise disclosure from the actress’s new memoir.

The One Tree Hill star, 44, and the former soccer player, 40, exchanged vows during a private ceremony in upstate New York in summer 2025. Bush shares details of the intimate wedding in her book, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress.

Bush and Harris began dating in 2023, before Bush publicly came out as queer the following year. The couple never announced an engagement and managed to keep their wedding away from the public spotlight.

That changed last week, when the pair appeared on a red carpet and proudly displayed their wedding rings.

‘When you get to this stage in your life, you begin to unpack what’s yours and what’s always sort of been for everyone else,’ Bush told Vogue while explaining why they initially chose to keep their marriage private.

After telling their family and friends, Bush said she felt ready to speak publicly about the marriage. She also admitted that referring to Harris as her ‘partner’ no longer felt right.

‘You’re not my partner, you know? You’re my wife,’ Bush told Harris. ‘And it feels so amazing to say that.’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Bush and Harris for further comment.

The intimate ceremony included the family roasting marshmallows after the vows. Harris recalled, ‘The kids were just running and happy, and we picked flowers from the property and our daughter Sloane was holding them. It was so fun for them, because it wasn’t this pressure-filled day that’s too much for young kids.’

‘It was so precious, and zero pressure. I will never forget it, and I think wedding days sometimes aren’t like that.’

The newlyweds later traveled around the country to share the news of their wedding with friends and relatives.

‘This conversation is not about Sophia and I. We know the love we share. We understand how sacred and how pure our love is,’ Harris said.

‘But the visibility piece matters, because there are still kids hiding who don’t feel seen, and if we make room and space for one person, that’s worth maybe costing us a little bit of peace in the public eye.’

The marriage is Harris’s second and Bush’s third.

Harris and Ali Krieger married in 2019 and adopted their two children together. They announced their separation in September 2023 and finalized their divorce in 2025.

Bush, meanwhile, filed for divorce from her second husband, Grant Hughes, in August 2023 after just 13 months of marriage.

She was previously married to her One Tree Hill co-star Chad Michael Murray from 2005 to 2006.

Bush has said she and Harris first met in 2019, but their relationship did not become romantic until October 2023, after both of their marriages had ended.

Nevertheless, when romance rumors started swirling about her and Harris, Bush found herself being accused of being a ‘home-wrecker.’

Bush firmly denied she broke up Harris’ marriage, writing that she had landed on the business end of ‘blatant lies and violent threats,’ via Glamour. 

‘People looking in from the outside weren’t privy to just how much time it took, how many painful conversations were had,’ she insisted.

‘A lot of effort was made to be graceful with other people’s processing, their time and obligations, and their feelings,’ added the Chicago PD actress.

Meanwhile, Harris recently shared her method of weathering the publicity storm that raged around the start of her romance with Bush.

‘When all of this news was going crazy, it was really important for me to be intentional that I was a good human during a really hard season that became very public,’ said Harris, who played for America at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015 and 2019.

‘I never wanted to speak ill about the mother of my children in front of them, with other friends. It was really important to me,’ she noted.

Bush and Harris made their red carpet debut in April 2024 at the star-studded White House Correspondents Dinner hosted by Colin Jost.

Shortly beforehand, Bush had announced their relationship by penning a magazine essay in which she announced that she was ‘queer.’

In her coming out essay, Bush revealed that multiple men she was involved with in the past were aware that she was also attracted to women.

She took aim at social media users ‘who said I’d left my ex because I suddenly realized I wanted to be with women – my partners have known what I’m into for as long as I have (so that’s not it, y’all, sorry!).’

Along with her husbands and Harris, Bush has also previously dated her co-stars Jon Foster, James Lafferty, Austin Nichols and Jesse Lee Soffer. 

The 77-year-old in-laws accused of killing transgender New York Times technology executive Jonathan McKinsey have been charged with murder. Prosecutors also allege the couple “lay in wait” before the fatal shooting.

Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen were each charged with murder Wednesday morning, along with numerous special allegations and circumstances tied to the killing.

Among the allegations is murder by “lying in wait,” a special-circumstance charge indicating that the defendants allegedly planned and timed the attack.

The other allegations include violence or bodily harm, violent conduct, the infliction of great bodily injury, use of a weapon, personal and intentional discharge of a firearm, use and personal use of a firearm, and being armed with a firearm.

Zhang and Chen allegedly took turns shooting McKinsey in the parking lot of Dublin Sports Grounds on Saturday. Local police later found and arrested them on suspicion of murder.

A New York Times spokesperson confirmed that McKinsey was the victim. He had worked for the newspaper since 2023 as its head of engineering for games player experience.

Before his death, McKinsey had been involved in a bitter divorce and custody dispute with his wife, Candice Jang. The couple, who married in 2011, had three children under the age of 10. Both had previously accused the other of abuse and filed restraining orders.

Jang reported McKinsey to police after alleging that he struck their six-year-old son in the face with an open hand. McKinsey was charged with two misdemeanor counts of child abuse, but was later released from jail on the condition that he attend parenting classes.

McKinsey, meanwhile, accused Jang of hitting him with a frying pan in 2013 and verbally abusing their children. He also alleged that she encouraged him to take his own life, claiming she told him that “no one would want to be with someone as f–ked up and transgender like you.”

McKinsey also described a strained relationship with Jang’s parents. According to allegations in a restraining-order filing, Chen visited the family in 2023 and berated the couple’s young son for wearing dresses, calling him a “disgusting queer” and a “pervert.” Chen also allegedly struck the child on the back of the head when he questioned her.

The filing says McKinsey pleaded with Chen to stop. She then allegedly directed the same hostility toward McKinsey, who was transgender and transitioned from female to male in 2010, according to court documents.

Chen allegedly called McKinsey the same slurs, the restraining-order filing stated.

“She blamed me for Wyatt wanting to wear his sister’s dresses and told me to get out of ‘her house’ even though we were in the home owned by Candice and I,” McKinsey wrote.

In another alleged confrontation, McKinsey said his father-in-law punched him in the chest after he underwent a double mastectomy.

A family member told The California Post that he would “lay a lot of money” on the in-laws having killed McKinsey to support Jang’s custody case.

Five men accused of participating in a cocaine distribution network connected to Penn State have filed court documents indicating they plan to contest the charges in Centre County, Pennsylvania.

Agostino Abbatiello, Mohammed Huraibi, Robert Zanolla, Thomas Robinson and Paul Robinson have each signaled that they intend to plead not guilty as their cases proceed. Their decisions follow testimony alleging kilogram-level cocaine transactions and drug packaging inside a fraternity house, although one defense attorney cautioned that it would be “foolish” to reach conclusions before reviewing the evidence.

The Office of the Court Administrator said all five defendants waived their formal arraignments scheduled for Wednesday and will not appear at the Centre County Courthouse. They are next due in court on Nov. 16 for a pretrial conference.

Abbatiello, Zanolla and Thomas Robinson requested jury trials in their waiver documents. Huraibi and Paul Robinson also indicated that they intend to plead not guilty but did not choose between a jury trial and a bench trial.

The five defendants are among 14 people charged in the alleged operation. Prosecutors say the network relied on fraternity connections to bring cocaine into State College, where it was packaged and sold to Penn State students.

Thomas Robinson, a former member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, testified that he and Huraibi began purchasing cocaine from Abbatiello in 2023. Their first transaction involved approximately 100 grams for about $4,000, Robinson said.

Robinson testified that the cocaine was kept in his fraternity room, where he and Huraibi divided it into half-gram bags and sold each for roughly $80.

The alleged purchases later expanded to kilogram quantities, according to Robinson’s testimony. He said he eventually bought directly from Abbatiello through Snapchat, where messages automatically disappeared after 24 hours.

Huraibi also testified that he and Robinson purchased cocaine in bulk for resale. At first, the pair packaged the drugs themselves, but fraternity pledges later became involved, he said.

According to charging documents, Abbatiello served as a major supplier who allegedly used fraternity relationships to distribute cocaine in the area surrounding Penn State. Zanolla is accused of making trips to New York to obtain the cocaine and transport it back to State College.

Korey Leslie, Zanolla’s attorney, confirmed to News Media that his client entered a formal not-guilty plea and requested a jury trial.

Leslie said the defense has requested the evidence the Commonwealth plans to present at trial and will examine the material while preparing for possible pretrial litigation.

Leslie declined to comment further, saying that “pre-judging the evidence would be foolish.”

Paul Robinson faces separate allegations stemming from testimony by Ryan Matson, who said Robinson helped him recover a safe hidden in the woods after Thomas Robinson’s arrest. According to Matson, Thomas wanted to prevent drugs and money from being found in a possible raid.

Matson said Paul Robinson knew where the safe was hidden and later urged him not to tell anyone about it. Under questioning, Matson acknowledged he never opened the safe and initially withheld information from investigators because he wanted to protect Thomas.

Paul Robinson’s defense has challenged whether he knew what was inside the safe.

Robinson’s attorney, Michael DeRiso, downplayed the significance of waiving formal arraignment, describing it as largely procedural.

DeRiso described formal arraignment as largely procedural, saying it starts the clock for pretrial motions, allows attorneys to request discovery and provides the defense with the formal charging document.

“It is basically a paper date … nothing exciting,” DeRiso told News Media.

A judge previously ruled there was enough evidence for charges against all five defendants to move forward.

News Media also reached out to attorneys for the remaining defendants.

Philip Masorti, who represents Abbatiello, said he was declining media requests at this time.
