Norwegian Royal Family’s Marius Borg Høiby Sentenced to Four Years for Rape Conviction

0

IN BRIEF

  • Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son was also found guilty of domestic violence.
  • Norwegian royal family’s popularity have been dented recently, after Mette-Marit’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein was revealed.

An Oslo court has delivered a verdict that has sent shockwaves through the Norwegian monarchy, sentencing Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son to four years in prison on charges of rape and numerous other offenses.

Marius Borg Hoiby, aged 29 and the son of Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, faced accusations spanning 40 charges, including rape and traffic violations. These charges carried a potential maximum sentence of 16 years behind bars.

Among the charges, Hoiby was convicted for a rape incident that occurred at the official residence of the crown prince couple in 2018.

Although Hoiby is not an official member of the royal family and lacks stable employment, the court acquitted him of two other rape charges. However, he was found guilty of repeated domestic abuse against a former girlfriend, various traffic offenses, issuing threats, a drug-related crime, and other violations.

Prosecutors had initially sought a prison sentence of seven years and seven months for Hoiby.

Hoiby, in custody since February, had denied the most serious allegations, including the charges of rape, which the prosecution said took place while the women were asleep or unconscious.

His lawyers had called for him to serve 18 months for the charges to which he had pleaded guilty.

Hoiby was not present in court on Monday but followed the reading of the verdict by video link.

The only rape victim in the courtroom collapsed in tears when the judge read out a guilty verdict in her case.

After conferring with Hoiby in custody, his lawyers said they would appeal the two rape convictions and that for domestic abuse.

“I think this verdict is a victory for our justice system, that shows that no one is beyond the law, despite who you are and who you are related to,” prosecutor Sturla Henriksbo told Agence France-Presse.

Hoiby’s life of excess

The trial, held from 3 February to 19 March, laid bare the life of excess lived by Hoiby, who was thrust into the public eye at the age of three when his mother’s romance with the crown prince began.

“I’m mostly known as my mother’s son, not anything else. So I’ve had an extreme need for recognition my whole life,” he testified during the trial.

“And that manifested itself in a lot of sex, a lot of drugs, and a lot of alcohol,” he said.

The rapes of which he was accused occurred between 2018 and 2024, after nights of partying where Hoiby consumed alcohol and drugs.

Prosecutors argued the cases involved consensual sex later followed by sexual acts when the women appeared to be asleep or passed out, and therefore unable to consent.

Much of the legal arguments centred on the women’s level of awareness, and what Hoiby would have been able to perceive at the time.

Hoiby had criticised the pressure put on him by the media, which he said painted him as “a monster” and made him “the hate target of all of Norway”.

Prosecutors describe ‘reign of terror’

The scandal erupted on 4 August 2024, when police arrested Hoiby on suspicion of assaulting his then-girlfriend in her Oslo apartment the previous night.

The media published photos of a knife stuck in the wall and a shattered chandelier on the floor.

One of his former partners, influencer Nora Haukland, then came forward and said he had also subjected her to physical and psychological abuse — described by prosecutors as a “reign of terror”.

During the trial, Hoiby acknowledged that jealousy sometimes made him lose control.

The women themselves did not file rape charges against Hoiby.

Instead, police investigating the August 2024 incident discovered videos on his phones and computers which they said constituted rapes, and contacted the women, who were unaware of the events depicted.

The scandal has embarrassed Norway’s monarchy and contributed to a fall in support, though it remains broadly popular.

It follows earlier revelations of Mette-Marit’s friendship with the late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Mette-Marit, 52, suffers from an incurable lung disease that causes breathing difficulties and her condition recently took a turn for the worse. Doctors have placed her on a waiting list for a lung transplant.

In Costa Rica, a California tourist has gone missing amid powerful flash floods and mudslides that hit the area during her hiking trip. The search for her has been hindered by continuous heavy rainfall.

Ashley Phillips, aged 30, was last seen on June 2, and now, 13 days into her disappearance, her family is enduring their “worst nightmare” as search-and-rescue operations have been suspended due to unsafe weather conditions.

Authorities in Costa Rica have declared a nationwide green alert, cautioning that the intensifying rainy season and a developing low-pressure system in the Pacific could lead to further destructive landslides.

Lawsuit Raises Alarms Over Safety Risks at Torrance and Wilmington Refineries

0

In response to the recent chemical leak in Garden Grove that led to the evacuation of approximately 50,000 residents, the Torrance Refinery Action Alliance (TRAA) has initiated legal action against two refineries in Southern California.

The lawsuit, submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court, targets the refineries located in Torrance and Wilmington. It demands access to safety documentation as stipulated by the California Public Records Act.

In a public statement, TRAA emphasized, “Garden Grove is not alone in Southern California when it comes to the risk of a major disaster due to an industrial chemical storage facility that could potentially trigger a mass casualty incident.”

TRAA highlighted that these two refineries are the only ones in the state utilizing hydrogen fluoride (HF/MHF) in the production of high-octane gasoline. They warned that the handling and storage of this hazardous substance continue to endanger nearby populations.

The California Public Records Act mandates that government-held records should be made available to the public upon request, unless exceptions for privacy or public safety apply that would prevent such disclosure.

The Torrance refinery has had a history of bad accidents. In 2015, an explosion led to four workers being injured while triggering a 1.7 magnitude earthquake in the surrounding areas. A 40-ton piece of debris was also blasted and landed just five feet away from a tank containing thousands of pounds of modified hydrofluoric acid (corrosive liquid that dissolves glass and burns skin).

In 1979, an explosion resulted in three deaths and forced neighborhood evacuations.

Following the chemical leak in Garden Grove in May, Southern California residents have been on high alert, leading to growing demands for stricter and safer measures at local refineries and plants.

The Post reached out to the refineries but did not hear back.

California Governor Gavin Newsom Announces Investigation by Trump-Era Justice Department Targeting Him and His Wife

0

In Sacramento, California, Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has publicly alleged that the U.S. Justice Department is conducting a politically motivated investigation against him and his wife. Newsom claims this move by the Trump administration is a strategic attack as he considers a possible presidential campaign.

In a video shared on the social media platform X, Newsom, who has long been a political adversary of former President Donald Trump, stated that federal agents have approached his friends and former staff members, requesting documents. Although he did not elaborate on the specifics of the investigation, his office indicated that the probe now appears to be delving into personal matters concerning Newsom’s family and professional associates.

“Donald Trump isn’t just coming after me because of my mean tweets,” Newsom remarked, alluding to his history of criticizing Trump on social media. “He’s targeting me because I’m contemplating a run for president and because he despises my consistent exposure of his falsehoods and deceit.”

The exact scope and details of the Justice Department’s investigations involving Newsom remain unclear. However, these developments are poised to fuel allegations from critics that the Trump administration might be manipulating the Justice Department to target political rivals.

Meanwhile, a source with knowledge of the situation refuted claims of a direct investigation targeting Newsom. Instead, they noted that multiple federal inquiries are ongoing concerning individuals in his circle, including an investigation into his wife’s tax affairs. This particular probe began last year, and according to the source, political leaders in Washington did not influence the decision to initiate it. The individual spoke under anonymity due to the sensitive nature of discussing ongoing investigations publicly.

Another probe is related to Newsom’s former chief of staff, Dana Williamson, who was indicted on federal charges that she was involved in a scheme to steal campaign money from former federal Health Secretary Xavier Becerra. Williamson in May pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy to commit bank fraud. That investigation, which was launched by President Joe Biden’s Justice Department, has expanded to include other staff, the person familiar with the matter said.

Newsom hasn’t been accused of any wrongdoing related to Williamson’s case.

The Justice Department declined to comment on Monday. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche declined to answer questions about Newsom during a brief photo opportunity with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, on Capitol Hill Monday afternoon. Blanche had a scheduled meeting with Grassley to discuss his nomination to become attorney general.

They are the latest Justice Department investigations surrounding one of Trump’s political foes foes.

The Justice Department has also opened investigations into or brought prosecutions against former FBI Director James Comey,New York Attorney General Letitia James, former CIA director John Brennan and former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, among other perceived political enemies of the president.

“One by one, anyone who has challenged Donald Trump has ended up on his hit list, and today I proudly join that list,” Newsom said in the video.

Investigators have subpoenaed records, and agents have reached out to organizations and people connected to the governor and his wife, according to Newsom’s office. The governor’s office accused the Justice Department of “searching for a crime that does not exist.”

Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the governor’s wife, said the investigation showed that Trump is unfit for office.

“There are clearly no boundaries to what Donald Trump will do to get his way or to challenge those who get in his way,” she said in a statement.

The president has repeatedly gone after the Democrat-dominated state during his second term including by curbing a signature plan to reduce planet-warning emissions from cars, withholding aid for wildfire recovery and suing over state policies supporting transgender student-athletes. The state has pushed back by suing the federal government dozens of times.

Newsom also led a push to counteract a Trump-backed effort in Texas to redraw congressional districts to favor Republicans by championing a successful redistricting measure in California designed to win Democrats five additional House seats.

Timothy Hudson, Stepbrother of Anna Kepner, Arrested in Connection with Homicide Case

0

The teenage stepbrother implicated in the tragic death and assault of Anna Kepner aboard a Caribbean cruise has been apprehended in Florida, as reported by the Daily Mail.

At 8 a.m. on Monday, Timothy Hudson, 16, turned himself in to the US Marshals Service, following a court order that was recently made public.

Initially, Hudson will be detained at the Citrus County Jail in Lecanto, which accommodates juveniles, before facing trial in September. On July 10, he will be moved to Miami Dade County’s Metro-West Detention Center in preparation for the proceedings.

Anna’s parents expressed in a joint statement that the arrest represents “a crucial step in the quest for justice for Anna.”

The judge has mandated a mental health assessment for Hudson and granted him the ability to receive family visits and use the internet for communication with them.

‘The murder is alleged to have followed from a brutal sexual assault, and to have been committed against a member of the defendant’s own household in a setting from which the victim could not escape,’ US District Judge Torres wrote in his unsealed order.

‘Indeed, we have two alleged grave crimes here. The forcible sexual assault by itself would be enough to find that release on bond posed too heavy a risk for the community. Had defendant only been charged with that serious offense when he was 18 or older, he would have been likely detained on that basis alone.’

‘The level of depravity and psychopathy involved in the commission of that brutal offense would be too hard for most jurists to ignore.’

Timothy was sharing a cabin with his 18-year-old stepsister when she was found raped, strangled and stuffed under a bed aboard the Carnival Horizon in November last year.

Prosecutors have alleged he was ‘obsessed’ with his stepsibling at the time of the slaying.

‘We have evidence he was obsessed with his sister. He had a crush on her,’ prosecutor Alejandra Lopez said during a court hearing last month.

He was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse in February but released without bond under the Juvenile Delinquency Act to live with his uncle.

The secretive federal case was finally unsealed in March when Timothy, whose mom Shauntel Hudson is married to Anna’s dad Christopher Kepner, agreed to be tried in US District Court as an adult defendant.

Prosecutors immediately asked Judge Edwin Torres to review his earlier release order because the youngster’s custody arrangements now fall under the much tougher Bail Reform Act.

They argued that Timothy, who is accused of the ‘most serious, egregious, and violative crimes one person can inflict upon another,’ should not be around other kids.

Judge Torres agreed to take the boy into custody but not immediately.

Anna, of Titusville, Florida, had been sharing a room with Timothy and her half-brother when the grisly slaying unfolded en route from Mexico to the US.

The Daily Mail was the first outlet to report that Anna’s body was found stuffed beneath a bed in the cabin.

She had been wrapped in a blanket and covered with life preservers, according to sources.

Bruising to Anna’s neck suggested Timothy squeezed his step-sibling’s throat for three to five minutes until she died from mechanical asphyxiation, prosecutors said.

The attack was so ferocious that her eardrum allegedly burst.

Anna had gone to bed early the night before, telling her family during dinner that her braces were hurting.

While her half-brother wandered the ship taking photos, she was left alone with her stepbrother who takes medication for ADHD and insomnia.

When the younger boy returned, he did not see Anna but assumed she was staying up late with Christopher, Shauntel, or her grandparents Jeffrey and Barbara Kepner.

He climbed into his bunk and went to sleep – unaware, sources say, that his sister’s body was hidden just feet away beneath her bed.

It was not until the next morning when the two boys headed to breakfast that the family realized Anna was missing.

By then Timothy had thrown her cell phone into a trash can, according to prosecutors.

Dad-of-three Christopher, 41, was alerted to the cheerleader’s plight when a medical emergency was announced over the ship’s public address system.

He entered her Deck 8 cabin moments after a cleaning crew had discovered the body.

‘I checked her pulse. I pulled her out from under the bed. I knew my daughter was dead long before the medical examiner got there,’ the heartbroken dad previously told the Daily Mail.

Timothy had been put in the same room as his step-sibling to save money, according to prosecutors.

Anna's father Christopher Kepner recalled the moment he pulled his daughter Anna's lifeless body from under a cruise ship bed. The 18-year-old was found dead while on vacation with family including her father, stepmother and stepbrother, all pictured, last year

‘In order to save money they put them in the same room,’ Lopez said, adding that the family considered them to be ‘two peas in a pod.’

Anna and Timothy were alone in the cabin for roughly three hours, prosecutors said.

In the wake of the grim finding, FBI agents swarmed the ship, interviewed the family and scoured CCTV cameras when the Horizon returned to Miami on November 8.

Timothy was initially arrested and charged as a juvenile. He has pleaded not guilty and invoked his right to remain silent.

Eric Cohen, Timothy’s public defender, has conceded that Timothy and Anna likely had sex but he’s claimed there isn’t enough evidence to determine that it was non-consensual.

Timothy faces decades in prison if convicted.

He cannot face the death penalty because he was a minor at the time of the alleged slaying.

Anna had planned on entering the US Navy or becoming a K9 handler in the Titusville Police Department after graduating high school.

She had chronicled her love of travel on TikTok and been on several cruises.

‘Anna was pure energy: bubbly, funny, outgoing, and completely herself,’ relatives wrote in her obituary.

Mourners at her November memorial service were encouraged to wear bright colors instead of black ‘in honor of Anna’s bright and beautiful soul.’

In their statement Anna’s parents said: ‘‘While nothing can ever bring our daughter back, we are grateful to see progress toward accountability and remain committed to honoring her memory every step of the way.’

Rush Makes a Dynamic Comeback

0

On a memorable Sunday, June 7, 2026, a crowd of 15,000 gathered at the storied yet dignified Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Situated just a parking lot away from the modern SoFi Stadium, known for hosting prestigious events like the World Cup and Super Bowl, the venue buzzed with energy. As the pleasant Southern California day transitioned into evening, attendees explored the arena, indulging in overpriced drinks and browsing through a plethora of souvenir stands. It was a reunion of familiar faces, long-time friends who were now navigating parenthood, sharing nostalgic tales of days gone by—days we wish we could have paused to savor.

The occasion was a concert by a band that had soundtracked our younger years, their music booming from eight-tracks and later cassettes in our car stereos. Friends often puzzled over our obsession with these three Canadians who sang about unconventional topics set to unique rhythmic patterns. This band defied the norm of pretty boys with catchy tunes, offering instead a blend of heaviness and intellect. They demonstrated that one could rock fiercely with the mind, appealing to a generation raised on Star Trek and Star Wars, rejecting the polyester-clad, disco-fueled culture of the 70s for something more imaginative and thoughtful.

The band in question? Rush. And they were making a comeback.

What once seemed impossible—witnessing Rush live again after drummer and lyricist Neil Peart’s retirement in 2015 and his passing in 2020—had materialized, albeit through somber circumstances. Geddy Lee, the band’s bassist/keyboardist/vocalist, and guitarist Alex Lifeson, reunited to perform at the 2022 tribute concerts in Los Angeles and London for Foo Fighters’ drummer Taylor Hawkins. A backstage conversation with none other than Paul McCartney in London further fueled their desire to reunite. The challenge remained: who could possibly take Peart’s place on the drums?

The answer came in the form of Anika Nilles. Recommended by Lee’s bass technician, who had previously worked with Nilles during her tour with the late Jeff Beck, she brought the skill and inspiration necessary to motivate Lee and Lifeson to revisit their extensive discography. While some purists lamented the change, the broader Rush fan community was eager to give her a chance. Their anticipation was rewarded at the 2026 Juno Awards, where the reinvigorated trio, joined by keyboardist and backing vocalist Loren Gold, delivered a scorching performance of “Finding My Way” from their debut album in 1974.

Enter Anika Nilles. Recommended to Lee by his bass tech from his previously thought concluded touring years, said tech having worked with Nilles when she was touring with the late Jeff Beck, Nilles provided both the chops and the spark to make Lee and Lifeson willing to scrape off the rust and breathe life into their vast back catalog. The Peart worshipers whined, while the rest of Rush’s vast online fan base said let’s give her a chance. A tantalizing taste of what lay in store came via the 2026 Juno Awards, when the refreshed trio, augmented by keyboardist and background vocalist Loren Gold, tore it up with a blistering rendition of “Finding My Way” from their 1974 eponymous debut album.

All well and good. But that was one song, and one of Rush’s simpler songs at that. How would the band stand up under the heavy demands of performing its complex signature pieces? Could Nilles fill the bill? Could Lee’s voice, which had noticeably weakened during the band’s last tour in 2015, stand the strain? Would Lifeson’s arthritis permit him to play the dazzling runs and washes critical to the Rush sound?

The answer came quickly. After a humorous introductory video, the band came out with “Xanadu” from its 1977 progressive rock opus “A Farewell to Kings.” This was not something a bunch of old rockers could mug their way through to placate nostalgia buffs. “Xanadu” requires precision playing and dynamics to pull off.

They pulled it off, the audience roaring as one when Nilles proved from the get-go she was more than worthy of the job. Her intensity and smile energized the arena, and the constant looks of professional affection between her and Lee were impossible to miss. Anika Nilles has accomplished the previously thought impossible: bringing Rush back to life live on stage.

The concert was a true immersive experience, lights and animations blending to create a seamless whole, augmenting the music without overpowering it. Throughout the evening, better-known and deep tracks came together, highlighting how, during their career, Rush did what many artists are unwilling or unable to do. They grew up. While not entirely leaving aside the sci-fi and fantasy themes of “2112” and “By-Tor and the Snow Dog” in favor of personal and societal observations, the latter became prominent. The band brought this into sharp focus with the one-two punch of “Time Stand Still” and its wistful longing to savor today, graced by Aimee Mann in person, replicating her vocal on the album, followed by the devastating examination of the Holocaust’s horrors with “Red Sector A.”

The evening paid proper homage to Peart while celebrating the fact that in 2026, Rush remains a vital part of the thinking person’s music library. Many a tear was shed by eyes unaccustomed to such events, not in lament of paying the price but rather rejoicing that we are still able to eschew counting the cost. Rush is back, and we are the better for it.

Gainesville Resident Faces 15 Charges Following Domestic Violence Incidents and Threats Against Deputy

0

Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 20-year-old resident of Alachua, Andrew Allen Lewis, has been taken into custody on 15 charges connected to two incidents involving domestic violence and threats directed at a law enforcement officer during his arrest.

On June 13, in the afternoon, a deputy from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call from a woman who was audibly upset during the phone call.

The woman reported to the deputy that she and Lewis had been involved in an on-and-off relationship for more than a year. She had invited him over to her home the previous evening to socialize. However, Lewis became agitated upon discovering that McDonald’s was closed, leading to a heated argument between them. Seeking to avoid further conflict, she retreated to her bedroom and secured the door, but Lewis attempted to force entry by pulling on the French doors until the surrounding trim gave way.

Despite her requests for him to leave, Lewis refused. They eventually spent the night sleeping in different rooms. The following day, her attempts to get him to leave were again met with refusal.

The victim said Lewis became angry and took her phone; she got it back and tried to run outside to call 911, but Lewis took her phone again and threw it on the ground. When he went to his vehicle, she picked up her phone, went back inside, and locked the door. Lewis allegedly forced his way into the back door while she was calling 911, grabbed her around the neck, and tried to take her phone again. The victim tried to escape, and Lewis allegedly held her in her residence against her will, but she was finally able to escape to her bedroom.

Lewis allegedly started throwing items around in the living room, damaging several items, and then went into the victim’s bedroom, picked her up, and threw her into a mirror before grabbing her phone, purse, and computer and running to his vehicle. The victim was able to retrieve her items, and Lewis allegedly followed her back into her residence before hearing sirens; as he left, he alleged said, “If you press charges, I will kill your family and shoot your house up.”

At about 2:56 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on Lewis’s vehicle as it exited I-75 onto NW 39th Avenue. Lewis was placed in the back of a patrol car and allegedly started kicking the interior of the prisoner compartment, damaging a speaker housing and causing damage estimated at $750. He also allegedly tried to kick out the rear window of the vehicle and opened the deputy’s personal drink cooler, which was on the floor in the back seat, and drank multiple bottles of a sports drink.

On the way to the jail, Lewis allegedly told the deputy he would get shot one day in the line of duty. When the deputy asked whether that was a threat, Lewis said it was “a foreshadowing.” Later, Lewis allegedly said that he wanted to fight the deputy and “would whip the living sh** out of you.”

Lewis has also been charged in a domestic battery incident from June 8. The responding deputy wrote that the victim’s nose was swollen and out of shape, and there was dried blood on her face. She said Lewis had come to her residence, where they had gotten into an argument and she locked herself in the bathroom and started a video recording. The video reportedly shows her telling Lewis to leave several times.

She eventually came out of the bathroom, thinking Lewis had left, but she found him in the kitchen area, where he allegedly charged at her, grabbed her, and threw her into the wall of the hallway before dragging her into a room and slamming her head into the door frame. When the victim screamed, Lewis let go, and she ran for the front door, where Lewis allegedly grabbed her phone and held it over her head. As Lewis continued to pull at her shirt, he allegedly kneed her in the face and broke her nose before slamming her onto the ground and injuring her hand. When she yelled that she was calling the cops, he fled out the back door.

Lewis has been charged with two counts of hindering communication with 911 services, burglary with battery, tampering with a witness, felony property damage, false imprisonment, two counts of domestic battery, two counts of threatening to harm a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor property damage, resisting an officer without violence, and three counts of theft. He has no criminal convictions; he was arrested in 2025 for burglary of a vehicle and resisting an officer without violence, but the charges were later dropped. Judge David Kreider ordered him held without bail on the false imprisonment and burglary with battery charges, pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing. Judge Joy Danne added $20,000 bail on the second domestic battery incident.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Massive Wildfire Engulfs 600 Acres in Lake Woodruff Wildlife Refuge, Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A significant wildfire, covering around 600 acres, is currently raging in the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge in northwest Volusia County. Authorities have issued advisories to nearby communities regarding the presence of smoke and ash in the area.

Although the fire is extensive, Volusia County officials have reassured the public that no buildings are in danger. Firefighters from the county are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to support state and federal agencies if called upon.

According to a statement shared by the local fire union on social media, the fire is believed to have been started by a lightning strike over the weekend.

On Monday afternoon, rain began to fall in the region, which helped reduce the amount of visible smoke. Despite this, the storms brought more thunder and lightning, the same conditions suspected of sparking the initial fire.

Earlier that same day, smoke was visible from International Speedway Boulevard in DeLand just before 8 a.m. Many residents found their cars covered in ash, including a News 6 viewer who shared images of her vehicle, heavily dusted with ash, parked near the Volusia and Lake County border.

Multiple agencies, including the Florida Forest Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, are actively working to contain the fire. Volusia County Fire Rescue is monitoring the situation and is prepared to provide support if requested.

Volusia County is asking residents not to call 911 or emergency dispatch centers unless they see active flames or an immediate threat to life or property, noting that smoke may remain visible as crews continue suppression efforts.

Residents with questions can visit volusia.org/feedback or call 386-736-2700.

Explosive Device Discovered Near Cleveland’s Homeland Security Office: Evacuations Underway

0

A Homeland Security office located near Cleveland faced an evacuation on Monday due to the discovery of a suspicious package containing a live explosive device. Authorities acted swiftly to address the potential threat.

The explosive was detected within an office complex in Brooklyn Heights, leading to the evacuation of at least seven surrounding buildings, as reported by FOX 8 News. The safety protocol was promptly initiated to ensure public safety.

The complex at 925 Keynote Circle includes a Cleveland Homeland Security office, which functions as a satellite branch for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the larger jurisdiction of the Detroit Field Office, per ICE’s official site.

This location also serves other governmental functions, housing the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA) and the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) bond acceptance facilities. However, it remains uncertain if these specific buildings were directly impacted or evacuated due to the explosive device.

Tracy Morgan Crowns NBA Star Jalen Brunson as the Ultimate ‘King of New York

0

 jwpropertyid=”qnvVgH3c” /]

Tracy Morgan may not have a single favorite player on the New York Knicks, but he has certainly declared Jalen Brunson as the “King of New York” after the team’s recent success.

The “30 Rock” star, now 57, shared his thoughts with Page Six in an exclusive interview shortly after the Knicks clinched the NBA Finals, securing a 4-1 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.

“I can’t point out just one player because everyone contributed to this win,” Morgan explained. “From the coaching staff to every team member, everyone played a part, so I won’t single anyone out. But right now, Brunson, as the team captain, stands as the King of New York. That’s what the people are saying.”

In a playful twist, Morgan compared Brunson to a Ghostbuster and even broke into a rendition of the classic theme song from the 1984 film.

“There’s something strange in your neighborhood. Who you gonna call? Jalen Brunson!”

The star of “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” shared that he feels “incredible right now” and shed many tears on Saturday night after the Knicks’ victory.

“I broke down a lot,” he confessed. “I wasn’t the only one. Everyone in there was. Fifty-three years [the last time the Knicks won the championship was in 1973], everyone let it all out, everyone felt joyful, they were tears of joy.”

It wasn’t the first time he shed tears.

Video of Morgan getting teary after the Knicks’ spectacular come-from-behind Game 4 win is all over social media.

Morgan added that his untempered joy is also for New York City.

“It means we’re over the hump,” he explained. “The curse is over, and this is the first time in a long time that I’ve really seen the city happy,” noting that the city has been “through a lot” the last couple of decades with 9/11 and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve been through a lot, and we have something to really, really be proud of,” he said.

Although he has been a fixture on “Celebrity Row,” Morgan demurred when Page Six called him a “superfan.”

“The superfans are the ones sitting way up there,” he countered. “The real fans are way up there.”

The “SNL” alum hopes to be part of the parade this coming Thursday.

“Right now I’m still processing everything, and hopefully I’ll go to the parade,” he revealed, “I want to be a part of it. I want to be a part of the people. Hopefully I’ll be there with my family.”
