Suspect in Children’s Doctor Murder Freed After Earlier Home Break-In

0

The man accused of fatally stabbing a beloved children’s doctor as he slept beside his wife had already faced allegations that he broke into another Pittsburgh home months earlier. Despite that case, he was released back into the community in July.

Elijah Hemingway, 32, is charged with killing Dr. Idris Evans, 46, after allegedly entering the pediatric specialist’s family home through an open window.

According to police, Hemingway launched a violent knife attack in the Evans family’s bedroom shortly after 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators say he climbed through the window of the Edgewood, Allegheny County, home and went upstairs to the bedroom where Evans and his wife were sleeping.

Authorities have since revealed that Hemingway was already facing burglary and theft charges tied to an alleged February break-in at the home of a former partner.

Police did not arrest him in that case until July 9. He was released the next day, July 10, while the charges remained unresolved.

Investigators alleged that Hemingway entered the woman’s Overbeck Street home in Pittsburgh while she was taking her child to day care.

A laptop and two iPhones were reportedly taken from the property.

The woman told police that Hemingway had never lived at the residence and had no permission to enter it.

Hemingway was charged with burglary and theft by unlawful taking in connection with the alleged break-in, but he was ultimately released from custody as the case continued.

Records reviewed by Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. indicate that the February case was not Hemingway’s first encounter with law enforcement.

In Florida in 2025, Hemingway was accused of assaulting three sheriff’s deputies after allegedly causing a disturbance at a Wells Fargo bank.

Police said Hemingway left the bank and walked to the nearby Deltona Plaza Shopping Center, where he began making disturbing remarks.

According to authorities, he told one deputy that the officer was part of a simulation and later described himself as an Egyptian pharaoh.

He allegedly then fled on foot and jumped onto vehicles parked at the shopping center.

One deputy planned to have Hemingway evaluated under Florida’s Baker Act, which permits the involuntary detention of people who meet certain criteria for a mental health examination. But authorities said that when the deputy pursued him, Hemingway turned and punched the officer.

Additional deputies arrived and attempted to restrain him. Police alleged that Hemingway struck and shoved one deputy, pushed another and kicked a third.

Hemingway was charged and later pleaded no contest to battery of a law enforcement officer.

In another Florida case that year, Hemingway was accused of attacking an ex-girlfriend with whom he lived in Deltona.

During an argument, authorities alleged he repeatedly punched the woman and grabbed her by the neck.

The terrified woman told police she fled into a bathroom with her son, locked the door and called for help.

When deputies arrived, Hemingway allegedly refused to speak with them and insisted he had done nothing wrong.

A criminal complaint in that case noted that a records check revealed ‘multiple prior arrested for assault and aggravated assault in Pennsylvania with no prosecution.’

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala has also said authorities are investigating whether Hemingway could be connected to a sexual assault case in the county.

Meanwhile, Dr Evans’ killing has devastated his colleagues and neighbors.

The respected doctor was medical director of the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team at UPMC Children’s Hospital and an assistant professor of critical care medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

‘Dr. Evans was a dedicated caregiver and valued member of our hospital and university communities,’ UPMC said.

‘Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and colleagues during this difficult time. We ask that their privacy be respected.’

A heartbreaking GoFundMe page set up for Evans’ wife and their two young children paid tribute to the doctor remembering him ‘a father, a husband, a brother, a friend, and one of the best humans that I had the opportunity to know.’

‘If you were lucky enough to have ever met him, he probably made you laugh,’ the organizer, Neil Devani, wrote. ‘Unless you were one of his patients, in which case he probably saved your life… and made you laugh.’

The tribute told how Evans had spent more than a decade caring for some of the sickest children in and around Pittsburgh after choosing ‘one of the hardest paths in medicine’ – pediatric critical care.

As medical director of the Pediatric Transport Team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Evans also helped lead other doctors and medical professionals fighting to save children’s lives.

‘The choice to do that kind of work, subjecting yourself to the repeated heartbreak of losing children just to have the opportunity to save the ones you can, perfectly epitomizes the type of man that Idris Evans was,’ the tribute said.

‘He was the best of us.’

Away from the hospital, Evans was remembered as a devoted family man who was ‘full of jokes, a loving husband and father, and a great friend.’

Edgewood police acknowledged the shock rippling through the community following the brutal killing.

‘We are a small and close-knit community and we are sure that many of you may be feeling shaken today,’ the department said.

‘You may be sad, angry, anxious, distracted, or just having a hard time making sense of what happened.’

Evans’ wife told investigators she awoke to a nightmare: Hemingway, clad only in his underwear and allegedly wielding a kitchen knife, attacking the couple.

‘It was a very violent scene – the bedroom furniture broken, mirrors broken. It was a very graphic scene,’ Allegheny County Police Assistant Superintendent Victor Joseph said.

Evans and his wife desperately fought back, according to the criminal complaint.

His wife recalled her husband addressing their alleged attacker as ‘Elijah’ during the struggle, although investigators have said it remains unclear whether Evans and Hemingway knew one another or whether Hemingway had told him his name.

She also recalled the intruder making a bizarre reference to ‘being God.’

Despite suffering serious injuries herself, Evans’ wife managed to break free.

She screamed for the couple’s two children, aged eight and 12, to get out before escaping to a neighbor’s home and calling police.

Officers arriving at the house found Evans and his wife suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Both were rushed to hospital in critical condition, but doctors were unable to save Evans.

Hemingway was later discovered hiding behind a nearby home with injuries to his hand.

Neighbor Sandra Trappen said she woke to police flooding the normally quiet neighborhood before realizing the suspect they were hunting was concealed in her own backyard.

‘I was going to walk out in the backyard, and then all of the officers rushed through the backyard, so I just kind of stayed back,’ Trappen told WTAE.

‘Once they found him, he appeared to be bleeding and incapacitated,’ she added.

‘He had found a way to conceal himself, but apparently he was injured and bleeding.’

Hemingway was detained and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said he later claimed Evans had invited him to the house hours before the attack and alleged that the doctor and his wife attacked him.

Authorities said Hemingway could not provide details to substantiate that account.

He has been charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and criminal trespass.

Streamer Clavicular Charged in Rape, Drugging and Minor Alcohol Case

0

Influencer Clavicular has been charged in Massachusetts over allegations involving rape, drugging someone for sex and providing alcohol to a minor in Cape Cod, according to a newly published report.

The 20-year-old creator, whose legal name is Braden Peters, was charged on September 8 in connection with claims stemming from an alleged May 23, 2025 incident, according to court documents reviewed by the Daily Mail on Monday.

Court records show that Peters is scheduled to be arraigned on October 14 at 8:30 a.m.

The Bulwark, which first reported the charges, said Massachusetts victim-protection laws restrict the release of information that could identify the accuser.

Some elements of the criminal case, however, appear to overlap with allegations raised in a civil lawsuit Peters is facing in Florida.

Peters’ representative denied the accusations in a statement to the Daily Mail and alleged that the woman fabricated her claims.

“She files a lawsuit and doesn’t include sexual assault as a count. Then she amends it and adds it a couple of months later,” the representative said. “Clav then filed a motion to dismiss fighting the civil lawsuit because letter/text messages show she knew what was happening with the injections and he refused to pay money. She and her lawyer then go to police.”

The Daily Mail said it also contacted Peters’ attorney for comment but had not received a response.

Clavicular has been charged in Massachusetts over allegations of rape, drugging a person for sex and supplying alcohol to a minor in Cape Cod, according to a new report. He is pictured in February.

People close to Clavicular characterized the case as a “shakedown” in comments to TMZ and said they intended to fight the allegations “till the end.”

The woman identified in the allegations has not publicly commented on the case.

In the Florida civil lawsuit previously reviewed by the Daily Mail, she alleged that Peters wanted her to become the female face of “looksmaxxing,” a social media trend centered on maximizing physical appearance through extreme self-improvement techniques.

The complaint alleges that after the pair first met, Peters gave her alcohol until she appeared “visibly intoxicated.”

“Peters then had sex with [her] while she was knowingly intoxicated, to the point where she was unable to give consent,” the complaint stated. It further alleged that she woke up the following morning to Peters penetrating her while she was asleep, again without her consent.

The civil filing also alleges that, several months later, Peters injected the woman with Aqualyx during a livestream. The substance was described in the lawsuit as an “unapproved drug” that Peters allegedly intended to use to “melt fat on her cheeks” as part of his promise to support her online career through looksmaxxing.

According to the lawsuit, the woman believes the injection contained methamphetamine or another substance that was not disclosed to her.

The complaint states that the woman was under 18 at the time of the alleged events and legally considered a minor under Florida law.

She claims in the civil case that the injections caused severe emotional distress, trauma, humiliation, nightmares, fear, panic and mental anguish.

Additionally, the lawsuit noted that the alleged incident was livestreamed on the platform Kick.

The civil complaint said that she is suing Peters for battery, fraud and emotional distress, and she is seeking at least $50,000 in damages.

Clavicular appeared to address the issue in a series of posts on X on Monday, in which he wrote: ‘Trying to get my attention in anyway possible, a lawsuit? Seriously… really petty of you.’

The post was accompanied by a letter he appeared to insinuate the accuser sent him in which she thanked him for their collaboration; and a clip of her saying they had a ‘really fun’ time doing a stream, which Clavicular’s representative also sent to the Daily Mail.

He added in a subsequent post: ‘Lmao was literally trying to work at Bacara as a bottle girl… how about dont finance cars you cant afford.

‘Happens to all successful young men, people try to come for your money. Greed is evil.’

In the second post, he included what appeared to be a social media message in which she told him she had been working as a bottle girl and asked about his income, as well as a clip of her walking toward a pricey vehicle.

Peters had not directly denied the allegations, but in a post on X on April 29, he wrote: ‘The consistent theme of girls trying to use me for money is brutal for a young guy trying to navigate a complex society. Hopefully I can find a good girl whos [sic] intent is to not to screw me over and take my money.’

Peters’s attorney, Steve Kramer, told Rolling Stone in April of the civil lawsuit: ‘We are aware of the complaint recently filed against Mr. Peters.

‘These are allegations only and remain unproven. Mr. Peters denies the claims and disputes the characterization of events. He will respond through the appropriate legal channels and intends to vigorously defend himself.

‘We will not comment further at this time.’

Aqualyx is an injection made from the deoxycholate family of acids, which dissolve fat in the body. Plastic surgeons may inject the drug into the back, chin, hips, knees, stomach or thighs for contouring.

It’s meant to provide a non-invasive alternative to liposuction, a surgical procedure used to remove stubborn fat, but it is not approved by the FDA.

The agency said in 2023 that Aqualyx can contain phosphatidylcholine (PPC) and sodium deoxycholate (DC), which ‘pose a significant safety risk because they are unapproved, which means the FDA has not evaluated their safety or effectiveness.’

The FDA at the time said it had received reports about consumers experiencing adverse reactions such as permanent scars, infections, skin deformities, cysts and deep, painful knots after receiving unapproved fat-dissolving injections like Aqualyx.

Peters has drawn controversy in the past for methods such as hitting himself in the face with a hammer to make his bones grow back sharper and taking small amounts of methamphetamine to suppress his appetite.

Saints OC Klint Kubiak Says Superdome Is a ‘New Ballgame’

0

The Las Vegas Raiders have opened the season as one of the NFL’s most impressive teams through two weeks. The New Orleans Saints have been equally encouraging, however, creating a potentially difficult test for Las Vegas.

A major factor could be the deafening noise inside the Caesars Superdome.

Following the Raiders’ final practice of the week and ahead of their trip to New Orleans, Kubiak discussed the challenge of playing on the road inside the Superdome.

“You can prep them as much as you want, but once you get there to an environment like that, it’s a whole new ballgame,” Kubiak said. “It’s a great environment to play.”

Both the Raiders and Saints have considerably more reason for optimism than they have had at any point over the past four seasons.

Las Vegas is 2-0 for the first time since 2021. New Orleans, meanwhile, is coming off an impressive 24-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens after nearly securing an overtime victory against the Detroit Lions in Week 1.

Much of the Saints’ early success can be attributed to second-year head coach Kellen Moore and quarterback Tyler Shough.

Through the opening weeks of the season, Shough has passed for 662 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

With the Saints playing improved football, Kubiak expects their fan base to create a difficult atmosphere for the Raiders on Sunday.

“That’s what makes the NFL so fun is environments like this,” Kubiak said.

The Raiders’ early success has also been built on several of the same foundations driving New Orleans’ strong start.

Kubiak, in his first season as an NFL head coach, has introduced a fresh and dynamic approach to play-calling that is producing results for Las Vegas.

Four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins has also started quickly, completing 67.8% of his passes for 413 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Raiders’ offseason focus on strengthening the offensive line is beginning to pay off. Highly sought-after free-agent center Tyler Linderbaum and Spencer Burford have helped improve the unit up front.

Second-year running back Ashton Jeanty has also become a bigger part of the offense. He has rushed for 150 yards while adding 10 receptions for 60 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

Trump Administration to Remove 760,000 ACA Enrollees Over Fraud Claims

0

WASHINGTON – Vice President JD Vance and other Trump administration officials said Tuesday that roughly 760,000 people will be removed from Affordable Care Act insurance marketplaces after officials determined they were either enrolled through fraudulent applications or could not be verified as real individuals.

Vance said halting subsidy payments linked to those enrollments is expected to save the federal government approximately $2.2 billion.

“We’re actually making sure that the people receiving Obamacare subsidies are actually entitled to receive them,” Vance said Tuesday during remarks at the White House. Vance, who heads a government-wide effort targeting fraud, appeared alongside Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz and other administration officials.

The administration also announced a six-month pause on allowing new insurance brokers to enroll marketplace customers. Officials said brokers account for a disproportionately large share of the fraudulent activity identified in the review.

The move is part of a broader Trump administration campaign against alleged fraud nationwide, including within federal healthcare programs. Officials argue that tighter oversight is necessary to curb government spending and protect taxpayers.

The announcement arrives as inflation and escalating healthcare expenses add pressure on the administration to offer Americans a strategy for lowering costs before the midterm elections.

ACA coverage has become significantly more expensive for many Americans during President Donald Trump’s second term. Republicans opposed extending the enhanced subsidies created during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had reduced insurance costs for many marketplace customers during President Joe Biden’s administration.

After the Republican-led Congress permitted those subsidies to expire this year, premiums doubled or even tripled for some enrollees. Millions responded by switching to less comprehensive plans or abandoning marketplace coverage altogether.

About 19.2 million people were enrolled in ACA marketplace health plans as of early 2026, according to information posted by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The White House directed The Associated Press to Vance’s office for further details about the administration’s broader plans to make healthcare more affordable.

The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the administration’s plan to remove the ACA enrollees from the public insurance exchanges.

The 5 Best The Office Episodes That Don’t Feature Michael Scott

0

For many fans of “The Office,” the series has a clear before-and-after divide: Michael Scott’s (Steve Carell) tenure as the driving force of the comedy and the era that followed his exit. Once Michael left, the Scranton branch lost a chaotic presence that was nearly impossible to replace. The show continued, but something undeniably changed.

Michael’s painfully awkward behavior was only one of the show’s defining elements. “The Office” also built much of its early appeal around Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam’s (Jenna Fischer) long-running will-they-or-won’t-they romance. By the time the couple married and started a family, that central storyline had reached its natural conclusion. Michael’s Season 7 farewell, “Goodbye Michael,” made the series feel as if it had delivered its final major statement — yet it carried on for two additional seasons.

Of course, “The Office” produced both triumphs and misfires throughout its entire run. Michael appeared in plenty of weaker episodes, but the show’s shortcomings became more noticeable after his departure. Some viewers may choose to stop watching at that point, though the remaining seasons still contain several genuine highlights. In fact, a handful of excellent episodes prove that “The Office” could succeed without Michael Scott. The problem was that not every post-Michael story made equally good use of the ensemble.

Dwight K. Schrute, (Acting) Manager (Season 7, Episode 24)

With Michael gone, Dunder-Mifflin’s Scranton office needed a new manager. After years of anticipation, Dwight (Rainn Wilson) finally takes the job — and wastes no time transforming into a near-dictatorial boss in one of the character’s strongest episodes. His reign takes an unexpected turn when he accidentally fires a gun beside Andy’s (Ed Helms) ear, prompting the staff to blackmail him in exchange for keeping quiet.

The episode succeeds because it changes the workplace dynamic without losing sight of who these characters are. Watching Dwight become intoxicated by authority is hilarious, but the story wisely pivots before his power trip grows repetitive. Once Dwight finds himself under pressure and forced to defend his position, the premise gains a fresh second act.

The episode also sneaks in some sharp commentary about workplace hierarchy. Without a manager constantly interfering, Dunder-Mifflin operates surprisingly well: Employees arrive, complete their jobs, and go home. It might have been interesting to see the series explore a manager-free office for longer, especially since that approach could have created more room for supporting characters. Still, the show seemed to understand that Dwight’s leadership would quickly become exhausting, so he relinquishes the position after a single episode.

The List (Season 8, Episode 1)

Season 7 concludes with a star-studded search for Michael’s successor, eventually introducing Robert California (James Spader) as Dunder-Mifflin’s new force of authority. He could not be more different from Michael. Michael craved approval and routinely embarrassed himself trying to win people over; Robert is composed, intimidating, and carries an unsettling hint of sociopathy.

Not every later episode knew what to do with Robert California, and viewers remain divided over the character. Still, “The List” provides an effective showcase for his appeal. Robert maintains a mysterious document that places employees into two columns, repeatedly shifting their names and sending the office into a panic. The confusion continues until he finally explains that the list separates the “winners” from the “losers.”

Robert is intentionally strange, which helps explain why some fans rank him among the show’s worst bosses. But “The List” demonstrates the best way to use him: Let the other characters attempt to decode his behavior while the story remains centered on the ensemble. The series deserves credit for taking a bold turn with California instead of settling for another Michael clone like Deangelo Vickers (Will Ferrell). Although much of Season 8 struggled to find its footing, the premiere offered a promising and distinctive start.

Tallahassee (Season 8, Episode 15)

After Michael’s departure, the series needed to disrupt its familiar routines, and Season 8 does that with a storyline that sends several employees to Florida for a special project. The new setting opens up different character combinations while preserving some classic office humor. Jim, for example, still finds time to torment Dwight by staging a murder in his hotel room and leaving behind evidence designed to make Dwight look guilty.

Even after suffering appendicitis, Dwight refuses to slow down in Florida because he wants to prove to Nellie Bertram (Catherine Tate) that he is qualified to be her vice president. Meanwhile, Andy takes over receptionist duties in Pennsylvania and discovers that he genuinely enjoys the role. This is where the post-Michael version of “The Office” works best: It introduces unusual situations without abandoning the character relationships that made the show popular. Whether Dwight is in Scranton or Florida, he remains determined to outperform everyone around him, regardless of the consequences.

“Tallahassee” also earns its place by introducing one of Season 8’s most memorable variations: Florida Stanley (Leslie David Baker). Stanley is usually defined by his gruff, disengaged attitude, but away from the office, he appears to be having the time of his life. Florida feels like a vacation from both Dunder-Mifflin and his family, revealing a surprisingly carefree side of the character. It’s one of the season’s best jokes — and a version of Stanley viewers wish the show had explored more often.

Work Bus (Season 9, Episode 4)

By Season 9, “The Office” was clearly approaching the end of its run, but episodes such as “Work Bus” showed that the series could still deliver its old spark. Jim tricks Dwight into evacuating the office so he can take Pam on a much-needed outing, especially as his part-time job in Philadelphia begins putting strain on their relationship. Dwight, however, responds by renting a bus and moving the entire workplace onto the road instead of allowing everyone to take the day off.

Season 9 places considerable pressure on Jim and Pam, with Jim’s new job creating distance and conflict between them. In “Work Bus,” though, Jim’s intentions are sincere: He wants to take Pam out for pie. The episode’s quieter tone feels welcome amid the season’s heavier relationship drama. It also delivers plenty of memorable comedy, including Kevin’s (Brian Baumgartner) revelation that he can solve complicated math problems only when pie is part of the equation. Creed (Creed Bratton) also attempts to escape work, only to wind up on the very bus Dwight has rented.

One detail many viewers may have missed is that the episode was directed by Bryan Cranston, best known for starring in “Breaking Bad.” Cranston demonstrates a strong visual sense, steadily increasing the tension as the cramped bus becomes unbearable for the employees. Given his experience filming inside an RV, working within the confines of a bus may have felt almost familiar.

A.A.R.M. (Season 9, Episodes 22 and 23)

Michael Scott would return in “The Office” finale for Dwight’s wedding, but fans were treated to a mini-finale before the proper one with the two-parter “A.A.R.M.” It’s here where we see many plot threads start getting wrapped up, like Dwight learning he’s the biological father of Angela’s (Angela Kinsey) child. Plus, “A.A.R.M.” sees Jim finally give Pam the teapot he intended to give her in the Season 2 episode “Christmas Party,” along with the note that was supposed to be inside. It’s a beautiful payoff and a good way to get things back on track for a great finale.

Season 9 mostly saw Jim and Pam’s relationship in a state of flux after Jim pursued a new career. It really seemed like “The Office” may have been planning to break this couple up. But “A.A.R.M.” reaffirms their love toward one another. We saw them flirt with one another, get together, get married, have children, venture into rocky territory, but realize there’s no one else the two of them would rather be with.

The final two seasons of “The Office” are tough. No one would blame most viewers for simply ignoring them and simply skipping to the finale. But these are characters we love, and they should be allowed to have a bad day every now and then. There are still good episodes of “The Office” without Michael Scott that show he was never the only thing about the sitcom that worked. The real power was the combined efforts of everyone involved.

Ruby Rose Breaks Down Over Best Friend Hayden Panettiere’s Death

0

Ruby Rose became emotional as she paid tribute to her “best friend,” Hayden Panettiere, following the American actress’s death at the age of 36.

The 40-year-old Australian actor spoke with Entertainment Tonight about her deep friendship with the Heroes star before attending Panettiere’s celebration of life at Malibu Pacific Church on Saturday.

Fighting back tears, Rose struggled to speak about her loss. “I don’t know if I can… sorry, no one’s asked yet,” she told reporters. “That was my best friend. We spoke every day for five years. I never even imagined we would become friends.”

Rose said she had initially been wary of forming friendships with other celebrities after having difficult experiences in the entertainment business. “I didn’t know if I wanted to have any celebrity friends,” she explained. “Then I saw her, she saw me, and I remember thinking, ‘Oh, no.’”

She recalled that Panettiere approached her despite her hesitation and introduced herself.

“She ran up anyway and said, ‘Hey, I’m Hayden. Can we go somewhere and talk? We’ve got a lot in common,’” the John Wick: Chapter 2 star remembered. “I just laughed and thought, ‘What?’”

Panettiere later told Rose that she had responded, “I don’t think so,” although Rose believes she simply laughed. The pair soon began talking and discovered how much they had in common.

Rose warmly reflected on the five-year friendship they built, during which they texted each other daily and regularly made sure the other was doing well.

“It’s a bigger group now. There are 14 of us that we’ve gathered over the years. That’s my family. I don’t have a real family, so,” Rose said.

She added that Panettiere’s greatest wish had been to tell her own story in her own words and on her own terms.

Rose attended the memorial alongside Paris Hilton, Evan Ross, Jonathan Jackson and Lennon Stella.

According to TMZ, Panettiere’s former Nashville co-stars Connie Britton and Charles Esten were also among those who attended the celebration of life.

A source told the publication that the gathering was both “emotional and beautiful,” beginning with the release of doves outside the church.

Roughly 150 mourners then went inside, where a band had been arranged and Britton and Esten delivered tributes.

Few people have been photographed as often as Cindy Crawford, one of the defining figures of the supermodel era.

On the catwalk and across the covers of magazines including Vogue, she has long possessed an effortless ability to command attention.

That made the advertising campaign she appeared in last spring all the more poignant. Crawford was photographed alongside her husband, Rande Gerber, and their children, Kaia and Presley.

The family was promoting an American activewear brand, smiling in the sunshine and laughing as they played together on the beach.

What made the images so affecting was seeing Crawford not as the celebrated supermodel, but as a proud mother quietly supporting what may be her greatest achievements: her children.

In an accompanying YouTube film, Crawford embraces her model daughter Kaia, who bears a striking resemblance to her, with the Pacific Ocean glistening behind them.

For Cindy Crawford, who celebrated her milestone 60th birthday this year, the loss of her son Presley echoes that suffered by her own mother Jennifer, 50 years earlier

The film also shows her resting her head against her son Presley’s. His sharply defined features made him instantly recognisable as her firstborn.

Now, that intimate portrait of a close family unafraid to express its love has become a deeply painful reminder of a life cut tragically short.

Presley Gerber, 27, followed his mother into modelling. In recent years, however, he had spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse. He died on Sunday in Los Angeles.

He had entered a rehabilitation centre only hours earlier. His cause of death has yet to be determined, although a drugs overdose is strongly suspected.

The loss will leave his mother, father and younger sister, 25, facing unimaginable grief. His sister’s name was tattooed on his left arm.

For Crawford, who turned 60 this year, the death of her son recalls the devastating loss suffered by her own mother, Jennifer, half a century earlier.

Crawford grew up in Illinois as the middle of three sisters. She was only ten when her younger brother, Jeffrey, died from leukaemia at the age of four after being ill for two years.

A family friend told the Daily Mail this week: ‘Cindy has never fully got over her only brother’s death. She talks about it and it still haunts her.’

In a 2024 podcast appearance, the model discussed the loss and the survivor’s guilt she carried, especially because she and her sisters understood how deeply their father, John, had wanted a son.

Crawford has spoken about her loss and the survivor’s guilt she felt, knowing how much her father, John, had longed for a son. She is pictured with husband Rande Gerber and Presley.

Poignantly, she also spoke of how the birth of her own children had shaped her perspective of that loss (Kaia and Presley are pictured during their childhood)

She also poignantly explained how becoming a mother herself changed her perspective on that earlier loss. Kaia and Presley are pictured during their childhood.

Now Cindy faces the enormity of a loss she never wanted to imagine but must, surely, have feared during the turbulent journey her adored son had endured in recent years

Poignantly, she also spoke of how the birth of her own children had shaped her perspective of that loss.

‘When I had my first kid [Presley], I called my mom, and I was like: ”How did you survive?” she said. ‘Because you can’t imagine losing a child until you have a child, and even then, you don’t want to imagine it.

‘I remember her saying: ‘Well, I had three other kids looking at me to lead them through this.’

‘I think that because of us, she got out of bed and just did what she had to do.’

Now Cindy faces the enormity of a loss she never wanted to imagine but must, surely, have feared during the turbulent journey her adored son – the little boy who would cry when hair and make-up artists arrived at home ‘because he knew it meant mommy was leaving for work’ – had endured in recent years.

She also faces comforting her daughter in a grief so familiar.

They are all broken, but Kaia is, we are told, her pressing concern.

‘Suddenly she’s an only child,’ says the family friend. ‘She’s lost her brother who she loved so much.

‘While Kaia has lots of friends and a boyfriend who is there for her, Cindy is deeply worried how Presley’s death will affect her in the long run.

‘She believes from her own experience that it will stay with her for life. How could it not?’

Presley, or Prez as he was known, was born in 1999, a year after Cindy’s marriage to Rande, 64, who along with family friend George Clooney is the co-founder of tequila brand Casamigos.

Presley was a young athlete, spending hours in the water ¿ school surf team, water polo, swim squad. 'The strongest addiction I ever had was surfing and being in the ocean,' he once said

As Cindy wrote in her autobiography Becoming: ‘There was never any doubt in my mind that I wanted to have children.

‘It didn’t happen right away though. Finally, after several months, I got the smiley face on the stick. We were overjoyed.’

She had Presley at home.

‘I woke up at 2am on the morning of July 2 and 17 hours later I was in bed with my husband and my new baby boy. Pure bliss.

‘Presley Walker Gerber entered our world that day and I became a mother. It was the hardest, most challenging thing I’ve done. It was also the most rewarding.’

Two years later Kaia arrived.

‘Becoming a parent and learning to love a child are probably the most selfless things a person can do,’ Cindy added. ‘I hope that I can for ever be a source of unconditional love to my children – just like my mom was for me.’

There were, she admitted, times she missed events, but she strove to be a present mum.

Presley was a young athlete, spending hours in the water – school surf team, water polo, swim squad. ‘The strongest addiction I ever had was surfing and being in the ocean,’ he once said.

But the seeds of a lifelong battle with his mental health were sown early. By the time he was signed, aged 15, by IMG models (his sister, then 13, was signed at the same time), he was already taking the antidepressant Prozac.

Diagnosed at the time with both attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder – Presley would later say diagnoses were thrown around ‘like candy’ – the progression into drug dependence began.

Drugs to suppress, drugs to stimulate, drugs to help him sleep, for anxiety, for depression. On and on it went.

There was a whirl of global travel. He walked the catwalk for Italian label Moschino aged 16, appeared in a Calvin Klein campaign with Kaia, graced the cover of GQ. It was glossy and exciting.

‘I remember within the first week of signing, I’m like in New York, people are taking pictures of me, shirt off. My whole life changed within a month,’ he later reflected. ‘I had to grow up quickly.’

But there was another side to it all.

In 2019 he was charged with driving under the influence and sentenced to three years’ probation. The following year he had the word ‘Misunderstood’ tattooed across his face.

‘It says misunderstood because that’s how I felt my entire life,’ he said in an interview. He later had it removed.

In the last three years, Presley had begun to share his experiences on Instagram, creating a series of video diaries entitled Mental Health Mondays in which he documented the drugs, the depression, rehabilitation and the more alternative and holistic therapies.

The videos are articulate, earnest and painfully frank. His Instagram profile reads ‘Be Kind’. Kaia reflected on her brother’s struggles and his confessional approach in an interview with Vogue, published just a month before his death.

‘When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,’ she said. ‘I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.’

She reflected, too, on her brother’s willingness to share his experiences. ‘There’s only so much you can hide from the world,’ she said. ‘And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.’

Presley’s posts, however, stopped late last year.

‘I had to step back and take care of my own mental health for a bit. But I’m coming back soon — stronger, clearer, more intentional than ever,’ he wrote in November.

And then, in March, he shared the news that he had been in Mexico, undergoing experimental treatment with Ibogaine, a psychedelic drug used to treat substance dependence, which is illegal in the US but legal in Mexico.

This week, the Daily Mail spoke exclusively to holistic healing coach Jessica Salter, from Long Island, who was at the Beyond clinic in Cancun at the same time as Presley, having also signed up for Ibogaine treatment.

Jessica says: ‘I went to the clinic because I wanted to work through some pain that I was carrying and Ibogaine piqued my interest.’

She doesn’t want to reveal too much of what she shared with Presley but says: ‘He was a very sweet person. He was very open about why he was there. Everybody liked him.’

They were part of a group of 15 to 20 guests who shared workshops, talked and ate together in the communal dining area. ¬Presley didn’t hide his identity.

Jessica said: ‘One of the most profound moments I had was to be with someone like Presley, with all his resources, and to be with someone else from a tiny little town, who had never travelled anywhere before and never really done anything.

‘They were both in the same place and both had things they needed help with.

‘It was just such a true illustration of the fact that there is no rhyme or reason to it [addiction]. Everybody deserves the same level of compassion and empathy. Everybody just wants to be free from pain.’

Jessica’s seven-hour experience with the psychedelic drug was ‘very intense’ but, she says, it helped her with the emotional issues she had been having.

She left the day Presley was due to have his ‘flood dose’ – the maximum amount of pure Ibogaine Hydrochloride (HCl) administered to a patient seeking to eliminate or interrupt addiction and stop withdrawal symptoms.

The knowledge of Presley’s death weighs heavy. ‘It’s just very, very sad,’ says Jessica. ‘Especially when you read about how much he struggled and how long he tried [to beat his addictions].

‘But he took some of the shame and stigma away from it by being so upfront and putting it out into the open. That was brave of him.’

As is often the way when a life lived under the spotlight is cut short, speculation has been rife this last week.

Presley was reportedly being prescribed ketamine by a doctor, despite his ongoing struggles.

Ketamine is the same drug that was listed as a contributing cause of Matthew Perry’s death in 2023.

What drugs may or may not have been in Presley’s system will become clearer as police and medical examiners complete their investigations.

How tragic that just a few months ago, in June, Presley glowed as he stood, arms around both parents, at a fundraiser in which he was participating in a candid panel discussion about mental health.

‘The most free I felt was when I was finally honest with myself,’ he told the audience.

That his parents were there, supportive as ever, was no surprise.

Celebrity photographer Katie Levine, who photographed Presley several times, tells the Daily Mail: ‘I’ve been sober for ten years and I was always cheering him on.

‘I felt like his parents and his sister were always there for him, giving him a lot of support. He was very proud of his roots.’

She remembers a young man full of promise.

‘He was outspoken and fun and not at all serious. I think he was the boy version of Cindy, super-handsome and the camera loved him.’

Will Beck, a financial planner from Utah, met Presley through business in 2021.

He remembers the pride Presley had in his sister, his admiration for his father (whose business success he was so keen to replicate), and the love of his family.

‘His mom was one of the greatest supermodels, but he grew up with fame and wasn’t impressed by it,’ he says, talking exclusively to the Daily Mail.

‘He just thought of her as his mom. I think they were a genuine, loving family.

‘There’d been multiple times I could see he was struggling, and I’d reach out to him and tell him a lot of people had his back.

‘It sucks that he had so many demons, but he said addiction was part of his life. He’d fall back into it, and his parents would try to help him. I know he wanted to beat it and just couldn’t.’

Back in LA, for the Gerbers there is heartache.

‘From the outside people thought Cindy had been living the perfect life,’ says the family friend. ‘It looked like she had it all. Money, fame, beauty and a solid marriage. But sadly there was a great deal of heartache behind it.

‘Like the loss of Cindy’s brother, the one consolation the family has is that Presley is no longer suffering. However, what he’s left behind is a heartbroken family who will never be able to fully heal. There will always be that one missing piece.’

The Office: 5 Best Jim and Pam Episodes, Ranked

0

Slow-burn romances were once a defining feature of network television, when long seasons gave relationships plenty of time to develop. Viewers watched couples such as Sam and Diane on “Cheers” and Rachel Green and Ross Geller on “Friends” move through years of longing, setbacks and emotional breakthroughs. On Greg Daniels’ American adaptation of “The Office,” which aired on NBC from 2005 to 2013 across nine seasons and 201 episodes, that tradition belonged unmistakably to Pam Beesly and Jim Halpert. Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski played the pair from the show’s opening episode through its finale.

When Jim and Pam are introduced, Jim is a dissatisfied salesman at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch, while Pam is the overworked receptionist engaged to warehouse employee Roy Anderson. Both spend their days trying to navigate the chaos created by their well-meaning but hopelessly inept boss, Michael Scott (Steve Carell), and Jim’s eccentric sales colleague Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson). Over the course of “The Office,” Jim and Pam fall in love, face painful obstacles, marry, raise two children and weather further challenges that ultimately strengthen their relationship. Fischer and Krasinski’s effortless chemistry helped make Jim and Pam one of television’s most beloved couples.

But which episodes capture their romance at its funniest, sweetest and most emotional? From an unexpected kiss to a heartfelt confession and a wedding that goes gloriously off the rails, these are the five best Jim and Pam episodes of “The Office,” ranked.

5. The Dundies (Season 2, Episode 1)

The first season of “The Office” gets off to a shaky start. Its pilot closely follows the British original, a choice that makes the American adaptation feel stiff at first. Still, the six-episode season finds its footing by the end. Remarkably, the series began as a midseason replacement before growing into one of NBC’s biggest hits. Season 2 is where the show truly hits its stride, beginning with “The Dundies,” in which Michael forces the Scranton staff to attend his annual awards ceremony at Chili’s. Pam typically receives the “Longest Engagement” award because of her seemingly endless engagement to Roy, while temporary employee Ryan Howard is bewildered when Michael names him “Hottest in the Office.”

Roy skips the ceremony, but Pam attends — and becomes extremely drunk as the evening unfolds in a corner of the restaurant, amid heckling from other diners. The night takes an unexpectedly important turn for Pam and Jim. The pair defend Michael against the crowd, and Pam is thrilled when she receives “Whitest Sneakers” instead of “Longest Engagement,” a change Jim had suggested to spare her further embarrassment. In her drunken excitement, Pam kisses Jim on the mouth, catching him off guard but clearly making him happy. The episode’s final joke is just as memorable: Pam is banned from every Chili’s restaurant for life.

4. Casino Night (Season 2, Episode 22)

Season 2 is widely regarded as “The Office” at its finest, and its two bookend episodes feature major turning points for Jim and Pam. In the finale, “Casino Night,” Michael throws an elaborate casino-themed fundraiser in the warehouse, ignoring HR representative Toby Flenderson’s objections that the event combines gambling, alcohol and Hooters catering under the banner of a children’s charity. Michael also invites both of his romantic prospects: his realtor, Carol Stills (played by Steve Carell’s real-life wife, Nancy Walls Carell), and his boss, Jan Levinson (Melora Hardin). Naturally, he is completely overwhelmed when both women arrive.

Meanwhile, Pam is preparing to marry Roy, who finally sets a wedding date midway through the season. As Jim helps her review videos of potential wedding bands, his desperation to avoid watching the woman he loves marry someone else becomes increasingly obvious. After admitting in a confessional that he is considering transferring to the Stamford, Connecticut, branch, Jim finally breaks down when Roy storms out of the party. He tells Pam that he loves her. She initially rejects him because she is engaged, but the episode’s closing moments reveal how conflicted she really is. After speaking with her mother by phone, Pam spots Jim in the office, and the two share a passionate kiss before the Season 2 credits roll.

3. Weight Loss (Season 5, Episodes 1 & 2)

By Season 5, Jim and Pam are happily together, but their relationship faces a difficult test. Pam is rethinking her career and enrolls in a graphic design program in New York City, leaving Jim in Scranton. The two-part premiere, “Weight Loss,” centers on a company-wide effort to shed pounds in exchange for extra vacation days, but the real emotional focus is the distance between Jim and Pam. They spend their days in different states, communicating online as often as possible while Jim struggles with her absence.

Then, on a rainy day, Jim impulsively asks Pam to meet him at a gas station halfway between Scranton and New York City. Seen from a distance through the documentary crew’s cameras, Pam arrives to find Jim waiting beside the pumps. He drops to one knee and pulls a ring from his pocket. The proposal is spontaneous, tender and completely in character — one of the most romantic Jim and Pam moments in the entire series.

2. The Job (Season 3, Episodes 24 & 25)

Season 3 begins with Jim working at the Stamford branch and Pam trying to rebuild her life in Scranton after breaking up with Roy. When Stamford closes because of Dunder Mifflin budget cuts, Jim returns to Scranton with colleagues Karen Filippelli (Rashida Jones) and Andy Bernard (Ed Helms). By then, however, he is dating Karen.

That arrangement changes during the two-part finale, “The Job.” Michael, Jim and Karen all apply for a corporate position in New York after speaking with CFO David Wallace (Andy Buckley). Jim and Pam’s relationship has already begun shifting: during “Beach Games,” Pam admits that she misses their friendship, while Jim unexpectedly confesses how he feels about her. Karen senses the danger and tells Jim that they have no future together in Scranton, clearly hoping they will both relocate to New York regardless of who gets the job.

The interview process quickly descends into chaos. Michael and Jan are trapped in a deeply unhealthy relationship, and the corporate position turns out to be Jan’s job — one she is about to lose because of her erratic behavior. Jim appears to impress David, but then spots a small gift Pam has left in his sales reports: a medal fashioned from a yogurt lid, a callback to “Office Olympics” and a good-luck gesture. Jim abandons the interview, returns to Scranton and asks Pam out while she is filming a confessional. When she turns back toward the camera with tears of happiness in her eyes, the moment is quietly unforgettable.

1. Niagara (Season 6, Episodes 4 & 5)

After Jim proposes in the Season 5 premiere “Weight Loss,” viewers finally see the couple’s wedding in the two-part Season 6 episode “Niagara.” As expected, the ceremony is anything but simple. Jim and Pam discover during Season 5 that they are expecting a baby and try to keep the news from Pam’s extended family until after the wedding. Michael is not the one who gives away the secret; Jim does it himself during a toast at the rehearsal dinner.

The problems continue on the wedding day. Pam is upset when her pregnancy becomes obvious beneath her dress, Jim cuts off half his tie to push back against the pressure for perfection, and Pam’s veil is torn. Jim responds with a perfectly romantic escape, taking Pam to Niagara Falls, where a ship captain marries them. “Niagara” aired around the time that the viral “JK Wedding Dance” video was circulating online. In the episode, Jim says he booked their tickets the moment he saw it. Sure enough, when the couple reaches the church, the entire Dunder Mifflin staff recreates the dance to Chris Brown’s “Forever” as Jim and Pam watch, amused, with damp hair from the waterfall. It remains one of television’s most memorable wedding episodes — and the ultimate Jim and Pam story in “The Office.”

“The Office” is streaming on Peacock now.
