Ocala Business Altercation: Man Arrested After Threatening Gun Violence

0

By Staff Writer

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dedan Justin Haynes, a 23-year-old resident of Ocala, found himself behind bars yesterday, accused of brandishing a firearm and threatening the life of a local business owner.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on June 9, officers from the Gainesville Police Department responded to a disturbance on the 1800 block of NE 23rd Avenue. The business owner reported that Haynes visited his establishment to confront him about staying away from Haynes’s girlfriend, who happens to be the business owner’s ex-wife. During the heated exchange, Haynes allegedly drew a gun and threatened to kill the owner unless he ceased contact with the woman and her children.

One witness claimed to have observed the confrontation and overheard Haynes’s deadly threat, prompting her to leave the scene promptly.

Another onlooker recounted seeing Haynes return to his car amidst the shouting match. The witness reported hearing Haynes declare he was armed and threatened to shoot the victim before speeding away.

Haynes was reportedly found at his girlfriend’s house and was positively identified by the victim.

Post Miranda, Haynes reportedly admitted that he had displayed his gun, but he said he only pointed it at the ground while he backed away from the victim; he initially denied saying he would kill the victim, but when the officer confronted him with the witness accounts, he reportedly said they “had words,” but he had no intention of killing the victim.

The gun was reportedly found inside the house where Haynes was arrested.

Haynes has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no criminal convictions, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Florida Court Approves GOP-Drawn US House Districts for Upcoming Midterms: Impact on Election Landscape

The Florida Supreme Court has given the green light for newly crafted U.S. House districts, designed by Republicans, to be implemented for the upcoming midterm elections. This decision marks yet another triumph for the GOP in their strategic redistricting efforts across the nation, which aim to help the party maintain its narrow majority in the House of Representatives.

On Wednesday, the court declined a petition to impose a temporary injunction on these new districts. Lawyers representing the voters who initiated the lawsuit contended that these districts breach a state constitutional clause that bans partisan gerrymandering. They argued that the court should mandate the use of the same districts as those used in the last election cycle.

Currently, Republicans control 20 out of Florida’s 28 U.S. House seats. The newly delineated voting districts, signed into law by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis following a rapid two-day special legislative session, could potentially boost the GOP’s prospects of capturing four more seats this year.

Critics have pointed to a 2010 amendment, approved by voters, that prohibits congressional districts from being designed to favor or disadvantage a particular political party or incumbent officials.

Florida is among several states with Republican leadership that have embarked on a mid-decade redistricting process. This move is part of former President Donald Trump’s broader strategy to secure a slender House majority in the upcoming November elections by altering district boundaries to the GOP’s benefit.

Florida’s legislature approved the new House map on April 29 — the same day the U.S. Supreme Court weakened federal Voting Rights Act protections for minorities while striking down a majority-Black congressional district in Louisiana. Since then, several Southern states have taken steps to try to eliminate minority districts that have elected Democrats.

DeSantis had called lawmakers into a special session before the high court’s ruling, but he had anticipated the eventual outcome. DeSantis’ office asserted that no racial data was used for the map he presented to the Legislature. The new map, among other things, redraws a southeastern Florida district that DeSantis’ office said was created to help elect a Black representative in an attempt to comply with the federal Voting Rights Act.

In addition to barring partisan gerrymandering, Florida’s constitution also prohibits districts from being drawn to deny or diminish the ability of racial or language minorities to elect the representatives of their choice. It further requires districts to be compact and, where feasible, use existing political and geographic boundaries.

In a memo to lawmakers, DeSantis’ General Counsel David Axelman asserted that the racial redistricting provision of Florida’s Fair Districts Amendment violates the U.S. Constitution. If one element is invalid, Axelman wrote, then the entire 2010 amendment is void, including provisions barring partisan gerrymandering.

Attorneys representing state officials made similar arguments to the Florida Supreme Court, after a lower court judge last month declined to issue a preliminary injunction against the new map. They also argued it was too late in the election season to revert to the previous maps.

In a filing with the Florida Supreme Court, attorneys representing state officials said the new map was “cause for celebration” during America’s 250th anniversary. “Perhaps for the first time in Florida’s history, the State has a truly colorblind map; a map that refuses to assault the dignity of men and women by color-coding them,” their court filing said.

Attorneys who sued on behalf of voters argued the new districts were crafted with political favoritism. They argued in documents filed with the state Supreme Court that the new congressional districts are “among the most extreme partisan gerrymanders enacted in any state over the past half-century.”

Under the new House map, 82% of voters in districts represented by Republicans remain in the same districts as under the previous map, said attorney Chris Shenton, who represented Common Cause and other groups challenging the map. Just 41% of voters in districts represented by Democrats are kept in their same districts, he said.

Tragic Dispute: Man Fatally Shoots Landscaper Over Grass Clippings on Car in Shocking Incident

An Ohio man has been sentenced to several decades in prison for fatally shooting a landscaper in a dispute over an alleged mess. The tragic event has resulted in a lengthy legal battle and a heavy sentence for the perpetrator.

In May, a jury in Montgomery County found 36-year-old Travis Jackson guilty on two counts of murder for the death of 22-year-old Tanner Staggs. Alongside the murder charges, Jackson was also convicted of felonious assault with a deadly weapon, felonious assault causing serious physical harm, discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premises, and involuntary manslaughter.

This Wednesday, coincidentally on what would have been Staggs’ 23rd birthday, Judge Mary Wiseman of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas handed Jackson a sentence of 21 years to life in prison.

The incident took place on September 18, 2025, in Dayton, specifically on the first block of Indiana Avenue. The altercation ended in tragedy, with law enforcement responding to reports of a shooting later that morning.

Upon their arrival, officers from the Dayton Police Department discovered Staggs on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Miami Valley Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

At the time of the shooting, Staggs was working on an assignment for Dunham’s Lawn Care LLC, according to the Dayton Daily News.

“Tanner always had a positive attitude, was a good team player, got along well with others, was patient and understanding and a leader among our crew,” the landscaping business said in a statement provided to the newspaper. “He was a young man with so much life ahead of him. His passing leaves an unimaginable void for his loved ones, our team and the entire landscaping community.”

Investigators spoke with witnesses who said Jackson exited a home on the day in question and began arguing with Staggs about getting grass clippings and dirt on his vehicle during the landscaping work, according to court documents obtained by the Daily News.

In response, Jackson was told the crew would use a blower to get the grass clippings off his vehicle, but this proposed solution did not appease Jackson.

Instead, the defendant pulled out a 9 mm handgun and fired multiple times. Ultimately, Staggs was shot twice.

The killer, for his part, offered a slightly different narrative during a 911 call, to investigators and during his trial by way of his defense attorney, according to Dayton-based CBS affiliate WHIO.

To hear Jackson tell it, he only fired his weapon after being hit without warning. His lawyer said Jackson had made a reasonable request.

Other landscapers, however, directly contradicted this claim — testifying they never saw any such assault but that Jackson spoke disrespectfully and argued before pulling out his gun and firing.

In the end, the jury agreed with the state. As the guilty verdict was read aloud, the defendant put his hand to his face, WHIO reported.

“It is unimaginable that someone would become so upset about grass clippings on their car that they would fatally shoot someone,” Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. said in a statement announcing the sentence. “Using a firearm to settle minor disputes is never acceptable.”

Charles Barkley Challenges ESPN with Controversial Cardi B Remarks During NBA Finals: Will They Take Action?

0

Charles Barkley recently challenged ESPN to terminate his contract following his comments on Cardi B’s notable performance during halftime at Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

During a Wednesday segment of the “Dan Patrick Show,” the outspoken sports analyst expressed, “Honestly, I’m hoping they let me go.”

He added, “I’ve got another six or seven years on my contract, which I know I won’t fulfill. It would be fantastic if they fired me and had to pay me out for those years.”

At 63, Barkley mentioned that no executives have reached out to him regarding his statements. Nevertheless, he’s fully aware of the stir he caused online.

“Can’t people handle a joke?” he asked rhetorically. “They can kiss my ass. I value all the support over the years, but anyone who agrees with them is simply misguided.”

“So if people don’t like me or don’t have a sense of humor, they can kiss my ass,” the retired NBA star continued.

Cardi B, meanwhile, took the court to perform her hits “Bodak Yellow” and “Bodega Baddie” during the halftime of the New York Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs match at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Monday.

The Grammy winner, 33, performed in a plunging bustier and leggings alongside Knicks City Dancers, and Barkley couldn’t help but add in some commentary.

“I don’t know if those B’s. They might be Cardi D’s,” he quipped, referring to the hitmaker’s chest size.

“I’m pretty sure those aren’t B’s,” Barkley continued.

The media personality’s “Inside the NBA” co-hosts, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal and Ernie Johnson, laughed at the remarks, as Johnson stated, “I don’t know who said that, but I know it wasn’t me.”

Barkley continued the bit, saying, “She’s got the wrong initials.”

The remarks caused a divide, with one person calling Barkley out, writing, “The man is a grown adult on national television reducing a performer to her body like it’s 1995. It’s not funny, it’s not clever, it’s just sad.”

“Only Chuck can say something that wild and still be loved for it,” another added.

The fourth game of the NBA finals will occur on June 10, with Wu-Tang Clan performing and Taylor Swift to be amongst the star-studded attendees, Page Six exclusively reported.

Track Meet Tragedy: Karmelo Anthony Faces Solitary Confinement Ahead of Prison Term

Karmelo Anthony found himself in solitary confinement after being taken into custody for his murder conviction on Tuesday. The courtroom proceedings culminated in Anthony receiving a 35-year prison sentence for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. This tragic incident occurred during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas.

Following the conviction, Anthony was transferred to the Collin County Jail, where he is currently housed in isolation within the facility’s infirmary, according to reports from News Media. This measure is often taken to ensure the safety of the inmate and to assess their mental and physical health in such high-profile cases.

The gravity of the situation is captured in a new mugshot of Anthony, taken at the Collin County Jail, which starkly illustrates the somber reality of his conviction and the beginning of his lengthy incarceration.

Fashion enthusiasts find themselves at odds over a pair of Valentino pumps priced at $1,100, with some critics likening the footwear to pig’s hooves due to their design.

The Open Toe Révélé Suede Pumps from Valentino have gained traction among celebrities, including Hailey Bieber and Tyla, who have been spotted donning the eye-catching shoes in recent months.

Available in black, a rust-colored orange, and a bluish-green shade called aquamarine, these pumps feature an unusual cut-out that exposes the wearer’s toes prominently.

While these shoes have become a favorite in Hollywood, the response from social media has been less than enthusiastic, with many users questioning the peculiar design.

In a recent TikTok video, a user named Oly shared her experience trying on the pumps, admitting, “I really thought these were going to be flattering. Very glad I tried these on and didn’t blind buy them.”

‘I swore I loved these in pics and then I tried them on and I hated them,’ she added in the caption.

The video went viral, raking in a whopping 32.6 million views and many people rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts on the expensive heel.

Many poked fun at the unusual shape and claimed that it made Oly look like she had pig feet.

‘This is the literal worst shoe I have ever seen in my entire life,’ chimed in another user.

‘I cannot believe these actually survived production and are out in the wild for purchase,’ read a fourth comment.

A fifth said: ‘Walk a mile in these Loupigtons.’

‘Not the Peppa steppas,’ read another comical post, which referred to the famous children’s character Peppa Pig.

‘Is your house made of straw, sticks or bricks?’ asked someone else, in reference to The Three Little Pigs tale.

‘There couldn’t possibly be an uglier shoe on the planet,’ announced another user.

‘The shoes?!?! I die,’ wrote another fan.

‘Holy moly the shoes,’ said someone else alongside a fire emoji.

Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo Opens Up About Sharing His Truth with Wife Fleur Shomo

Caleb Shomo recently shared the pivotal moment when he decided to come out to his wife, Fleur Shomo.

On the June 10 episode of the “Disrespectfully” podcast hosted by Katie Maloney and Dayna Kathan, the 33-year-old Beartooth lead singer recounted, “I was in the shower, as I had been many times, trying to muster the courage to speak up. Eventually, I had to give myself a mental push and thought, ‘It’s time to be honest.’” Caleb went on to reveal that he then spoke to his wife about his feelings towards men and his long-standing reluctance to explore these emotions. He expressed, “I couldn’t hold it in anymore, and that conversation marked the beginning of a new journey.”

Caleb chose to open up to Fleur, 32, during a trip to Palm Springs, feeling a sense of security that encouraged him to be truthful about his sexuality.

Reflecting on his past, he said, “I did everything I could to suppress those feelings in my conscious mind, but I finally reached a point where I couldn’t continue keeping it hidden.”

Who Is Caleb Shomo’s Wife? What to Know About Fleur Shomo After the Beartooth Frontman Came Out

Fleur has been a supportive presence in Caleb’s life long before his public coming out. The couple, who began their relationship in 2010 and married two years later, have been through various chapters together, including Caleb’s transition from being part of Attack Attack to leading Beartooth. In May 2026, Caleb publicly shared his truth, further solidifying their bond.

Shomo also shared he felt “terrified” to acknowledge the feelings he had pushed down for so many years.

“I was just bawling my f***ing eyes out, trying so hard to verbalize and I really struggle to verbalize things,” he admitted. “And this is obviously such an intense thing, and I’m feeling so nervous and so scared in the situation that it was really, really difficult to verbalize, and I didn’t verbalize it very well. I tried my best. I’m trying to give myself grace and understand it’s a journey.”

Shomo was able to explain to Fleur that he had feelings for men and had been “running from” that idea “for a long f***ing time.”

“I don’t think I want to run anymore,” he recalled of their heart-to-heart conversation. “Then after that, the f***ing hinges got ripped out.”

After coming out, Shomo felt like everything started to “make sense” and some of the negative feelings he had about himself started to dissipate.

Last month, Shomo came out about his sexuality in a public statement.

“There has been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life as of late and I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further. I am a proudly gay man,” the musician wrote via Instagram in May. “This is something I’ve been unpacking and reckoning with in my life for quite some time now. It’s been difficult to navigate the feelings surrounding the subject and figure out what to do with this fact.”

Shortly after Caleb’s post went viral, Fleur expressed her support for him.

“Our nearly 14yrs of marriage was wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love. Nobody will know anything about our marriage like we do. And no one can ever truly know what depths of love exist between two people unless they are those people,” she wrote, in part, via Instagram at the time. “I already miss it & my husband more than anything. Our story was a good one. And now it’s done.”

Looking back on it now, Caleb feels “good” about where he is now and is proud to be living his truth. However, he was surprised by some of the reactions he saw online.

“I’m very happy I did it and it feels like a weight lifted,” Caleb said on Wednesday. “But at the same time it was just so eye opening and kind of scary realizing how many people are so deeply, deeply opposed to this and opposed to being gay in general. Let alone me being the position that I am in and the music scene that I am in and frankly my life leading up until it.”

WNBA Icon Sets New Record Against Former Team

0

Angel Reese made a triumphant return to Chicago, carving out a notable victory and etching her name into the WNBA record books.

Reese delivered an impressive performance with 17 points and 17 rebounds, leading the Atlanta Dream to an 82-75 victory against the Chicago Sky in what was her first regular-season confrontation with her former team.

This achievement marked Reese’s 57th double-double in her WNBA tenure, setting a new record for the most double-doubles achieved within the first 75 games of a player’s career, as highlighted by ESPNW.

Her record-setting game came against the very team that selected her as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 draft, before trading her to Atlanta earlier this year.

On April 6, the Sky announced Reese’s trade to the Dream in exchange for first-round draft selections in 2027 and 2028, along with an exchange of second-round picks in 2028.

Reese did not need long to make her presence felt back in Chicago.

She controlled the glass throughout the night and added four assists and two steals as Atlanta improved to 8-3.

The achievement also placed Reese in rare company beyond the WNBA.

According to ESPNW, across the last 40 seasons in the NBA and WNBA, only Shaquille O’Neal had more double-doubles than Reese through his first 75 games.

Reese’s 57 tied Blake Griffin for second-most over that span.

The comparison underlined just how quickly Reese has established herself as one of basketball’s most consistent rebounders.

Chicago led by three at halftime and still held a one-point advantage entering the fourth quarter, but Atlanta closed stronger.

The Dream outscored the Sky 25-17 in the final period to pull away, with Reese’s rebounding helping Atlanta generate the extra possessions it needed late.

Rhyne Howard also scored 17 points for the Dream, while Naz Hillmon added 16. Allisha Gray and Jordin Canada each scored 14.

But the night centered on Reese, who began her career in Chicago and returned with another reminder of the production that has defined her early WNBA career.

Reese has made double-doubles look routine since entering the league, but this one carried extra weight.

It came on the road, against the team that moved on from her, and pushed her to the top of the WNBA record book through 75 career games.

The Dream left Chicago with another win. Reese left with history.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Faces Shocking Sexual Assault Allegations from Former Child Actor in New Lawsuit

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KTLA) – In a legal development, a former child actor has taken legal action against Sean “Diddy” Combs, accusing him of sexual assault. The lawsuit was filed on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, with documents accessed by media outlets such as USA Today and TMZ revealing the details of the allegations.

According to the court documents, the plaintiff, identified as Doe, was a child actor during the time of the alleged incident. He recounts meeting Combs at a networking event set in the Hollywood Hills in 2007. During their encounter, Combs purportedly suggested a private discussion about Doe’s career in a secluded area of the venue.
