Trump Delivers Unconventional Inspiration to Coast Guard Cadets Amidst Traditional University Commencements

0

Earlier this week, I penned an article examining the outlook of House Minority Leader, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08). His perspective on America and the world seems to starkly contrast with the optimism and hopeful vision championed by Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

In a demonstration of this contrasting vision, President Trump delivered a commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, on Wednesday. His speech painted a picture of a confident and assertive America, one that does not shy away from celebrating its successes.

President Trump’s message was clear and resonant. Unfortunately, it’s a narrative that many graduates across the nation might miss, given that universities are often criticized for their perceived bias. This issue was highlighted by RedState’s Ben Smith in a report published on Sunday.

President Trump to the graduating cadets at the @USCGAcademy:

“The Class of 2026 is graduating at an incredible, exciting time for our nation […]

Our national strength is back, our morale is back […] confidence is back, and, above all, American is back, BIGGER and BETTER and STRONGER than ever before.

We have a STRONG, GREAT, RESPECTED country again”

You tell ‘em, Mr. President. That’s a message that most graduating students around the country won’t be hearing because our universities have become hopelessly biased, as RedState’s Ben Smith reported Sunday:

A new analysis from The College Fix found Democrat or Democrat-leaning speakers outnumber Republican or Republican-leaning speakers by roughly 6-to-1 at the nation’s Top 100 universities. The outlet identified just six Republican or right-leaning keynote speakers compared to 38 Democrat or Democrat-leaning speakers at major undergraduate commencement ceremonies.

Ridiculous.

Hakeem the Extreme: Bitter Jeffries Unloads Rage at Voters, Athletes, and Reality

Trump, speaking at the Academy for the first time since 2017 during his first presidency, wasn’t done. Unlike liberals, the president thinks we need to apologize to no one:

During his remarks, Trump noted that the graduating class was “blessed with many tremendous athletes,” and he asked two of them to join him on stage:

First, Trump introduced Broock Desta, the academy’s all-time leader in receptions, yards and touchdowns.

“Do we have a little NFL future here? Maybe? I don’t know, usually that could happen when you’re leading by that much,” Trump said of Desta.

Desta also played for the academy’s basketball team his senior season, but he was a true star on the gridiron. In 36 career games, Desta caught 29 touchdowns while also rushing for one and throwing another. He racked up 3,487 receiving yards on 234 catches.

Next to the stage was women’s lacrosse star Abby McAllister, the women’s lacrosse program’s all-time leader in assists and points.

“Are you that good?” Trump asked jokingly before adding, “That’s a big record.”

He also noted that his 2019 executive order changed the game by allowing graduates of military academies to go pro before fulfilling their active-duty requirement. “It has made such a difference,” he said. “It’s also made a big difference in recruiting. That’s why your teams are better today than they used to be…”

The president left with a parting gift for the new grads: he absolved them of (some of their) sins:

.@POTUS jokes with graduating cadets at the @USCGAcademy who “may have spent a little bit too much time” at the local bar:

“We want you all to have a clean slate as you begin your careers—so therefore, Mr. Superintendent, I hereby absolve all cadets who are on restriction for minor conduct infractions—and even somewhat major infractions—effective immediately!” 🤣

Congratulations, graduates. No need to apologize!

Watch the entire speech here (cued up to the beginning of his remarks):

Notorious Felon Strikes Again: 18-Time Offender Arrested for Deadly Stabbing

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have apprehended 43-year-old Henri Prichon Hart following a deadly stabbing incident that took place on Mother’s Day.

At around 11:15 p.m. on May 10, officers from the Gainesville Police Department were dispatched to the 600 block of NW 3rd Street, where they discovered a male victim with numerous stab wounds to his upper body. Despite being swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Efforts to locate the weapon were unsuccessful after a thorough search by officers and a K-9 unit from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

According to an eyewitness account, the victim had arrived on a bicycle and paused to converse with her. The situation escalated when another man approached, began assaulting the victim, and subsequently retrieved an object from his pocket to stab him. The witness quickly retreated indoors to urge someone to call 911. Upon returning outside, she observed the assailant kicking the victim, who lay on the ground. She noted that the attacker departed eastward on NW 6th Avenue on a bicycle and was dressed in a shirt featuring stripes of orange, yellow, and white.

Surveillance video from the area reportedly showed Hart riding a bike westbound toward the incident location at 11:07 p.m., and at 11:09 p.m., he can be seen riding eastbound on NW 6th Avenue and holding a shiny object in his hand. Hart is wearing an orange-and-white striped shirt in the video.

On May 18, GPD received an anonymous tip that the suspect in this case had the nickname “Hitman” and lives in the “100 building.” The tip also said that “Hitman’s” real name was “Oanry” or “Aunray” and sounded like “Henry.” The “100 building” is the common name for Oak Park Apartments (100 NE 8th Avenue). “Hitman” is a known alias for Hart.

Surveillance video from Oak Park reportedly shows the victim on the fifth floor, speaking with a neighbor, and Hart can be seen on the same floor, pacing back and forth and wearing black gloves and an orange-and-white striped shirt with yellow between the stripes.

Two women are seen going down the elevator, and then they exit the building, walking bicycles. The victim is also seen going down the elevator with his bicycle, and he leaves the building at 11:03 p.m. and speaks with the two women.

Hart is seen going down the stairwell, and he leaves the building at 11:04 p.m. and walks toward the victim and the two women. As Hart gets close to the group, the victim leaves on his bicycle, and Hart takes a bicycle from one of the women and follows the victim southbound on North Main Street. At 11:11 p.m., Hart returns to Oak Park with the bicycle, still wearing the black gloves. A short time later, one of the women returns to Oak Park and can be seen walking from the area of Hart’s apartment holding a bag.

The woman who had the bag was reportedly with Hart when he was arrested, and she said that when she returned to Oak Park that night, she found Hart cleaning a bloody knife in the toilet. She said he gave her a bag and told her to put it in the trash room but not in the trash can; she said she believed the bag contained Hart’s clothing from that evening.

Post Miranda, Hart reportedly said he did not get along with the victim and that he was riding his bike on the night of the incident when he saw the victim. He said that when he approached the victim, the victim threatened to kill him and eat him, so he drew a line in the ground and told the victim not to cross it. Hart said when the victim came within arm’s reach, he punched the victim one time, and the victim fell to the ground but got back up. He said he punched the victim again, and the victim fell to the ground again but kept kicking him.

Hart said the victim pulled out a knife, and he fell on top of the victim, causing the knife to stab the victim. He said that when he got up, he saw the victim’s “soul leave his body,” and he returned to Oak Park and burned his clothing and shoes somewhere else. He also said he cut his hair and beard after the incident. He denied having a knife during the incident and denied stabbing the victim.

However, the officer noted that his statements about the victim stabbing himself one time were not consistent with the two stab wounds in the victim’s upper chest.

Hart has been charged with first-degree homicide and tampering with evidence. This article will be updated later today with his full criminal history and any bail amount, but he has at least 18 felony convictions (two violent) and 11 misdemeanor convictions (one violent), and he has served six state prison sentences, with his most recent release in December 2025.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

Bizarre ‘Mangionistas’ Movement Sparks Curiosity with Mysterious Letters

The Issue: Three fans of Luigi Mangione who received press passes from City Hall to cover his trial.

Just when it seemed the Mamdani administration couldn’t possibly stoop any lower, it has granted press credentials to three women to cover Luigi Mangione’s trial (“Luigi press club,” May 19).

These are the same individuals who made the appalling remark that UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s children would be better off without him. Such a statement is deeply disrespectful, especially considering Thompson was tragically murdered. It’s a disgrace that City Hall saw fit to provide them with access to the courtroom.

Howard Kohn

Flushing

When did it become acceptable to support someone accused of premeditated murder? These young women, with their misguided actions, undermine the principles of our legal system, which champions change through democratic means, not through destruction.

What these simpletons are saying is that it’s better to murder someone with whom you disagree than collectively pursue change through legal process that, ultimately, would be better for all.

Ron Goldman

Brooklyn

If Luigi Mangione was obese, toothless, ugly and bald, do you think the three brainless young ladies would be at the courthouse? The sad part is that they live among us.

Pat Vazquez

Wayne, NJ

I’m a long time reader of The Post and was shocked to see the “Luigi fan club” on Tuesday’s front page and again on pages 4-5. What were you thinking? You’ve given these misfits a respectable platform to spread their anarchy and become “famous.”

What kind of a society are we if we celebrate cold-blooded murderers as if they are heroes? There will always be wackos who support some kind of anti-societal behavior, but we need not give them front-page exposure. It just gives them traction and makes them seem reasonable.

Kenneth Lebeck

Plainview

What a disgusting display by those three lunatic women who said CEO Brian Thompson deserved to die and his children are better off without him.

And equally disgusting are the lunatics now residing at City Hall, issuing them press passes to “cover” the trial. I’m not expecting much from the prosecutors office, as I’m quite sure Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg shares the same sentiment as these women. What happened to the once great New York City?

Greg Cantiello

Parrish, Fla.

Thank you for bringing to light that, in their support for Luigi Mangione, these three “reporters” could show such disregard for human life.

They think murder is justified just because of someone’s job. The fact that they mentioned Brian Thompson’s children is even more reprehensible. I think their goal here is not to report on the trial, but rather to be as disruptive as possible.

The saddest part of this is that, deep down, people like Mayor Mamdani, Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders probably share the feelings of these women.

Ted Rallis

Mamaroneck

I wonder if the three vile, despicable lunatic Mangionistas would be so vocal and on the front page if the murder suspect was a 4’7” illegal immigrant from a Third World country.

Bill Lewis

Danbury, Conn.

The trio of “Mangionistas” who received their press passes from City Hall under the Mamdani administration used their press access not to report, but to spout hate and deranged evilness. But the issuance of press passes by the Mayor’s Office goes back a few years and it’s obvious the process has been corrupted.

The system of the Mayor’s Office issuing press cards is broken or needs serious overhauling. With the already widespread distrust of the press, this will only add more cynicism and distrust.

Jack Chen

Flushing

The inability to make moral distinctions, as recognized by economist Thomas Sowell, is an acquired immune deficiency syndrome of intellectuals.

But apparently, the syndrome can also be acquired by unthinking morons and those providing them press passes. One has to question the source of such moral depravity.

Sienna Miller took to Instagram on Wednesday to reveal the physical toll her exciting role in the new Jack Ryan movie had on her, after admitting she eagerly pursued a part alongside John Krasinski.

The 44-year-old actress jumped back into work just three weeks after welcoming her second child with her partner, Oli Green, to promote her appearance in the thriller, a continuation of the popular TV series.

Jack Ryan: Ghost War premiered on Prime Video on Wednesday, and Sienna marked the occasion by posting a series of behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram.

Among the images, Sienna showcased some impressive bruises on her arm from filming, along with a humorous video capturing her mishap with a prop gun as she fumbled and dropped the magazine.

She captioned the post: ‘Do an action movie, they said…it’ll be fun, they said…I love these people dearly ♥️ Jack Ryan is out now on @primevideo.’

Sienna also posted a cheerful selfie from a dinner with co-star John Krasinski, sharing anecdotes of the amusing lengths she went to in order to land her role.

The star is close friends with John’s wife Emily Blunt, and during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she shared how she landed the role in the Jack Ryan series.

She said: ‘Emily Blunt – I’m going to name drop her – is one of my best friends.

‘And [her husband] John Krasinski for her 40th birthday took 10 of us to an island, it was really quite beautiful. And we had several cocktails and I was having a moan about being in independent films that seven people see.’

‘And I was like, ”I just need to do an action film.” And John and Emily looked at each other and were like, ”Yes, Jack Ryan.”

‘I literally threw myself at [Krasinski] to get this part. And then he wrote it for me and it was very sweet.’

Jack Ryan: Ghost War follows on from the TV series of the same name, and follows the title character after departing the CIA and returning to civilian life, with Miller joining as new character, MI6 officer Agent Marlow.

During her Tonight Show appearance, Sienna also confessed she’s surviving on ‘very little sleep’ as she opened up on returning to work just three weeks after giving birth.

The British actress returned to business as usual with her glamorous chat show appearance just three weeks after welcoming the tot with boyfriend Oli Green, 29.

The couple are already parents to a two-year-old daughter, while Sienna is also mum to daughter Marlowe, 13, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Tom Sturridge.

During her appearance on the show she opened up about the transition of having another child and spoke about her nightmare flight over to the US to promote new action movie Jack Ryan: Ghost War.

Sienna said: ‘It feels like stringing sentences together is a bit challenging. I’m on very little sleep but I’m madly in love with my baby.

‘It’s crazy to be talking words and wearing a dress. What has happened from pajama gate.’

Asked by the host which of her children are tougher to look after, she said: ‘I would have said the teenage girl would be harder to juggle until the transatlantic flight I took yesterday with the toddler and the newborn.

‘The toddler now wins hands down. It was an absolute disaster. There’s no negotiating.

‘I got to the immigration line and just broke down.’

Sienna announced that she had welcomed her second child with Oli, telling E! News last week: ‘It’s happened. I have a tiny baby next door. It feels like stringing sentences together is a bit challenging…

‘I’m on very little sleep but I’m madly in love with my baby.’

She is currently blazing the promo trail with her latest movie, Jack Ryan: Ghost War, and announced the sweet news to the publication in her promotional interview.

Sienna announced her third pregnancy by revealing her blossoming bump at the star-studded Fashion Awards in December.

It was only right for the actress to make her revelation with a statement look on the blue carpet outside the Royal Albert Hall in London.

And it is not the first time Sienna has used the red carpet at a fashion event to announce she is expecting.

Back in September 2023, Sienna revealed she was pregnant with her second child at the star-studded Vogue World Show.

The actress walked the red carpet at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane in a Schiaparelli puffball skirt and a cropped shirt which showcased her baby bump.

Previously speaking about Oli, Sienna told Harper’s Bazaar: ‘I didn’t expect to take it seriously and then quite quickly, I fell in love.

‘I wasn’t like, “I’m gonna get a younger boyfriend.” It was more, “F***! Why are you young? That’s so annoying.”

‘There is a difference in the way that generation of men respect women. It’s specific to him, he is very wise and well-adjusted, but I do believe it’s also that generation.

‘They have grown up with a slightly more level playing field. I see it in his female friends as well as in the men.’

Top 4 Upper Body Exercises to Keep You Fit After 60

Mastering these exercises signals that your physique is in prime condition for your age group.

Here’s an important reminder: You only have one body to rely on, making it crucial to maintain its well-being. This means nourishing your body with healthy foods and engaging in regular physical activity. Such habits can ward off chronic illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Consistent exercise not only helps in weight management but also strengthens your body and promotes healthy aging.

But how can you truly assess if your body is robust and healthy? Beyond receiving a positive health assessment from your doctor, there’s another gauge: If you’re past 60 and can execute these four upper-body exercises, your body is in commendable shape.

“While machines have their uses, they don’t mirror the body’s natural functioning. They control the path and plane, eliminating real-life variables. This aspect is particularly crucial for this age group. The ultimate aim isn’t merely to gain strength in the gym but to ensure that strength is applicable outside of it,” states Rob Moal, CPT, a Vancouver, BC-based expert with over two decades of experience in aiding clients to build muscle, lose weight, and move without discomfort.

“Machines have their place, but they don’t replicate the way the body actually has to work. They fix the path, they fix the plane, they remove every variable that matters in real life. And for this age group specifically, that matters more than ever. The goal isn’t just to be strong in the gym. It’s whether that strength transfers outside of it,” explains Rob Moal, CPT with Train Like Rob who’s based in Vancouver, BC and has over 20 years of experience helping clients build strength, shed fat, and move without pain.

What Is Functional Fitness?

Functional fitness is typically used to describe one’s ability to move seamlessly and maintain independence as they age. They’re able to perform daily tasks like carrying grandchildren, lifting grocery bags, reaching overhead, and getting up off the ground with ease.

“In the training world, I tend to think about this less as a specific category of exercise and more as the result of maintaining muscular strength, mobility, balance, and coordination over time,” explains Fredrick Hahn, Owner at SlowBurn Personal Training Studios. Hahn has owned his SlowBurn Personal Training Studios in New York City and New Jersey for over 20 years, and he and his team work with clients 60+ daily.

“As we age, one of the biggest physical changes we experience is the gradual loss of muscle mass and strength, unless we actively work to preserve it through resistance training,” Hahn adds. “So when evaluating whether someone is ‘in good shape’ after 60, I’m looking at how effectively they can control and use their body in real-world movements, not just whether they can lift a certain amount of weight on a machine.”

Below are four upper-body moves that signal you’re in stellar shape.

Full Pushups

“This is my baseline. Most people don’t think of a pushup as a dynamic plank, but that’s exactly what it is,” Moal tells us. “The whole system has to work, pressing strength, core, scapular control, all of it moving together as one unit. Someone over 60 who can do five clean reps tells me everything I need to know about how their upper body is actually functioning.”

  1. Start with a high plank with hands under your shoulders and your body straight.
  2. Bend your elbows and lower your chest toward the floor.
  3. Maintain a long, straight body as you lower.
  4. Press back up, straightening your arms.
  5. Perform 5 clean chest-to-floor pushups.

Dead Hang

“Grip strength is one of the most researched predictors of longevity, consistently linked to cardiovascular health and all-cause mortality. A dead hang also shows me shoulder mobility and joint integrity in a way no machine replicates,” Moal explains.

  1. Hold onto a pull-up bar with an overhand grip.
  2. Allow your body to completely hang with arms extended and feet off the floor.
  3. Hang onto the bar for 20 to 30 seconds as a solid baseline. If you’re able to hold for 45 seconds or more, this signals strong grip and shoulder integrity—especially for those 60+.

Pull-ups

“Pull-ups are the gold medal of upper-body testing. Most people over 60 can’t do one, and that’s fine. But if someone can complete one to three full dead-hang pull-ups with control at this age, that’s exceptional. That tells me their posterior chain is strong, their shoulder joint is healthy, and they have real functional reserve that most people their age simply don’t have,” Moal points out.

  1. Begin standing tall.
  2. Grab onto a pull-up bar using an overhand grip, just outside shoulder-width.
  3. Completely extend your arms to assume a dead hang position.
  4. Activate your glutes, core, and back as you pull yourself up until your chin clears the bar.
  5. Use control as you lower yourself back to the start position.
  6. Perform 1 to 3 full dead-hang pull-ups with proper form.

Waiter’s Walk

“I call it the upper-body cousin of the farmer’s carry,” Moal tells us. “Most people have no idea how much is being tested in that one movement. Shoulder stability, thoracic mobility, core control, and gait. All of it at once. The second something breaks down, you know exactly where the weak link is.”

  1. Begin standing tall, holding a kettlebell overhead.
  2. Begin to walk forward.
  3. Walk 20 to 30 feet with control.

Almost 40 years after the tragic murder of a 22-year-old woman from Virginia, authorities have finally made a breakthrough in the cold case by arresting a suspect.

The Newington Police Department has announced that Charles Berry, a 66-year-old resident of Newington, Connecticut, was apprehended on Monday. He faces charges related to the 1986 rape and murder of Roberta Walls, as detailed in an official statement from the department.

The arrest was a joint effort with the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD), which had issued an arrest warrant for Berry based on charges related to the homicide in Virginia Beach.

The investigation dates back to May 15, 1986, when the lifeless body of Roberta Walls was found in a field behind Old Donation Elementary School, as reported by the VBPD.

Former College Football Star Turned NASCAR Pit Crew Hero Rescues Reporter from Runaway 4,000-Pound Box

In Dover, Delaware, a NASCAR pit crew member’s split-second decision is making headlines across the nation.

At Dover Motor Speedway last Friday, the team members who are trained to act with lightning speed found themselves in a real-life test. One member’s swift actions potentially averted a tragedy.

“It was undoubtedly one of the most frightening experiences I’ve ever had,” shared Donovan Williams.

Footage shared by FOX NASCAR captures Williams, a tire carrier for Hendrick Motorsports, bravely attempting to halt a runaway 4,000-pound pit box that was barreling towards a gathering of people, including Fox Sports reporter Amanda Busick.

“Donovan used his body to absorb the cart’s impact,” Busick recounted. “His background as a former Division 1 athlete certainly helped. I wouldn’t have been able to withstand that cart. The situation could have turned out very differently if not for his intervention.”

Williams, who played football for the UConn Huskies, took the full force of the box, slowing its momentum, but the collision severely injured him.

“The first thing I am thinking of is about my family and my career. [I] just didn’t know the extent of the injuries. [I] just remember feeling how much pain I was in and the amount of blood. I think my body went into shock because of all the trauma,” Williams recounted. “Just extremely fortunate that her or myself were not physically harmed even worse.”

Williams was rushed to the hospital, where, once he was treated, he was paid a visit by Busick.

“That was some real trauma for the both of us, and she has been amazing, coming by to see me, check on me at the hospital, meet some of my family and my teammates,” Williams said.

“We were texting last night, and he was asking me how I was feeling, and I was like, ‘like I got hit by a football player,’” Busick said, laughing.

While Williams continues to heal, he’s got quite the story, a new appreciation for life, and a new friend.

“This was the circumstance that we met, which is kind of crazy, and we joke that next time we see each other, it will be under some normal circumstances,” Williams said.

Williams is taking it day-by-day and is working with medical and training staff to heal and get his mobility back.

Former Federal Prosecutor Accused of Emailing Confidential Trump Case Documents to Personal Account

0

WASHINGTON — In a striking development, a former federal prosecutor from Florida has been accused of violating a court order by sending a confidential special counsel report to her personal email. This report stemmed from an investigation into President Trump’s retention of classified documents, as revealed by an indictment made public on Wednesday.

Carmen Lineberger, who was part of the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Florida and led the Fort Pierce division, is now facing charges such as theft of government property and hiding official records.

During a court session in West Palm Beach, she entered a plea of not guilty.

Files marked "TOP SECRET" and "SECRET" scattered across a rug, next to a Bankers Box containing framed "TIME" magazine covers.
Classified documents found during the FBI raid of President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla. in 2022. AP

Efforts to reach her legal representative for comments have so far been unsuccessful.

According to prosecutors, Lineberger, while serving as a Justice Department attorney last year, allegedly emailed herself a copy of the report compiled by special counsel Jack Smith and his team. This report detailed their investigation into the storage of highly sensitive documents by Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach.

The indictment alleges that Lineberger sought to conceal her actions by altering the original file name of the report to “Bundt_Cake_Recipe.pdf” before saving the re-titled file on her government computer and emailing it to her personal email account.

The indictment does not explain why Lineberger may have wanted to send the report, which prosecutors say she had access to in her professional capacity as a prosecutor, to her own email account.

The volume detailing Smith’s findings in a criminal investigation once seen as posing significant legal peril to Trump has never been seen by the public.

US District Judge Aileen Cannon backed arguments from Trump’s lawyers that it would be unfairly prejudicial to release the report after Smith abandoned the case in the aftermath of Trump’s 2024 election victory.

Lineberger worked in the same judicial district where Smith’s documents case against Trump was filed.

That case accused Trump of illegally retaining at his Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach dozens of classified records from his first term in office and obstructing government efforts to get them back.

Lawmaker’s Celebratory Message Sparks Controversy: Omits Key Letters from LGBTQIA+AAPI Acronym

0

A Seattle lawmaker recently sparked discussion after advocating for the celebration of the LGBTQIA+AAPI community, only to face online criticism for the omission of two letters. This incident unfolded following remarks by Seattle City Councilmember Dionne Foster during a Monday meeting, where she seemed to extend the acronym to honor Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

During the session, Foster, known for her identity as a “Queer woman of color,” shared her ideas on Pride Month with fellow council members before introducing her proclamation for ‘Pride Asia Day.’ This day, she explained, serves as a powerful reminder of intersectional identities and provides an opportunity to honor the LGBTQ Asian and Pacific Islander communities who are actively creating safe spaces for visibility and protection.

“Pride Asia allows us to ensure that LGBTQIA+AAPI residents are celebrated,” Foster emphasized, highlighting the importance of recognizing these diverse communities and their contributions.

‘So, Pride Asia is a powerful reminder about intersectional identity, and gives us an opportunity to celebrate LGBTQ Asian and Pacific Islander communities who are creating their own spaces to be seen and protected.

‘Pride Asia gives us the opportunity to ensure that LGBTQIA+AAPI residents are celebrated,’ Foster, a ‘Queer woman of color’, stated.

A clip of her reciting the abbreviation was then posted on Reddit, where a user called Foster out for not including the letters ‘NH,’ which stand for Native Hawaiians.

‘Note: she forgot NH (Native Hawaiians),’ the poster said.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is alternatively known as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

It is unclear if they were being serious or sarcastic in their comment, but it drew attention from others who were left puzzled by the acronym.

‘Identity gymnastics is so tiring. May is already AAPI heritage month. June is already Pride month. So anyone who identifies with or as LGBTQAIAAPI can already choose to celebrate and be recognized in May, June or both months,’ one person posted in the thread.

‘Celebrating what? How do you even read that,’ wrote another.

Someone else chimed in: ‘I post LGBT. That’s good enough. More than that is silliness in my opinion.’

‘Yeah, I just do LGBTQ+, cause I feel like the Q and the + represent everyone else not explicitly mentioned,’ a person shared.

Foster, who had both of her proclamations approved by city councilmembers, reminded her colleagues how Seattle is proud to be ‘a welcoming city’ and place ‘where all of our queer residents can feel safe, and warm, and welcome.’

She joined the Seattle City Council in January 2026 after defeating incumbent Council President Sara Nelson in November’s general election.

According to her government profile, she has ‘spent the last 15 years improving access and outcomes for vulnerable Seattleites.’

In a July 2025 article published by Seattle Gay News, Foster was referred to as ‘a Queer woman of color’ who ‘understands the variety of complex issues that face the Queer community in Seattle.’

The former non-profit leader promised to focus on housing issues in the liberal city.

Over the years, Seattle has struggled with high crime rates and open-air drug use, all while being one of the most expensive cities to live in the US.

After being sworn in at the start of the new year, Foster pledged to help solve issues that every day residents are facing.

‘Our neighbors want to be able to raise their families here and have access to good schools and safe neighborhoods,’ Foster said, according to The Urbanist.

‘Our neighbors want the buses to come on time. Our neighbors want us to build the damn trains. Our neighbors want to feel safe crossing the street. Our neighbors want safe places to sleep at night. They want more housing and more places around the city, and they want thriving third places to spend their day, whether that be a park, a library, or a neighborhood business, and they all want to be able to afford to stay in the city that we all love so much.’

Her pledged commitments come as the city’s new mayor, Katie Wilson, has pushed for affordable housing for residents.

In doing so, she has vocalized possibly imposing a 9.9 percent ‘millionaire’s tax’ on the wealthy in the city.

Foster appears to agree with the mayor’s stance, telling the outlet:  ‘Listening to Mayor Wilson talk about, not only do people deserve bread, but they deserve roses, and rest, and space to live their lives.

‘There’s a lot that we agree on, right? I think we agree on the need for new revenue. I think we agree on focusing the agenda on housing.

‘I’m so excited to collaborate with the new mayor on expanding the shelter capacity.’

The Daily Mail contacted Foster’s office for comment.

1st Circuit Dismisses Controversy Over Access to Transgender Child Records

The Trump administration achieved a favorable ruling from a federal appeals court, potentially granting the government access to sensitive information about transgender children treated at a private hospital in Rhode Island.

In July 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice issued a subpoena to Rhode Island Hospital, which is both the state’s only Level I Trauma Center and the primary teaching affiliate of Brown University’s medical school.

The subpoena initially demanded that the hospital provide the DOJ with confidential medical records, including “personally identifying information and personal health information of children who had received gender-affirming care” at the facility, as stated by the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

While deadlines passed, discussions continued over the specifics of how the hospital might fulfill the request.

On April 30, the DOJ escalated its efforts to enforce the subpoena by submitting a 13-page petition to a court in the Northern District of Texas.

“The Department of Justice expects and demands full compliance with validly issued subpoenas like the one at issue here,” Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division Brett A. Shumate said in a press release announcing the new avenue of litigation. “Non-compliance with lawful process is never an option.”

Later that same day, Chief U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor, a George W. Bush appointee, ruled in the government’s favor.

“The Court finds that the subpoena was issued within the Department of Justice’s statutory authority, the subpoena seeks documents reasonably relevant to the investigation, and the subpoena’s demands are reasonable,” the Lone Star State federal court said.

Earlier this month, the Child Advocate for the State of Rhode Island, a state office in charge of protecting the rights of children under state care, moved to quash the subpoena in a Rhode Island district court.

“The sweeping Subpoena seeks an extraordinarily broad set of sensitive medical records—including the identities, diagnoses, clinical assessments, and intimate personal details—of minor patients who received gender-affirming medical care,” the 47-page motion to quash argues. “This unprecedented intrusion into the private medical information of children, many of whom are among the most vulnerable in our state’s care, cannot be justified by any legitimate law enforcement purpose.”

The motion to quash also suggests the DOJ was wrong to try to enforce the subpoena in Texas — without explicitly making the argument. The motion does, however, complain about the DOJ conducting such efforts ex parte and “without any filed opposition.”

“The Child Advocate was not a party to, and had no notice of, the Texas proceeding, and has had no opportunity to be heard on the Subpoena in any court,” the motion to quash goes on.

Days later, the DOJ contested the motion to quash and also moved to transfer venue on the basis of having filed in Texas first.

In turn, U.S. District Judge Mary S. McElroy, who was appointed by President Donald Trump during his first term, denied the transfer motion by citing the ex parte nature of the Texas case and by noting that different “constitutional privacy rights” were at stake since the Child Advocate represents patients instead of the hospital itself. The Ocean State judge also quashed the subpoena.

“The district court found that the Subpoena lacked a congressionally-authorized purpose, was issued for an improper purpose, and violated the Fourteenth Amendment privacy rights of the Hospital’s child patients,” the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit summarized. “The Rhode Island Order quashed the Subpoena and enjoined the DOJ from seeking or receiving patient-identifying information or protected health information responsive to the Subpoena.”

In each case — in each state — the relevant parties appealed.

What on the surface appears to be a complex legal battle between various judicial systems, judges, defendants, and the government, was given short shrift by the Boston-based appellate court.

In a three-page opinion, the three-judge panel ruled against the advocate — declining to issue an injunction pending appeal “that would order the Hospital not to turn responsive records over to anyone.”

A long sentence in the terse opinion notes the myriad issues at play:

In deciding that request, we set aside a host of procedural problems, such as whether the Child Advocate may obtain an injunction against the Hospital that would subject the Hospital to mutually irreconcilable orders issued by courts in two different federal circuits, whether the injunction the Child Advocate now requests would be an impermissible collateral attack on the May Texas Order, or whether the Child Advocate may obtain such an order — against a nonparty it has not sued — by application to this court without first seeking relief in the district court.

But, as the panel says, all of those issues are being shelved in order to determine whether, at this stage, the advocate was able to show that enforcing the subpoena would result in “irreparable harm.”

And, at this stage, the court says the government’s request is relatively harmless due to the nature of what, exactly, will be provided – and due to the safeguards provided by the court system itself.

“In its order, the Northern District of Texas assured the parties that the documents would be held ‘in camera pending the outcome of the appeals’ and would be provided to the DOJ only ‘should the courts of appeals rule against [the Hospital],’” the ruling notes.

Notably, the judges say the produced documents are not subject to review by “an adverse party” — at least not anytime soon.

“The Child Advocate cites no authority for the proposition that providing anonymized records to a court — particularly one that has assured the parties that the records will not be disseminated unless and until the parties’ appeals are resolved — could constitute irreparable harm,” the order concludes.
