Video footage shared by FreedomNewsTV vividly depicts the tense standoff, with protesters attempting to impede the movement of vehicles exiting Delaney Hall in Newark. Federal authorities are seen actively working to prevent these individuals from blocking the roadway and to clear the path for the vehicles.

The confrontation escalated as the recorded images show federal agents pushing protesters away from the vehicle they were impeding. In response to contact with the vehicle’s hood, agents resorted to using pepper spray and batons to deter the protesters and restore order.

On Tuesday night, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin addressed the latest confrontation in a post on X.

“ICE law enforcement officers were assaulted by anti-ICE rioters who sprayed law enforcement with an unknown chemical substance,” Mullin wrote, adding that two individuals were arrested for allegedly assaulting, resisting and impeding federal officers.

The clashes extended a weekend protest over conditions for detainees in the facility, prompted by a reported hunger strike undertaken by the detainees themselves.

Mullin on Monday denied the claims, writing, “There is NO hunger strike at Delaney Hall. There are no subprime conditions.”

During the days of demonstrations, prominent New Jersey Democrats came to the facility, including Sen. Andy Kim and Gov. Mikie Sherrill. While Kim was allowed entry to the facility, Sherrill was denied.

Democrats, including Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., rallied around Sherrill, criticizing ICE and the facility on social media.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday said, “We will NOT let rioters stop or slow @ICEgov down.”

“While New Jersey sanctuary politicians and anti-ICE agitators chose to spend their Memorial Day weekend smearing law enforcement and rioting outside ICE’s Delaney Hall facility, our law enforcement continued to put their lives on the line to arrest murderers, pedophiles, and kidnappers,” the department wrote on X, replying with a thread of posts and images of criminal illegal aliens they say have been arrested.

Jonah Tong took the mound after the opening pitcher and effectively silenced a few potential comebacks that he himself had allowed to arise.

In his performance, Tong induced three swings and misses out of 11 attempts on his 17 cutters. His efforts set the stage for a pitching staff that ultimately left 17 opposition runners stranded on base.

The Mets’ most promising pitching prospect secured his first win of the season on Wednesday, delivering 3 ²/₃ innings of relief to help secure a 4-2 triumph over the Reds.

Prior to his season debut in the major leagues last week, Tong hadn’t appeared from the bullpen since his days in Single-A back in 2024, according to Baseball Reference.

“Throughout my career, I’ve prepared in various ways,” Tong remarked. “I’m here to pitch, regardless of the timing, location, or number of innings. My role is to put the team in the best position to succeed and to compete.”

Entering with a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, Tong’s command was spotty as he walked four and threw only 44 of 76 pitches for strikes. He scattered three hits.

“Some longer counts toward the end than I’d like,” Tong said. “Just a lot of things I think I can work on moving forward, but overall happy I was able to clean some innings for the guys.”

But Tong gut-checked to strand two runners on base in the second inning, two more in the third after his throwing error opened the door for an unearned run to score, and one in the fourth.

He turned over a two-on, two-out jam to Tobias Myers, who needed one pitch to escape trouble.

“I thought he was good the first couple innings attacking the strike zone,” manager Carlos Mendoza said. “He doesn’t make that play and it completely changes the outing — cost him an extra 20 pitches. I felt like he was getting tired toward the end, but he competed and found a way.”

Tong was electric in 22 starts in the minors last year before posting a 7.74 ERA across his first five MLB starts.

He was off to a miserable start this season at Triple-A (5.68 ERA) but received a desperation promotion anyway and came out of the bullpen to throw a scoreless, game-ending three innings against the Marlins.

Wednesday was more of a traditional “opener” strategy, with Tong scheduled to replace Huascar Brazobán after one inning to create matchup advantages, according to Mendoza.

“We’re going to need him,” Mendoza said. “We’re going to continue to get creative here, whether it’s opener, using him as a bulk [reliever]. We’re going to have some off days coming up, so there’s a lot of different ways we could go.”

Said Tong: “The cutter was cool to see today, see how that plays. As we go forward, it’s just being on the attack for the entire game. I felt like I let up a little bit toward the end.”

Natalia Vodianova, a renowned figure in the fashion industry, has strutted down the runway for over 200 shows, appeared on numerous Vogue covers, and led advertising campaigns for brands like Calvin Klein and Stella McCartney.

Stability from a paternal figure was not forthcoming; her stepdad walked out on her mother Larisa when their daughter, Natalia’s half-sister Oksana, was born with cerebral palsy and later diagnosed with severe autism.

‘We lacked everything in my childhood — including compassion from other people because of my sister. People hated being our neighbours,’ she previously told Options. 

‘There was no support around us for special needs and my mother refused to put Oksana in an institution, so we were unable to give her what she needed. 

‘We can laugh about it now, but it was really difficult at the time.’ 

As Larisa struggled to support her children – she also has a third daughter, Kristina – she set up an illegal fruit stall. 

The young Natalia (then just 11) started to skip school and worked 12-hour days in below-freezing temperatures with her mother.

And when she wasn’t doing that, she would help care for Oksana at home.

Larisa worked hard, but she was no businesswoman, and there was no money. Some days, all Natalia would eat was a sachet of soup.

‘I was hungry a lot of the time — you get used to it,’ she told the Daily Mail.

There were also no holidays, no toys, barely any clothes and no privacy. 

She and Oksana shared a bed for ten years — ‘I love her to bits. She is like a part of me. It’s really strong and I miss her because I don’t see enough of her now.’

She often had to wear last year’s shoes when her feet had grown several sizes. ‘It was agonising pain — I can’t tell you how painful.’

Skinny, ragged and tainted by her stigma of a disabled sister, bullying was inevitable.

‘I still have a scar because someone threw something metal at me — I was bleeding,’ she said.

‘But the mental abuse was worse. They were spitting at me and saying I was dirty like my sister and that they don’t want to touch me because they’re going to get poisoned.’

When she hit puberty and her breasts started growing, she thought she was dying. No one had explained anything about her developing body.

‘I was petrified. When my breasts started growing, one grew first and I was convinced it was cancer. I was hoping it would go away. The fear I felt! I didn’t want to worry my family with more things until eventually I was desperate and asked my gran,’ she explained.’

Her mother didn’t think to tell her about periods either and, seeing how she was struggling, Natalia didn’t want to trouble her. 

‘It was really hard on her emotionally — she lost a lot of her hair, she lost her teeth. 

Sometimes I wonder how she didn’t commit suicide,’ she said. ‘I couldn’t bear to worry her about anything else.’

Natalia just put her head down — ‘I was never the complaining sort’ — took over the fruit stall and spent her days, and often nights, manning it in temperatures as low as -40.

‘I felt helpless. It wasn’t a choice, I had to be strong. Where I come from you just dream to get through another day,’ she explained. ‘All you want is to not think about money or food or clothes. Getting through the Russian winter — it was super cold.

‘It was worse than you could probably imagine,’ she said, adding: ‘But it was good training!’

Her life changed dramatically at the age of 17 when a model scout encouraged her to go to Moscow, where she signed to an agency. 

Soon she was on a plane to Paris, from where she became one of the best-known models in the world, with campaigns for brands including Calvin Klein and Diane von Furstenberg.

At 19, she married the British aristocrat Justin Portman and had three children – Lucas, now 24, daughter Neva, 20, and Viktor, 18 – before the couple split in 2010.

A fortnight after giving birth to first son Lucas, she was back on the catwalk. ‘I did 40 shows that season!’ she said.

She has worked relentlessly ever since, modelling, setting up her Naked Heart Foundation, running Love Balls and Fund Fairs to raise millions.

Shortly after her divorce, Natalia was spotted on holiday with Antoine Arnault, CEO of Berluti and chairman of Loro Piana – and also the son of Bernard Arnault, chief executive of LVMH, the company that owns Guerlain. 

The Frenchman is the second child and the eldest son of billionaire Bernard Arnault, who controls the LVMH empire.

The company owns approximately 75 luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Tiffany & Co, Sephora and Moet & Chandon.

As of December 2025, Bernard Arnault has an estimated net worth of $190 billion, per Forbes.

The couple went on to have two sons together, Maxim, 11, and Roman, nine – and the family live in Paris.

In a 2017 interview with W magazine, the model gushed over her wealthy beau, stating: ‘Since almost our first date, it has been a superb roller coaster ride.’

Antoine returned the favour, saying: ‘I remember seeing her and my jaw sort of dropped internally. I mean, of course she’s beautiful, but she has something undefinable. There’s an aura about her.’ 

In 2019, Natalia gave a glimpse into their romance, revealing that she does the majority of the household chores. 

Despite her busy career as a model and ambassador to various charities, the majority of the errands fall on her.

Speaking in The Telegraph, she revealed that Antoine does not do the cooking, adding: ‘Even scrambled eggs is an issue for my man’.

Explaining that the one errand he did help with was putting the children to bed, she added: ‘It’s still a female-dominated space, still women are making the decisions of what to feed their baby, what to buy’. 

The pair got engaged later that year, with Natalia sharing a picture with friends on New Year’s Eve of her brandishing a sizeable sparkler on her ring finger while enjoying a warm embrace with Antoine.

‘This year has been beautiful and very memorable,’ Natalia captioned the image.

Appearing on Suzie Menke’s podcast Creative Conversations in June, she revealed the couple had planned to host their wedding guests at a gala dinner at Ruinart’s house.

She also explained that her wedding dress was not yet ready for the event, because she had not been able to try it on amid the Covid-19 restrictions.

She revealed she had been inspired by shots from the wedding of Grace Kelly, but wanted a ‘more rock and roll version’ of the dress.

Natalia has also admitted that it was because her divorce from Justin put her off the idea of tying the knot again.

She said: ‘Honestly, after the last divorce I wasn’t rushing to get married. But time has shown that this relationship is very strong.’

And the supermodel confirmed she would again sign a pre-nuptial agreement before she wed the fashion mogul.

She said: ‘When you build a relationship for life you have to have discussed all possible scenarios.

‘If you love each other you will want to love each other even if you separate, and the best way to keep the relationship amicable is to have a solid agreement in place.

‘You stay together for the right reasons as well because the financial side, which can be the very painful part of a relationship, is out of the way and it’s just love.’

On Tuesday, it was announced that Natalia is expecting her sixth child.

‘Her sixth child, at 44. I knew immediately that she had to be our summer cover star.’

The trial of a store owner accused of murder in the 2023 shooting of a Black teenager commenced in South Carolina, as the jury listened to the opening arguments on Wednesday. The case has sparked intense debate, with the prosecution labeling the incident as an unjustified act, while the defense argues it was self-defense.

Chikei Rick Chow, a 61-year-old of Asian descent, is charged with the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton. The tragic event occurred following a pursuit in Columbia, after Chow mistakenly believed the teenager had stolen four bottles of water from his gas station convenience store. The incident deeply affected the African American community in Richland County, where nearly half of the residents are Black, stirring emotions of sorrow and anger.

The prosecution acknowledges that Carmack-Belton was carrying a semiautomatic pistol. However, they contend that it fell during the chase, and at no point did the teenager threaten anyone with it. Conversely, Chow’s defense team claims that Carmack-Belton aimed the pistol at Chow’s son, Andy, prompting Chow to fire in defense of his child. It is important to note that Chow held a concealed weapons permit.

During the proceedings, prosecutor Byron E. Gipson addressed the jury with a poignant question: “Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, what is the value of a human life?” He emphasized the immeasurable loss experienced by the boy’s parents due to what he described as a senseless act of violence. He continued, “On May 28, 2023, Chikei Rick Chow, the defendant in this case, determined that Cyrus Carmack-Belton’s life was worth less than four bottles of water.”

Gipson added: “But on May 28, 2023, Chikei Rick Chow, the defendant in this case, determined that Cyrus Carmack-Belton’s life was worth less than four bottles of water.”

Prosecutor disputes defense claim

Gipson then tried to cast doubt on Chow’s claim of defending his son.

“In what world do you get to falsely accuse a 14-year-old of stealing, chase a 14-year-old 130-plus yards down a road while you’re armed with a pistol, shoot that person in the back, then claim you’re defending your son?” he said, calling the shooting “senseless” and “heinous.”

Defense lawyer Jack Swerling began his opening statements questioning why the teen was carrying a pistol equipped with a laser sight around the streets of Columbia.

“If he didn’t have that weapon, he never would have had a weapon to draw on Andy Chow,” Swerling said. “He never would have had a weapon to put Andy Chow in danger. And he never would have had a weapon that would cause Mr. Chow to believe his son was going to be shot and have to make a split-second decision — a split-second decision — as to whether or not to go ahead and fire that gun and protect his son.”

Afterward, Chow performed CPR on Carmack-Belton, which Swerling said helps prove Chow acted without malice — a required element of a murder charge in South Carolina.

Defense lawyer calls shooting tragic but justified

“Nobody’s saying everybody’s happy about this, but unfortunately there are occasions in human life when someone has to exercise that right of self-defense or defense of others,” Swerling said. “It’s sad. It’s tragic. There’s no question about that.”

Chow sat between his lawyers at the defense table, wearing a dark suit, white-collared shirt and no tie with his legs shackled, occasionally writing on a notepad.

Operating a business was a dream for Chikei Rick Chow, Swerling said. Chow was born in Hong Kong and his wife was born in Malaysia. Both became U.S. citizens and had two sons, he said.

Protesters came to Chow’s store the day after the shooting demanding justice and saying Chow mistreated Black customers. Police records showed he shot at shoplifters twice in the past eight years but did not face charges after investigators said he acted in self-defense. After the protests, Chow’s store was vandalized and broken into and cigarettes and beer were stolen, police said.

After opening statements, a police officer who responded to the shooting was the first witness to take the stand in the trial that is expected to last several days.

Witness testifies that teen looked scared

Witness Lori Carson testified that she saw Carmack-Belton running away from the store with Chow and his son in pursuit. She said she never saw a gun or anything else in the teen’s hands.

“He just looked frightened, scared. He looked like he needed help,” Carson said of the teen. “Just like a young child just in trouble, just needed help.”

She said that after they ran down the street, she saw Chow in a shooting position while the teen was on the ground. She became emotional as she described trying to help Carmack-Belton by removing leaves from his mouth while Chow performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Authorities said the shooting happened about 130 yards (120 meters) from the store. A gun was found near Carmack-Belton’s body, but investigators have said there is no evidence the teen ever directed the firearm at Chow or his son.

Carmack-Belton had entered the store about 8 p.m. and quickly drew suspicion from the Chows, prosecutors said. He took four water bottles out of a cooler but put them back, they said. He got into an argument with the Chows and denied their allegations of stealing, then left the store, authorities said.
