Unveiling a Royal Revolution: How Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip Modernized the Monarchy

0

According to a royal expert, the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip formed a remarkable partnership, often referred to as a ‘double act,’ as they embraced the evolving dynamics of a blended Royal Family.

Married in 1947, Elizabeth and Philip’s relationship was described as ‘fascinating’ by Gyles Brandreth on HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast. Their bond, which endured the test of time, was extraordinary, Brandreth noted.

“Living with the same person for such a long period and maintaining such a harmonious relationship is truly remarkable,” he commented, highlighting their unique partnership.

As the Royal Family prepares to mark the late Queen’s centenary on April 21, King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to lead the tributes in honor of what would have been her 100th birthday.

It comes as the Royal Family prepare to celebrate the late Queen’s historic centenary on April 21, with both King Charles and Queen Camilla set to lead the flurry of tributes to the late monarch on what would have been her 100th birthday.

Elizabeth and Philip’s deep, unwavering love was at the heart of the modern British monarchy and survived numerous scandals and disasters. Serving as a beacon of constancy and affection, the married couple remained together until the very end.

However, while their fairytale romance lasted more than seven decades, the key to their success was their evolving modernity, according to Mr Brandreth.

As the monarchy shifted with the times, both Elizabeth and Philip embraced leading an unprecedented ‘blended’ royal family – including overseeing their eldest son, now King Charles, divorcing Princess Diana and later re-marrying Queen Camilla.

‘Three of their children’s marriages ended in separation and divorce, but they accepted that and moved on,’ added Mr Brandreth.

‘Camilla became the Duchess of Cornwall and then the Queen and the family accepted that. All these things blended brilliantly.’

The late Queen and Prince Philip were a unified 'double act' who embraced the evolution of a blended Royal Family, according to a royal expert Gyles Brandreth

Following Philip’s tragic death, aged 99, on April 8, 2021, the heartbreaking scene of the late Monarch forced to sit alone at his funeral due to coronavirus restrictions was just a further demonstration of their commitment to the vows they shared 78 years ago – ’till death do us part’.

All throughout his life, the prince’s adoration for his wife and devotion to their marriage never wavered.

I know how the Queen REALLY felt about Meghan

Hi! I’m Richard Eden, Diary Editor and author of the Palace Confidential newsletter.

I have spent hours looking into what Meghan Markle’s relationship with the Queen was really like. And while I can tell you Meghan was welcomed with open arms, my sources have told me the Queen was very quickly concerned. Sign up here to read what I discovered

His desire to always do right by Elizabeth was perhaps most poignantly illustrated by a reflective conversation shared by his first ever private secretary, Michael Parker.

‘He told me the first day he offered me my job that his job, first, second and last was never to let her down,’ he recalled.

Charles and Camilla, who had both been married previously, opted for a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall followed by a religious blessing at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on April 9, 2005.

According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked within Charles’ household between 2004 and 2011, the late Queen was heavily involved in Charles and Camilla’s wedding planning.

He revealed that the late monarch organised important wedding details on the day, from the flowers to Charles and Camilla’s wedding rings, and even gave a comical speech at the newlywed couple’s reception.

The Queen and Prince Philip did not attend Charles and Camilla’s civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall, but they did join later for the religious blessing at St George’s Chapel.

Speaking on behalf of wedding directory Guides for Brides (guidesforbrides.co.uk), he said: ‘The biggest misconception about the wedding is that the Queen didn’t enjoy it or wasn’t supportive, it’s complete nonsense.

‘There was talk about whether she would attend the service but her appearance at the reception was a joyful one.

‘Her attendance and speech would have been seen as an olive branch to Charles and Camilla – her blessing of the marriage. The royals don’t do things lightly and she would have not attended if she hadn’t been happy to.

‘The Queen was amazing at the wedding, she gave a very funny speech, she was really happy as was Prince Philip. I can’t remember her exact words but she was funny. She compared their relationship to a Grand National horse race. She was a great comedian and had a way with words.’

As the monarchy evolved over time, both Elizabeth and Philip embraced leading an unprecedented 'blended' royal family - including overseeing their eldest son, now King Charles, divorcing Princess Diana and later re-marrying Queen Camilla

As the monarchy evolved over time, both Elizabeth and Philip embraced leading an unprecedented ‘blended’ royal family – including overseeing their eldest son, now King Charles, divorcing Princess Diana and later re-marrying Queen Camilla

Speaking about why the Queen didn’t attend the actual ceremony, Grant explained: ‘The Queen didn’t go to the actual Guildhall. The reason for that, we’re talking about 20 odd years ago, Charles was a divorcee.

‘So possibly the Queen felt that being a traditionalist, she didn’t want to be at the blessing for personal reasons because her faith was very strong. She certainly was at the blessing at St George’s Chapel.’

The ceremony was notably less lavish than King Charles’s wedding to Princess Diana in July 1981, which was held at St Paul’s Cathedral and watched by over 750 million people around the world.

Camilla wore a white silk dress with a scalloped trim, adding an elegant white tailored coat with a diamond feathered brooch.

Charles – then the Prince of Wales – was smart in a black long-line jacket and grey striped trousers.

The couple’s wedding ceremony was attended by their children from their previous marriages – Prince William, Prince Harry, Laura Lopes and Tom Parker Bowles.

In her Platinum Jubilee message to the nation, the monarch said it was her ‘sincere wish’ she should take the title. The Daily Mail revealed Queen Elizabeth gave her blessing to crown Camilla as Queen Consort years ago and that Charles came close to announcing it in 2019.

The Queen chose the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne to make the highly significant announcement and express her desire for Camilla to be fully acknowledged when Charles became King.

She told the nation: ‘When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me, and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.’

Camilla later said she felt ‘very honoured and very touched’ by the public seal of approval.

Tragic Turn: Triathlete’s Final Message Revealed Before Texas Ironman Drowning

0

Just two days before a tragic incident during an Ironman event in Texas, a Brazilian triathlete shared a poolside photo from her final training session. This promising athlete, who was also a popular influencer, tragically drowned during the competition.

At 38, Mara Flávia posted an image on Thursday, depicting herself poised at the pool’s edge, ahead of the fateful race that took place in The Woodlands on Saturday morning. This was a poignant moment before she disappeared during the open-water swim segment of the race.

Accompanying her photo, Flávia wrote in Portuguese “Just another day at work,” showcasing her in a coordinated pink swimsuit and cap. Her choice of music for the post was the upbeat track “Show Me Love” by Robin S, complete with hashtags like “triathlon,” “swimming,” and “triathlete.”

Her disappearance occurred during the initial leg of the Ironman event, an endurance challenge that spans 140 miles and tests athletes with a combination of swimming, cycling, and running.

Flávia vanished during an open-water swim in The Woodlands Saturday morning – the first of three grueling trials that competitors face during the 140-mile race.

Fire crews were told about a “lost swimmer” at around 7:30 a.m., one hour into the pro-female swim, KPRC reported.

Rescuers battled challenging visibility conditions before Flávia’s body was pulled from the water just after 9:30 a.m.

Montgomery County Sheriffs confirmed that the victim “drowned while participating in the swim portion of the event,” according to a statement. The office said its Major Crimes unit will continue the investigation “per normal protocols.”

Shawn McDonald, a volunteer, recounted the commotion before the swimmer’s body was recovered.

The dad, who volunteered with his daughter Mila, 12, said a group of younger volunteers in a kayak raised a flag and blew their whistles, “yelling for help.”

“I heard them say she went under,” he wrote on Facebook.

“I had Mila hand me the paddle and I started calling out to the athletes around us to stop so I could cross. I made my way over in about 30 seconds.

“When I got there and asked what happened, they all said the same thing: She went under. Right here. Right below us. The panic and fear on their faces won’t leave me for a long time.”

The volunteer recalled how one man had a “thousand-yard stare” on his face – before diving into the water in a desperate bid to find Flávia.

“I dove in immediately and began searching. After about a minute underwater, I felt her body with my foot. I surfaced, took what seemed like the deepest breath I have ever taken and went back down. She was gone.”

Boats with sonar combed the area – and McDonald was told to leave the water before the body was recovered.

“The victim was found in about 10 feet of water on the bottom of the lake,” Buck said. “The dive team accessed the victim, brought her up about 9:37 and then brought her over to the shore where she was pronounced DOS [deceased on scene],” Palmer Buck, the Woodlands fire chief, said.

It’s not known what caused the triathlete to go under the water.

Journalism grad Flávia previously worked in radio and television before pursuing a sporting career at age 28.

She previously twice won the Brazilian Grand Prix, and finished third in the Brasilia triathlon event.

Explore Dezi Freeman’s Legendary Shipping Container Hideout in Australia

Unsteady, watermarked footage taken from inside a shipping container rarely garners such a strong reaction.

This video, captured by a YouTuber and currently under scrutiny after a trespassing complaint, offers the public its first glimpse inside the shipping container itself.

Shirts presumably belonging to accused cop killer Dezi Freeman still hang by the door of the shipping container tucked away on a 35-hectare property in Victoria’s High Country. (The Chaos Chronicles/YouTube)

Shirts, believed to belong to the alleged cop killer Dezi Freeman, still hang by the entrance of the container, which is hidden on a sprawling 35-hectare property in Victoria’s High Country.

Nearby, an overturned boat bears bullet holes, a grim reminder of the shootout in which Freeman was fatally shot by police late last month.

The scene is chaotic, with a large pile of cushions, boxes, buckets, and shelves cluttered with items typically found in a shed.

But there are also signs of someone apparently living there: an old heater, blankets, a rice cracker box, Ugg boots and a stack of car batteries apparently hooked up to a generator and solar panels outside.

Methylated spirits, vitamins, a notepad and pen and some tissues sit on a table in the corner of the container.

In one wall there’s a huge hole apparently caused when the police BearCat pushed a nozzle through to gas Freeman out.

There’s an old brown couch, a hand-wound AM/FM radio, a stick blender hanging from a wall and a bunch of other stuff that can only really be described as rubbish.

YouTube channel The Chaos Chronicles published the video on April 16 and it has since racked up more than 60,000 views.

Victoria Police tonight confirmed it was investigating a report of trespass at the Murray River Road property in Thologolong on that date.

These images shot by a YouTuber are the first the general public has seen from inside the shipping container where Dezi Freeman was hiding. (The Chaos Chronicles/YouTube)

“Investigators are aware of a video posted online in relation to the trespass and are investigating the circumstances,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

“The investigation remains ongoing.”

The man in the video says he sent his drone up to have a look and was “sticking to the rules” but when it crashed on the property he decided to get it back.

“So obviously, after the drone crashed, I had to go in there to retrieve it, especially because it crashed right in a very dry tree,” he says.

“I was absolutely overwhelmed with concern that it might start a fire, so I had to go and retrieve the drone.”

He later adds: “We’re here getting the real footage now. Don’t worry about the drone footage.”

Police say Freeman killed Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart on a property in Porepunkah, about 90 kilometres south-east of Thologolong, in August last year.

He fled into the bush, sparking a massive manhunt that only came to an end with his death last month.

A date for an inquest is yet to be announced.

Tragic Explosion and Fire in Clinton County Claims Lives of Mother and Six Children

0

Tragedy struck in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, where a mother and her six children, aged between 3 and 11, lost their lives in a devastating house explosion and fire, officials reported.

Early Sunday morning, firefighters responded to reports of an explosion and subsequent fire in Lamar Township, Clinton County. Upon arrival, they confirmed that seven individuals were trapped inside the home, but the raging flames prevented any rescue attempts, according to a statement from the Pennsylvania State Police.

All seven individuals perished in the tragic incident. Authorities have identified the victims as 34-year-old Sarah Stolzfus, along with her four sons, aged 11, 10, 5, and 3, and her two daughters, aged 8 and 6.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Police have indicated the possibility of a propane leak within the house as a potential cause. However, they clarified that the external propane tanks did not explode and were not factors in the incident.

Neighbor Christina Duck recounted to WNEP-TV that she was having breakfast when the catastrophic event unfolded.

“And I heard a boom and I could feel it and I got up and looked out the window and I could see the flames through the windows and I come running outside and within a minute the whole house was completely engulfed,” Duck said.

The family moved in a couple of months ago, Duck said, noting that she often saw the children outside playing.

Victoria Beckham Confirms Business Unaffected by Buzz Surrounding Brooklyn’s Post

Victoria Beckham wears a brown top.

Victoria Beckham, a renowned figure in both the fashion and business worlds, recently addressed a personal controversy involving her family. Despite the storm stirred by her son Brooklyn’s public statement, she assured that her thriving business ventures remain unaffected.

Earlier this year, Brooklyn Beckham made headlines with a startling announcement about distancing himself from his parents, Victoria and David Beckham. This revelation drew considerable public attention and criticism towards the Beckhams, with many questioning their familial priorities.

Reflecting on the situation, Victoria expressed that while the family rift is undoubtedly challenging, her professional endeavors continue to flourish. Her ability to maintain focus on her business achievements amidst personal turmoil is a testament to her resilience and dedication.

Victoria Beckham said the Brooklyn Beckham drama hasn’t hurt her business

In Brooklyn’s statement, he accused his parents of prioritizing their brand over their family. He also accused his mother of dancing inappropriately at his wedding. Victoria said she and David have always tried to be the best parents they could be.

“I think that we’ve always — we love our children so much,” she told the Wall Street Journal. “We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”

Many people have found the details in Brooklyn’s statements, particularly the ones about Victoria, to be fascinating. Fans have continued to support Victoria, but some have slammed the Beckham parents. Victoria said that the backlash hasn’t damaged her fashion or beauty lines, though.

“I think that ultimately people are buying my product because the product is really good,” she said. “I don’t think they’re buying my eyeliner just because it’s me.”

In some ways, Victoria’s career even benefited from the scandal. She got her first solo No. 1 after her son posted his statement.

Trump Challenges Energy Secretary’s Prediction: Gas Prices Could Dip Below $3 Sooner Than Expected

In a recent conversation with The Hill, President Trump expressed his disagreement with Energy Secretary Chris Wright’s prediction regarding gas prices. Wright had suggested that prices might not fall below $3 per gallon until the following year, a view Trump firmly rejected.

“No, I think he’s wrong on that. Totally wrong,” Trump stated during a phone interview, directly challenging his energy chief’s outlook. When pressed for his own forecast on when gas prices might see a decline, the President linked the issue to the ongoing conflict with Iran, implying a resolution there could lead to lower prices.

Meanwhile, Secretary Wright, speaking to CNN on Sunday, highlighted the impact of shipping constraints in the Strait of Hormuz on gas prices. He indicated uncertainty about the timeline, noting, “I don’t know. That could happen later this year. That might not happen until next year.”

Wright told CNN on Sunday that gas prices may not drop below $3 until next year amid shipping restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.

“I don’t know. That could happen later this year. That might not happen until next year,” Wright said.

“But prices have likely peaked and they will start going down,” the secretary added. “Certainly, with a resolution of this conflict, you will see prices go down. Prices across the board on energy prices will go down.”

Wright’s comments were in stark contrast to comments from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent last week, in which he predicted gas prices could hit the $3 range this summer.

The global oil industry has been rocked by Iran’s restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, with gas prices in the U.S. rising to more than $4 for the first time since 2022 in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to AAA, the average price of gas in the U.S. sat at $4 on Monday morning.

Oil prices surged following the U.S. seizure of an Iranian vessel near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.

Brent crude, the international benchmark for oil, was up to around $94 on Monday, while West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. benchmark, was at roughly $88 per barrel.

The U.S. has been enforcing a blockade on all Iranian ports. Reuters reporting on Monday that Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir told Trump the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports is a hurdle to negotiations, and that Trump said he would consider Munir’s advice.

When asked about the report, Trump told The Hill that Munir “didn’t recommend anything on the blockade.”

“The blockade is very powerful, very strong. They lose $500 million a day with the blockade up,” Trump said, referring to Iran. “We control it. They don’t control it.”

Vice President JD Vance is set to lead the U.S. delegation to Islamabad to meet with Pakistani and Iranian negotiators. However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday that “no decision” has been made on whether to hold talks with the U.S.

Canadiens Edge Lightning 4-3 in Thrilling Overtime Victory in Game 1 Showdown

In a thrilling opener to their first-round playoff series, the Montreal Canadiens emerged victorious over the Tampa Bay Lightning, clinching a 4-3 win on Sunday night in Tampa, Florida. Juraj Slafkovsky was the star of the night, netting his third power-play goal just 1:22 into overtime.

Slafkovsky sealed the game with a sharp snap shot from the left circle, skillfully sending the puck past goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to claim his first career postseason hat trick. “It feels amazing,” Slafkovsky shared. “While we aim to avoid overtime and finish games strong in regulation, our focus now shifts to the next matchup.”

The series continues with Game 2 set for Tuesday night at Benchmark International Arena. The Lightning will be looking to break a troubling trend, having lost nine of their last ten home games during the postseason. Additionally, their overtime record in recent playoffs stands at a concerning 1-11.

Lightning coach Jon Cooper expressed his frustration following the game, citing four offensive zone penalties as critical errors. “Those weren’t due to over-aggression; they were simply foolish mistakes,” Cooper remarked. “This is the Stanley Cup playoffs, not just another regular-season game. It’s incredibly disappointing.”

“We took four offensive zone penalties,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “That wasn’t over-aggression. That was stupidity. This is the Stanley Cup playoffs. This isn’t game 62. That’s extremely disappointing.”

Josh Anderson also had a goal for Montreal, and rookie goalie Jakub Dobes made 20 saves.

“His style of play and energy and speed and physicality is perfect for playoff hockey,” Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki said of Anderson. “He had a big night for us.”

Brandon Hagel scored two goals and Darren Raddysh also scored for Tampa Bay.

The Lightning have been knocked out of the playoffs in the first round three straight seasons after falling two wins shy of a three-peat in 2022.

The Canadiens, coached by Lightning icon and Hockey Hall of Famer Martin St. Louis, are seeking their first Stanley Cup since winning their NHL record 24th in 1993. They haven’t won a playoff series since the Lightning beat them in the Cup Final in 2021.

Hagel’s power-play goal — a tip-in off a precise pass by Jake Guentzel 8:58 into the third — tied it at 3-3 a few minutes after Slafkovsky put Montreal ahead.

Slafkovsky’s shot from the high slot slid under Vasilevskiy’s left pad for a short-lived lead. He one-timed a perfect seam pass from Ivan Demidov into the net from the right circle to make it 2-2 in the final minute of the second.

Raddysh tied it at 1 with a powerful slap shot in the second. The Lightning went ahead 2-1 just 29 seconds later when Hagel picked up a loose puck from the side of the net and backhanded a shot past Dobes.

Montreal’s fourth line gave the Canadiens a 1-0 lead in the first when Anderson flipped a top-shelf shot into an open net.

Anderson also had a goal overturned by video review midway through the second period. He deflected Mike Matheson’s slap shot past Vasilevskiy but it was waved off because his stick was above the crossbar.

Unraveling ‘The Forsytes’ Episode 5: Irene’s Encounter with Philip Bosinney Sparks the True Drama

For those familiar with John Galsworthy’s classic tale, The Forsyte Saga, the new adaptation by PBS’s Masterpiece titled The Forsytes brings a fresh perspective to the timeless drama. Central to the story is a tangled web of love and betrayal, centered around a complex love quadrangle. The latest episode, Episode 5, finally ignites this explosive storyline with an unexpected encounter in a London park, setting the stage for the unfolding drama.

**Spoilers ahead for Episode 5 of The Forsytes on PBS’s Masterpiece, now available on PBS Passport**

In a poignant turn of events at the conclusion of Episode 5, Irene (played by Millie Gibson) comes to the harsh realization that her husband, Soames (portrayed by Joshua Orpin), is not the man she believed him to be. Her dreams of dancing in Paris are shattered after Soames deceives her about his father’s health to ensure she stays in London. To add insult to injury, Soames attempts to justify his actions by insisting that Irene should be grateful for the life he has provided her—a stark contrast to the man who once vowed to do anything to make her happy.

Heartbroken, Irene escapes the confines of her home and seeks solace in a nearby park. There, she unexpectedly encounters June Forsyte (Justine Moore) enjoying a carefree moment with her fiancé, Philip Bosinney (Jamie Flatters). Hoping to avoid the awkwardness, Irene tries to slip away unnoticed, but June enthusiastically calls her over, eager to introduce the two.

“I know you two are going to adore each other,” June bubbles with excitement, blissfully unaware of the storm that is brewing beneath the surface.

The primary drama that drives Galsworthy’s first Forsyte novel, A Man of Property, has to do with Soames Forsyte’s obsessive love for his wife Irene. Irene, on the other hand, feels stifled by Soames. As their marriage fractures, he begins to isolate her more and more, lavishing gifts she doesn’t want and essentially controlling her. In the midst of all this, Irene falls in love with June’s fiancé, Philip Bosinney. (DUN-DUN-DUN!) The last major adaptation of this story, 2001’s The Forsyte Saga, prominently leaned into the Soames (Damian Lewis)/Irene (Gina McKee)/Bosinney (Ioan Gruffudd) love triangle in its marketing.

When The Forsytes stars Millie Gibson and Joshua Orpin visited DECIDER’s studio recently, Gibson revealed why this momentous scene felt “method” for her to do.

“All of my scenes were just with Josh,” Gibson said. “Like I was barely seeing anyone else.”

“Nightmare,” Orpin quipped.

“Yeah, what a disaster,” she said sarcastically. “So I was like, Where’s Jamie (who plays Phil)? So I was really excited to meet him.”

“So to finally do a scene with him, it was, you know, it’s different energy. You’re getting used to a new actor’s presence, the way they work. And I mean, he’s the coolest guy.” Gibson turned to Orpin and said, “Sorry.”

“I’m the second coolest?” Orpin said.

“So, no, I had a lot of fun. And his character is like everyone’s favorite in the cast.” She once again turned to Orpin and said,”Sorry.”

“I’m the second favorite, I guess,” he said.

So how quickly will The Forsytes kick start this passionate new chapter? Or is this another storyline that showrunner Debbie Horsfield has plans to tinker with?

The Forsytes Season 1 is now streaming on PBS Passport. New episodes premiere on Masterpiece on PBS on Sunday nights.

Senate Republicans Anticipate Supreme Court Decision as Potential Game-Changer for Retaining Majority

0

Senate Republicans, concerned about the potential vulnerability of their three-seat majority in this year’s midterm elections, are quietly hoping for a pivotal moment—such as the retirement of conservative Justice Samuel Alito—that could energize Republican voters. This sort of “October surprise” could significantly alter their political landscape, drawing more GOP supporters to the polls.

While GOP senators are cautious not to pressurize Alito, a prominent conservative figure on the Supreme Court, into stepping down, they privately speculate that an announcement of his retirement in the fall might sway several key races in their favor.

They anticipate that such a development could provide a boost similar to the contentious confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, which played a significant role in the 2018 midterm elections.

Some Republican legislators are eager to address the challenge of confirming Alito’s successor this year, while they still hold a relatively secure 53-seat majority. Political analysts, however, predict that this advantage is expected to diminish following the November elections.

GOP senators are coming to terms with the possibility that Democrats might gain control of the Senate by 2027, even though it would require them to secure victories in traditionally Republican strongholds like Ohio, Alaska, Texas, or Iowa.

“If we did have a Supreme Court vacancy, obviously that would be a galvanizing issue for Republicans,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who is up for reelection in a battleground state.

Cornyn, a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said whether there’s a battle over a Supreme Court vacancy would depend entirely on Alito or any other justice contemplating retirement, but he added that “Alito’s been great” and emphasized, “I don’t give Supreme Court justices advice.”

Brian Darling, a GOP strategist and former Senate aide, said a Supreme Court confirmation fight before the election could be an “October surprise” that alters the political calculus of key Senate races.

“If there was a Supreme Court vacancy and there was a nomination battle going into October, it would have the whole agenda change,” he said.

Darling said a Supreme Court battle would “shift” the focus of Senate races and “may motivate MAGA voters to get reengaged and show up to vote.”

“An October surprise is when some issue comes up that people aren’t expecting that completely changes the debate,” he added. “That clearly is something that would be welcomed by the Trump administration going into the midterms.”

Republicans believe the vicious fight over Kavanaugh’s nomination in October of 2018 helped them increase their Senate majority by two seats in President Donald Trump’s first midterm election, the same year House Republicans lost 42 seats along with control of the lower chamber.

Two embattled Democratic incumbents, Sens. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), held slight leads over their Republican opponents heading into the confirmation fight but wound up losing. They both later blamed the high-profile battle over Kavanaugh for impacting their races.

“Up until the Kavanaugh stuff, we really weren’t seeing that enthusiasm on the Republican side,” McCaskill told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” after the election. “There was a double-digit difference in enthusiasm between the blue side and the red side of the equation in our state until Kavanaugh.”

“And then it popped up,” she said.

Senate Republicans also thought they were helped in the 2016 election by then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) decision to keep Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat vacant until after that year’s presidential election, making the contest between Trump and Hillary Clinton in part a referendum on the future direction of the Supreme Court.

Scalia died in February of 2016, and his successor, Justice Neil Gorsuch, wasn’t confirmed by the Senate until April of 2017, during Trump’s first term.

Some Republican senators would love to have another Supreme Court showdown before November.

They’re betting that Democratic colleagues angling for their party’s presidential nomination in 2028 could turn the confirmation battle into another political spectacle that drives GOP voters to the polls.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), another member of the Judiciary panel, said he’s “seen the articles” speculating about Alito’s announced retirement before the midterm election and noted that “the rumor started somewhere.”

“Depends on their health,” he said of the chances that Alito, who is 76, or conservative Justice Clarence Thomas, who is 77, may retire later this year.

“I don’t know where this rumor came from; it may well be true,” he said.

Senate GOP aides say they are taking the prospect of a potential vacancy seriously, even though they caution it’s difficult to know whether Alito or Thomas is truly contemplating retirement.

“It seems like it could happen,” said one senior Republican aide. “We’ll get somebody confirmed. The fight will be interesting.”

Republicans are growing increasingly nervous about the future of their Senate majority as polls show Trump’s approval rating has slid into the 30s.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report last week shifted four Senate races in Ohio, North Carolina, Nebraska and Georgia in Democrats’ direction.

Trump fueled speculation about a Supreme Court seat becoming vacant during a recent interview with Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo in which he said he’s ready to tap a new conservative to the bench.

“It could be two, could be three, could be one. I don’t know — I’m prepared to do it,” Trump said in the interview that aired Wednesday.

At the same time, Trump praised Alito as “one of the great justices of all time.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters that Senate Republicans would be able to quickly confirm a new justice, just as they did in 2018 and 2020, when liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died less than two months before the presidential election.

GOP senators are leery of publicly speculating about Alito’s future, given his popularity with Trump and the party’s MAGA base.

“I’m not getting into that, I’m not getting into that,” said Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.), another Judiciary Committee member, when asked whether it might make sense for Alito or Thomas to step down to ensure that Trump gets to fill the court’s next vacancy with a Senate GOP majority in power.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who is retiring at the end of the year, advised his colleagues to run on the accomplishments of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which enacted Trump’s tax cuts, instead of hoping for an October surprise to energize GOP voters.

“I think people are trying to do a redo of what Mitch McConnell [did with] the opening [of a seat] with the death of Scalia. I think that that could be a two-edged sword depending on the nominee,” he cautioned.

“We got a path to winning. It’s just about discipline and focusing on the tax provisions of HR. 1,” he said.

Sarah Ferguson Considers Participating in a £1.3 Million Revealing TV Documentary

0

Facing financial difficulties, Sarah Ferguson is contemplating a £1.3 million deal for a revealing documentary.

The former Duchess of York, who has faced public scrutiny, is currently staying at a lavish Austrian chalet costing £2,000 per night. During her stay, she is entertaining proposals from television and film producers in both the UK and the US.

Ferguson’s past interactions with Jeffrey Epstein have come to light, revealing embarrassing communications where she referred to him as her ‘supreme friend’ and likened him to the ‘brother I have always wished for.’

Back in 2010, she sent Epstein a message stating, ‘I am at your service. Just marry me.’

In another email, she mentioned waiting for her then 19-year-old daughter, Princess Eugenie, to return from what she described as a ‘shagging weekend.’

Other emails – which were all released in the Epstein Files – show her asking him for money.

The 66-year-old has insisted she was not aware of Epstein’s criminal behaviour and considers herself a ‘victim’ of the scandal. She has also defended her husband, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

Ms Ferguson is said to be ‘acutely aware’ of the impact any TV appearance would have on Eugenie and Beatrice, who remain members of the Royal Family. However, she is said to be open to the ‘right offer’.

Several broadcasters have expressed an interest in working with Fergie, with one American bid said to be worth $1.75m (£1.3m), according to The Mirror.

Her representatives have said she does not feel able to film in the States, given the public anger around the Epstein case.

Even so, a source previously told the Mail On Sunday that she may receive a more sympathetic audience across the pond.

‘Everyone knows Sarah has a compelling story to tell,’ they said. ‘America has always been more forgiving of her than Britain has.

‘When she and Andrew divorced, she spent all her time in the US giving interviews to Oprah Winfrey and others and making money from commercial deals like the one with Weight Watchers.

‘She’s an idiot but she’s a useful idiot. The appetite for anything Epstein-related isn’t abating.

‘She’s not been charged with anything and even though her emails to Epstein are excruciatingly embarrassing they don’t show any complicity in his crimes.

‘Several studios and streamers have already made substantial offers for her to sit down and tell what she knows.’

The former royal was finally spotted last week outside an eye-wateringly expensive wellness clinic in Austria, where she has been holed up.

It was the first public sighting of the disgraced former royal in four months since she attended the christening of her youngest granddaughter, just before new revelations emerged further linking her to the paedophile financier.

A relative who has been in contact with the disappearing ex-duchess during her self-imposed secret exile from British public life yesterday told the Mail what is behind her furtive behaviour – and why she wants to avoid being seen.

Martin Barrantes, a cousin by marriage, told us: ‘I have spoken to her [and] can tell you that she just wants to protect her children and her grandchildren.

‘We spoke around three months ago. I wanted to give her my support in a difficult moment for her with all that was going on with the Epstein Files.

‘Sarah is going through a difficult moment, and I wanted to send her our support, she is a valued member of our family.

‘Given the situation she seemed to be in good spirits.’

Fergie is said to remain ‘deeply troubled’ by her fall from grace and enforced removal from Royal Lodge.

She also faces continuing pressure from US lawmakers to come forward and testify about her and Andrew’s relationship with Epstein.

Friends say her self-imposed solitude in Austria has been helpful in ‘recalibrating’ her outlook on life.

One told Mail: ‘She is going through a process, taking time out to recalibrate.

‘Everything has gone: title, home, purpose, the lot. So, for these last weeks she has been trying to get her strength back and work out what she is going to do.

‘She’s not at the stage yet where she knows what the next steps will look like. It seems sensible not to break cover until she has some idea what shape her life is going to take.’

Fergie previously stayed at the Mayrlife resort on Lake Altaussee – which charges up to £6,700 for a two-week recuperative stay – two years ago, to recover after being diagnosed with a malignant melanoma.
