Transform Your Arms After 60: 5 Effective Home Exercises to Eliminate Arm Jiggle Faster Than the Gym

Looking to firm and tone your arms from the comfort of your home? These exercises could be your solution.

Once you hit your 60s, you might notice a bit of extra jiggle in your arms that wasn’t there before. This is due to a mix of factors like loss of lean muscle, reduced collagen, and a build-up of fat around the triceps. As metabolism slows and skin loses its elasticity, fat tends to accumulate in the upper arms. This phenomenon is often referred to as “bat wings” or “turkey wings.”

Emily Schofield, a Certified Personal Trainer and Gym Manager at Ultimate Performance, which has set the standard in personal training since 2009, sheds light on this issue. “Many people notice changes in their upper arms as they age. The skin may sag, muscle mass decreases, and the firmness in the back of the arms seems to fade,” she notes. “While aging is inevitable, it doesn’t mean you have to settle for weaker, less defined arms after 60. I’ve worked with numerous clients in their 60s who have achieved stronger, more sculpted arms through targeted strength training and progressive overload techniques. Building upper arm strength and muscle is absolutely achievable at any age.”

For effective upper arm training, the focus should not be on endless repetitions of toning exercises. Instead, it’s about adopting a strategic approach that targets strength and muscle development.

When training your upper arms effectively, it’s less about performing countless toning exercises that require hundreds of reps.

“Building firmer arms actually requires a good understanding of the anatomy of the upper arm, training both the biceps and triceps effectively, and progressively challenging the muscles over time,” Schofield adds.

Below, she shares five at-home exercises you can do to firm arm jiggle faster than gym sessions after 60.

Dumbbell Hammer Curls

“Hammer curls are one of the best arm exercises for older adults because they train not just the biceps, but also the brachialis and brachioradialis muscles that contribute to fuller-looking arms and improved grip strength,” Schofield explains. “Unlike traditional curls, hammer curls use a neutral grip, which is often more joint-friendly for aging wrists, elbows, and shoulders. As a general rule, neutral-grip pressing and pulling variations can be more comfortable for older trainees dealing with shoulder issues.”

  1. Begin seated with your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Hold a dumbbell in each hand, using a neutral grip.
  3. Keep your arms completely extended at your sides and relax your shoulders.
  4. With your palms facing inward, curl the weights up toward your shoulders.
  5. Use control to lower.

Overhead Tricep Extension

“If the goal is firmer-looking upper arms, overhead triceps extensions should be a priority. Since the long head of the triceps contributes heavily to arm mass, training the arm overhead is particularly effective because it places the muscle into a fully lengthened position. Overhead extension exercises are one of the best ways to train the long head of the triceps through its full range,” Schofield notes.

  1. Stand tall, feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell with both hands. (Alternatively, begin seated on a sturdy chair or workout bench with your feet planted on the ground.)
  2. Lift the weight overhead.
  3. Keep your elbows close to your ears as you slowly lower the dumbbell toward the back of your head, feeling the stretch in your triceps.
  4. Use control to press the weight back overhead.

Incline Pushups

“Pushups remain one of the most effective upper-body exercises because they simultaneously train the chest, shoulders, and triceps. However, standard floor push-ups may be too difficult for many adults over 60, at least initially,” Schofield says. “Instead, using an elevated variation, for example by using a countertop, sturdy bench, or even your sofa, makes the movement more accessible while still delivering excellent arm-training benefits.”

  1. Use a stable surface like a wall, countertop, plyometric box, or workout bench, and place your hands on it, shoulder-width apart.
  2. Walk your legs back so you’re at a straight incline from your head to your heels.
  3. Keep your legs together and rise onto the balls of your feet. Engage your core and keep your gaze forward.
  4. Bend your elbows to lower your body until your chest lines up with your elbows.
  5. Return to straight arms.

Resistance Band Rows

“Although rows are typically thought of as a back exercise, they are excellent for improving arm firmness because they heavily recruit the biceps and forearms while strengthening the upper back and posture,” Schofield tells us. “Poor posture tends to worsen with age due to muscle loss and inactivity, and this can make the arms appear softer and less defined. Strengthening the upper back improves shoulder positioning and creates a more athletic-looking upper body overall.”

  1. Begin by anchoring a resistance band to a sturdy pole at chest level.
  2. Stand tall, facing the anchor point.
  3. Hold the handles with both hands.
  4. Bend your elbows and pull the band toward your body.
  5. Squeeze your shoulder blades together.
  6. Extend your arms back to the start position.

Dumbbell Split Squats

“At first glance, split squats may not seem like an arm exercise, but they are one of the best total-body movements for older adults because they allow your arms to hold significant resistance while the lower body works,” Schofield explains. “Holding dumbbells during split squats forces the arms, shoulders, grip, and upper back to stabilize the load throughout the exercise. This creates additional muscular tension across the entire upper body while also improving lower-body strength, balance, and coordination.”

  1. Begin standing tall in a split stance with a dumbbell in each hand.
  2. Maintain a tall chest and braced core.
  3. Bend both knees to lower toward the floor.
  4. Descend until your front thigh becomes parallel to the ground.
  5. Press through your front heel to rise back up.
  6. Repeat on the other side.

Live Coverage and Updates: Eurovision Song Contest 2026 Grand Finale

0

The Eurovision Song Contest operates as a non-profit organization, primarily funded by fees from the participating broadcasters.

The cost of participation varies for each nation. According to the official Eurovision website, there is a principle of “solidarity,” meaning that wealthier countries shoulder more of the financial responsibility.

France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Spain, collectively known as the “Big Five,” are among the largest financial supporters. These countries enjoy the privilege of automatic entry into the Grand Final.

This year, several countries, including Spain, chose to boycott the contest due to Israel’s involvement, citing concerns over its actions in the Gaza conflict.

Austria’s national broadcaster, ORF, noted in December that the absence of these countries could present a “financial burden” to the contest’s budget.

The fees each country pays are usually shielded by pesky non-disclosure agreements, but they were enough to make Bulgaria pull out of the competition for several years.

Former Google Executive Faces Backlash During Commencement Speech Amid Harassment Allegations

0

During a commencement address at the University of Arizona, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt faced a wave of boos amid allegations of sexual harassment by his significantly younger ex-girlfriend.

Prior to Schmidt’s appearance, students distributed flyers urging attendees to ‘turn their backs’ as the 71-year-old took the podium on Saturday.

Schmidt’s talk, which focused on artificial intelligence, was met with intense criticism from the audience.

Addressing the crowd, Schmidt acknowledged the discontent, stating, “I understand what many of you are experiencing. I can hear you. There is a fear,” he noted, as students vociferously expressed their disapproval.

“There is a fear among your generation that the future is predetermined, that machines are taking over, that employment opportunities are vanishing, that the climate is deteriorating, and that political systems are fractured, leaving you to deal with issues you did not create,” he continued.

‘The question is not whether AI will shape the world. It will. The question is whether you will have shaped artificial intelligence.’

While other speakers received strong applause, Schmidt was met with boos and jeers.

It came after students reportedly handed out flyers referencing sexual harassment allegations involving Schmidt and his ex, Michelle Ritter, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

Schmidt’s 32-year-old ex has accused him of stalking, abuse and putting her under an ‘absolute digital surveillance system’. He has dismissed the claims as ‘demonstrably false.’

Schmidt’s speech also drew ire from the Students for Socialism at Arizona University over his remarks on AI.

‘In his speech, he patronized graduates for being “afraid” of AI and admonished students to accept it’s inevitability—even though, in the hands of wealthy tech billionaires like Schmidt,’ Students for Socialism at Arizona University posted on Instagram.

‘Schmidt’s speech insulted the intelligence of his audience. We, the students and the workers, reject his finger-wagging, shameless threats to our value of our degrees, jobs, and lives!

‘Only the working class can determine what the future has in store for us, not the billionaire class!’ The post read.

Schmidt was announced as a speaker at the ceremony back in April.

Ritter filed for a temporary domestic violence restraining order against him late last year, accusing him of locking her out of the AI startup she founded with over $100million of Schmidt’s backing.

Their legal battle began in September of 2024, when Schmidt filed an arbitration against Ritter for breaking a business agreement regarding her company, Steel Perlot.

Schmidt called Ritter’s allegations ‘demonstrably false,’ adding it was ‘a blatant abuse of the judicial system’ in an 82-page response submitted in October 2024.

In December of 2024, they reached a ‘written settlement agreement,’ forcing Schmidt – whose net worth is said to be $44.8 billion per Bloomberg – to make ‘substantial payments’ to Ritter over her initial accusations against Schmidt in September.

On December 11, a week after that settlement, she filed for a restraining order over alleged domestic violence and made other explosive allegations, according to documents obtained by The Daily Mail.

She accused Schmidt of using his money and experience in tech against her, leaving her nowhere to hide.

‘Please note Eric’s technical background. I literally cannot have a private phone call or send a private email without surveillance,’ Ritter claimed in court documents.

Ritter also alleges Schmidt tried to place ‘a gag order on any sexual assault or harassment allegations and sign a knowingly false declaration that any such allegations never happened.’

She even accused Schmidt of having her parents followed. When police were called and questioned the investigators, one of them allegedly claimed to work for a ‘billionaire’s private security.’

‘Unfortunately, my former partner is extraordinarily powerful and capable and has used every mean[s] to block me from getting access to secure data, devices, finances, or businesses, or to simply live my life in peace,’ she claimed.

Ritter also accused Schmidt of having her parents followed by a private security team which he also denied

However, on January 6, 2025, three weeks after filing, she withdrew the request for a restraining order after having come to a new settlement.

Most of Schmidt’s initial response has since been redacted, while Schmidt’s legal team asked that the court documents be sealed.

The Daily Mail has contacted Schmidt, Ritter and the University of Arizona for comment.

Poland Accuses Russia and Belarus of Orchestrating Migrant Crisis at NATO Borders, Urges US Intervention

0

This article is the second installment in a series exploring the obstacles facing the NATO alliance.

AT THE POLAND-BELARUS BORDER — As armored vehicles from Poland’s 18th “Iron Division” traverse the 521-kilometer border shared with Belarus, soldiers highlight the thick forests as the setting of Europe’s latest form of warfare.

Polish authorities are raising alarms about the use of illegal migrants, allegedly manipulated by Russia and Belarus, to destabilize NATO’s eastern boundary. This tactic, Warsaw asserts, extends to the United States, posing a direct threat to American security as part of a broader conflict against the Western alliance.

Historically, this border was primarily secured by Poland’s Border Guard and police forces. However, with increasing pressure from illegal crossings over the years, Polish officials deemed the situation too significant and hazardous to manage through conventional immigration enforcement, prompting the deployment of military forces.

Troops from Poland’s 18th “Iron Division” are engaged in military drills along the Poland-Belarus border, which Polish leaders describe as part of a coordinated effort by Russia and Belarus to use illegal migration as a weapon against NATO member states.

Now, the frontier is guarded in layers: soldiers, border guards and rapid-response forces. A temporary barrier built in 2021 has become an electronic fence backed by surveillance systems and military patrols. Polish officials say migrants trying to cross have come from countries including Syria, Somalia, Afghanistan and India.

They describe the crisis as “artificial migration,” saying the illegals are flown into Belarus from the Middle East, Africa and Asia and then transported toward the Polish border by Belarusian authorities in an effort to pressure and destabilize NATO countries.

Military officials at the border said the peak was in 2021, when there were 39,697 illegal crossing attempts. By 2025, it was 29,869, slightly fewer than in 2024. So far in 2026, they have seen a major drop, they say.

For Warsaw, the numbers tell only part of the story.

Polish officials say the border pressure is not spontaneous illegal migration, but a Russian-backed Belarusian operation designed to destabilize NATO from within.

“We are at war,” Ambassador Krzysztof Olendzki of Poland’s Foreign Ministry told Fox News Digital after the border visit.

“Not only Poland, but also all the countries of the eastern flank of NATO, we are in war,” Olendzki said. “We cannot see it as a classical war with soldiers, with tanks and so on, but the war is exercised by our adversaries, by Belarus and Russia, who are using practically migrants as an asymmetric weapon against NATO countries.”

The crisis dates back to 2021, when Poland, Lithuania and Latvia accused Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime of encouraging migrants from the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere to travel to Belarus and cross illegally into the European Union. Belarus has denied orchestrating the flows, but Poland and the EU have described the campaign as hybrid warfare.

Olendzki said the goal is not only to push people across the border, but to create chaos inside Western societies.

The border visit underscored how far Poland has gone to harden what it views as one of NATO’s most vulnerable frontiers.

Capt. Angelika Korkosz of Poland’s 18th Division described the day-to-day strain on soldiers stationed there.

“Many times soldiers were faced with aggression from illegal groups of immigrants, and they have to act appropriately and calmly in accordance with the law and procedures while protecting themselves,” Korkosz told Fox News Digital.

A Polish soldier stands watch near the Belarus border, where officials say migration pressure has evolved into a form of hybrid warfare targeting NATO’s eastern flank on May 16, 2026.

Polish officials said migrants have used Molotov cocktails in at least two incidents, sparking fires near the border. Soldiers also spoke of a Polish serviceman who died after being stabbed by an illegal migrant at the frontier.

Korkosz said the challenge is not only violence, but exhaustion.

“A few months ago, we had minus-20-degree winters, so 12-hour duty during these conditions is really demanding,” she said. “Many soldiers are here for a long time, and it is getting more and more difficult, this long separation from their relatives.”

Still, she said the troops are prepared.

“The training includes decision-making under pressure in an ambiguous operational environment,” Korkosz said. “That’s why when we are here at the border, we are really well-prepared for performing our duties.”

Poland says the border defenses are working. Amb. Olendzki said the lower number of crossings this year reflects the physical barrier, the increased effectiveness of the Border Guard and the military presence. But he warned the threat has not disappeared, only shifted.

“Seeing the fact that the Polish-Belarusian border is quite well guarded, our adversaries are just pushing migrants through the borders of our neighboring countries,” he said. “So it hasn’t ended, but it’s changed the direction. The threat still exists, and we must be vigilant.”

That matters to NATO because Poland’s border with Belarus is not only Warsaw’s border. It is also the eastern edge of the European Union and NATO territory.

Belarus is Russia’s closest ally and allowed its territory to be used for Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned Russia may be trying to pull Belarus deeper into the war and could use Belarusian territory to threaten Ukraine or even a NATO country.

That fear is central to Poland’s security posture.

During a meeting with reporters in Warsaw, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski told Fox News Digital Russia’s war against Ukraine is, for Poland, “a matter of national safety and existence.”

But Sikorski said the threat to NATO countries is already wider than the battlefield in Ukraine.

“We had on NATO countries’ territories assassinations, numerous drone attacks on airports, on critical infrastructure,” Sikorski said. “We had very serious cyberattacks.”

Sikorski said Poland faced a Russian-instigated cyberattack last December on critical energy infrastructure that Warsaw believes was intended “to black out part of Poland.”

The warning fits a broader pattern of concerns across NATO’s eastern flank. The Associated Press reported earlier this year that balloons from Belarus had crossed into Polish airspace for a third consecutive night, with Polish forces describing the incidents as attempts to test air defense responses.

For Poland, illegal migration, cyberattacks, drones, sabotage and disinformation are not separate problems. They are different pieces of one Russian and Belarusian pressure campaign against NATO.

Olendzki said Poland’s role is to stop the pressure before it moves deeper into Europe or beyond.

“Standing on guard on the eastern flank of NATO, we are providing security not only to Poland, to Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, but to entire NATO, also to the United States,” he said.

Migrants at US-Mexico border

US Border Patrol agents prepare to transport migrants for asylum claim processing at the US-Mexico border in Campo, California, US, on Friday, April 5, 2024. Last week a federal judge sharply questioned the Biden administration’s position that it bears no responsibility for housing and feeding migrant children while they wait in makeshift camps along the US-Mexico border, reported the AP.  (Mark Abramson/Bloomberg via Getty Images)

That U.S. connection is a central part of Poland’s message to Washington: The eastern flank is not a distant European problem, but a front line in a broader confrontation with Russia and its allies.

Poland now spends nearly 5% of its GDP on defense, the highest rate in NATO, if based on GPD. Sikorski said Warsaw has long taken defense spending seriously.

“We never went below 2% defense spending,” Sikorski said. “Now we are spending almost 5%. This is real military spending.”

He said the eastern flank has become more influential inside NATO because countries closest to Russia were proven right.

Poland-Belarus border

“The eastern flank is much more powerful than even five years ago,” Sikorski said. “We were right about the nature of Putin’s regime and Russia’s aggressive strategy.”

That view has shaped Poland’s approach to the United States. Warsaw wants American troops to remain in Europe, but Polish officials also acknowledge that Europe must assume more of the defense burden as U.S. attention increasingly shifts toward China and the Indo-Pacific.

Sikorski said Poland understands that “Europe ceased to be angle number one for U.S. foreign policy,” but wants any change in America’s role to be “gradual and well-designed.”

He added that Poland wants the shift in trans-Atlantic security to be “not a divorce, but a new kind of relationship.”

For now, that relationship is being tested along a cold, wooded border where Poland says NATO’s future wars may already be taking shape.

The Polish soldiers patrolling the frontier do not describe their mission in grand geopolitical terms. Korkosz said she joined the military because she wanted to do “something which matters.”

But to Polish officials, the mission at the Belarus border is much bigger than immigration enforcement.

It is a warning to the rest of NATO that the alliance’s next war may not begin with tanks crossing a border, but with migrants pushed through forests, cyberattacks on power grids, drones near airports and disinformation campaigns designed to fracture societies from within.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A tragic incident unfolded late Saturday night in Oakland, California, when a driver plowed into several vehicles and pedestrians, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to several others, as reported by local authorities.

The devastating crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m., officials confirmed.

The Oakland Fire Department stated that three victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while five others were hurt, with two of them in critical condition. The driver, who was also injured, sustained only minor injuries, according to officials.

Authorities did not immediately release additional details about what led to the crash, and the driver’s identity was not made public.

The crash remains under investigation, officials said.

Tiger Woods and Vanessa Trump Thrive as Relationship Strengthens Post Rehab

0

Tiger Woods is reportedly “happy” to be back home with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, after undergoing a serious treatment for pain management in Switzerland, according to sources cited by People magazine.

The 50-year-old golf icon returned to Florida on May 14, following a six-week stay at a rehabilitation center in Zurich. This stint came in the aftermath of his involvement in a car accident and subsequent DUI arrest on March 27.

“Tiger took his time in Switzerland very seriously and is focused on his recovery, aiming to move beyond this chapter of his life,” a source from Jupiter shared with the publication.

The source further mentioned, “He is in good spirits and eager to resolve his legal matters as well.”

According to People, despite Woods’ time away, his relationship with the 48-year-old Trump remains unchanged. The couple is reportedly “still serious” and very much “in love.”

“Vanessa and Tiger are in love, still serious, and happy to see each other,” the source said.

The insider added Trump “is eager to help him continue with his progress and move beyond any more public scandals — which they both dislike intensely.”

She also leads an eventful life outside of her relationship with Woods.

“Vanessa is a busy mom, which for the most part does not get in the way of the overall vibe of her relationship with Tiger, [who is] also busy with his life, golf, charity, video game work projects and kids,” the source said.

“Each was glad to see the other, although they kept in touch while he was away,” a second source told People. “Both of them have responsibilities outside of their personal lives and that factors [into] how much time they can spend together. But each has an ex to share the kids with, so they have had enough time to keep the romance going.”

Trump’s five children have also become “like family” to Woods, the initial source added.

Trump shares five children with ex-husband Donald Trump Jr. — 19-year-old Kai, 17-year-old Donald, 14-year-old Tristan, 13-year-old Spencer and Chloe, 11.

Woods has a daughter, Sam Alexis, 18, and son Charlie, 17, with ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

Woods has become especially close with Kai, who is “a dedicated golfer” around similar age to the professional golfer’s kids, People reported.

Due to his arrest — during which he was found with two hydrocodone pills in his left pocket — Woods missed the Masters, though he stated he was “hoping to” play in the major tournament in Augusta. An additional source in the golf community told the publication Woods is excited to get back into the game and is putting a great deal of focus into his fitness routine.

“Golf is very much on Tiger’s mind and will be in [the] coming months as he gets back to it here in whatever ways he can,” the source said. “Golf is who he is, and those in the sport respect and like him. He will do whatever he has to to get back in whatever way he can in light of his injuries and age.

“He is not a quitter.”

While Woods has been encouraged to hire a driver, a source told People that they “doubt” he will do so.

Woods previously broke his silence in a post on social media four days following the crash.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” he wrote in the statement. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.

“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”

Essential Tips for Safeguarding Your Family from a Dangerous Drug

As I strolled through the London Underground recently, a sleek advertisement caught my eye, compelling me to take a closer look. It was the kind of polished promotion typically linked to a wellness brand, but intriguingly, this one was marketing medical cannabis.

The ad was from Mamedica, a prominent UK provider of medical cannabis, among several companies that have placed similar advertisements throughout the Tube and other parts of London.

While it is entirely legal, I was still taken aback to see cannabis being promoted akin to vitamins or allergy medications.

It’s crucial to understand that medical cannabis is meticulously manufactured to specific standards, with a regulated balance of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, known for its psychoactive effects) and CBD (cannabidiol, valued for its therapeutic benefits).

Moreover, there are a few recognized medical applications for cannabis that are widely acknowledged by healthcare professionals.

As a clinician who has seen the devastating effects cannabis can have on the mind, I am deeply concerned that plastering the Underground with glossy hoardings like these implies to those strolling past that it is a safe and effective drug in general.

In my clinic, I am increasingly seeing patients who have legally bought medical cannabis to combat conditions such as depression, anxiety, insomnia and ADHD.

Yet a major review of 54 previous studies published in the Lancet Psychiatry earlier this year found no evidence that medical cannabis helped anxiety, PTSD, or psychosis.

The normalisation of cannabis, whether legal or not, will have repercussions, writes Dr Max

The normalisation of cannabis, whether legal or not, will have repercussions, writes Dr Max

For depression, one of the most common reasons people seek it out, there wasn’t a single randomised controlled trial to assess.

What’s more, concerns have been raised by experts that many of the prescriptions being dished out by some of these firms are for high-potency products with THC content exceeding 30 per cent. One strain, cheerfully named Space Cake, clocks in at 34 per cent THC.

Street skunk typically contains between 14 and 16 per cent. So we are prescribing products considerably stronger than the drug wrecking young minds on our psychiatric wards, to people who are already mentally unwell, with no credible evidence that it does them any good.

Moreover, the normalisation of cannabis, whether legal or not, will, I believe, have repercussions.

In recent years, there has been a quiet cultural shift towards accepting cannabis as normal – anecdotally I hear about mums bringing illegal cannabis gummies to a wedding, where they may once have had a few glasses of Prosecco.

Fruit-flavoured sweets laced with the psychoactive component of cannabis don’t reek of skunk and allow respectable people, yummy mummies included, to tell themselves they’re not really doing drugs because nobody is holding a joint.

But the pharmacology is rather less cheerful. The effects from eating cannabis can take up to two hours to kick in, which is why people often think ‘nothing is happening’ so take a second sweet, then a third, sometimes ending up in A&E in the small hours, terrified when the cumulative effect takes its toll.

And because the dose in each sweet and its contents is essentially uncontrolled, there is no way of knowing what you’ve actually ingested.

'As a psychiatrist who has spent two decades watching cannabis ruin lives at all levels of society, I fear we have all taken our eyes off the ball where cannabis is concerned'

‘As a psychiatrist who has spent two decades watching cannabis ruin lives at all levels of society, I fear we have all taken our eyes off the ball where cannabis is concerned’

I have seen patients on psychiatric wards after a cannabis edible they were assured was ‘mild’. One, a teacher in her 40s, had taken a single sweet at a friend’s birthday party but it was four times stronger than she’d been told.

She spent three days convinced her own children were going to attack her. She had never taken a drug before in her life.

Sadly, some patients don’t come back from this state.

Even more disturbing is what happens further downstream. Essex Police recently warned that illegal cannabis edibles are being used by county lines gangs to lure and recruit children, some as young as ten, into a criminal world from which there is rarely a way back.

The ‘sweets’, packaged to look like Haribo or Skittles, are advertised cheaply over social media and posted through the door in plain envelopes that don’t smell of anything.

The poor parents would have no idea what is in the brightly coloured ‘treats’ at the bottom of the school bag.

To a county lines gang a young child with no previous convictions is the perfect courier for Class A drugs.

Home Office estimates show that about 15,500 children were identified as at risk or involved in county lines gangs in 2025.

However, it conceded that was ‘likely to be a significant underestimate of the problem’.

As a psychiatrist who has spent two decades watching cannabis ruin lives at all levels of society, I fear we have all taken our eyes off the ball where cannabis is concerned.

The video captures the chilling moment when Bailey, a transgender woman, admits to the fatal shooting of her parents, Gail and Joseph Bailey. The incident occurred in their home in Washington City, Utah, in June 2024, after the couple allegedly interfered with their child’s plans for sex reassignment surgery.

Now, nearly two years after the tragic event, the interrogation footage provides a poignant insight into the confession that shocked a community.

Mia Bailey, who has since pleaded guilty to the murders, offers a detailed account of the crime that left both parents dead, revealing the depths of a family conflict that ended in a double tragedy.

Bailey is also heard on video blaming mental health struggles for the vicious attack. Bailey told investigators that Gail tried to “sabotage” the gender transition surgery.

Bailey was born male but had undergone a name change and had been identifying as female before the attack.

This past December, Bailey was sentenced to two consecutive sentences of 25 years to life in prison after pleading guilty and mentally ill to aggravated murder and aggravated assault, according to KUTV.

Perth Quarantine Update: Australians Discover Hantavirus Test Results

0
Six people stuck in a Perth quarantine centre after a deadly hantavirus outbreak on their cruise ship have discovered they’re not infected.

Four Australian citizens, alongside a permanent resident and a New Zealander, are currently undergoing a three-week quarantine at the Bullsbrook Centre for National Resilience in Western Australia. They have just received their blood test results.

The federal Health Department has confirmed these individuals are in good health, with further testing only required if symptoms appear.

These travelers were potentially exposed to the Andes virus when a couple boarded their cruise ship after visiting regions in Argentina and Chile, areas known for hosting a rat species that transmits the disease.

The federal government has emphasized that the health and safety of the public, as well as the well-being of the cruise passengers, are top priorities.

Meanwhile, Canada has reported its first case of the virus. Among the four Canadians who were on the cruise, one has been diagnosed with the virus after experiencing mild symptoms.

Local authorities said the group had not come into contact with the public, and the infected patient was in a stable condition.

Three people died after contracting Hantavirus on the MV Hondius luxury cruise ship, sparking a global effort to evacuate and quarantine dozens of passengers and crew.

Rats carry hantavirus, but the World Health Organisation said it believed the Andes strain was capable of human-to-human transmission.

It was the first case of a hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship, according to Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO’s director of epidemic and pandemic preparedness.

Federal Health Minister Mark Butler previously said the government was taking a precautionary approach, emphasising that human-to-human transmission of the virus was extremely rare.
