Rising Homelessness and Drug Challenges Hit One of America’s Most Beautiful Cities

0

Once celebrated for its Southern charm and historical allure, Savannah, Georgia, is now grappling with the challenges of homelessness and drug use under its current Democratic leadership.

This picturesque city, renowned for its more than 20 public squares adorned with churches, townhouses, and historic buildings draped in Spanish moss, has long held a reputation as one of America’s most beautiful cities.

However, when Dennis Lennox, a travel reporter for the Christian Post, revisited Savannah last year, he was struck by a noticeable shift. He reported a city increasingly overwhelmed by homelessness, with individuals openly using drugs.

“Benches and bushes served as makeshift encampments,” Lennox noted in a column published on Sunday, remarking on the unmistakable scent of marijuana lingering in several areas.

Particularly at Reynolds Square, where a bronze statue commemorates the founder of Methodism, Lennox witnessed blatant drug activity, further highlighting the city’s growing concerns.

‘People injected and smoked in broad daylight,’ he wrote. ‘The odor was unmistakable. There was no police presence.’

Similar scenes sprang up across the city, according to Lennox.

‘A leisurely stroll, particularly in the early morning, became an exercise in caution; watching where to step, skirting encampments and avoiding potential confrontation.’

City officials have since adopted an ordinance prohibiting urban camping, and by late 2025, police had issued 179 citations and made 15 arrests.

They also put together a five-year strategic plan to end homelessness in the city.

‘Access to mental health care is really critical, access to employment services and most importantly housing,’ Jennifer DuLong, CEO for Chatham Scranton Authority for the homeless, told WTOC.

‘With a plan like this, we can actually really effectively remove and resolve homelessness,’ added Stephanie Kaple, the Executive Director of the Savannah Chatham County Interagency Council on Homelessness, the lead organization in the plan’s development.

Yet problems have persisted, as residents started mixing Xylazine, also known as tranq, with fentanyl in February 2025 for a stronger high, according to WSAV.

The Homeless Authority also reported 457 sheltered and 172 unsheltered people during last year’s point-in-time survey, which is required by the federal Housing and Urban Development to allow organizations and agencies to receive federal funds.

The data shows that while the population of people experiencing homelessness in Savannah rose from 579 in 2024 to 628 in 2025, the number of people living unsheltered decreased, the Current reports.

That could suggest that coordinated efforts, including access to emergency beds and permanent supportive housing have been effective in reducing the number of homeless individuals.

Meanwhile, records show the number of recorded encampments in Chatham County plummeted from 80 in 2023 to 39 in 2025.

‘The ultimate goal is to put a roof over everyone’s head, but we can’t start there,’ Chris Wilson, an outreach case manager, told the Current.

Despite the setbacks, Democratic Mayor Van Johnson described Savannah as a ‘championship program’ in his State of the City address in November 2025.

‘Savannah will be safe,’ he vowed. ‘Savannah will thrive economically. Savannah will be safe, healthy and thriving for all of its citizens. And all means all.

‘Savannah is winning.

‘The state of our city is financially stable, foundationally deep and forward thinking.’

He noted that city officials had already recruited a special prosecutor for the Southern District if Georgia’s courts handle federal offenses.

Special US Attorney Makeia Jonese has since handled at least 59 open cases and has secured 23 federal indictments including major convictions of serious criminals.

To prevent further chaos, the Savannah city council also approved a controversial move that addressed firearms in unlocked vehicles.

As of 2024, there were 245 guns stolen from unlocked vehicles in Savannah, authorities said.

‘We know that these firearms are being stolen and used in criminal crimes, so we acted to defend public safety,’ Jonese said.

City officials said they have since issued 41 citations, 30 in 2025 alone, to assuage the authorities as 153 firearms were reported stolen.

‘We know that these firearms are being stolen to defend public safety,’ Mayor Johnson said, noting that in just one year the city has seen a nearly 40 percent decline in firearms being stolen from unlocked vehicles.

Authorities have also implemented a City of Savannah’s Top 10 Most Wanted list, the mayor said, as he applauded the Dundee Cottages project comprising 39 new cottages and 16 brand new apartments for people experiencing homelessness.

City officials have provided 679 dwellings, homeowner home repairs for 586 dwellings, homebuyer assistance for 165 individuals, infill housing for 234 dwellings and acquired 72 blighted properties, Johnson said in November.

Indirect investments from the Savannah Affordable Housing fund further helped support applications for three low-income housing tax credits, service centers and infrastructure.

Those tax credits will now help developers build 41 new affordable units for people experiencing homelessness, officials said.

Still, Lennox said he has no desire to return to the Georgia city anytime soon.

‘Savannah’s beauty is real,’ he wrote. ‘Its Oglethorpe plan remains one of the most distinctive urban designs in the country. Its architecture endures,’ the travel columnist said of the man who developed the city of roughly 15,000.

‘But beauty requires maintenance, clean, safe public spaces, consistent enforcement and policies that prioritize residents and visitors alike.

‘For now, I am in no hurry to return,’ the columnist continued. ‘There are other destinations where a long-planned trip is not marred by conditions no historic American city should tolerate.

‘Savannah can reclaim its squares and its promises, but only with sustained commitment from its leaders,’ Lennox concluded.

DCLM Daily Manna 31 March 2026 — Purpose Of Ministry Gifts

DCLM Daily Manna 31 March 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Purpose Of Ministry Gifts

TOPIC: Purpose Of Ministry Gifts (DCLM Daily Manna 31 March 2026)

KEY VERSE: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body Christ – Ephesians 4:11,12

TEXT: Ephesians 4:8-13 (KJV)

8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

American Bible teacher and writer, Warren W. Wiersbe, once perceptively noted that “Spiritual gifts are tools to build with, not toys to play with or weapons to fight with.” Apostle Paul provides an insight into this subject in our text. He affirms that the five-fold ministry gifts are to be exercised collectively to ensure the unity and growth of the Church. The goal is to achieve a spiritual balance that will secure and mature members in the faith. Poor understanding of the purpose of the ministry gifts is largely responsible for the disunity and stunted growth of many assemblies. Some leaders build their ministries on a single spiritual gift.

Some claim to have a deliverance ministry, while others focus solely on holiness or evangelism. Many charismatic preachers have built a cult of personality around themselves, reminiscent of the divisive chant of ‘I am of Paul, I am of Apollos’ (1 Corinthians 3:4). The average Christian associates miracle-working with the seal of the call to ministry. Besides, a leader could adopt a critical attitude towards another minister with a ministry gift different from his own. The gifts should complement one another.

The prophet is expected to inspire the teacher, and the teacher to steady the prophet. The evangelist continually reminds the Church that the harvest is plenteous, while the pastor motivates to nurture the converts. The apostle is to chart new territories for the Lord.

The five-fold ministry gifts are often compared to the five fingers of the hand, each with a specific role in the building process. ‘The thumb is the Apostle because he functions in all five gifts, holding everything together. The index finger is the Prophet because he gives direction. The middle finger is the Evangelist because he has the most reach. The ring finger is the Pastor because he is tasked with caring for the sheep. The pinky finger is the Teacher because he brings balance to the body of Christ.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The more the diversity of ministry gifts, the more the church is blessed.

Gas Prices Surge Past $4: A 3-Year High

0

The average price of a gallon of gasoline has soared past $4, marking an increase not observed in over three years, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA) on Tuesday.

Fuel prices at stations nationwide have been climbing steadily since the onset of Operation Epic Fury on February 28.

The national average now hovers at $4.018 per gallon, a significant jump from $2.98 just a month ago, as highlighted by AAA.

This surge in prices is not uniform across the United States. In Texas, drivers are paying around $3.678 per gallon, while in California, prices are approaching a steep $5.89.

Meanwhile, motorists in Oregon and Nevada are also facing high costs, with prices nearing $5 per gallon as per the latest figures.

In New York and New Jersey, a gallon still costs less than $4 but prices are creeping up.

Gas prices in the Empire State have jumped from $3 to $3.94 in the last month.

It’s the first time gas prices per gallon have reached $4 since August 2022.

In June 2022, gas prices passed the $5 a gallon mark for the first time – just three months after Russia launched its illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Energy costs have soared due to Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz –  the waterway which around 20% of the world’s oil supply travels through.

The White House has always stressed that short-term energy price fluctuations was a price worth paying for peace.

“As for the temporary short-term fluctuation in gas prices, the president has said that once these combat operations are over, this administration is going to continue to unleash energy dominance,” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters last week.

“We’re continuing to do that every day, and we’re going to see prices go back down at the pump as we have the past year because of this president.”

Earlier this month, President Trump wrote on Truth Social short-term oil prices would “drop rapidly” once “the destruction of the Iran nuclear threat is over.”

The White House has ordered 173 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and is temporarily lifting restrictions on E10 and E15 gasoline.

Waivers, which come into force on May 1 and will remain in place until May 20, will allow gasoline blended with 15% ethanol to be sold.

“This emergency action will provide American families with relief by increasing fuel supply and consumer choice,” Lee Zeldin, the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, said.

Search Underway for 27 Missing Passengers as Nazila 05 Sinks Near Taliabu Island, Indonesia

0

In a desperate effort to locate 27 individuals, rescue teams in Indonesia were mobilized on Monday following the sinking of a passenger boat amid turbulent seas. This tragic event occurred as the vessel made its way to a secluded village in the eastern part of the country.

The ill-fated boat, known as Nazila 05, set sail from Taliabu Island in North Maluku province just after nightfall on Sunday. Its destination was Kema, a coastal village within the same region. Muhammad Rizal, overseeing the search and rescue operations from Palu city in Central Sulawesi, confirmed the details of the voyage, noting the boat’s unfortunate fate near its path.

The ordeal came to light on Monday morning, when the ship’s owner, Rifani Samatia, reported the incident to authorities. This followed an urgent message from the Nazila 05’s captain, who had reached out to explain the vessel’s dire condition. The boat’s bow had succumbed to the relentless pounding of high waves brought on by severe weather conditions. Alarmingly, within half an hour, the captain relayed the grim news of the vessel’s sinking.

Despite the abrupt calamity, Rizal reported that all 27 people aboard successfully evacuated to a longboat before the vessel was lost to the sea. Unfortunately, the whereabouts of the evacuees remain uncertain, adding urgency to the rescue efforts.

To aid the search, a rescue team was swiftly deployed. Their efforts are bolstered by a rescue vessel equipped with advanced navigational and communication technology, a helicopter, and the invaluable assistance of local fishers, as noted by Rizal.

He said the Nazila 05 was frequently used to transport tourists and was also known locally as a fishing or small passenger vessel.

Indonesia is an archipelago with more than 17,000 islands, where boats are a common form of transportation. With lax safety standards and problems with overcrowding, accidents occur frequently.

Rhapsody Of Realities 31 March 2026: Separated By The Spirit

Rhapsody Of Realities 31 March 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Separated By The Spirit

TOPIC: Separated By The Spirit (Rhapsody of Realities 31 March 2026)

Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts (2 Corinthians 1:22).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

1 Corinthians 6:11 reveals something extraordinary about the new creation; it says, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are SANCTIFIED, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” I want you to notice the underlined word “sanctified”: it means you’ve been separated or set apart by the Spirit.

You’ve been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. That seal is a spiritual mark that identifies you as God’s own possession. In the realm of the spirit, you carry a divine signature. This Holy Spirit is also described as the earnest (the down payment or deposit) of our inheritance.

That means God has given you the Holy Spirit as proof that everything He promised in Christ is already yours. If He gave you His Spirit, He has given you access to everything else. The presence of the Holy Spirit in your life is God saying, “You’re mine. You’re distinguished. You’re recognized in the heavens.” Angels see that mark. Demons recognize it. Hallelujah!

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 says, “Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.” This separation is not one of isolation but of distinction. It means you have God’s approval, His authority, and His protection.

You’re set apart from sin, fear, sickness and poverty into a new life of righteousness, peace and dominion. You’re not like the world. You’re in Christ, and Christ is in you. His presence in you is your assurance of victory in this world and your guarantee of eternal glory: “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Hallelujah! Live in the consciousness of this truth.

CONFESSION

I am sealed and separated by the Holy Spirit from sin, danger and death unto righteousness, peace, prosperity, victory, glory and immortality. I live in the consciousness of His presence, guidance and power. I’m distinguished for greatness and walk in the fullness of my inheritance, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

Ephesians 1:13-14 (KJV) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, [14] Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Romans 8:15-17 (KJV) For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. [16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: [17] And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

1 Corinthians 6:11 (KJV) And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

DIVINE HEALTH CONFESSIONS – 31ST MARCH 2026

As the Father is Himself the source of life, so has He made me a source of life. Sickness doesn’t exist in my world because I am a new creation in Christ Jesus, born of God’s Word and a dispenser of eternal verities. I am the light of the world, shining in health and showcasing God’s glory.

Keep saying it, don’t stop talking it! Remember, you can make your way prosperous with words. Get talking today!

Remember to share with all your friends and loved ones today. Thank you and God bless you richly.

Colorado Sheriff and Deputies Face Indictment Over Misconduct in Human Remains and Taser Incidents

0

A significant portion of a rural sheriff’s department in Colorado, led by Sheriff Danny Sanchez, is facing legal action following a comprehensive investigation into alleged misconduct.

Twelfth Judicial District Attorney Anne Kelly announced the charges against four current members of the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office—and one former deputy—at a March 27 press conference in connection with two separate incidents.

“I cannot and will not ignore violations of the trust that a community should have in their police,” Kelly stated emphatically. “No citizen of the San Luis Valley should have any doubts about the integrity of their police force. This office is not afraid to defend that trust.”

Oxygen attempted to contact Sanchez regarding the accusations but has yet to receive a response.

The charges against Danny Sanchez and former Deputy Keith Schultz are linked to claims of improper handling of human remains, as detailed in a grand jury indictment.

In October 2024, the duo—each facing four counts of misconduct and a single count of corpse abuse—reportedly responded to a call at Wild Horse Mesa. They were informed about human remains, including a skull, teeth, and silver-hued dental work, discovered and photographed by the property owner, as per the indictment. Although they collected the skull, the indictment claims they left behind other remains such as the teeth, which are now missing, along with several other pieces of human remains, clothing, and shoes.

In October of 2024, the men—who were each indicted on four counts of misconduct and one count of abuse of a corpse—allegedly reported to Wild Horse Mesa after receiving a report that human remains, including a skull, human teeth and silver colored dental work, had been discovered on the property and photographed by the property’s owner, according to the indictment. While the officers collected the skull, authorities alleged in the indictment that they left behind the rest of the remains including the teeth, which are now lost, and “at least half dozen items of human remains as well as human clothing and shoes.”

The property owner told investigators, per the indictment, that Sanchez seemed “more interested in looking for arrowheads than investigating the human remains.”

Prosecutors also allege that Schultz waited two months to write a report about the discovery. And when he did, according to the indictment, he noted in the report he’d left the remains in a bag on his desk and went on another call. A coroner’s official later told investigators, per the indictment, that the skull had been delivered in an unlabeled bag like looked like a “used paper grocery bag, not a forensic evidence bag.”

“It had no markings or labelling describing the items, the date or location of collection, the identity of the collector, or the chain of custody related to the evidence, and had no tape or seals to protect the integrity of the evidence,” stated the court documents. “Inside the bag was a skull matching the photos taken on Wild Horse Mesa, but the teeth with dental work were missing and no other remains were contained in the bag.”

The sheriff’s office had allegedly told a person connected to the case that the investigation was closed and they “expended no further efforts or resources regarding these unidentified human remains,” authorities wrote in the indictment.

Prosecutors also referenced a report that concluded “the investigative efforts of the sheriff’s office were far below the standard of care, noting that the loss of the dental evidence was especially egregious” and argued that it was against unusual practice not to call a coroner out to the scene when human remains are found.

The remains were later transferred to the Alamosa County Coroner for secure storage and were submitted for forensic anthropological analysis, authorities said.

Three More Costilla County Sheriff’s Department Officers Face Assault Allegations

In a separate incident, the sheriff’s son Sgt. Caleb Sanchez, Undersheriff Cruz Soto and Deputy Roland Riley were accused of using a Taser in February against a man suffering from what Kelly described as a “mental health crisis.”

The incident began after officers were called to a home and discovered a distraught man “holding a razor-edged hunting arrow to his own neck,” after his wife had left him, according to a separate indictment.

Officers were able to convince the man to drop the arrow and come into the sheriff’s office to speak to them “about possible employment as a jail deputy,” authorities wrote in the documents.

Once at the sheriff’s office,  law enforcement officers allegedly insisted the victim—who was not armed—go to the hospital “voluntarily.” However, the victim started walking away and “became agitated” after he noticed the deputies surrounding him. He allegedly told the officers, per the indictment, that he was upset about “being lied to.”

Prosecutors allege that Riley and Caleb Sanchez both fired the Taser, causing the victim’s body to stiffen and fall face first on the asphalt pavement as he screamed out in pain.

Authorities alleged in the indictment that the men used “excessive” force, noting the victim “did not pose an immediate threat to the deputies or others” and was not under arrest, making him free to leave.

The victim allegedly broke a rib during the incident and was never charged by the sheriff’s office, authorities said.

According to Kelly, all five men turned themselves in to authorities and were expected to be released after posting bond.

“The District Attorney’s Office is committed to investigating and prosecuting violations of Colorado law, regardless of who the offender is and what title they hold,” Kelly said in a press release provided to Oxygen. “Our community expects our law enforcement officers to perform their duties with integrity and adherence to the law.  Restoring and maintaining public trust must always start with accountability.”

She noted that the district attorney’s office did not have the authority to remove the sheriff from office, adding “These indictments are merely allegations, and these individuals are innocent until proven guilty.”

According to The Associated Press, the allegations impact more than half of the department’s seven employed law enforcement officers.

Oxygen reached out to Schultz’s attorney Peter Comar, but did not receive an immediate reply. It’s unclear whether the others have retained attorneys.

Tragic Discovery: Two Teens Fatally Shot on Mississippi Backroad Leaves Community Reeling

0

In a tragic discovery on Monday, two teenagers were found shot dead on a secluded road in Hinds County, Mississippi. The victims, identified as Terry Burrell Jr. and Khloe Hudson, both 16, were discovered by sanitation workers around midday.

According to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, both teens had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Their disappearance had been reported to the Jackson Police Department within the previous 24 hours, adding urgency to the search before their bodies were found.

Tyree Jones, who serves as both the Jackson Police Chief and the Sheriff of Hinds County, reported that investigators suspect the shootings occurred at the location where the bodies were found, just northwest of Jackson. However, authorities are not dismissing the possibility of another crime scene elsewhere.

As of now, no suspects have been identified, and the motive behind this double homicide remains unclear. Despite wearing his Jackson Police Department uniform at the scene, Jones emphasized that the sheriff’s office would spearhead the investigation, with support from both Jackson and Capitol police forces.

Jones did not identify any suspects or any potential motive for the double slaying. Although he was wearing his Jackson PD uniform at the time, Jones said the investigation would be led by the sheriff’s office with assistance from Jackson and Capitol police.

Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office at 601-352-1521 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).

Shockwaves at the BBC: Scott Mills’ Unexpected Dismissal Leaves Production Team Uninformed

0

In a startling turn of events, a succinct email sent to Scott Mills’ colleagues at the BBC disclosed his abrupt dismissal. This development comes amidst a police investigation into allegations of sexual offenses involving a teenage boy.

Scott’s production team was blindsided by the sudden move, receiving no prior notification of his dramatic exit from the network.

The 53-year-old Radio 2 host was terminated last Tuesday following accusations related to his personal behavior in a “historic relationship.”

Despite the brewing storm, Mills had conducted his usual breakfast show that morning, having taken over the slot from Zoe Ball the previous year. He ended the show at 9:30 AM with a routine sign-off, “Back tomorrow.”

However, the shocking news of his departure came to light on Monday through an email sent by Lorna Clarke, the BBC’s director of music, effectively sealing Mills’ fate at the network.

Until that moment, his team, who had no idea what was coming, had worked on the Monday breakfast show normally.

The email said: ‘I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock.

‘Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes.’

News of his dismissal was not briefed to his production team, though to include long time collaborators Patrick Thomas and Ben Stones, before the Clarke email.

A BBC source told the Daily Mail today: ‘Mills’ own team only found out the same way that everyone else did so you can imagine the shock they experienced.’

It comes as Gary Davies opened the Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Tuesday morning with no mention of his sacked colleague Scott.

The Radio 2 Breakfast Show host was hauled off air last Tuesday, and his contract was then terminated after a ‘tense meeting’ with BBC bosses over his ‘personal conduct’.

The allegations against Mills, 53, are thought to date back a decade to his time on Radio 1, with reports suggesting they involve a ‘historic relationship’.

Experienced DJ Davies, 68, has stepped in to host the show since Mills’ departure last week and is scheduled to host for at least the next week as the broadcaster scrambles to find a permanent replacement.

Davies was introduced on Tuesday morning’s show with his own Breakfast Show jingle, asking listeners to message in with what ‘you have already accomplished so far this morning?’ before heading straight to a string of songs.

There was also no mention of Mills in the 7am news bulletin but the 7:30am update led with the headline that Mills was investigated in a 2026 police probe into ‘serious sexual offences’ against a teenage boy.

Davies later read out a message from one fan praising his Breakfast Show stint, which read: ‘Top Of The Pop in the eighties was my favourite era and now you’re waking me up in the morning, what could be better?’

The DJ littered the first thirty minutes of his show with plugs for Radio 2’s Eurovision coverage, an awkward moment as Mills is one of the BBC’s long-standing Eurovision commentators.

Listeners were bemused by the BBC’s failure to address Mills’ exit, with one posting on X: ‘Radio 2 going for the Basil Fawlty approach this morning. Don’t mention the war! Curious item missing from the news bulletins.’

‘Gary Davies desperately playing records non-stop. No discussion between any presenters.’

Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s presenter Davies has previously provided holiday cover for other Radio 2 DJs and temporarily took over Pick Of The Pops following the 2024 death of Steve Wright.

One of the Corporation’s highest-paid stars, who earned up to £360,000 a year, Mills’s departure has caused ‘absolute chaos’ at Radio 2, insiders told the Daily Mail, with colleagues ‘in shock’ and bosses scrambling to find a replacement.

A source explained how Mills was called in for a meeting after an allegation was made against him last Tuesday.

‘He was taken off air from Radio 2 the following day and his contract was terminated at the weekend. It was a very fast process between the complaint being raised and Scott leaving. It happened in less than five days,’ the insider has told The Sun.

A source close to Mills said: ‘Scott was told about the allegation in a meeting with senior staff present. He was tense.

‘He has completely shut down now and no one can get hold of him. No calls, no messages — nothing. The people who know him are blindsided by all of this.’

Last night, the Daily Mirror reported the decision to fire Mills came after a 2016 police investigation into ‘serious sexual offences’ against a teenage boy.

It claimed the DJ was questioned at the time but the case was dropped due to a lack of evidence. The newspaper alleged his sacking related to the same individual.

Mills is the latest in a string of stars to lose their jobs at the scandal-ridden BBC. His ousting follows the exit of news anchor Huw Edwards, along with MasterChef pair Gregg Wallace and John Torode, in the past two years.

It is believed the unceremonious firing, announced with a curt public statement yesterday morning, was one of the last acts of director-general Tim Davie, who wanted to ‘clear the decks’ before leaving his post on Thursday.

Mr Davie, who himself resigned after it emerged that footage of a speech made by US President Donald Trump had been edited and spliced together in an episode of Panorama, wanted one last roll of the dice, an insider said.

But he will be leaving interim director-general Rhodri Talfan Davies, and permanent replacement Matt Brittin, with a major headache as the race is on to find a replacement for Mills or risk losing listeners.

The biggest breakfast show in the country currently brings in a weekly audience of some 6.5million, after listeners lost under Mills’s predecessor Zoe Ball returned.

Mills’s team are said to be taking legal advice in the wake of his sacking.

Last night, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘In December 2016, the Met began an investigation following a referral from another police force. The investigation related to allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy. These were reported to taken place between 1997 and 2000.

‘As part of these inquiries, a man who was in his 40s at the time of the interview, was questioned by police under caution in July 2018.

‘A full file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, who determined the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges. Following this advice, the investigation was closed in May 2019.’

A representative for Mills declined to comment when approached by the Daily Mail.

In an internal note to staff yesterday morning, Lorna Clarke, the Corporation’s director of music, said: ‘I wanted to personally let you know that Scott Mills has left the Breakfast Show, and the BBC. I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock.

‘Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on Radio 1, Radio 5 Live, Radio 2 and TV. I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity.’

She said it would ‘come as a shock to our audience and loyal breakfast show listeners too’ as she promised to update everyone with ‘more information on plans for the show when I’m able to’.

She added: ‘While I appreciate many of you will have questions, I hope you can understand that I am not going to be saying anything further now.’

In a statement, the BBC said: ‘While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.’

Mills’s final show aired last Tuesday – following his presenting stint on BBC’s Comic Relief the previous Friday – and he signed off by telling listeners: ‘See you tomorrow.’ Just six days later, Mills was gone from the job.

Discover the 8-Minute Bedtime Routine Proven to Reduce Belly Overhang More Effectively Than Traditional Ab Workouts for Those Over 60

A certified fitness expert claims that an 8-minute routine you can do in bed outperforms traditional ab workouts for those in their 60s looking to tone their midsection.

If you’re aiming to firm up your belly but find time scarce, there’s a promising alternative. Many adults over the age of 60 can skip the endless crunches and grueling core exercises. Instead, they can achieve a flatter stomach while minimizing stress on the lower back and spine.

This is where bed exercises come into play. We consulted James Bickerstaff, CPT, a personal trainer with OriGym, who shared a highly effective, quick bed routine aimed at reducing belly overhang in less than 10 minutes.

“These exercises are designed to enhance abdominal control and stability rather than just targeting the surface muscles,” Bickerstaff explains. “This approach is crucial as the deeper core muscles are essential for posture support and reducing the bulge of the lower abdomen.”

“These movements focus on improving abdominal control and stability rather than just working the surface muscles,” Bickerstaff explains. “That’s important because the deeper core muscles play a big role in supporting posture and helping reduce lower abdominal protrusion.”

Studies show that activating your deep core muscles can help boost spinal stability and functional strength. Other research suggests that low-impact core training can help improve balance, posture, and mobility in older adults, all of which are factors that often decline with age.

Pelvic Tilts

Pelvic tilts are often used in physical therapy because they activate your deep abdominal muscles while mobilizing your lower spine.

“This movement strengthens the deep core muscles and helps flatten the lower stomach by improving abdominal control and posture,” says Bickerstaff.

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet resting comfortably on the bed.
  2. Place your arms alongside your body and keep your head relaxed.
  3. Lightly engage your core muscles.
  4. Tilt your pelvis so your lower back presses into the mattress.
  5. Hold the position for two to three seconds (remember to breathe!).
  6. Slowly relax and return to the starting position.
  7. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps, resting for 30 to 45 seconds between sets.

Lying Knee Tucks

Knee tucks target your lower abs while also helping improve hip mobility. Because the movement is slow and controlled, it strengthens your core without placing pressure on your neck or lower back.

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your back with your legs extended and your arms resting at your sides.
  2. Lightly tighten your ab muscles.
  3. Slowly bend one knee and bring it toward your chest.
  4. Keep your lower back relaxed against the mattress.
  5. Pause for one to two seconds when your knee reaches your chest.
  6. Slowly return your leg to the starting position.
  7. Repeat with the opposite leg.
  8. Complete 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per leg. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between sets.

Heel Slides

Heel slides are a low-impact movement that can help enhance coordination between your core and hips. “This low-impact movement helps strengthen the lower abdominal muscles while improving stability through the hips and pelvis,” says Bickerstaff.

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the bed.
  2. Keep your arms resting comfortably at your sides.
  3. Tighten your core gently while breathing normally.
  4. Slowly slide one heel away from your body along the mattress.
  5. Extend your leg until it is almost straight.
  6. Keep your lower back stable against the bed throughout the movement.
  7. Slide your heel back toward your body to return to the starting position.
  8. Repeat with the opposite leg.
  9. Aim for 2 to 3 sets of 12 reps per leg, resting for 30 to 45 seconds between sets.

Bent-Knee Marches

Bent-knee marches are designed to strengthen the muscles that stabilize your pelvis and spine during leg movement. “Bent-knee marches stabilize your stomach and spine, helping to tighten and support your midsection over time,” Bickerstaff explains.

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the bed.
  2. Engage your abdominal muscles gently.
  3. Lift one foot a few inches off the mattress while keeping your knee bent.
  4. Keep your pelvis in place and avoid rocking your hips.
  5. Hold the raised position for one to two seconds.
  6. Slowly lower your foot back down with control.
  7. Repeat the movement with the opposite leg.
  8. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between sets.

Glute Bridges

Although glute bridges mostly target your hips and glutes, research shows they’re also essential for core stability. “Glute bridges are incredibly effective because they strengthen the hips and core together, which helps reduce pressure on the lower stomach,” says Bickerstaff.

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the mattress.
  2. Place your arms comfortably at your sides.
  3. Engage your core and press your feet firmly into the bed.
  4. Lift your hips upward until your body forms a straight line from shoulders to knees.
  5. Squeeze your glutes and hold the position for two to three seconds at the top of the movement.
  6. Slowly lower your hips back down to the mattress.
  7. Complete 2 to 3 sets of 12 reps, resting for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Grief has enveloped a community as loved ones remember a 16-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in a suburban Chicago apartment shooting.

The young victim, Lilly Bova, was shot late Saturday morning at her residence in an unincorporated area of Glenview, as reported by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities responded to the scene around 11 a.m., performing emergency medical procedures before transporting her to a hospital. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead soon after her arrival.

Investigators are actively seeking Bova’s assailant, though no details about a potential suspect have been released at this time.

In a statement issued Monday morning, law enforcement assured the public that the shooting was an isolated event, posing no continued danger to the community. They have urged anyone with insights into the incident to assist in the investigation.

“She was a great person. Always had a smile on her face. It’s just so sad,” said Samuel Thompson, a friend of Bova’s who spoke with myfox8.com.

“Honestly, (she was) just a really good, kindhearted person,” said Laith Bardic, another friend. “You hate to see it in the community because it’s a really good area, everyone knows each other and everyone’s really close.”

Glenbrook South High School, where Bova was a student, reportedly sent a letter to the community expressing its grief.

“It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the loss of sophomore Lilly Bova, who tragically died on Saturday, March 28, while at home. We are keeping her family in our thoughts and respecting their need for privacy as they grieve this unimaginable loss,” the letter reportedly said.

“Though Lilly was a quiet spirit, her teachers and those who knew her best said she loved deeply and was bright, positive and mature beyond her years. Her kind-hearted and optimistic nature will be sorely missed,” the letter continued.
