An incident in Minneapolis has resulted in the death of a 37-year-old American citizen, who was shot by a Border Patrol agent. The entire episode was captured on video.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) informed the Daily Mail that the deceased was armed with two magazines. The firearm has since been seized by federal authorities.

The confrontation unfolded shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, near the intersection of 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, close to Glam Doll Donuts. The altercation involved several agents.

Video footage depicts agents grappling with the individual before one officer discharges multiple rounds into the man’s chest, causing the agents to quickly disperse.

This incident is the third shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis within recent weeks. Earlier, an ICE officer fatally shot Renee Nicole Good on January 7, and another federal agent injured a man the following week.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the person shot is believed to be a 37-year-old white US citizen who lived in the city. The Minnesota Star Tribune identified him as Alex Jeffrey Pretti.

During the news conference, O’Hara said the man’s only contact with police, to their knowledge, was related to parking tickets. 

The chief said officials have identified the man – who is believed to have had a gun permit – though his name has not yet been released. Minnesota law allows permit holders to openly carry handguns in public without concealing them.

The shooting occurred during what appeared to be a struggle involving multiple agents just after 9am Saturday morning near Glam Doll Donuts at 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue

DHS shared a photo of the firearm which was seen lying on the passenger seat of a car. 

Minneapolis city officials have since addressed the emerging news on X, stating they ‘are aware of reports of another shooting involving federal law enforcement in the area.’

‘We are working to confirm additional details,’ the department’s post read. ‘We ask the public to remain calm and avoid the immediate area.’ 

President Donald Trump has also been briefed on the shooting, a White House official told the New York Times. 

DHS has since shared its account of the shooting on X, saying the deadly incident began as a ‘targeted operation against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault.’ 

‘An individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun,’ the department wrote. ‘The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted.’

‘Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene,’ the statement added.

‘The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID – this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.’

DHS also wrote that ‘about 200 rioters arrived at the scene and began to obstruct and assault law enforcement,’ leading to the deployment of crowd-control measures.

The city’s police department and officials with the Minnesota State Patrol are on scene and working to keep hundreds of observers and protesters separated from the federal agents.

As crowds continue to gather, the Minnesota State Patrol declared an ‘unlawful assembly,’ in the vicinity of the fatal shooting, according to CBS News.

Protesters are blocking streets with dumpsters and restaurant furniture while shouting ‘ICE go home!’ at agents, with the area still secured with police tape, according to the Star Tribune.

At least two flash-bangs have gone off as agents only continue to push back protesters with tear gas, with the fumes still lingering in the air, the outlet reported.

One protestor, who the New York Times said either dropped or threw his sunglasses, was met with pepper-spray to the face. 

‘This is not OK for our city,’ Joy, a 55-year-old resident at the scene told CBS News. ‘This is when we show our resolve as a city because we’re better than this. We are under attack by this administration right now and this is not OK. It’s just not.’ 

Several witnesses were transported to the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building as ICE agents tried to order local police to leave the scene, but Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara refused. 

O’Hara has instructed his officers to preserve the scene, with Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty stating that her office is working alongside the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) to coordinate a state response.

‘The scene must be secured by local law enforcement for the collection and preservation of evidence,’ Moriarty said, according to the Tribune.

‘We expect the federal government to allow the BCA to process the scene,’ she added.

Moriarty has also launched a secure portal for people to submit video and other evidence from the scene of Saturday’s shooting.

Mayor Frey singled out Trump, demanding that he ‘be a leader’ and ‘take action now and remove these federal agents’

‘How many more residents, how many more Americans need to die or get badly hurt for this operation to end?’ Frey declared, adding that the operations are ‘not creating safety in our city.’

He then singled out Trump, demanding that he ‘be a leader.’ 

‘Put Minneapolis, put America first,’ Frey said, urging the president to ‘take action now and remove these federal agents.’

Governor Tim Walz responded on X with a blistering demand directed at President Donald Trump. 

‘I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,’ Walz wrote.

‘The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota,’ he added. ‘Now.’ 

In another statement to X, Senator Amy Klobuchar wrote: ‘There has been another shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis and I am working to get more information.’

‘To the Trump administration and the Republicans in Congress who have stood silent: Get ICE out of our state NOW,’ she added.

Minnesota Representative IIhan Omar shared the video to X and wrote that it appears to be ‘an execution by immigration enforcement.’

‘I am absolutely heartbroken, horrified, and appalled that federal agents murdered another member of our community. It is beyond shameful these federal agents are targeting our residents instead of protecting them,’ she wrote.

Omar claimed that the incident ‘isn’t isolated or accidental,’ and said that the Trump administration is ‘trying to beat us into submission rather than protect us.’ 

‘This administration cannot continue violating constitutional rights under the guise of immigration enforcement. ICE and CBP must leave Minnesota immediately,’ the rep wrote.

‘Their presence is terrorizing our communities, violating rights, and taking lives with zero accountability,’ she added.

‘Minnesota was once a place of refuge, and Trump has turned it into a war zone where unchecked federal forces murder our neighbors.’

Senator Erin Murphy, the top Democrat in the state’s Senate, issued a statement demanding an end to the federal operation. 

‘ICE is a brutal invading force that acts without accountability or the most basic respect for human dignity or life,’ she said. ‘These agents of violence need to be brought to justice.’

Saturday’s fatal shooting comes just a week after an ICE agent, who DHS said feared for his life, fired a ‘defensive shot’ at illegal migrant Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in Minneapolis, striking him in the leg. 

Sosa-Celis was taken into custody after a targeted traffic stop turned violent, according to DHS.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents tried to pull him over, but Sosa-Celis allegedly sped off, crashed into a parked car and then fled on foot. 

A pursuit ensued and agents tried to detain him, but he resisted arrest and violently assaulted an officer, the Trump administration said. A struggle broke out, bringing both Sosa-Celis and the officer to the ground.

That’s when Alfredo Alejandro Ajorna and Gabriel Alejandro Hernandez-Ledzema allegedly came out of a nearby apartment and began to attack the agent with a snow shovel and broom handle.

Sosa-Celis managed to escape while the other suspects carried out their attack. He then picked up the shovel or broom and started to strike the officer. 

The three suspects, all Venezuelan nationals who entered the US under the Biden administration, ran back inside and barricaded themselves in the apartment. They were later arrested by ICE officials and charged with attempted murder.

The Daily Mail has reached out to DHS and the Minneapolis Police Department for comment. 

My interest in politics and international relations began to blossom during the late 1980s. This was a period marked by the concluding years of President Ronald Reagan’s second tenure. During this time, the Cold War loomed large, with the Soviet Union standing as a formidable adversary against the nations advocating for freedom.

However, not everyone in the free world was on the same page. Surprisingly, many leftist factions in the United States and Western Europe expressed open support for the communist ideology.

To deal with the unrelenting objection of these European lefties, the Reagan administration was finally forced to go a little soft on the communists:

To convince the Europeans that we were not the warmongers that European peace protesters were making us out to be, the Reagan Administration adopted a less confrontational policy toward the Soviet Union. Thus when the Russians shot down Korean Air Lines flight 007, brutally murdering hundreds of innocent passengers, President Reagan responded with empty rhetoric. When the Europeans issued subsidized credit to Moscow to finance the Siberian gas pipeline, Mr. Reagan backed off his earlier threats to impose sanctions against the Western Europeans. And it is Mr. Reagan who has given Gen. Wojciech Jaruzelski (the Polish communist leader) undeserved international respectability – and desperately needed sub-sidized credit – by agreeing to Poland’s membership in the International Monetary Fund.

It is important to stress that the Russian communists and their allies were really bad news. I understand that on American campuses these days, and in New York City government, communism is portrayed as a beneficent philosophy that entitles “each according to their need” and rewards poor people – while punishes the evil billionaires. But this is merely the propaganda of the Left. 

In reality, communism totally misunderstands human nature and creates a system where everyone except the party leadership is poor. The system has no real democracy, human rights, or freedoms for the people. Even worse, the Soviet Union was militaristic, and vowed to “bury” us, and followed through on their threats with violence and terror, sponsoring communist rebellions throughout the globe, including in Western Europe.

All of this was known by truly educated people. Yet, the lefties in Western Europe didn’t know it, or, even more disturbingly, knew it but pretended otherwise.

At the time I was observing all this chaos in Western Europe, I was a teenager, but rather “conservative” for a teenager. I was the type of teenager that obeyed the rules, came home at the appropriate hour, and didn’t get mouthy with my parents and other authority figures.  

Reading about the seemingly endless Western European protests – which were as wild and crazy as modern leftist “protests” about ICE or Israel are today – the thought occurred to me: those Western Europeans voters, citizens of NATO members, were just a bunch of bratty and irresponsible teenagers. They relied on Daddy U.S. to protect them from the big bad, communist world, but they also delighted in rebelling against his authority. And they always tried to avoid any work that might be required of them.  

Well, now we can see that some things never change.

With the current war against Iran, the Western Europeans are still stuck in arrested development. The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial waterway for international trade—especially Western European trade. (But not so much American trade.)  The Islamic regime of Iran is lashing out at the ships sailing through the strait, as it always does when it is in danger. This is a violation of international law. It is also targeting ships that have nothing to do with the U.S.-Israeli action against Iran. Which is the exact same thing it did near the end of its war with Iraq in 1988, which prompted American action to safeguard international shipping.  And so, here is what happened Thursday:

Trump has asked European and Gulf partners to take a more immediate role in ensuring passage through the strait — even threatening to exit the NATO alliance over their lack of help. Key allies have pushed back, arguing that deeper involvement in Iran must wait until the danger subsides. “This is not our war.  We will not be drawn into the conflict,”British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Wednesday, stressing that the priority remains “diplomatic and political measures” to restore safe transit.

The Western Europeans are so opposed to this war that Italy, Spain, France, and the U.K. have even refused to let the U.S. use the NATO bases in their territories and/or allow the U.S. and Israel to fly over their territory. And the “cheese eating surrender monkeys” are taking their surrendering to another, even more ridiculous, level, as RedState’s Nick Arama reported this week (find the two stories linked above). 

I strongly believe the U.S. should ally with nations that are capable and willing to cooperate with us. We really don’t need a bunch of unruly teenagers as allies, who rebel against us and won’t hold their own weight in the alliance.
