The long-suffering fans of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs received a welcome boost on Tuesday night when the team secured the top spot in the draft lottery.
The Maple Leafs will have the first pick in the upcoming NHL Draft, a selection that promises access to a pool of talented players. Leading the pack is Penn State forward Gavin McKenna, who is widely expected to be the top choice.
John Chayka, the newly appointed general manager of the Maple Leafs, has been monitoring McKenna’s progress well before stepping into his role in Toronto.
“I’ve been following him for several years, and his skill set is exceptional,” Chayka commented. “His creativity, puck handling, and shooting abilities are remarkable. It’s a strong package, and I look forward to discussing it further with our scouts. There’s a lot of enthusiasm around many players, including Gavin.”
Despite having only an 8.5 percent chance, Toronto managed to win the draft lottery. The team faced the possibility of losing its first-round pick to the Bruins if they didn’t land within the top five. Instead, they’ll now give up first-round picks in 2027 and 2028 to Philadelphia and Boston.
It’s unclear which pick will go to the Bruins and which will be awarded to the Flyers. Deputy commissioner Bill Daly has called it a complicated situation, which has yet to be resolved.
McKenna’s remarkable run at Penn State was nearly sidetracked by a felony assault charge that was later dropped.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will pick first overall in next month’s NHL Draft, when a flurry of top stars will be available. Most notably, Penn State’s Gavin McKenna is expected to go first

The 18-year-old from Canada’s Yukon Territory was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment on January 31 after an off-campus altercation.
Video showed McKenna punch another man, who suffered a broken jaw according to authorities.
The following week, Centre County District Attorney and State College Police announced that the video was not clear evidence McKenna acted with intent to cause serious harm and as a result, decided to drop the aggravated assault charge, which carried a potential 20-year prison sentence.
McKenna still faces misdemeanor counts of simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment.
He was at the bar Doggie’s Pub in downtown State College with friends following an outdoor game against Michigan State, according to student news website Onward State.
Toronto won the lottery, followed by San Jose, Vancouver, Chicago and the New York Rangers

The website reports that McKenna allegedly assaulted an unidentified individual, leaving him with a broken jaw.
The incident which led to McKenna allegedly throwing a punch has not been officially confirmed.
However, multiple reports indicate that the Penn State hockey team was in a private room at the bar when a person unrelated to the team began verbally harassing a member of McKenna’s family.
Vancouver, which had the best odds at the top pick, will select third on June 26 in Buffalo.
San Jose has the second pick, while Chicago, the New York Rangers, Calgary, Seattle, Winnipeg, reigning-champion Florida and Nashville round out the top ten.
Swedish winger Ivar Stenberg is expected to get some consideration for the top pick, but McKenna’s one season with the Nittany Lions may be tough to beat. In addition to his 15 goals, McKenna added 36 assists as Penn State reached the NCAA Tournament.
The Leafs have not raised the Stanley Cup since 1967. They last picked first overall in 2016, when they selected American phenom, Auston Matthews.
In Franklin Park, Illinois, the Illinois State Police have initiated a probe into a fatal shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the department. The investigation is being conducted by the Public Integrity Task Force in the western suburbs.
The Franklin Park Police Department officially requested that the task force look into the shooting incident of Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, 38, which occurred on September 12. This was confirmed by the spokesperson on Tuesday.
ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch
The Public Integrity Task Force has already commenced its preliminary investigation. Once their inquiry is finalized, the case will be forwarded to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for further review, according to the spokesperson.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office released a statement affirming their collaboration with the Illinois State Police. They stated, “We have been in contact with ISP and will play a supportive role in their investigation, in accordance with our Federal Immigration Enforcement Action Response Protocol. We are unable to comment further on a pending law enforcement investigation.”
This investigation is unfolding shortly after the Illinois Accountability Commission wrapped up its examination of the Department of Homeland Security’s “Midway Blitz” immigration operation in the Chicago area. The commission referred some federal agents involved for further investigation and potential charges.
Back in September, ABC7 obtained body camera video of Franklin Park police responding to the shooting, which happened near Grand and Elder Lane.
DHS said the shooting unfolded when the man they were targeting in a traffic stop drove his car toward officers, hitting one of them.
The bodycam video, obtained from the Franklin Park Police Department through the Freedom of Information Act, shows police officers speaking with witnesses and ICE agents moments after the deadly shooting. And the ICE officer, who shot the man after being hit, described his own injuries as “nothing major.”
The footage begins with officers arriving to the scene. It shows Villegas-Gonzalez, who DHS says was an undocumented immigrant with a history of reckless driving, being treated on the ground after being shot by an ICE agent.
“He tried to run us over,” an ICE agent says in the video.
ABC7 blurred Villegas-Gonzalez’s body as well as faces of bystanders and witnesses.
Villegas-Gonzalez, who his family says, came to the United States more than 20 years ago from Mexico, died at the hospital.
In the video, an officer asks an ICE agent if there are any other suspects, and the agent responds, “He’s the only one.”
The shooting happened after, federal authorities say, Villegas-Gonzalez tried to escape arrest by driving away. They say during that alleged escape, “One of the ICE officers was hit by the car and dragged a significant distance. Fearing for his own life, the officer fired his weapon.”
DHS said the ICE officer suffered severe injuries and was stabilized at the hospital before being released.
The bodycam video shows how that federal agent, seen with a torn pants leg, described his injuries to responding officers on scene.
“I got dragged a little bit,” he says. “Uh, just a left knee injury, and some lacerations. Nothing major.”
Cellphone video obtained by ABC7 that same day shows when ICE officers removed Villegas-Gonzalez from his car, which crashed into a box truck.
In a response to ABC7 in September, DHS said the officer who fired his weapon has been an ICE officer since 2021, and was the first time he fired his weapon in a use-of-force incident.
The video in the player above is from a previous report.
In a spectacular return to the Met Gala in 2026, Beyoncé captivated onlookers with one of the most memorable appearances in the event’s history. After a ten-year hiatus, she graced the occasion not just as a guest but as a co-chair, steering the evening under the theme “Costume Art,” setting a new standard for fashion’s biggest night.
Beyoncé strategically scheduled her arrival for later in the evening, heightening the anticipation. As she finally made her entrance onto the red carpet, the atmosphere was electric, with photographers frantically capturing her every move. She wore an exquisite silver creation by Olivier Rousteing, featuring a sculptural bodice inspired by skeletal forms and an impressive feathered cape, perfectly embodying the “Fashion is Art” theme. Her ensemble was complemented by stunning diamond jewelry and a regal crown.
Adding to the allure of the evening, Beyoncé was joined by her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, who marked her debut at the Met Gala. Blue Ivy donned a chic, custom-made monochromatic Balenciaga gown, complete with a bubble-hem skirt and a coordinating jacket, making a notable fashion statement alongside her mother.
Among those analyzing their red carpet presence was Darren Stanton, a body language and behavioral expert with a psychology background. Formerly a police officer, Stanton utilized his skills to reveal truths during countless suspect interviews. He later transitioned to media and television, earning the nickname “Human Lie Detector” for his keen insights.
Representing Covers, Stanton shared his observations with Showbiz Cheat Sheet, stating, “Beyoncé consistently presents herself as grounded and humble. She’s always eager to engage with fans and photographers, meeting them on their level. Unlike many celebrities, she avoids power gestures, opting instead for an approachable demeanor characterized by open palm gestures. These qualities were evident in her red carpet photos.”
Speaking on behalf of Covers, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Beyonce always comes over very grounded and humble. She is always very happy to reciprocate people’s gestures for photos and meet them on their level. You never see her exhibit any power gestures, and she’s consistently approachable and open, with plenty of open palm gestures. You see all of that in the shots of her on the red carpet.”
Another expert talked about how Bey beamed over her daughter being there and how Blue handled the big night.
Inbaal Honigman is a celebrity psychic and body language expert who has been reading Tarot since the ’90s. She has appeared in the media for more than 20 years, offering her expertise and predictions for several outlets, including Big Brother’s Little Brother, Elle Magazine, and talkSPORT radio, to name a few.
Speaking on behalf of Casino.org, Honigman told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Superstar Beyoncé walks onto the red carpet like a lady who knows her worth. Her bright smile, rounded cheeks, and narrowed eyes come together to create the face of proud joy. When chatting to La La on the red carpet, Beyoncé mentions how moving it is to share the moment with her daughter. What we see is the overwhelming love that Beyoncé has for Blue Ivy, and the pride that she feels for her daughter.
“In Blue Ivy’s first few moments alone in front of the cameras, she does appear very grown up and secure on the red carpet. Once she’s seen fiddling with her outfit, nerves start to peek through. Blue is happy when her mom is by her side, and she’s even fairly comfortable when the event stewards are helping her up the stairs, but when left alone, she falls apart a little.”
Showbiz Cheat Sheet acknowledges that conditions and cultures can impact body language and is sensitive to all backgrounds.
A judge in South Carolina has determined that an inmate convicted of murdering a state trooper over 25 years ago is unfit for execution due to his mental condition, which includes delusions of immortality.
The ruling, pronounced by Judge Grace Knie, is based on the assessment of three mental health experts. They concluded that John Richard Wood, aged 59, is unable to effectively communicate with his attorneys and lacks a rational understanding of his criminal actions, the reasons for his punishment, and the execution itself. This decision was reported by WSPA and the South Carolina Daily Gazette.
All experts, including a prosecution psychiatrist and a psychiatrist and psychologist hired by Wood’s defense, concurred that Wood fails the dual legal criteria required for determining competence for execution.
This decision supports the defense’s argument that Wood’s schizophrenia severely impairs his mental faculties, rendering him ineligible for the death penalty at present.

Knie’s ruling must be reviewed by the state Supreme Court, which could determine whether to uphold or overturn her decision.
The judge said Wood believes that he is immortal, has already died three times on death row and will be resurrected again if the state executes him, citing the mental health experts’ testimony during a hearing in March, the South Carolina Daily Gazette reported.
Wood also believes he has already received a pardon from South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster.
John Richard Wood lacks the ability to rationally communicate with his lawyers and does not have a rational and factual understanding of his crimes, why he is being punished or the nature of his punishment, a judge found.(South Carolina Department of Corrections via AP/File)
The experts have said that while Wood understands why he received the death sentence, he mistakenly believes law enforcement officers were “trying to frame him for a brutal rape.”
Additionally, Wood believes the judge at his 2002 trial and courtroom personnel were working against him because they were agents of “Beloved Kevin Rudolph,” a deity that he thinks is part of a battle to rule the planet, according to the South Carolina Daily Gazette. Wood also believes he was given wings and immortality to win this fight.
He is the first inmate on death row in South Carolina found to be not competent to be put to death since the state restarted executions in September 2024 after a 13-year pause because the state was struggling to obtain lethal injection drugs. The state added the firing squad as an execution method during that hiatus. Seven executions have been carried out in the state since capital punishment was resumed, including three men who chose to die by firing squad.

Wood was convicted of killing South Carolina State Trooper Eric Nicholson in December 2000 during a traffic stop in Greenville County. Wood shot Nicholson five times during the traffic stop, according to authorities.
During a subsequent pursuit, he shot at police and hit one officer in the face with a bullet fragment. Wood was eventually taken into custody after he hijacked a truck.
He was sentenced to death in February 2002. He was among death row inmates in line to receive a death warrant after exhausting regular appeals.
While his death warrant is paused, Wood’s original conviction and sentence still stand.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the South Carolina Department of Corrections and Knie’s office for comment.
HOUSTON –– The initial four innings were a struggle, and the subsequent five offered no relief.
It seemed as though the Dodgers were shaking off their recent batting woes after consecutive victories with a total of 12 runs over the past two games. However, they were quickly grounded again on Tuesday, suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat against the Houston Astros.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Shohei Ohtani.
In three of his last four pitching appearances this season, the versatile athlete took on a singular role, stepping away from his designated hitter responsibilities to concentrate solely on his pitching skills.
Ohtani delivered a solid performance, pitching seven innings with two runs allowed and striking out eight batters. His only missteps were home runs surrendered to Christian Walker in the second inning and Branden Shewmake in the third.
The problem: The Dodgers (22-14) watched their Ohtani-less lineup go back in the tank.
The team squandered several golden chances early on, leaving six men on base through the first four frames, including a wasted bases-loaded opportunity in the fourth.
And from there, things got even worse. Astros right-hander Peter Lambert retired nine of his final 10 batters to complete a scoreless seven-inning start; the first the Astros (15-22) have gotten all season from their league-worst pitching staff.
The Houston bullpen gave up one run in the eighth on a Kyle Tucker RBI single, but did enough otherwise to keep the lead intact.
What it means
For as good as Ohtani has been as a pitcher –– finishing Tuesday with an MLB-best 0.97 ERA –– his inability to impact the offense remains a problem.
Ohtani was out of the lineup, after all, in part because of his current 0-for-17 skid as a hitter. Following a fifth-straight hitless performance Monday, manager Dave Roberts decided to change course and only have Ohtani pitch Tuesday.
The four-time MVP should be back in the lineup Wednesday, when the Dodgers will be trying to avoid a third-consecutive series loss. They could use more from his bat. Because right now, even his most dominant pitching starts aren’t enough to ensure a win.
Who’s hot
Fresh off winning National League Pitcher of the Month for March and April, Ohtani did continue his torrid start to the season on the mound, producing his longest pitching start since joining the Dodgers.
Not only did the right-hander go seven innings, but did so on only 89 pitches.
Walker tagged him for a mammoth home run in the second, blasting his 30th career long ball against the Dodgers to the stadium train tracks high above left field. But other than that, the only other damage Ohtani allowed was on Shewmake’s homer, which was a Crawford Box special that traveled only 337 feet to left.
Who’s not
The Dodgers lineup, especially with the bases loaded.
The latest example came in Tuesday’s fourth inning, when Max Muncy, Andy Pages and Alex Freeland all got aboard with two outs against Lambert. With the Dodgers down 2-0, Miguel Rojas came up with a chance to flip the game.
Instead, he hit into a fielder’s choice, dropping the Dodgers’ team batting average to .212 this season in bases-loaded situations (sixth-worst in the majors). From their 38 such plate appearances, they’ve scored only 25 runs.
The Dodgers, of course, struggled in other situational opportunities Tuesday –– which were magnified by their seventh game in the last eight without a home run
They went just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. They hit into their 32nd double-play of the season, second-most in the majors. And they saw one of their most trusted veteran bats in Rojas waste some of their best chances. His 0-for-4 included the bases-loaded out, the double-play grounder, and the final out of the game with the tying run on first.

Tyler Glasnow (3-0, 2.56 ERA) will face Lance McCullers Jr (2-2, 6.32 ERA) in the series finale on Wednesday afternoon.
In a surprising twist of fate, Rama Duwaji, the spouse of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has been noted for her controversial views on Israel, found herself in an unexpected encounter with Miss Israel at a local café.
The brief meeting took place on Sunday when Duwaji, 28, crossed paths with 27-year-old beauty queen Melanie Shiraz. According to Shiraz, the interaction was short-lived yet charged with tension.
Shiraz took to Instagram to recount the incident, posting a selfie of the two alongside a video where she elaborated on the chance encounter.
“Guess who I ran into at a café in New York—Rama Duwaji, the wife of Zohran Mamdani,” Shiraz said in her post.
“This is the same Rama Duwaji who previously shared highly controversial, anti-Semitic, and anti-Israel sentiments, for which she later issued an apology,” she added.
According to Shiraz, Duwaji was happy to pose for a selfie with her but her behavior changed when she found out that she was Israeli.
Shiraz continued: ‘Despite the setting being calm the moment she found out I was Israeli she refused to have a conversation with me.’
A story emerged in the Jewish Insider highlighting Duwaji’s posts and her activity on the platform in March of this year.
Rama Duwaji, 28, and beauty queen Melanie Shiraz, 27, had a brief encounter on Sunday in the city
According to Shiraz, Duwaji was happy to pose for a selfie with her but her behavior changed when she found out that she was Israeli
According to the outlet she liked an image which celebrated the attack by Hamas on Israel in October of 2023.
The post, made by leftist group The Slow Factory, included images of groups of people after having taken over an IDF vehicle, with ‘Free Palestine’ scrawled over it.
Another image said: ‘Breaking the walls of apartheid and military occupation’, followed by the date.
The image showed a bulldozer used by the group to break through into Israel on that day in which nearly 1,200 people died.
When quizzed over the posts, Mamdani said: ‘My wife is the love of my life, and she is also a private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall.’
Captioning her post, Shiraz added: ‘Was I surprised by the outcome? Not particularly. It is easy to apologize without meaningfully changing one’s behavior.’
‘It is easy to claim opposition to dehumanization in principle, but far more difficult to embody that in practice.
‘She was polite throughout. But the shift in demeanor was evident, and the lack of willingness to engage even more so.’
Duwaji and Mamdani are seen here last November on election day in the city
According to Shiraz, Duwaji was happy to pose for a selfie with her but her behavior changed when she found out that she was Israeli
She added: ‘I approached the interaction with openness to a genuine, respectful conversation. That openness was not reciprocated.
‘And that, perhaps, is the more telling point: how often this disconnect appears, and how normalized it has become.’
Recently, Duwaji apologized for her previous social media posts in an interview with an art news outlet.
She said: ‘When a tabloid recently published old tweets I wrote as a teenager, I felt a lot of shame being confronted with language I used that is so harmful to others; being 15 doesn’t excuse it.
‘I’ve read and seen a lot of what others have had to say in response, and I understand the hurt I caused and am truly sorry.’
The Daily Mail contacted the mayor’s office for comment.
As we age, maintaining balance can become more challenging, especially after hitting 60. However, a trainer suggests five wall exercises that can significantly help in this area.
Yoga is renowned for enhancing mobility, core strength, breathing, and body awareness. Yet, for those over 60, diving into yoga can seem daunting, particularly if balance is already a concern or if movement on the floor is uncomfortable. That’s where wall exercises come in handy, offering a more accessible starting point. The wall acts as a supportive aid while still engaging the legs, hips, ankles, and core.
This support is crucial. When improving balance, the aim is to practice control without the fear of toppling over. Utilizing a wall allows individuals to safely train their weight shifts, enhance single-leg stability, improve posture, and build lower-body strength. Many clients have found this method effective as it provides a secure foundation, enabling them to gradually progress to more challenging balance exercises when they feel ready.
The five wall exercises focus on key areas that are vital after 60: fortifying ankles, stabilizing hips, refining posture, improving weight shifts, and boosting confidence in standing on one leg. While the wall offers necessary support, it’s important to let your body take on the effort.
These five wall exercises focus on the pieces that tend to matter most after 60: stronger ankles, steadier hips, better posture, sharper weight shifts, and more confidence standing on one leg. Use the wall as much as you need, but let your body do the work.
Wall Marches
Wall marches train your hip flexors, glutes, calves, and core while giving you support as you shift weight from one leg to the other. Each knee lift forces your standing leg to stabilize and your midsection to maintain a tall posture. This makes the movement a great balance builder because you’re practicing single-leg control without taking away the safety of the wall. It carries over to walking, climbing stairs, stepping over objects, and feeling steadier on your feet.
Muscles Trained: Hip flexors, glutes, calves, core
How to Do It:
Stand facing a wall with your hands lightly placed against it.
Step your feet hip-width apart.
Brace your core and stand tall.
Lift one knee toward your chest with control.
Lower your foot back to the floor.
Alternate legs in a steady rhythm.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per leg. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Slower marches, paused knee lifts, hands-free marches
Form Tip: Keep your torso tall and avoid leaning into the wall.
Wall Sit
Wall sits train your quads, glutes, and core while your back stays supported. Holding the position builds lower-body strength and teaches your legs to stay active under tension. Stronger legs make balance easier because your body has more support when you stand, walk, or change direction. The wall provides a stable target, making this a simple way to build strength without worrying about losing your balance.
Slide down the wall until your knees bend comfortably.
Brace your core and press your back gently into the wall.
Hold the position while breathing steadily.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 20 to 30 seconds. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Higher wall sit, lower wall sit, wall sit with heel raises
Form Tip: Keep your knees tracking over your toes and your feet flat.
Single-Leg Wall Hold
Single-leg wall holds train your feet, ankles, hips, and core while giving you just enough support to stay confident. Standing on one leg challenges your body to make small adjustments from the ground up. The wall helps you stay safe, but your standing leg still has to control your position. This exercise builds the balance you need to step off curbs, turn, and catch yourself when your weight shifts.
Stand beside a wall with one hand lightly touching it.
Shift your weight onto one foot.
Lift your opposite foot slightly off the floor.
Brace your core and keep your hips level.
Hold the position without leaning into the wall.
Switch sides after the hold.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 rounds of 20 to 30 seconds per leg. Rest for 30 seconds between rounds.
Best Variations: Hands-free hold, eyes-closed hold, knee-lift hold
Form Tip: Use the wall for light balance, not full support.
Wall Hip Abductions
Wall hip abductions train the outer hips, glutes, and core while your standing leg keeps you steady. Lifting one leg out to the side strengthens the muscles that help prevent side-to-side wobble. Those muscles matter for walking, stepping around obstacles, and staying balanced on uneven ground. The wall gives you support, so you can focus on smooth movement rather than rushing to avoid losing your balance.
Stand beside a wall with one hand lightly touching it.
Shift your weight onto the leg closest to the wall.
Brace your core and stand tall.
Lift your outside leg out to the side.
Lower your leg back down with control.
Complete all reps, then switch sides.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Mini-band hip abductions, paused reps, slower tempo reps
Form Tip: Keep your toes facing forward and avoid leaning your torso.
Wall Heel-to-Toe Walk
Wall heel-to-toe walks train balance, coordination, and ankle control while giving you a safety net. Placing one foot directly in front of the other narrows your base, which makes your body work harder to stay centered. The wall lets you practice this pattern with confidence while your feet and hips learn to make small corrections. This movement helps with walking steadier, turning with control, and navigating tight spaces.
Stand beside a wall with one hand lightly touching it.
Place one heel directly in front of the opposite toes.
Shift your weight forward with control.
Step your back foot in front of the other foot.
Continue walking heel-to-toe along the wall.
Turn around and repeat in the opposite direction.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 rounds of 10 to 15 steps each direction. Rest for 30 seconds between rounds.
Best Variations: Slower steps, brief pauses, hands-free steps
Form Tip: Look straight ahead instead of staring at your feet.
How to Build Balance With Wall Support
Shutterstock
Wall work gives you a safe place to practice balance without removing the challenge. The wall should help you feel confident, not do the work for you. Keep your touch light, move slowly, and focus on staying tall through each rep. As your balance improves, reduce the pressure you put on the wall or add longer holds.
Use a light touch: Keep one hand on the wall for confidence, but avoid leaning into it. Your feet, hips, and core need to do the stabilizing.
Slow each movement down: Balance improves when your body has time to make small corrections. Fast reps usually hide weak spots.
Train one-leg positions often: Walking, stairs, and stepping all require single-leg control. The more comfortable you feel on one leg, the steadier daily movement becomes.
Build strength alongside balance: Wall sits, marches, and hip abductions strengthen the muscles that help you stay upright. Balance gets better when your legs have more support underneath you.
Progress gradually: Start with more wall support, then use less as you go. Move from two hands to one hand, from a firm touch to fingertips, then to brief hands-free holds.
Stick with these a few times per week and use the wall as your safety net while your balance improves. You’ll feel steadier at first, then more confident as the day goes on.6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e
FBI Director Kash Patel has openly criticized local authorities over their management of the Nancy Guthrie missing person investigation, expressing frustration that his agency was initially excluded from the case.
Patel shared his concerns on the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast, which aired on Tuesday. He revealed that the Pima County Sheriff’s Department had sidelined the FBI for the crucial first four days following Guthrie’s disappearance, a period he emphasized was critical for gathering evidence.
“The FBI’s approach is straightforward—we offer our assistance and ask what’s needed,” Patel explained to Hannity. “However, for four days, we were not involved in the investigation, despite our readiness to contribute.”
According to Patel, the bureau was ready to act on important evidence promptly but wasn’t given the chance. Instead, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos decided to send DNA evidence to a private lab in Florida, bypassing the FBI’s lab in Quantico.

“I had a fixed-wing aircraft on the ground ready to move it immediately through the night,” he said. “And they said, ‘we’re sending it to Florida,’ and then, I don’t know, 60 days. They have jurisdiction, so it’s their call.”
He said the decision to send evidence to a private lab instead of the FBI’s facility delayed the potential for faster analysis.
“We would have analyzed it within days and maybe gotten better information or more information. Our lab’s just better than any other private lab out there, and we didn’t get a chance to do that,” Patel said. “So I understand everybody’s frustrations on that.”

He added: “The first 48 hours of anyone’s disappearance are the most critical.”
In response, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said that decisions regarding evidence processing were made on-scene based on operational needs.
“The laboratory utilized by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI Laboratory in Quantico have worked in close partnership from the outset and continue to collaborate in the analysis of evidence,” Sheriff Nanos said in a statement following Patel’s podcast interview.
“A member of the FBI Task Force was also notified and present at that scene working alongside our personnel. The FBI was promptly notified by both our department and the Guthrie family,” the statement added. “While the FBI Director was not on scene, coordination with the Bureau began without delay.”

Once FBI agents were granted access, they worked with Google to pull cached data from a doorbell camera system to recover key footage that might have otherwise been lost.
Guthrie went missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home on Feb. 1. Investigators have followed up on dozens of leads, but she remains missing.
TAMPA, Fla. (NewsNation) — As tensions with Iran escalate, airfares are already on the rise, and the recent collapse of Spirit Airlines might further inflate ticket prices due to the loss of a major budget airline.
Although Spirit Airlines was often the butt of jokes and earned a reputation as “America’s most hated airline,” its affordable fares played a crucial role in keeping overall airline prices competitive.
Clint Henderson, managing editor at “The Points Guy,” shared with NewsNation that travelers should brace for an increase in airfare, noting that prices on many routes could spike “almost immediately.”
“Low-cost carriers are vital for maintaining competitive airfare,” Henderson explained. “With fewer airlines in the market, prices are likely to climb.”
Studies on the “Spirit effect” have shown that the presence of ultra-low-cost carriers like Spirit and Frontier pushes other airlines to offer more competitive low fares.
Budget carriers are a key reason major airlines introduced no-frills “basic economy” fares over the past decade, as they tried to compete on price.
Spirit’s collapse comes as airlines raise checked baggage fees and trim schedules amid higher jet fuel costs — and with one less low-cost option, travelers may have a harder time avoiding higher fares.
Airfares were about 15% higher in March from a year earlier, according to the latest Consumer Price Index.
As of April 27, the average domestic round-trip fare cost $365, up roughly $70 from the same day a year earlier, according to data from travel search engine Kayak.
Where could airfares jump the most?
Spirit’s absence will hit consumers hardest in markets where the airline had a major presence, including Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Las Vegas and Detroit, Henderson said.
He pointed to Spirit’s exit from Minneapolis in December as a recent example, noting Delta raised prices almost immediately.
A Business Insider analysis of data from the aviation analytics company Cirium found that airfares rose about 14%, or around $19 on average, across the roughly 90 routes Spirit exited in 2024 and 2025.
By contrast, in cities where Spirit continued to operate, airfares rose about 6% to 7%, or roughly $8 to $10.
But markets aren’t static, and carriers are already moving in to fill the gap left by Spirit. JetBlue, for example, plans to add 11 destinations from Fort Lauderdale, while budget carrier Breeze Airways is adding routes from Atlantic City.
Those moves could help offset some of the impact of Spirit’s exit.
It’s a familiar dynamic as Spirit’s footprint has diminished in recent years. The airline had about 12,000 scheduled flights in April, down from roughly 25,000 two years earlier, according to Cirium data cited by the New York Times.
Spirit’s flights accounted for 1.8% of the domestic air-travel market when it closed, down from a peak of more than 5% in 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported.
A group of demonstrators, dressed in keffiyehs and expressing anti-Israel sentiments, took to the streets near a historic synagogue in Manhattan on Tuesday night, sparking confrontations with law enforcement. The protesters repeatedly chanted slogans such as “Israel should not exist” as tensions ran high.
Approximately 100 protesters, brandishing Palestinian flags and rhythmically beating drums, gathered in close proximity to the Park East Synagogue in Manhattan. Their chants of “Palestine will never die” and “Stop the sale of stolen land” echoed through the streets during an event focused on promoting real estate opportunities in Israel and the West Bank, as shown in dramatic video footage.
The synagogue on East 6th Street was secured by police barricades, but the demonstrators attempted to breach the barriers, leading to confrontations with officers. Video footage reveals police officers repeatedly instructing the crowd to “step back” while pushing them back onto the sidewalk, as counter-protesters held their ground nearby.

In response to the protest, Karen Lichtbraun, a co-sponsor of the Zionist group Herut New York City, expressed her views to The Post, dismissing the pro-Palestinian protesters as “a bunch of brainwashed fools.”
“They’re a bunch of brainwashed fools,” Karen Lichtbraun, co-sponsor of Zionist group Herut New York City, told The Post of the pro-Palestine protesters.
“Israel does not occupy anything. It’s the Jewish homeland. And this is all anti Zionism, which is anti semitism, which is Jew hate.”

The 7 p.m. protest was led by the anti-Israel activist group Pal-Awda NY/NJ, which promoted the rally with slogans such as “No settlers on stolen land” and “Stop the sale of stolen Palestinian land.”
The demonstration quickly spilled into another anti-Israel protest at Hunter College, with about 200 rabble-rousers weaving through the streets carrying signs reading “Labeling people as anti-semites cannot justify occupation and brutality” and “Stop the sale of Palestinian Land.”
Police said no arrests have been made, describing the protest as “orderly” and “peaceful.”
