Discover How Olivia Munn Found Strength in Princess Catherine’s Inspiring Words During Her Cancer Battle

0

Olivia Munn has found solace in the support of Catherine, Princess of Wales, as she navigates her battle with cancer.

The 45-year-old actress, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, shared how the Princess of Wales, 44, resonated with her experiences. The Princess had her own health scare, being diagnosed with an undisclosed illness in 2024, before announcing her remission the following year. Her insights on post-treatment life struck a deep chord with Munn.

In an interview with People, Munn, who is currently in recovery, expressed her gratitude for the Princess’s candidness. “Kate Middleton recently spoke on this topic, and her words really touched me,” Munn revealed. “She articulated something I had struggled to express, giving me a newfound peace.”

Munn continued, paraphrasing the Princess’s wisdom: “She said, ‘You might think the major challenges are what you need to brace for, but it’s actually the aftermath of treatment that’s truly demanding and difficult.’ Hearing that someone else felt the same way was incredibly validating.”

“She was like, ‘You think that the big things are the things you have to worry about’ – I’m paraphrasing her – ‘But it’s the treatment after you’ve gone through the big things that’s really taxing and hard on you.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, somebody else if feeling that.’”

The Your Friends and Neighbors star added: “That’s where it feels really good… when you hear other people’s experiences, because it is true – you feel so much better when you know you’re not alone.”

Olivia’s comments refer to Catherine discussing the challenge of finding a “new normal” after cancer treatment on a visit to Colchester Hospital last July.

The princess said: “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal’, but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.

“You have to find your new normal, and that takes time – and it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you except it to be. But the reality is you go through hard times.”

Munn underwent multiple surgeries after being diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of breast cancer and admits taking lots of medication in the aftermath has been challenging.

The Newsroom actress said: “I’ve been open about this, that with breast cancer, there’s so much medication afterwards for certain people.

“And for someone like me – and the type of breast cancer I had, and how aggressive it was, and for the age I am, and not having been premenopausal when I was diagnosed – there’s so many more medications I have to take. And there are a lot of side effects and they have been really hard on me.”

Olivia continued: “I guess I was hard on myself because I would ask other friends who were on the same treatment plan as me if they’d had any of my symptoms, and none of them did. Not one person said that they had exhaustion or mood swings or body aches. I thought, ‘I’m the only one getting this.’”

Conquer Urinary Incontinence Quickly: Top At-Home Remedies for Immediate Relief

0

If you’ve ever laughed a bit too hard and felt an unwelcome dampness, or dashed to the bathroom only to fall short, you’re familiar with how disruptive bladder leaks can be. According to the American Urological Association, urinary incontinence affects between 25% and 45% of women in the United States. Yet, many endure it quietly, believing it’s an inevitable part of aging. But this doesn’t have to be the case.

There are genuine and effective solutions, ranging from quick muscle tricks to long-term lifestyle changes supported by clinical studies, that can help you regain control and confidence. This guide explores these solutions, delving into the root causes of the issue, the powerful “Knack” technique, the correct way to perform Kegel exercises, dietary changes that can make a noticeable impact, and when it’s crucial to consult a specialist.

How To Stop Urinary Incontinence Fast With Easy At-Home Treatments

What Causes Urinary Incontinence? A Doctor Explains the Root of the Problem

Before seeking a remedy, it’s important to understand what’s occurring inside your body. The bladder, a muscular sac, holds urine until the brain signals that it’s time to release it. Leakage occurs when this communication system falters or when the muscles around the bladder weaken or become overly active.

“Urinary incontinence happens when the systems that keep the bladder shut are either overwhelmed or fail to function efficiently,” explains Samantha Pulliam, MD, FACOG, a urogynecologist and chief medical officer at Axena Health. “This may result from weakened pelvic floor muscles, nerve damage, hormonal shifts, or a mix of various factors.”

The Four Main Types You Should Know

Not all bladder leaks are identical, and identifying the type is crucial in determining the most effective treatment strategy.

  • Stress incontinence occurs when physical pressure, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, or jumping, pushes urine past a weakened urethral sphincter. This is the most common type, particularly in women who have given birth or gone through menopause.
  • Urge incontinence involves a sudden, intense need to urinate that is difficult to suppress, often caused by an overactive bladder muscle (the detrusor). Many people with this type leak before they can reach a toilet.
  • Mixed incontinence is exactly what it sounds like: a combination of both stress and urge incontinence, which affects a significant number of women.
  • Overflow incontinence happens when the bladder never fully empties, leading to constant dribbling. This is more common in men with prostate issues but can affect women too.

Why Women Are Disproportionately Affected

Pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause create a perfect storm for pelvic floor dysfunction. During vaginal delivery, the muscles, nerves, and connective tissue supporting the bladder can stretch or tear. Estrogen, which helps maintain urethral tissue thickness and tone, declines significantly during menopause, making the urethra less able to stay tightly closed. Add years of high-impact activity or chronic constipation to the picture, and the pelvic floor gradually loses its ability to hold everything in place.

Dr. Pulliam also points out that anatomical structure plays a role: women have a shorter urethra than men, which means there is simply less length between the bladder and the outside world. That shorter pathway makes continence more dependent on the strength of the surrounding muscles.

‘The Knack’: The Instant Fix for Urinary Incontinence That Works Right Now

Most solutions for urinary incontinence take weeks to show results. The Knack is the exception. It is a technique that works immediately, on the very first attempt, and requires nothing more than knowing how to contract one specific muscle group at the right moment.

How the Knack Works

The concept is straightforward: you voluntarily contract your pelvic floor muscles just before and during any activity that increases abdominal pressure. Sneezing, coughing, picking up a heavy object, laughing, or jumping are all triggers. By preemptively squeezing the muscles that surround the urethra, you counteract the sudden rise in intra-abdominal pressure before it forces urine out.

Research published in the Journal of Urology found that women who consistently used voluntary pelvic floor muscle contraction before coughing reduced stress incontinence episodes by up to 98.2 percent, compared to a 73.3 percent reduction in the control group. The researchers called it a highly effective behavioral strategy with immediate impact.

The ‘Squeeze Before You Sneeze’ Trick, Step by Step

The Knack has earned a simpler, more memorable name in popular health circles: the “squeeze before you sneeze” trick. Here is how to use it correctly.

  1. Anticipate the trigger. The moment you feel a cough, sneeze, or laugh coming on, or when you are about to lift something heavy, that is your cue.
  2. Contract your pelvic floor muscles upward and inward. Think of it as stopping the flow of urine mid-stream. Squeeze those muscles firmly, not your buttocks or thighs.
  3. Hold the contraction through the duration of the pressure event. Keep squeezing while you cough or sneeze, not after.
  4. Release and relax. Let the muscles fully release once the pressure passes.

With practice, this becomes automatic, almost like a reflex. Many women report that within a week of conscious practice, the squeeze happens instinctively before they even consciously think about it.

Why Timing Matters More Than Force

One of the most common mistakes is squeezing too late, after the cough or sneeze has already begun. By then, the pressure wave has already reached the urethra. The key is proactive engagement, not reactive. You are essentially getting ahead of the pressure, not chasing it.

Kegels Strengthen Your Pelvic Floor to Stop Bladder Leaks for Good

While the Knack offers an immediate fix in the moment, Kegel exercises deliver lasting structural improvement. They strengthen the very muscles responsible for urethral closure, bladder support, and pelvic organ positioning. Done correctly and consistently, they can dramatically reduce or even eliminate urinary incontinence over time.

Finding the Right Muscles: The Step Most People Skip

The biggest barrier to effective Kegel exercises is not commitment. It is anatomy. Studies suggest that up to 30 percent of women perform Kegels incorrectly on their first attempt, often bearing down instead of lifting up, which can actually worsen symptoms.

To identify the correct muscles, try stopping your urine mid-stream the next time you use the bathroom. The muscles you use to do that are your pelvic floor muscles. Do not make a habit of stopping urine flow regularly, as this can interfere with normal bladder function, but use it once as a targeting exercise. Another approach is to imagine you are trying to prevent yourself from passing gas. The subtle internal lift and squeeze that results targets the right muscle group.

The Correct Kegel Technique

Once you have identified the muscles, follow this protocol:

  • Contract the pelvic floor muscles firmly, lifting them upward and inward.
  • Hold the contraction for 3 to 5 seconds at first, working up to 10 seconds over several weeks.
  • Release completely and allow the muscles to fully relax for an equal amount of time.
  • Repeat 10 to 15 times per set, aiming for three sets per day.

Consistency is the determining factor. A systematic review in the British Journal of General Practice confirmed that pelvic floor muscle training, performed regularly over 12 weeks, significantly reduced the frequency and volume of urinary leakage in women with stress, urge, and mixed incontinence.

Fast-Twitch vs. Slow-Twitch Contractions: Training Both Matters

The pelvic floor contains two types of muscle fibers, and targeting both makes your training more complete.

  • Slow-twitch fibers support endurance and posture. These are trained with long, sustained holds of 8 to 10 seconds. They are responsible for the background tone that keeps the urethra closed during everyday activities.
  • Fast-twitch fibers generate rapid, forceful contractions. These respond to sudden pressure events like coughing and sneezing. Train them with quick, sharp contractions followed by immediate full release, repeating 10 to 15 times in rapid succession.

Most standard Kegel routines only train the slow-twitch fibers. Incorporating fast-twitch work, especially before anticipated high-pressure activities, significantly improves the Knack technique over time.

When to Expect Results

Most women notice meaningful improvement within 6 to 12 weeks of consistent daily practice. For those with moderate to severe stress incontinence, the timeline may extend to 16 weeks. The key word in both cases is consistent. Doing Kegels three times a week will not produce the same results as doing them daily.

Dietary Tweaks for Treating Urinary Incontinence: What You Eat Affects Your Bladder

The connection between diet and bladder health is more direct than most people realize. Certain foods and beverages actively irritate the bladder lining or increase urine production, amplifying leakage symptoms. Removing or reducing them, while adding bladder-supportive nutrients, can produce noticeable results within days.

The Bladder Irritants Worth Cutting Back

The following are among the most well-documented dietary triggers for bladder urgency and increased leak frequency:

  • Caffeine acts as both a diuretic, increasing urine volume, and a direct bladder irritant that stimulates urgency. Coffee, tea, energy drinks, and even dark chocolate fall into this category. Reducing intake by even 25 percent can reduce urge episodes significantly.
  • Alcohol relaxes the urethral sphincter, impairs the brain’s ability to recognize bladder fullness, and increases urine output. Even moderate consumption has been linked to worsened symptoms.
  • Carbonated drinks, including sparkling water, can irritate the bladder wall. The carbonation itself appears to be a contributing factor, independent of caffeine content.
  • Artificial sweeteners, particularly aspartame and saccharin, have been reported by many patients to trigger urgency, though individual sensitivity varies.
  • Acidic foods and drinks, such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, vinegar-based sauces, and spicy food, are common culprits for bladder urgency and burning.

An elimination approach works well here. Remove the most likely irritants for two weeks, then reintroduce them one at a time to identify personal triggers.

The Role of Hydration: Less Is Not More

It might seem logical to drink less water if you are dealing with bladder leaks. In fact, the opposite is often true. Concentrated, dark urine is more irritating to the bladder lining than diluted urine, and chronic under-hydration increases urgency by keeping a smaller volume of highly concentrated urine in the bladder at all times.

Aim for pale yellow urine as your hydration benchmark. The National Association for Continence recommends consuming approximately 6 to 8 cups of fluid daily for most adults with incontinence, spread evenly throughout the day rather than drinking large amounts at once. Reducing fluids in the two to three hours before bed can also help manage nocturia, the nighttime trips to the bathroom that disrupt sleep.

Magnesium and Bladder Calm

Some research suggests that magnesium supplementation may help reduce bladder muscle overactivity associated with urge incontinence. One clinical study found that magnesium hydroxide reduced nocturia and urge incontinence episodes in women compared to placebo. Foods high in magnesium include leafy green vegetables, legumes, seeds, and whole grains, making a dietary approach both accessible and broadly beneficial.

Fiber for Pelvic Floor Health

Chronic constipation is a less-discussed contributor to urinary incontinence. Straining during bowel movements increases intra-abdominal pressure repeatedly over time, gradually weakening the pelvic floor. A high-fiber diet that promotes regular, easy bowel movements reduces this ongoing stress on the supporting muscles. The recommended daily fiber intake is 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men, yet most adults consume fewer than 16 grams per day.

More Easy Lifestyle Fixes That Actually Help

Beyond exercises and diet, several practical behavioral and lifestyle strategies have strong evidence behind them for reducing bladder leaks.

Bladder Training: Teaching Your Bladder Who Is in Charge

Bladder training is a structured behavioral approach designed to gradually extend the intervals between bathroom trips, reducing urgency and increasing capacity over time. It works particularly well for urge incontinence and overactive bladder.

The process starts with tracking your current bathroom habits in a bladder diary for a few days. Once you establish your baseline frequency, you begin deliberately waiting slightly longer than usual before urinating, even when you feel the urge. You add a few minutes to your interval each week, progressively training the bladder to hold more without triggering an emergency signal. Most programs aim to reach a comfortable voiding interval of three to four hours over a period of six to twelve weeks.

When an urge hits during the waiting period, urge suppression techniques help: cross your legs, sit down quietly, perform a few rapid pelvic floor contractions (which sends a neurological signal that suppresses urgency), or distract your attention for a minute. The urge will often pass without requiring an immediate bathroom trip.

Weight Management: A Measurable Impact

Excess body weight places constant downward pressure on the bladder and pelvic floor. Research consistently shows that a weight loss of just 5 to 10 percent of body weight can reduce stress urinary incontinence episodes by 50 to 60 percent. A landmark study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that overweight and obese women who lost a modest amount of weight through a structured program experienced significantly fewer weekly incontinence episodes than those in the control group.

Quit Smoking for More Than the Obvious Reasons

Smoking causes chronic coughing, and chronic coughing is one of the most repetitive stress loads placed on the pelvic floor. Every cough forces pressure downward through the abdomen, gradually fatiguing and weakening the muscles that keep the bladder closed. Additionally, nicotine is a bladder stimulant that can increase urgency. Quitting smoking reduces coughing-related pelvic stress and removes a direct chemical irritant from the bladder equation.

Clothing and Toilet Habits That Work Against You

Some habits unknowingly perpetuate incontinence. These include:

  • Going “just in case”: Frequently emptying the bladder before it is truly full trains it to signal urgency at lower volumes. Over time, bladder capacity shrinks. Unless you have a specific reason, wait until you genuinely need to go.
  • Hovering over public toilet seats: This position prevents full pelvic floor relaxation, which means the bladder never fully empties. Sitting fully, or using a toilet seat cover if hygiene is a concern, allows complete voiding.
  • Tight waistbands and compression garments: Anything that applies sustained pressure to the abdomen can provoke urgency. Loose-fitting clothing around the midsection gives the bladder more space to expand without pressure.

When to See a Doctor for Urinary Incontinence Treatment

Self-management strategies are effective for many people, but there are situations where professional evaluation is not only helpful, it is necessary.

Signs That Professional Care Is the Right Next Step

Schedule an appointment with a doctor, ideally a urogynecologist or pelvic floor specialist, if any of the following apply:

  • Bladder leaks are occurring daily or are significantly affecting your quality of life, social activities, or sleep
  • You have tried pelvic floor exercises and dietary changes for at least 12 weeks without meaningful improvement
  • You are experiencing pelvic pain, painful urination, or blood in the urine alongside leakage
  • You have a sudden or rapid onset of incontinence without an obvious cause
  • You feel a sensation of pelvic heaviness, pressure, or bulging, which may indicate pelvic organ prolapse
  • Leakage is associated with incomplete bladder emptying or a weak urine stream

These symptoms may indicate underlying conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse, urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis, or neurological issues that require targeted treatment beyond behavioral strategies.

What Medical Treatment Looks Like

A urogynecologist like Dr. Pulliam will typically begin with a thorough history and physical exam, possibly including a bladder diary review, urinalysis, and urodynamic testing to understand how the bladder fills and empties under pressure. From there, treatment may include:

  • Pelvic floor physical therapy: A trained pelvic floor therapist provides hands-on assessment and a customized exercise program, using biofeedback to ensure muscles are activating correctly. This is significantly more effective than self-directed Kegels for many patients.
  • Medications: For urge incontinence, anticholinergic medications such as oxybutynin, or the newer beta-3 agonist mirabegron, help calm an overactive bladder muscle. These are not cures but can significantly reduce urgency and frequency.
  • Pessaries: A vaginal pessary is a removable silicone device inserted by a clinician to provide structural support to the urethra and bladder neck. It is a non-surgical option that works well for women with stress incontinence related to pelvic floor laxity.
  • Nerve stimulation: Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation and sacral neuromodulation are minimally invasive procedures that retrain the nerves controlling bladder function, often achieving excellent results for overactive bladder and urge incontinence.
  • Surgical options: Midurethral sling procedures are the most common surgical treatment for stress urinary incontinence. They involve placing a small strip of mesh under the urethra to provide support during physical activity. Success rates are high, with most studies reporting 80 to 90 percent improvement or cure at long-term follow-up.

The bottom line is that incontinence is a medical condition with a broad range of effective treatments, not a personal failing or an inevitable part of getting older. The right combination of self-care strategies and professional support can restore confidence, comfort, and control for the vast majority of people who experience it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can urinary incontinence be permanently cured? Many people achieve complete resolution of symptoms through a combination of pelvic floor training, behavioral strategies, and in some cases medical or surgical intervention. The outcome depends on the type and severity of incontinence, overall health, and how consistently treatment is followed.

How long does it take for Kegel exercises to work for incontinence? Most women notice a meaningful reduction in leakage within 6 to 12 weeks of daily Kegel practice. Significant or complete improvement may take up to 16 weeks. Consistency and correct technique are the most important factors.

Is urinary incontinence a normal part of aging? While the risk increases with age due to hormonal changes and muscle atrophy, incontinence is not an inevitable or untreatable part of aging. It responds well to treatment at every age.

What is the fastest fix for bladder leaks? The Knack technique, squeezing the pelvic floor muscles just before a cough, sneeze, or other pressure event, provides immediate relief and can reduce leakage episodes dramatically on the very first attempt.

When should I see a doctor about bladder leaks? See a doctor if leaks are occurring daily, disrupting your daily life or sleep, accompanied by pain or blood in the urine, or have not improved after 12 weeks of self-management strategies.

Rising Tensions: Outcry Grows Over Alleged Teen Execution Amid Illegal Immigration Concerns

0

The tragic death of a 15-year-old Missouri teenager, who pleaded for his life during a senseless ambush, has sparked widespread anger. Republican leaders are highlighting the suspect’s status as an undocumented immigrant to push for stricter border control measures.

Senator Eric Schmitt, a Republican from Missouri, expressed his outrage, emphasizing that this incident is yet another case of a Missourian losing their life at the hands of an undocumented immigrant. He is advocating for more extensive deportation actions.

Missouri Representative Eric Burlison echoed concerns about public safety, stating that dangerous individuals who should not be in the country continue to reside within communities. He expressed his grief over the loss, saying, “Miles Young should still be alive. This is tragic.” He called for quick justice in a post on social media platform X.

The suspect, 18-year-old Yefry Archaga-Elvir, is facing charges in connection with the teenager’s ambush death. He is currently in custody under an ICE detainer, according to the Greene County Jail.

The backlash follows the arrest of Yefry Archaga-Elvir, 18, who is accused of luring Miles Young, 15, into a planned ambush before chasing him down and shooting him, according to court documents. The Honduran national is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action and is being held without bond on a federal immigration detainer.

A second suspect, Praize King, 18, is also charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the killing. At least one additional suspect, believed to be a juvenile, has not been publicly identified.

Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek called the killing “another Missouri family destroyed,” saying the teen was “executed while begging for his life” and warning the case shows “exactly why we must cut off the incentives that keep illegals here.”

He added that Missourians are “outraged” the suspect was in the state, arguing the crime “never would’ve happened” if he had not been in the country.

Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo., said, “A Missouri teen begged for his life. He was killed by an ILLEGAL alien,” adding, “Our children should NEVER fear murder on our streets.”

Schmitt also questioned the broader response, asking, “Where are the protests for Miles Young? Where is the outrage when American sons and daughters are murdered by illegal aliens who have no business in our country?”

He added that “the Democrats ushered in an invasion and will never apologize for the destruction and the ruined and lost lives left in the wake.”

The Republican Party of New Mexico said the tragedy “transcends politics” and that “the lives of this boy’s parents and loved ones will forever be destroyed,” adding that if Democrats “cannot condemn these demonic acts of violence,” they “should not be in public office.”

In another statement, Schmitt pointed to the teen’s final moments — “I just don’t wanna die” — arguing the country is “done sacrificing our children at the altar of mass migration” and calling for mass deportations.

Prosecutors allege the killing of Young was deliberate.

A felony complaint says Archaga-Elvir “knowingly caused the death” of the teen by shooting him, while the probable cause statement outlines what investigators describe as a coordinated setup involving multiple individuals.

According to investigators, a juvenile suspect contacted Young and convinced him to leave his home under the belief he was meeting a girl. Instead, authorities say, Young was led into a trap.

Investigators allege the group had been driving around beforehand discussing how to “set up” the teen before tracking his movements and blocking the road.

Witnesses told investigators they warned Young not to go, fearing it was a setup tied to tensions from a prior homicide case in which he was expected to testify.

Authorities say when the vehicle stopped, Young realized what was happening and ran.

Investigators say Archaga-Elvir, wearing a black ski mask and armed with a handgun, chased the teen on foot before opening fire.

“Defendant ambushed victim, chased victim on foot, and shot victim as victim was stating he wanted to live,” the probable cause statement says.

Another witness reported hearing Young cry out, “I just don’t wanna die,” before gunshots rang out.

Young was pronounced dead after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.

Court records show Archaga-Elvir has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed ahead of a scheduled April 13 hearing.

“Miles Young was lured to his death believing he was going to meet a girl. Instead, he was ambushed and killed in cold blood by this illegal alien who went on to brag about the murder,” Department of Homeland Security Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.

“This animal was released into our country by the Obama administration,” she added. “ICE lodged an arrest detainer requesting Missouri not release this depraved killer from jail into American neighborhoods.”

DHS said Archaga-Elvir was arrested in Texas as an accompanied minor in 2015, but he was released by the Obama administration.

Young’s family said the loss has been devastating.

“Miles was a compassionate, loving, and kind 15-year-old who brought light to everyone around him,” his family wrote.

In a message shared online, his mother described him as “bright, kind, and unforgettable,” adding, “we are grieving a loss that words cannot fully express.”

The investigation remains ongoing.

Urgent Alert: Massive Battery Fire Forces Residents Indoors – Safety Tips and Updates

A lithium-fuelled fire has erupted at a Perth recycling plant, sending toxic smoke across the city’s south-eastern suburbs for hours.

A fire erupted at a Maddington workshop, driven by batteries, leading to the co-owner’s hospitalization and a warning for local residents to remain indoors.

The blaze engulfed the Li-ion Energy workshop around 1:30 p.m., sending dense, toxic smoke into the sky and triggering a hazardous materials alert for parts of Perth.

Batteries inside the Maddington workshop fuelled the flames as the co-owner was rushed to hospital and residents were warned to stay indoors. (9News)

Founder Justin Manton explained, “We had numerous lithium batteries ready for export, but we don’t believe they started the fire.”

He added, “The fire ignited the crates surrounding the batteries, and it spread very quickly.”

The owners were present when the fire broke out in an adjacent workspace.

“[It’s] well over $7 million in lost goods, and then there’s a building,” Manton said.

Burwash Place in Maddington was closed as fire crews got to work.

“We know we’re dealing with approximately 80 tonnes of solid-state batteries,” Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA Superintendent Leigh Bishop said.

Just last year the owners spoke to 9News warning about the dangers of battery fires, never imagining they’d be dealing with one themselves on this devastating scale. (9News)

Just last year the owners spoke to 9News warning about the dangers of battery fires, never imagining they’d be dealing with one themselves on this devastating scale.

“Yeah it’s pretty shocking, one of the things we just try to avoid the most is fires and to have it happen here is disappointing, and a bit tragic,” Manton said.

Late this afternoon crews appeared to get the upper hand but were set to remain on scene into the night.

The collapsed roof and walls of a workshop, along with twisted and smoking metal were signs of the damage.

“It’ll be a hard one, it’ll be pretty hard to overcome this,” Manton said.

Unraveling the ‘Cascade of Failures’: Brian Hooker Reveals Shocking Details Behind Wife’s Overboard Incident

The husband of a woman who vanished in the Bahamas after falling overboard from a small boat described the preceding events as a series of missteps during a phone conversation with a friend.

On April 7, Brian Hooker, aged 58, recounted the incident involving his wife, Lynette Hooker, 55, who reportedly went overboard two days earlier, with a calm demeanor.

“It was a series of mistakes, and it’s something that will haunt me forever,” he confessed to the unknown friend during the call.

“We lingered too long, left after dark, and failed to wear life jackets,” he explained.

The couple had ventured out in an eight-foot motorboat from Hope Town on April 5, but only Brian returned from the trip.

He told authorities that his wife fell overboard with the boat keys as they were returning to their yacht Soulmate, causing the engine to shut off and forcing him to paddle to the shore.

But in a shock twist, he was detained earlier this week by Bahamian police and remains in their custody.

‘She basically just bounced off the dinghy in the middle of a little blow,’ he can be heard telling his friend in a phone call verified by CBS

The couple had been making their way back to their sailboat Soulmate in an 8ft dinghy when Lynette fell overboard

The sun set ten minutes after she fell overboard, Hooker said, making it difficult for him to search for her. Neither of them were wearing life jackets at the time.

‘The wind blew us apart so fast that I think she tried to swim back to our sailboat which was probably 1,000 yards,’ he added.

‘I yelled to her that I lost the oar and I threw the anchor out and anchored the dingy.’

Hooker told his friend he quickly lost sight of his wife and threw her a flotation cushion in hopes that she would grab onto it. Authorities are still looking for the cushion.

He said it was hours before he could get back to the island to ask for help and even longer before police arrived to assist him.

The Royal Bahamas Police said Hooker was questioned ‘on probable cause’ and was taken into custody as a suspect in connection with his wife’s disappearance, but he has not been formally charged.

Hooker seems adamant that he had nothing to do with it.

‘The cops called me today and they asked how long I would be in the Bahamas,’ he told his friend over the phone. ‘Until I get my wife back.’

‘That’s my goal, I canceled everything we were going back home for,’ he added. ‘I’m gonna renew my visa and stay here.’

Hooker’s attorney Terrel Butler said his client ‘categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing’ in his wife’s disappearance, saying he ‘has been cooperating with the relevant authorities as part of an ongoing investigation.’

In a statement to the Daily Mail, Brian Hooker said he is ‘heartbroken’ by his wife’s disappearance, describing the incident as a ‘boat accident in unpredictable seas and high winds.’

‘Despite desperate attempts to reach her, the winds and currents drove us further apart,’ Hooker said. ‘We continue to search for her and that is my sole focus.’

It was announced Tuesday that the  search-and-rescue mission for Lynette had become a recovery mission.

‘She was the best part of this relationship, frankly,’ he added in the call to his friend.

Lynette’s daughter Karli Aylesworth and mother Darlene Hamlett are skeptical of Hooker’s account, each calling for an investigation into her death.

Hamlett said she was ‘glad to hear’ Hooker had been arrested and claimed he failed to notify her of her daughter’s disappearance.

‘It would be a miracle if [she’s rescued], but I’m still counting on one,’ Hamlett added.

Aylesworth said ‘prior issues’ lead her to believe a ‘thorough investigation’ was necessary.

‘If this truly was an accident, I can understand and live with it,’ she told Fox News Digital.

‘However, there needs to be an intensive review of the facts and circumstances of this tragic incident before that can be determined.’

The investigation remains ongoing as the search for Lynette continues.

The couple had been married for more than two decades and lived in Onsted, Michigan.

They traveled often, frequently posting social media pictures of their adventures.

Eamonn Holmes’ son has expressed that his father’s recent stroke was a “real shock” for the family, and they are currently “taking things one step at a time” as he recovers.

The 66-year-old television presenter was noticeably absent from his regular breakfast show last week after being urgently hospitalized due to the health crisis.

In a statement released on Sunday, Holmes’ eldest son, Declan, 37, conveyed the family’s gratitude: “I wanted to share a brief message to say we truly appreciate all the support and well-wishes. It means a great deal to us as a family.”

Declan continued, “The incident was indeed a real shock for us, but considering the situation, Dad is doing okay, and we are approaching his recovery one step at a time.”

“At the moment, our priority is his well-being and maintaining a calm environment for him,” he added.

‘We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family.’

Eamonn had been due to return to GB News Breakfast on Monday, to front the programme he co-hosts from Monday to Wednesday with Ellie Costello.

Alex Armstrong will step in to present in his absence this week.

Announcing his stroke, a GB News spokesperson said: ‘Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke.

‘He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.

‘His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People’s Channel when he is ready to return.’

CEO of GB News Angelos Frangopoulos, said: ‘Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we’re with him every step of the way as he recovers.’

Eamonn recently shared a ‘horrendous’ health update – and claimed that the ‘ageist’ TV industry ‘doesn’t want to know him’ now that he is older and in a wheelchair.

Back in 2016, the broadcaster underwent a double hip replacement, but in 2021 he suffered three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis.

He then had major spinal surgery the following year, and has had various other health issues over the past few years.

Last month, while interviewing Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Darren Jones MP, Eamonn looked like he had fallen asleep in the studio.

While Ellie quizzed Darren about the Mandelson files, Eamonn had his eyes closed and then later on during the chat he picked up a pen and struggled to put the lid on it.

After the interview finished, Eamonn told viewers: ‘We’ll see you bright and early again in the morning. Whatever you are up to, have a good day!’

Eamonn later clapped back at claims that he was ‘falling asleep’ live on air.

The star set the record straight during an appearance at Hayley Palmer’s An Audience With… in London’s Hippodrome Casino last month.

He said: ‘I was just looking down at my mic pack to see why it was not working, as we don’t have floor managers or camera operators.

‘Apparently I was sleeping? Whatever!’

A tradie has shared his harrowing experience after a roadside confrontation in Melbourne took a violent turn. Following a heated exchange with another driver, he was left bloodied and nursing broken teeth.

“I immediately went into fight or flight mode, trying to protect myself. Honestly, I thought it was the end for me. I’ve never faced anything like this before,” recounted Ciaran, reflecting on the ordeal.

The 21-year-old found himself the victim of a brutal road rage incident, during which he was struck on the head with a bat and subjected to a flurry of kicks and punches.

The 21-year-old was struck in the head with a bat, kicked and punched in a vicious road rage attack.

“They were screaming at me, ‘we’re gonna f—ing kill you’, calling me a rat and stuff,” he said.

“I don’t even know these guys.”

He says the argument began when he beeped his horn at a BMW travelling at half the speed limit in Keilor Downs.

“They were pushing me off the road, my car was hitting the rims on the side,” he said.

“Both vehicles collided when he tried to cross lanes and instead was pushed into a fence.

“And as I turned to get out of the car, I got a bat into the face and instantly I just felt all my teeth just crumble into my mouth.

“Blood instantly coming everywhere, I tried backing away from them.”

The driver and his passengers continued to lay into the apprentice plumber.

“All I was focused on is protecting my face ’cause it was bleeding, you know, so I’m protecting my face, trying not to let my teeth come out. So I’m just getting kicked in the back of the head,” he said.

“I was pretty scared, but I did get up to my feet just out of pure adrenaline and run in front of traffic, in front of oncoming traffic to try and get away from them, which did work.”

The BMW fled before police arrived. They’re now working to identify those men to hear their side of the story.

Anyone who knows them is being urged to come forward.

The victim also warned other drivers.

“Definitely just be careful who you beep at, I guess, you know, sometimes it’s not worth it,” he said.

East Village Outrage: Mamdani’s Controversial Shelter Plan Sparks Heated Debate in NYC

0

Residents of the East Village are expressing strong opposition to Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s proposal to relocate one of New York City’s most infamous homeless shelters to their area. Locals fear this move could turn their neighborhood into a hub for homelessness and potentially increase crime rates.

The Bellevue Shelter on East 30th Street in Midtown, soon to be closed, has housed various individuals, including former convicts and others with troubling histories. Among them was Ramon Rivera, who infamously embarked on a 2.5-hour stabbing spree in Manhattan on November 18, 2024, resulting in the deaths of three people.

During a heated community meeting on Tuesday, Reverend Keith Gadson, alongside hundreds of local residents, voiced strong disapproval of the plan. “None of you can stop drinking and drugging… and all lingering around here creating crimes and all kinds of stuff,” he declared, urging officials to consider moving the facility elsewhere. “Put it in your neighborhood!” he added.

In March, Mayor Mamdani announced that the 250 residents of the Bellevue Shelter would be relocated downtown due to the facility’s “severe state of disrepair.”

Starting May 1, the city’s primary homeless intake center, responsible for assessing individuals and connecting them with mental health and social services, will be situated at 8 East 3rd Street. This location is currently home to a shelter and services operated by the nonprofit organization Project Renewal.

The facility will have 117 beds, with residents staying roughly one to two days before being relocated to other sites, the Department of Homeless Services said.

Stays are supposed to be short-term, but the Bellevue site came under fire from critics because the city housed homeless New Yorkers there for months at a time.

Intake services for families without children will be relocated to the 117-bed sister facility at 333 Bowery, which is about a block away from the East 3rd Street site.

And the city has the power to flood both buildings with hundreds of more residents — for as long as it wants — according to a review of Mamdani’s March 26 “emergency executive order” approving the shelter switcheroo.

The order suspends a local city code that currently prohibits more than 200 shelter beds at shelter sites. The suspension also waives safety-code regulations prohibiting no more than 90 people on the first floor of both East Village sites.

“This will not be temporary shelters as they claim, it will be mega-shelters,” said Jason Murillo, a neighborhood activist and Republican running for state Senate.

Murillo accused Mamdani of pushing through the relocation plan under the guise of an “emergency” to avoid community backlash.

He and other neighbors are planning to file a lawsuit to block the opening, fearing the facility will be a magnet for criminals.

During the meeting, Murillo told DHS officials residents were upset over the rushed process — and have serious concerns that the shelters would be a bad mix for a neighborhood filled with apartment buildings, restaurants, schools, hotels and bars.

“We support services for vulnerable New Yorkers, but the issue here is transparency and planning,” he said. “Where is the environmental review? Where was the public safety plan to make sure we are all safe?”

DHS officials insisted the city notified the neighborhood as fast as it could — and that it would take steps to ensure both the interior and exterior of both buildings would be kept clean and secure.

Other residents in attendance questioned why the Bellevue site simply couldn’t be renovated or why Mamdani couldn’t find another location for it in Midtown.

“We have lots and lots of empty store space!” ripped one woman.  “You can rent a store space in the 42nd street area? So why us?”

It’s unclear what will become of the prime Midtown real estate once the Bellevue intake center is vacated.

DHS police and security staff will regularly monitor the new shelters’ exteriors to limit crowding and loitering and will work with NYPD cops to address any community concerns, a Mamdani administration spokesman said, adding there is “no expectation” lines will form outside.

Both East Village intake centers will operate on a “temporary” basis until the city builds a permanent site, a process that could take several years to complete, he said.

Most residents staying at the Bellevue site will be relocated to more permanent accommodations in other parts of NYC — not the new East Village intake centers, the spokesman added.

However, neighborhood activist Veronica Gonzalez said on X that “local residents are fed up.”

“Our community, families, and district deserve answers from City Hall and the mayor,” added Gonzalez, a Republican running for state Assembly.

“We hope to receive an answer soon from Mayor Mamdani and a full pause to the relocation of the Bellevue Homeless Shelter [to] the East Village.”

Tracy Ohiri Exposes MamaPee: Unveiling the Truth Behind ‘Cashivists

  • Businesswoman Tracy Ohiri has accused activist MamaPee of prioritising money over genuine advocacy, sparking mixed reactions online.
  • She further claimed that financial support had been extended to activists, but their actions did not reflect true commitment to the cause.

Tracy Ohiri, a prominent businesswoman, has taken a bold step in the public sphere by openly criticizing activist MamaPee. Ohiri’s accusations suggest a troubling trend among some activists, whom she claims prioritize financial gain over genuine advocacy efforts.

Her statement, which has rapidly gained traction online, paints a concerning picture of certain figures within the activist community. Ohiri contends that these individuals are more interested in personal benefits than in sincerely aiding the Nigerian populace.

In a particularly stark comment, Ohiri expressed, “Ogun kpa! your mama and papa. Your activism is all about money, not from the heart. I appreciate all you have done for me, but in this life and the next, I don’t need your type of help.” This remark underscores her frustration with what she perceives as insincere motivations.

Elaborating further, she claimed that despite providing financial support to activists, their actions have not demonstrated true dedication to the causes they purport to champion. Ohiri stated, “You only helped me you didn’t give me life. You don’t know anything about activism. I sent all of you money, and you so-called activists only care about money, not the Nigerians you claim to be fighting for.”

“You only helped me you didn’t give me life. You don’t know anything about activism. I sent all of you money, and you so-called activists only care about money, not the Nigerians you claim to be fighting for.”

Tracy also urged Nigerians to be more vocal and less dependent on activists.

“Nigerians, learn to speak up for yourselves, all these ‘cashivists’ are after their pockets.”

Her remarks have since sparked widespread reactions online, with social media users divided over the claims.

In other news… Popular content creator and streamer Peller has caused a stir online after he expressed displeasure over a question singer Ayra Starr reportedly asked Jarvis during a recent interaction.

The moment happened during a live stream hangout and collaboration involving the trio, which has continued to trend across social media platforms.

According to reports, Ayra Starr asked Jarvis whether she had a boyfriend a question Peller felt was inappropriate and unnecessary at the time.

Reacting angrily, Peller questioned why such a topic would be raised, suggesting that it undermined his relationship with Jarvis.

He also implied that the relationship should already be obvious to anyone familiar with them.

“Ayra Starr really belittled me yesterday. How could she ask Jarvis if she has a boyfriend? Is she saying she doesn’t know me?” he said.

Peller further insisted that he has made efforts to show commitment in the relationship, pointing to public gestures he believes should have made things clear.

He referenced some of these actions, including buying gifts for Jarvis and taking her on trips, questioning why that would not be recognised.

“Did she want to say she didn’t see when I bought GLE for Jarvis or when I took her on a vacation? She’s crazy,” he added.
