Nearly three decades have passed since Nigella Lawson first captivated television audiences with her glamorous curves, flirtatious charm and famously suggestive approach to home cooking.
Now, as the self-styled Domestic Goddess prepares for her first major UK TV role in six years, fans could be forgiven for thinking time has barely touched her.
The 66-year-old celebrity chef was confirmed in January as Prue Leith’s replacement on The Great British Bake Off, after the 86-year-old judge chose to leave the Channel 4 favourite following almost ten years in the tent.
On Monday night, Nigella appeared alongside fellow judge Paul Hollywood and presenters Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding at the official launch of the show, ahead of the 2026 series debut on September 22.
The mother of two looked effortlessly radiant at the event, drawing comparisons with her appearance when she launched her first cookery series, Nigella Bites, in 1999. So what lies behind her remarkably youthful look?
She’s just as well known for her flawless, porcelain complexion as she is for whipping up culinary masterpieces in the kitchen – yet Nigella’s glowing skin has nothing to do with Botox or fillers.
The chef believes there’s ‘no point to cosmetic work’. Neither does she shy away from a diet of high-fat food such as butter, and doesn’t ‘punish herself trying to look like a model’.
However, there’s one method she does stick to for radiant skin, explaining: ‘I’m also allergic to the sun so I don’t go into the sun and that makes a difference.’

She told The Mirror this year: ‘It’s been [that way] my whole life, but it’s got worse. I just can’t go in it. It’s a bore, actually.’
According to skin experts, it is possible to actually be allergic to the sun, known medically as photodermatitis. It occurs when your immune system overreacts to sunlight, resulting in itchy, painful, or blistering rashes on sun-exposed skin.
Experts also say that avoiding the sun’s UV rays is among the most effective ways to keep skin looking young.
The cookbook author added that she refuses to jump on the cosmetic ‘tweakment’ bandwagon, believing that ‘there’s no point’.
Instead, the secret to her wrinkle-free skin seems to be thanks to sleeping in a cold room with absolutely no central heating on and using a pair of silicone gloves.
The domestic goddess has an ‘immutable nighttime regime’, which involves a cleansing and skincare routine followed by a very chilly night’s sleep.
When asked in 2024 the secrets to her ageless appearance by one of her followers on X, she revealed that every night she washes her face with a muslin and Temple Spa’s In the Beginning cleanser.
She said she then massages in Prickly Pear Seed Oil by skincare brand Victoria Health, adding: ‘And no central heating in the bedroom!’

While it might be tempting to put on the central heating overnight during the colder months, dermatologists have warned that it could lead to severely dry skin.
Leading skincare experts have said one of the biggest causes of dry and flaky skin in the winter months is coming into contact with air, indoors and outdoors, that lacks humidity.
Nigella also claimed in 2018 that she relies on silicone gloves, worth a modest £10, to smooth her skin and remove any impurities.
She confessed: ‘I am the sucker who buys things. I recently bought some washing up gloves with silicone bits on the palm for scrubbing. I exfoliate with them. I like them.’
Meanwhile, renowned for her curvaceous figure, Nigella has frequently spoken in the past about her great fondness for food and dislike of diets.
She said in 2012: ‘I remember Elizabeth Hurley once said, “It’s either the cookie jar or the size six jeans”. Well, fair enough. She would rather the size six jeans, I would rather the cookie jar.
‘In the end, you make that choice. If wearing certain clothes matters most to you, then that is going to be your priority, whereas I could probably do that for two days but my real priority is eating.’
London-born Nigella, who split from second husband Charles Saatchi in 2013, recently slammed the use of controversial weight loss drug Ozempic.

She said she has spent her whole life ‘trying to help people not to feel food is the enemy’ and is someone who ‘would prefer to think about what I add to my diet than what I remove.’
She told The Times: ‘I read something once where someone said, ‘I was on Ozempic and it was the first time I didn’t think about food all the time.
‘I thought, ‘I can’t imagine anything worse than that. I take great pleasure in thinking about food all of the time.’
Speaking at a Q&A in 2015, Nigella also revealed that, despite her culinary prowess, she still enjoys tucking into fast food and other calorific treats, according to The Sun.
She explained: ‘You should not have any guilt about pleasure. You should only ever feel guilt if you don’t take pleasure. In certain moments, I do like a bit of plastic bread with a cheese triangle on. That can be delicious.’
Despite her indulgences, Nigella revealed she’d dropped from a UK size 16 to a UK size 12 in November 2017, thanks to her love of yoga.
She had previously shared two years earlier with Good Housekeeping magazine how the exercise was helping her to get in ‘better shape’.
‘I have never been on a diet to try to lose weight,’ she said. ‘I feel like I haven’t lost weight, but I’m possibly in better shape. I am doing a rather slow form of yoga now called iyengar.’
She added: ‘No one should be put on this earth to go on a diet! No one should eat themselves ill either.’
Speaking on Nigella’s seemingly unchanging face, Smita Ahluwalia, skin health expert and clinical facialist told The Daily Mail: ‘Nigella is known not to be a fan of the sun, and she credits her youthful skin to staying out of direct sunlight.

‘This means she has helped protect her skin from the ageing effects of UVA and UVB rays, including fine lines and sun damage. She also has olive skin, which can age well.
‘Not wearing much makeup over the years may also have worked in her favour, as she hasn’t overloaded or overworked her skin with heavy makeup on a daily basis.
‘Being too thin can also age the face, and Nigella has maintained a fuller, healthy-looking face over the years. She is a less is more type of person and is comfortable with herself rather than trying to change herself.’
Thanks to her curvaceous figure and innuendo-filled programmes, the star has been seducing television viewers for almost three decades – and is regarded as one of the sexiest women in the world.
But the cookery icon insisted last year that she’s far from a sex symbol, pointing out her ‘lazy’ beauty regime.
‘I don’t get the whole sexy thing. Often I am not wearing makeup at all,’ Nigella, 65, told the Salon Confidential podcast with stylist Andreas Wild in 2025.
‘If I’ve done my own hair, I don’t brush it, I mess it up. Instead of brushing it, I tip my head upside down. I do try to do it sometimes, but I’m incredibly lazy. If people recognise me, I’m astonished.’
She also admitted there is a huge downside to her job, pointing out burn marks on her arms. ‘I am very clumsy. I mean, look, I mean, the amount of burns.’
The TV star even admitted that she felt ‘offended to be recognised’ during a recent encounter on the London Underground, explaining: ‘I was on the Tube the other day and someone said, “Is it you?” ‘
‘I said, ‘God, I am looking such a fright. I’m almost offended to be recognised”.’
Whilst she maintains a low-key approach to her looks, Nigella is a stickler when it comes to table manners, and she has one major pet peeve in the kitchen.
‘I’m not super hygienic, I can tell you. My fridge is a bit of a terrible mess. But I cannot bear it if people use the same knife for the butter and then put it into some marmalade.
Despite her onscreen reputation, Nigella has always protested she never set out to sexualise her shows with her trademark innuendos.
Speaking in 2017, the star explained the sexy reputation she’s earned was owed to clever editing by the production company.
‘I never ever wanted to be on TV – I’m not a performer,’ she said when probed on the topic.
‘When that first series came out I was astonished to be told I was suggestive and coquettish and so forth because the reality is I’m a straightforward person.
‘I haven’t got a coquettish manner so I want to say two things … One is television is glamorising so they always make you look nicer than you look. Two is that it’s an editor’s medium, so obviously how you put something together will reinforce that.’
‘But I’ll do something and people will say it’s rude or a double entendre and I feel like saying “well can you please explain it to me, I don’t get it?”‘
Elsewhere, in 2019, Nigella told OK! magazine how she uses makeup as ‘armour’ but admired people who are brave enough to go without makeup on.
Discussing the star’s youthful makeup tricks, Laura Kay, beauty and makeup expert and founder of Laura Kay London, told the Daily Mail: ‘Nigella’s trick is subtle enhancements as she has matured – she appears to have put in what time took away.
‘Why so many people make a comparison is due to the fact she has kept her hairstyle the same and her makeup is still natural.
‘Why I say she has put in what time took away is because, from a trained eye, she appears to have used techniques to make herself look more youthful and fresh. It’s undeniable she looks fabulous.
‘If you apply a clever set of rules in beauty as you mature, you can enhance your features to appear younger.
‘Nigella’s hair is noticeably more bouncy, and her lips and brows are more defined. Her lips are also slightly plumper. She hardly wore makeup when she was younger – only very light makeup – and today she still has her signature “undone look” to some extent.
‘Today, she could be using contouring to help define and flatter her features such as cheekbones, and her brows are more filled in and defined.
‘She appears to opt for heavier makeup nowadays but it still looks very natural – it’s only when you compare her older photos that you really notice she is wearing more makeup than she used to.’
