Authorities suspect that the recent burglary at the home of NASCAR icon Greg Biffle, which occurred mere weeks after his tragic death in a plane crash, might have been orchestrated by someone familiar with him.

The unfortunate incident took place on December 18 when Biffle, his wife Cristina, and their children—Emma, 14, and Ryder, 5—lost their lives as their private aircraft met with disaster on the runway at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina.

Following this heartbreaking event, intruders broke into Biffle’s Mooresville residence between the night of January 7 and January 8. They forced open his bedroom door, making off with $30,000 in cash, two firearms, NASCAR memorabilia, and a backpack.

Investigators believe the break-in occurred around 11 p.m., with security footage capturing an individual in a hooded outfit near the property. As reported by Carolina news station WBTV, the person on tape seemed to move with an understanding of the home’s layout and surveillance placements, hinting at a prior acquaintance with the premises.

Further compounding the suspicion, new search warrants reveal that the family’s bank accounts were accessed improperly just hours post-crash. Additionally, a disturbing email was sent to Biffle’s account, tauntingly stating: “I heard you’re dead, rest in hell.”

Detectives believe both the burglary and the alleged fraud, which resulted in ‘hundreds of thousands of dollars’ being stolen from Biffle’s family, were potentially coordinated and reliant on insider knowledge of their accounts and routines.

Several people in Greg and Cristina’s ‘inner circle’ were reportedly named in affidavits in new search warrants, according to WBTV. However, the outlet has not disclosed the names of those people as they are yet to be arrested or charged in the case.

Straight after the couple and their children were tragically killed in the plane crash, detectives allege that suspicious activity began on their email and banking accounts; including changes to emails, phone numbers and passwords. Fraudulent activity involving Cristina’s Venmo account was also detected.

It is believed bank account information was changed by phone, while at least one fraudulent check was cashed from an account tied to Biffle’s business interests.

The search warrant also claims that other attempts to compromise the bank account were made at multiple branches across state lines.

According to Charlotte news station WSOC TV, the unusual activity started almost immediately after the plane crash, with the disgusting email telling Biffle to ‘rest in hell’ sent just after 2am the following day.

The bank account information was then changed later that day, before the fraudulent check was cashed on December 30 – almost two weeks later.

Then, on the night of January 7, the break-in at Biffle’s family home occurred.

Investigators believe the burglary may have been intended to cover up a larger plan to steal additional assets from the deceased family.

Surveillance footage showed a woman walking through the house, with documents stating that she appeared to know where security cameras were placed as well as the locations of Biffle’s closet and safe room.

And on January 16, during a celebration of life for the Biffle family, detectives claim to have identified a woman who matched the suspect seen on camera. She was a friend of the family, according to documents.

A license plate reader is also said to have captured a vehicle associated with her near the Biffles’ home shortly before the burglary. The woman reportedly scrapped plans to attend a gathering with friends and traveled to Pennsylvania after police publicly released the surveillance footage.

On April 23, a search warrant was executed at a home in Lincoln County and a business in Mooresville in connection with the break-in. No arrests have been made at the time of writing, while authorities have not released the name of a person of interest.

When asked by WBTV if the person of the interest is also being investigated for the alleged bank fraud, detectives said there are ‘multiple suspects over multiple states.’

‘We can’t say they’re not connected, but we’re still investigating,’ Iredell County detectives told WBTV.

No items stolen from the Biffle residence were found during the search warrant execution. Yet several electronic devices were seized from the home in Lincoln County. No items were seized at the business in Mooresville.

Biffle, 55, won more than 50 races across NASCAR´s three circuits, including 19 at the Cup Series level. He also won the Trucks Series championship in 2000 and the Xfinity Series title in 2002.

In 2024, he was honored for his humanitarian efforts after Hurricane Helene struck the US, even using his personal helicopter to deliver aid to flooded, remote western North Carolina.

Hundreds of people in the NASCAR community gathered at an arena in Charlotte earlier this year to honor Biffle at a public memorial service.

His jet had departed Statesville Regional Airport, about 45 miles north of Charlotte, about 10 minutes before it crashed.

The plane’s speed and altitude fluctuated significantly during the brief flight. At one point, the plane quickly soared from 1,800 feet (550 meters) up to 4,000 feet (1,220 meters) before descending again.

Just before the crash, it was only a couple of hundred feet off the ground. Experts said its path was consistent with a flight crew that experienced an issue and needed to return quickly.

Jonathan Donahue, the former neighbor of pilot Dennis Dutton, previously alleged that the plane made a strange noise in the moments after takeoff. 

He told The US Sun: ‘Dennis had been flying for 40 years. I imagine it was a mechanical error because he was a great leader and such a positive person. I couldn’t imagine anything being his fault.

‘All I know is that there was a large, loud pop, like something broke on the plane at takeoff, and he immediately had to turn around and make an emergency landing.’ 

A newly elected mayor in a Virginia town found himself in legal trouble on Tuesday after allegedly arriving at a train derailment site under the influence, as reported by local media outlets.

Paul Morrison, 57, who serves as the mayor of Rich Creek, was arrested and charged with public intoxication. The arrest was confirmed by WSLS, which referenced information from jail records.

The derailment took place in the afternoon near the town of Rich Creek, located on the Virginia-West Virginia border, according to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP).

The WVDEP further noted that some aspects of the derailment were reported on the West Virginia side. The train involved was operated by Norfolk Southern Railway.

Contaminants of soybean oil had reportedly leaked. Officials confirmed it was considered non-hazardous and that crews are conducting recovery operations. 

After the incident, Morrison reportedly showed up intoxicated and was subsequently arrested by deputies with the Giles County Sheriff’s Office, WSLS said, citing sources.

Details of what led to the incident and Morrison’s arrest are not immediately clear.

He was taken to the New River Valley Regional Jail and later released on his own recognizance, according to jail records, the outlet added. 

Morrison is the mayor of a small, historic town with a population of roughly 750 people.

He reportedly became mayor in November after a write-in campaign. Out of 106 votes cast, 77 residents manually wrote in Morrison’s name, according to local outlet Cardinal News.

His victory follows a recent leadership shakeup in the small community, where five of six Rich Creek Town Council members, as well as the previous mayor appointed in early 2025, abruptly resigned, the outlet reported.

Former Mayor Anne Chambers said her resignation came after internal conflicts and a hostile work environment reached a breaking point, according to Cardinal News.

LOS ANGELES — Renowned composer John Williams, a towering figure in the world of film music, was celebrated on Wednesday with the dedication of a new performing arts center bearing his name at North Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, where he once studied.

With over 50 Academy Award nominations and five Oscar victories to his name, Williams returned to his old school to inaugurate the John Williams Performing Arts Center. During the ribbon-cutting event, he invited students to embrace and personalize the new facility.

“I’m overwhelmed and full of joy because this place, the couple of years I spent here like you are doing have been, for me, formative in my thinking, in my professional work and so on,” Williams expressed. “This is a great, magical place.”

The celebration featured performances by North Hollywood High’s marching band, which entertained the crowd with music from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” alongside the school’s symphony orchestra, which captivated attendees with pieces from “Star Wars.” Williams watched with admiration as the students brought his legendary compositions to life.

This addition to the school is part of a substantial $320 million modernization initiative at North Hollywood High School.

School and district leaders said the project blends historic architecture with modern design to better serve students.

“All of these other buildings, some have been modernized and some have been redone,” said Suzanne Luke. “It’s old meets new in a fresh, positive way.”

“This is a space that’s flexible enough that it can meet the needs of creativity that we haven’t even thought of yet,” said Andres Chait, the acting superintendent of LAUSD.

Jerry Yang added that the campus upgrades expand opportunities well beyond the arts.

“There are so many new facilities that students can use and really, at its core, what it’s doing is it’s providing students with more opportunities to learn, explore and grow as people on this campus,” he said.

Williams, whose work includes unforgettable scores for “Jurassic Park,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Star Wars” and “Jaws,” once walked the same halls as the students now performing in his honor.

Student Souchel Camacho said seeing Williams on campus was inspiring.

“I think being able to see someone who has such an impact on the arts, I think that’s so special,” she said. “And it will definitely be a good chance for students to see themselves within him and know and understand that they have that power to be who they want to be.”

The untimely passing of actor Patrick Muldoon at the age of 57 has been officially attributed to a heart attack, compounded by several underlying health issues.

According to a report by US Weekly, which examined the death certificate from the County of Los Angeles’ Department of Public Health, Muldoon’s demise was caused by a myocardial infarction. This information was made public on Wednesday.

In addition to the heart attack, medical records revealed that Muldoon suffered from a hereditary coagulopathy disorder. This condition, characterized by blood clotting problems, was further complicated by a pulmonary embolism, a dangerous clot that can obstruct crucial arteries or affect the lungs.

Muldoon, who gained fame for his roles in popular television series such as “Days of Our Lives” and “Melrose Place,” was laid to rest through cremation on Tuesday, according to officials.

The death certificate also noted Muldoon’s professional identity as an actor and producer, acknowledging his contributions to the entertainment industry.

Muldoon’s sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, told TMZ that Muldoon went to take a shower and was found unconscious on the bathroom floor when his girlfriend checked on him.

Paramedics tried to revive the star at home, but were unable to, officials said. 

Muldoon, who was born in San Pedro, California, started his acting career while still in college at the University of Southern California with a two-episode arc on the sitcom Who’s the Boss? with Tony Danza. 

Shortly after graduating in 1991 he landed a three-episode recurring role on popular teen comedy Saved By The Bell. 

His breakthrough role came when he landed the part of boxer Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives.

He appeared on the soap from 1992 to 1995 and later returning from 2011 to 2012.

He is also known for playing villain Richard Hart in Melrose Place from seasons three to five.

Muldoon’s work on the big screen, for his role as Zander Barcalow in the 1997 sci-fi movie Starship Troopers, alongside his ex-girlfriend Denise Richards.

Muldoon reunited with Richards to film his latest acting role in a crime thriller titled Dirty Hands, which will be released this year. 

They had remained close friends after dating on-and-off for five years during the 1990s. 

He appeared on an episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, when Richards was a cast member.

Muldoon had also been seen on her reality show Denise Richards & Her Wild Things, as they filmed a music video together.

Muldoon also dated Lisa Rinna, Tori Spelling and Juliette Binoche. 

He had followed his passion for music and was the lead singer and guitarist for the rock band, The Sleeping Masses. 

The star also worked as a producer, earning an executive producer credit in many films.

They included The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, Marlowe, The Dreadful and most recently Kockroach, which is currently filming and stars Chris Hemsworth and Taron Egerton.

Fans flooded the post with tributes, with one writing: ‘Grew up watching you in starship troopers. RIP legend.’

Muldoon made a final public appearance at the 2026 Saturn Awards in March, posing for photos alongside Richards.

Last year the actor teased a possible return to Days of Our Lives, appearing in a video shared on Peacock’s official Instagram page. 

In the brief clip, he could be seen wandering around the set of the daytime show before telling the cameras: ‘Oh my God I’m in Salem! It’s good to be back.’ 

The actor’s co-stars led tributes on Monday: Alison Sweeney who starred alongside Muldoon on Days Of Our Lives wrote on X, ‘This is such heartbreaking news. Pat was a rare kind of person – brilliantly talented, endlessly kind and generous in spirit.’

‘I was so lucky to have worked with him when I first started at Days, he made me feel at ease right away. He brought his unique charm and humor to work every day. A truly gifted guy, and one who will be profoundly missed.’ 

His Starship Troopers co-star Dina Meyer wrote: ‘I can’t believe he’s gone. Pat was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known and was like a brother to me. He was such a light… always making us laugh. My sincere condolences to his family, and everyone who loved him. He will be missed.’

Muldoon is survived by his partner Miriam Rothbart, and his parents Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr, as well as his sister Shana and brother-in-law Ahmet Zappa, and their children Halo and Arrow Zappa. 

A Romanian citizen who confessed to taking part in a string of swatting incidents and bomb threats aimed at U.S. government figures, including Congress members, top Cabinet officials, federal judges, and leaders of federal law enforcement agencies, was handed a four-year prison term on Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors had recommended a five-year sentence for Thomasz Szabo, 27, who last June admitted to charges of conspiracy and making threats.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson oversaw the proceedings in Washington, D.C. Szabo, known online by the pseudonyms “Plank,” “Jonah,” and “Cypher,” confessed on June 2, 2025, to charges including conspiracy and making threats involving explosives, as stated by the Justice Department.

“This administration stands firm against any attacks on the institutions and individuals dedicated to serving our nation,” declared Jeanine Pirro, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. “Szabo was brought from Romania to face justice in a U.S. court, and today he faces the repercussions of his deeds.”

Swatting — the act of making hoax threats to provoke a tactical law enforcement response at a target’s home — has become a prolific form of harassment in recent years and poses an increasing public safety hazard.

“Swatting is not just a nuisance — it’s extremely dangerous,” said U.S. Capitol Police Chief Michael Sullivan. “I am proud of our investigators, as well as thankful for our prosecutors and law enforcement partners for their steadfast efforts to ensure justice is served. This shows that we will cross the globe to track threats down.” 

Court documents state that beginning in 2018, Szabo organized online chat servers in Romania centered around “trolling.”

By 2020, prosecutors say he began his swatting campaign. Also charged in the scheme is Nemanja Radovanovic of Serbia.

In December 2023, Szabo instructed his associates to choose targets from both the Democratic and Republican parties.

Radovanovic and an associate, Alan Filion, allegedly targeted at least 25 members of Congress or their relatives, along with dozens of other state and federal officials.

“Over and over, police departments and other first responders were hijacked by the defendant and deployed to fictitious emergencies,” prosecutors wrote. “As a result, fewer personnel and resources were available to respond to real emergencies.”

The pair reportedly bragged to Szabo about their exploits, stating, “I did 25+ swatting [calls] today,” and claimed they created “massive havoc in America” with “$500,000+ in taxpayer [dollars] wasted in just two days.”

Szabo was extradited from Romania in November 2024. 

Filion, who was 18 at the time of his sentencing in February 2025, also received four years in prison after pleading guilty to making approximately 375 swatting calls between August 2022 and January 2024.

Radovanovic’s case is still pending, according to officials.

On Wednesday, Alina Habba, a former advisor to Donald Trump, found herself at odds with the hosts of “The View” during a heated discussion about the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey. Sunny Hostin, one of the co-hosts, characterized the prosecution as “vindictive” and questioned its motives.

Hostin directly asked Habba, “Do you believe Comey’s actions constitute a criminal threat against the president, justifying an indictment?”

Habba affirmed her stance, saying, “I do. Considering Comey’s post and the events leading up to Saturday, individuals like us who have significant platforms must act responsibly. He is a former FBI director and understood the implications of ‘8647’ without any doubt.”

This marks the second indictment for Comey, who was previously charged with perjury and obstruction last year—charges that were subsequently dismissed by a federal judge. The Justice Department’s renewed action indicates an intensifying investigation into Comey’s activities post his tenure at the FBI. Central to this probe is a controversial Instagram post from May 2025, where Comey shared an image of shells arranged as “86 47” on a beach, sparking widespread online debate.

The cryptic sequence “86 47” was perceived by some as a veiled reference to President Donald Trump, the 47th president, though Comey had earlier dismissed it as merely an interesting shell formation. As the case unfolds, details about the charges and the extent of the indictment remain scarce.

As Hostin and co-host Joy Behar argued that “86” didn’t mean kill, Habba pointed out that Comey should have known what it meant as former head of the FBI.

“Let me just tell you what happened after James Comey’s post,” Habba said. “A gentleman posted that about me. He posted on Twitter [sic], ’86 Habba,’ and he was also charged. He was charged in Florida, and he was held accountable because you cannot do it.”

“Now, this is an FBI director,” she continued. “We have responsibilities. You guys have responsibilities not to call the president certain things or say things that could incite violence. I most certainly think after Saturday, I have a completely new perspective on how important our voices are and how we use them.”

Hostin and Behar raised rhetoric by Trump about Democrats, which Habba said she has not seen but that no one should be inciting violence.

“Here’s directly how I feel about this: nobody should be inciting violence. Period. That’s my perspective,” Habba responded. “But you have to remember something. The Department of Justice brings real cases. We are not Jack Smith, we are not Letitia James. We bring real cases against people.”

Hostin said she believed it was a “vindictive prosecution against Comey” directed by Trump and asked Habba, “As Trump’s personal attorney, you actually were sanctioned nearly a million dollars for filing a frivolous civil lawsuit against Comey, against Hillary Clinton and others that a federal judge called ‘political grievances masquerading as legal claims.’ So why should anyone believe this pattern of targeting Trump’s enemies is about justice and not revenge?”

“If you think that the Russia collusion hoax, if you think that the things that we’ve now seen evidence of in this Department of Justice aren’t real, I’d just tell you to sit tight because things are coming,” Habba said. “Because what they did was weaponize. I don’t want to hear about weaponization because the reason you all know who I am is because of weaponization.”

“I sat through targeting, people saying, ‘We’re going to get Trump,’ and then a Hillary Clinton-appointed judge sanctioned me for suing Hillary Clinton,” she continued. “By the way, I’m proud of that. I’m proud of what I did because it was the right thing to do.”

Habba served as a top prosecutor in New Jersey, and as an advisor to former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi after an appellate court found in December that Bondi improperly appointed her as U.S. attorney.
