In 2024, a new pop sensation, known for her bold and progressive style, took the music world by storm with her breakout hit, “Good Luck Babe!”
Following the release of her debut album, “The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess,” this single catapulted her into the limelight. Tracks like “Pink Pony Club” and “HOT TO GO” quickly became anthems of the era, solidifying her place in the industry.
However, Chappell’s rising star is now at risk of being overshadowed by a string of publicized ‘diva’ incidents and controversies.
Most recently, she made headlines when reports surfaced that her security team allegedly caused distress to Jude Law’s 11-year-old daughter, Ada.
In response, Chappell released a video statement clarifying that the security personnel involved were not her direct employees, and she had not instructed anyone to approach the young girl.
And now it seems fans are questioning her authenticity and revealing her privileged upbringing that she is keen to hide.
Sharing details of her background on social media, one user penned: ‘Oh wow Chappell might come from more money than any other pop girl’ while another added: ‘Oh chappell comes from money money omg’.
Her outspoken statements can be rather contradictory, after she called out her disdain for the Grammys in 2022, before going on to win a prestigious award three years later.

In a resurfaced interview from 2022 she exclaimed: ‘F*** the Grammys. It is a f****** talent show for rich people. And I hope they hear this’.
Furthermore, after previously stating on a TikTok live that if she ever won a Grammy she wouldn’t turn up, in 2025 she took to the stage to accept the award for Best New Artist.
But Chappell used her speech to call out record companies to treat their artists fairly as she cited her own struggles after being dropped from her label before hitting the big time.
She told the audience: ‘I told myself, if I ever won a Grammy and I got to stand up here in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off artists would offer a living wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists.
‘I was signed as a minor, [and] when I got dropped I had zero job experience under my belt. And like most people I had a difficult time finding a job during the pandemic and could not afford health insurance.
‘It was so devastating to feel so committed to my art and feel so betrayed by the system. I was so dehumanized not to have health insurance.’
And fans are questioning how genuine her statement was, as one user took to Twitter writing: ‘Chappell Roan’s family is worth hundreds of millions of dollars but she couldn’t afford health insurance after getting dropped by her label when she was like 22 (and young enough to still be on her parent’s health insurance).’
Chappell’s late grandad, and inspiration behind her stage name, Dennis Chappell was one of the original business partners of Proctor-Jarvis-Chappell Insurance Agency, which later became PJC Insurance of Springfield.
Partner Darrell Proctor called Dennis the ‘company dreamer’ and today the company is estimated to make an estimated $9million to $10million in annual revenues.
Extremely ambitious in his career, according to his obituary Dennis was also an accomplished pilot and he also owned Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club in Bolivar Missouri.
Also living on the grounds of the club, the 18-hole championship golf course spans 6,950 yards of play and is home to over 300 golf members and hosts numerous statewide golf championships.
Meanwhile her parents are also incredibly successful.
Chappell has often referenced how she lived in a trailer park in her early childhood, before later moving into a house.
However it appears this living situation was only temporary as the family went on to have a very successful veterinary business.
Her mum Dr Kara Amstutz earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 2000 and founded her own practice in 2002.
Furthering her specialism, in 2013 she became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist, followed by a Veterinary Pain practitioner a year later and a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist in 2019.
Then in 2022 she became the owner, CEO, and lead clinical instructor at the Canine Rehabilitation Institute and in 2024 founded Momentum Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in Springfield, Missouri.
She also lectured nationally and internationally on topics related to canine rehabilitation.
Her dad Dwight also helped manage the practice and previously trained as a nurse working in neurological and burn intensive care units.
However Chappell has also spoken out about it being wealthy people’s responsibility to give back.
In her speech at the Resonator Awards in January, when Chappell received the Harmoniser Award, she said that her actions are influenced by those who are actively supporting marginalised communities.
‘I only know what to do because I see other people in my life doing good things and listening to trans people who need representation and money for healthcare and rent.’

She continued: ‘I think that it’s just an artist’s – and anybody who has money – it’s kind of your duty to give it away. I don’t really know what else there is to harmony other than giving.’
Chappell has also been very open about her conservative upbringing coming from a small Christian town in the Midwest.
While the star now openly identifies as a lesbian, she has shared that she used to be scared of flamboyantly gay people as that’s what she was taught growing up and had to unlearn a lot of beliefs that were pushed on her.
She told Rolling Stone in 2024: ‘[I realized] people hate flamboyantly gay people because it exudes femininity, and people hate women. Just little things like that that you’re like, “Oh, my God, this is so f*****.”‘
However the star has shared how she still has love and respect for her family despite their republican views and has clarified that they are fully supportive of her career, despite her hyper-sexual lyrics and image.
‘I have family that are very Republican, and they love me and I love them. It’s so hard for kids who grew up on the coast to understand why maybe I can… understand.
‘And I understand all of it that was in me came from fear because I just didn’t know.’
During her appearance on Alex Cooper’s podcast Call Her Daddy, Chappell shared that she never imagined she would be free from her restrictive upbringing.
‘I always did want to dress up and be super girly, or be really tomboy. I just wanted to be free,’ she said.
‘But I just didn’t ever think it would really happen. And now that it has, I don’t think [my younger self] would believe it at all. I don’t think she could ever believe that this is what I do.’
Featuring on an Apple TV+ special with Zane Lowe, her mum reflected on the first time she heard Pink Pony Club.
‘I started to tear up just listening to her sing it. We love her so much, and we’re so proud of everything she does, who she is, and what she stands for.”’
With tears in his eyes, Dwight added: ‘We could never not be proud of her… What she’s taught me as a father is respect for all people, and that’s what I want others to understand.’
‘Everything about her is about loving everyone, and she’s taught me that.’
Chappell has come under fire this week after footballer Jorginho took to Instagram to claim his stepdaughter Ada, who wife Catherine Harding shares with actor Jude, was threatened by the singer’s bodyguard after the child spotted the star in the same hotel in Brazil.
Amid a huge backlash the singer responded in a video insisting it was not her personal security and she did not ask anyone to approach the child.
‘I’m gonna tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child who were involved with a security guard – who is not my personal security…’ she said in the video.

‘I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children, like that is crazy. I am sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something.
‘If you felt uncomfortable that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.’
However, the apology has not gone down well with Ada’s mother Catherine, nor with many social media users, who have been quick to point out Chappell’s lengthy history of scandals.
‘I know that Chappell has responded, saying that ‘It wasn’t her security and that she didn’t do it’ well, 100 per cent this wasn’t a security guard of the hotel that’s what I can say, he looks after artists,’ Catherine said in her video.
‘Now I don’t know if he’s her personal security guard but he was with her, so that is all I know, did she send him to do it? Again, I don’t know, I would like to hope not.
‘But at the same time you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity that the people who work for you and act on your behalf are acting on your behalf.
‘So would he do that if he didn’t have her authority? I don’t know. If he does, that’s a big problem. because then he is representing her in a way she doesn’t want to be represented.’
Catherine added that Chappell was right to say she ‘didn’t notice anything’ because nothing happened and claimed all her daughter did was walk silently past the hitmaker’s table.
‘[My daughter] didn’t have her phone, she didn’t try to take a picture, she didn’t do anything, she just looked at [Chappell] and smiled’.
Catherine went on to recall how a security guard, who she described as ‘aggressive and intimidating’ soon came over to their table and ‘berated’ her for being a bad parent.
‘He said we should not harass people and all these other things and I did try to explain to him that she was a child and she was just excited to see an artist she liked’.
She explained to him that her daughter, who has a famous father and stepfather, understood ‘boundaries’ acceptable to people in the public eye, but said the security guard did not listen.
‘I hope [Chappell] did not know, I hope she did not send her security over to do this. I really think she is a very very talented artist we liked her a lot we came all the way to São Paulo to watch her show.
‘It was her birthday present, she asked for tickets, it was a little bit ruined because we didn’t go to the show last night but that’s how it is.’

Jorginho previously said that after the incident his step daughter was left ‘extremely shaken and cried a lot’ and accused the singer of not appreciating her supporters, adding: ‘Without your fans, you would be nothing.’
The Daily Mail have contacted Chappell Roan’s representatives for comment.
In 2024 Chappell infamously clashed with a photographer who shouted ‘shut the f**k up’ by snapping back, ‘You shut the f**k up – not me, b**ch.’
Then, at the premiere of Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour, the star confronted the photographer and accused him of being ‘disrespectful’ toward her at the Grammys.
‘You were so rude to me,’ she told him. ‘And I deserve an apology for that. You need to apologise to me.’
Later in April 2025, Chappell appeared at the centre of backlash once again when she was accused of pushing her assistant on the Fashion Los Angeles Awards red carpet.
