As is customary in shows produced by Taylor Sheridan, the casualty list at Dutton Ranch continues to grow. Episode 5, titled “Peaceful Find Peace,” delivers a poignant and unforeseen farewell to a character dearly loved by fans.

In the aftermath of the massive livestock losses from Episode 4, the latest chapter sees Rip, portrayed by Cole Hauser, accepting a position as the foreman of Beulah’s (Annette Bening) ranch to provide for his family. Concurrently, Beth (Kelly Reilly) makes a surprising proposal to the Jackson matriarch, suggesting a partnership aimed at enhancing the prosperity of Beulah’s ranch. Meanwhile, Carter (Finn Little) extends an invitation to his “warrior princess,” Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind), to join him in meeting his newfound friend Dwight White (Ray McKinnon) and to help care for his African leopard, Xena.

This gathering of significant figures in Carter’s life initially seems like a joyous occasion. However, in retrospect, it marks the onset of a sorrowful conclusion that unfolds as the episode progresses. Curious about who meets their demise in Episode 5 of Dutton Ranch? Who Dies In Dutton Ranch Episode 5?

In a key early scene, Carter brings Oreana to Dwight’s ranch, allowing her to feed Xena and spend quality time with him. Oreana finds the experience both peaceful and impressive as she engages with Dwight and rekindles her connection with Carter. However, her chaperone, Miguel (Berto Colon), is less than thrilled, quickly whisking her away as if she were “the president’s daughter.” As she departs, Dwight offers Carter a piece of advice, saying, “That woman is going to break your heart into a thousand pieces, and it’ll be the best damn feeling you’ve ever had.”

Later that episode, Carter’s heart does indeed shatter, but Oreana isn’t to blame.

Still avoiding Beth and school, Carter spends the day drinking beer, chatting with Dwight, and longing to return to Montana. He stays with his pal until nightfall again, but after the sun goes down and Carter clocks flashing police lights in the distance, Dwight realizes he’s done for. ” Fucking skunks at our lawn party!” he screams before making a run for it.

A cop car tails him, Carter hears a gunshot, and by the time he catches up to them Dwight is face down in the dirt lying dead in front of Xena’s cage. Sheriff Wade (Josh Stewart) shot him and points his rifle at Carter, ready to take him down, too.

Does Carter Die In Dutton Ranch?

Before Wade has a chance to act, another office tackles Carter to the ground right beside Dwight’s body, forcing him to stare straight at his friend’s bloody face. Wade claims that he shot Dwight because “he had a knife, damn near cut me.” But Carter sees Dwight’s blade safely stored in its holder and undoubtedly understands the reality of the situation.

As a tearful Carter grieves his friend, Wade takes him to the station again and tries to assure him that “Dwight White was no good.” The sheriff rattles off a list of prior offense, from theft to insurance fraud and even calls him a “drunkard.” To the slander, Carter simply replies, “He was my friend,” then stands on business, reminding Wade, “You killed him.” In response to the harsh truth, the corrupt sheriff threatens Carter, saying, “This is your second time in my jail, repeat offender like my buddy Dwight. I’d think real hard about what happened to him… Smart people don’t ask dangerous questions. How smart are you, son?”

Though Carter wants to go nuclear and have justice genuinely be served, he assesses the situation carefully and says, “I don’t want my folks to know.” A relieved Wade honors the terms of their dirty deal and says, “Then you weren’t at Dwight White’s tonight. Never saw a thing. You’ll never say a word.”

In the end, Carter took the safe way out and lived. But he’s lost a part of his innocence he can never regain and he will forever view the world and the authorities through a different, more dangerous lens. Whether he lets himself realize the cops’ convenient timing — just hours after Miguel drove Oreana away — is another story. Before the episode ends, Carter walks up to Miguel’s truck and rather than confront him, he cries into Oreana’s arms as Miguel kills the lights to give them their privacy.

In the closing words of Beth, “peace will have to wait” on Dutton Ranch.

Karen Read, a Boston resident recently acquitted of murder charges in the death of her police officer boyfriend, is making headlines again as she heads back to court. Read has initiated a new lawsuit against the Town of Canton and the Massachusetts State Police, citing alleged failures in the investigation process.

The lawsuit, consisting of 87 pages and obtained by News Media, was filed in Bristol Superior Court on Thursday morning. It claims that both organizations suffer from “an entrenched culture of bigotry, misogyny, systemic failures, and institutional decay.”

Included in the court documents are a series of messages filled with expletives that were exchanged between the case’s former lead investigator, ex-Trooper Michael Proctor, and former Canton Police Sergeant Sean Goode. The lawsuit points to these messages as evidence of widespread misconduct and negligence in the investigation into John O’Keefe’s death in 2022.

One particularly concerning text from Goode, as revealed in the documents, stated, “[S]he’s a jew…so def puts out.”
