Bull Leaps Over Safety Barrier and Into Spectator Crowd

0

Spectators let out screams when an enraged, half-tonne bull launched itself towards the crowd at a Spanish arena.

The six-year-old animal, named Malacara, had been provoked by matadors when it suddenly turned and charged at one of the performers.

As the matador pressed himself against the wooden barrier, the bull swerved left, cleared the safety fence and burst into the spectator area.

Video captured the 508kg bull hurtling towards horrified people in the front row, including a spectator who was recording the unfolding chaos.

The spectators escaped injury only because a concrete wall stood in front of them at the Plaza de Toros de Murcia in Murcia, Spain, on September 20.

Juan Perez, a shocked visitor seated several rows back, said: ‘I saw it with my own eyes, the bull jumping over the fence into the crowd.

‘The animal was completely out of control. It was incredibly fortunate that nobody was hurt. There were women sitting in those seats, and they came dangerously close to being gored by the bull’s horns.’

The footage shows the bull racing along the edge of the ring after landing among the spectators.

Officials eventually guided him back onto the sand so the bout could continue. The bull was later killed, in keeping with the local tradition.

An official said: ‘The bullfighter, Duarte Fernandes, used a killing lance, the rejon de muerte, before a verduguillo, a short sword, was used to deliver the final blow. This was needed to finish the bull.

‘The crowd called for the bullfighter to be given an ear, but the presiding judge refused. Fernandes was awarded an ovation instead.’

According to the plaza’s official report, Malacara was the sixth and final bull of the afternoon at the mounted bullfight that brought the Murcia Bullfighting Fair to a close.

Officials also reported that Malacara had twice jumped into the exit alley during the same event.

The bull came from the Los Espartales ranch and had been assigned to Portuguese mounted bullfighter, known as a rejoneador, Duarte Fernandes.

The dramatic escape was not the only recent incident in which a bull has entered a spectator area.

In July, four spectators suffered serious injuries after a rampaging bull leapt into the crowd during a bullfight at a festival in Colombia.

The rampage took place at a ‘Corraleja’ event, a traditional bull festival where the animal is released into the ring and members of the public can dangerously tease it.

Video footage showed the bull seconds after it was released chasing people in the ring before it jumped over a tall red fence and into a large crowd.

Cheers of excitement quickly turned into screams of panic as people fled the stands, with some even jumping into the ring to escape.

One woman was hit and trampled by the bull as she tried to run away around the stand.

A fearless man then grabbed the bull by the tail, allowing others to quickly escape.

Bizarrely, as the carnage unfolds, a matador calmly walks across the bullring brandishing his red cape in an apparent attempt to get the bull’s attention.

Tennessee Wendy’s Manager Arrested After Admitting to Tying Neurodivergent Employee to Kitchen Equipment for TikTok Stunt, Police Say

0

A Tennessee Wendy’s manager has been arrested after police said she tied a neurodivergent co-worker to a kitchen grill and claimed the act was part of a TikTok stunt.

Michiko Burton, 19, was charged Thursday and could face up to a year in jail over the alleged attempt to gain views online.

Burton, who has since been fired from the Murfreesboro fast-food restaurant, was not initially arrested because the worker was not injured. Police said she allegedly wrapped garbage bags around his leg before tying him to a grill.

The case moved forward after a colleague recorded a troubling video showing the worker restrained. The footage later came to light, prompting police to investigate further.

When questioned earlier this month, Burton told investigators that “the incident was part of a TikTok trend” and acknowledged tying the neurodivergent employee to a workstation, according to Murfreesboro police.

“The incident was referred to Adult Protective Services and investigated by detectives with the Special Victims Unit,” police said.

“The investigation led to warrants being obtained for Burton’s arrest.”

Burton faces charges of simple assault and false imprisonment, a misdemeanor offense that can carry a sentence of up to one year in jail.

Wendy’s executives expressed outrage after seeing the video.

The chain’s area manager described Burton’s conduct as “unacceptable.”

“That is why Michi is not here anymore,” the area manager said. “Michi is no longer a manager for us.”

Nicholus Murphy, Burton’s former colleague and the person who recorded the video, also questioned her explanation of the incident.

“If there was a TikTok trend, then where’s the TikTok?” Murphy said.

Murphy said he believed he had a responsibility to defend his co-worker and bring attention to what happened.

“They deserve justice,” he said. “He deserves a person here having his back.”

“Doing the right thing is always the right thing to do.”

Around 20 percent of the global population is neurodivergent, according to the Neurodiversity Directory. The term is an umbrella designation that includes conditions such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia and dyspraxia.

Republican Senate Candidates in Michigan and Iowa Call for End to Iran War

0

Republican Senate hopefuls Mike Rogers of Michigan and Ashley Hinson of Iowa on Monday urged an immediate end to the war in Iran while outlining proposals they said could help reduce fuel prices in the short term.

“The war with Iran needs to end and end quickly,” Rogers said in a video. He added that energy prices would drop sharply once the conflict ends, but said Michigan families need relief before then.

Rogers proposed temporarily stopping U.S. diesel exports, saying the move would keep more fuel available for farmers and truck drivers at home.

“Diesel fuels the trucks that bring groceries to the store. It fuels the tractors that grow our food,” he said. “And when diesel costs more, it costs more to grow it, ship it, stock it, and ultimately buy it.”

Rogers also renewed his call to suspend state and federal gasoline taxes, which he said would save drivers “seventy cents a gallon.”

Hinson backed the same two measures—suspending the gas tax and pausing diesel exports. She also called for broader use of E15 fuel, restoring the $1-per-gallon biodiesel tax credit and establishing a diesel relief program for farmers and truckers.

“Iowans are being squeezed and shouldn’t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran,” Hinson wrote on X. “We need to use every option at our disposal to provide some relief from high prices.”

Hinson said the federal Highway Trust Fund should be replenished if the gas tax is suspended, ensuring that Iowa’s roads and bridges do not lose funding.

“These actions to lower costs are needed ASAP, and the war needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end,” she wrote.

California Approves $8.1 Billion Paramount Merger Despite Celebrity Backlash

0

California officials have agreed to settle lawsuits aimed at blocking Paramount’s $81 billion merger with Warner Bros., prompting celebrities to condemn the deal as a “huge win for Trump.”

California Attorney General Rob Bonta, who led the legal challenge alongside 11 other state attorneys general, and the Writers Guild of America reached agreements Monday. The settlements effectively clear a major obstacle to the billion-dollar merger.

The decision sparked an immediate backlash in Hollywood. Marvel actor Mark Ruffalo, a frequent and outspoken voice on political issues, criticized Governor Gavin Newsom over the settlement in a post on X.

“Gavin Newsom hands huge win to Trump and his billionaire cronies,” Ruffalo wrote while responding to a statement from Alvaro Bedoya, a senior adviser at the American Economic Liberties Project and former Federal Trade Commission commissioner.

“Today, billionaires have yet again bribed, censored, and bullied their way to the top,” Bedoya said. “Layoffs will follow. People from L.A. to Atlanta will lose their jobs, small businesses will lose their contracts, your cable bill and movie ticket will be even more expensive.”

Political concerns have followed Paramount’s pursuit of Warner Bros. for months, particularly because of the relationship between the family of Paramount CEO David Ellison and President Donald Trump.

Ruffalo had previously urged Bonta to continue fighting the merger rather than settle the lawsuit.

“Don’t you dare … do not cave. 5,670 film makers put their necks on the line for you to fight this merger. Another 75,000+ and counting have signed to tell you not to concede in just 3 weeks,” Ruffalo said.

The actor also warned that Bonta’s constituents would “be hurt if you let this lousy deal filled with empty promises go forward.”

Ellison, pictured, welcomed the terms reached Monday with the states and the Writers Guild of America, calling them “complete clearance” for the Warner merger and saying the combination would “build a stronger Hollywood”

The merger would bring several major news networks under the same corporate umbrella, including CNN, which the Republican administration barred from the White House over what Trump described as unfavorable coverage.

Newsom, however, portrayed the agreement as a victory for workers and California’s creative economy.

“It protects California jobs while putting a safeguard in place to help preserve editorial independence for two of America’s most important news organizations,” the governor said.

Under the terms announced Monday, Paramount pledged to expand film production in the United States, contribute millions of dollars to a fund for workers displaced by the merger and establish new oversight of editorial independence within the company’s news operations.

The settlement must still receive final approval from a judge.

Ellison welcomed the agreements with the states and the Writers Guild of America, saying Monday that they provided “complete clearance” for Paramount’s merger with Warner Bros. He again argued that the combination would “build a stronger Hollywood.”

Critics, meanwhile, denounced the settlement as inadequate and accused the state attorneys general of yielding to corporate pressure. Many had viewed the lawsuit as the final significant barrier preventing a combined Paramount-Warner from becoming reality.

Negotiations remained contentious for months. Even after the companies announced additional remedies Monday, Bonta and the other state prosecutors involved in the case said they still believed Paramount and Warner Bros. should not merge.

Talks were contentious for months – and, despite new remedies announced Monday, Bonta and other state prosecutors who sued said that they still didn’t think the companies should merge

The coalition of states – which, beyond California, also includes entertainment heavyweight New York – sued to block the merger in July, alleging it would ‘extinguish competition’ and lead to fewer choices for consumers, particularly movie theatergoers and cable customers.

In Monday’s agreement, the states said they had secured a handful of ‘court enforceable’ commitments from Paramount – including pledges to increase domestic film production over the next five years by spending at least an additional $1.5 billion, or $300 million per year, and commit another $47.5 million to help fund training and career development for workers displaced by the merger.

Paramount also must make good on its promise to release 30 films each year for the next two years and 32 films in each of the three years after that.

If it fails to do so, the states say it will be required to divest from Miramax Studios and pay $30 million for each missed film toward health care and retirement trust funds associated with the Writers Guild of America and other industry unions.

When it comes to cable, Monday’s settlement orders the company to negotiate deals for current Paramount-owned and Warner-owned basic channels separately for the next five years, which the states say will help keep consumer prices down.

The company must also form a ‘News Editorial Independence Board’ monitoring news operations at CBS and CNN.

Bonta said in a news conference in Los Angeles the settlement was about ‘protecting people’s careers, the lives they’ve built here in California, the livelihoods their families rely on,’ while maintaining it was not a vote for the merger.

The Writers Guild of America, which filed its own lawsuit in July challenging the merger on the grounds it specifically harms Hollywood writers, separately confirmed that it also settled its case – concluding that it couldn’t continue its legal fight alone.

‘We continue to believe the merger will cause damage to writers and the industry at large,’ the WGA said in a statement. The union maintained that as a nonprofit ‘with no backing from government enforcers,’ the complex litigation would have cost millions of dollars.

New York Attorney General Letitia James, who helped secure Paramount’s commitment to put $17.5 million in the Writers Guild health care fund, said she will monitor the company’s activities ‘to ensure they are following this agreement and the law.’

The settlement comes after mounting fears that the iconic movie studio would move out if the lawsuit could not reach an agreement – costing thousands of jobs and serving the state a huge economic blow.

Paramount previously agreed to delay its transaction well into next year so the challenges could make their way through court. But it soon called for a settlement – notably as it looked increasingly likely that the price tag for Warner could get a lot more expensive.

Paramount had promised to pay shareholders ‘ticking’ fee compensation amounting to $7 million each day the deal was not closed past Sept. 30.

Including billions of dollars in debt, Paramount’s buyout of Warner is currently valued at about $111 billion based on outstanding shares.

Over the weekend, a handful of lawmakers, including Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker, urged the states to keep up their fight.

Other critics decried the deal Monday while warning what further consolidation could mean in an industry controlled by just a few major players.

In a statement Monday, Ellison said that the newly combined company would be based in Los Angeles.

‘We aren’t going anywhere. Our history is here and this is where our future is being built,’ he said.

Paramount never publicly commented on a potential move from California, and Monday’s settlement doesn’t specify that its headquarters stay in the state. But over the summer, Tennessee officials wrote Ellison a letter encouraging Paramount to relocate there.

Connecticut Attorney General William Tong, whose state was among those filing suit, said his main goal had been to protect the editorial independence of CNN and CBS News and that he wanted to see a full divestiture of the two news organizations.

A week ago, Tong said, Paramount refused to agree to any editorial independence for the news outlets.

‘We wanted to save ethical and independent journalism and news,’ he said in a statement.

Tong and others stressed that it was an uphill battle after the Trump administration decided against intervening. In June, the US Justice Department released a lengthy statement supporting the merger.

‘The complete abdication of the federal government’s enforcement role in this fight left states with one arm tied behind our backs,’ Tong said.

The Daily Mail reached out to Governor Newsom’s Office, Paramount, Warner Bros, The Writers Guild of America, State Attorney General Rob Bonta and Mark Ruffalo’s management team for comment.

European Union Strikes New Free Trade Deal With Philippines

0

BRUSSELS – The European Union and the Philippines unveiled a new free trade agreement Tuesday, adding to Brussels’ expanding network of bilateral deals as it works to broaden its economic partnerships amid continuing tensions with major trading powers including China, Russia and the United States.

EU trade commissioner Maroš Šefčovič said he and Philippine Trade Secretary María Cristina Aldeguer-Roque shaped the agreement to increase annual trade between the 27-member bloc and the Southeast Asian country, which currently stands at nearly 30 billion euros, or about $35 billion. The Philippines has a population of roughly 115 million.

“It also delivers stronger, more diversified supply chains at the moment when resilience has become a strategic priority,” Šefčovič said.

Electronics make up much of the existing trade relationship. The EU sells aircraft, pork and medicines to the Philippines, while Philippine exports to Europe include semiconductors, integrated circuits and industrial machinery.

The Philippines becomes the third ASEAN member to reach a bilateral trade agreement with the EU, following Vietnam and Singapore. Talks are also underway with Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, while both sides continue to pursue a broader long-term free trade agreement covering the ASEAN bloc and the EU.

“There is a bigger picture here too,” Šefčovič said. “This agreement sends a clear signal that the EU is reinforcing its engagement with the Indo-Pacific.”

The agreement is part of a wider European push to find new sources of growth and stability, with Brussels pursuing stronger trade ties from Australia to Argentina as the bloc faces a turbulent geopolitical landscape shaped by the war in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East.

European officials are also seeking alternatives to traditional energy supplies, managing strained relations with the Trump administration and responding to allegations from EU member states that Russia is conducting hybrid attacks. At the same time, China’s enormous trade surplus and near-dominance in critical minerals have added urgency to the EU’s diversification efforts.

The EU-Philippines deal broadly reflects the “middle powers” approach Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney presented earlier this year at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Carney was also the guest of honor last week at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen delivered her annual State of the European Union address.

During that speech, von der Leyen said the EU planned to create a new form of “associated membership” for Canada.

“In this new world, we must urgently reimagine our partnerships,” von der Leyen said.

Beauty Icons Bobbi Brown and Molly Sims Clash in Public Feud

0

Beauty entrepreneurs Bobbi Brown and Molly Sims have become caught up in a public dispute over the name of a makeup product.

Sims, the founder of YISE Beauty, addressed the controversy on her personal Instagram account Saturday.

In March 2024, Sims introduced YISE Beauty’s $68 Wide Awake Concealer.

Then, last week, Jones Road Beauty, Bobbi Brown’s no-makeup makeup brand, launched a $32 Wide Awake Brightening Concealer.

In an emotional video, Sims said: ‘I don’t normally post stuff like this, but over the last few days, friends, customers, brand partners and retail partners have DM’d, texted and emailed me to say that a brand I love, use and support not only used the exact name of a product I launched two years ago, but that its marketing copy and campaign also feel a little too close to home.’

‘I launched Wide Awake two-plus years ago,’ she continued.

‘It’s one of my best-selling products, and I worked on it for years…’

‘I can’t explain how disappointed — honestly, sad and hurt — I am to see this from another female founder I’ve known for years and looked up to in this industry.’

Sims described her five-person marketing operation as ‘small but mighty,’ saying: ‘We have tiny budgets. We are incredibly scrappy.’

She added defiantly: ‘There is room for all of us. All of us. There is room for more women to build great brands, create great products and have great ideas of their own.’

‘We should be inspiring each other, not taking from each other.’

‘As a mom of three, like I tell my kids all the time, I’m not mad at you, but gosh, I am incredibly disappointed,’ she concluded.

In the caption accompanying the post, which has received more than 19,000 likes, Sims wrote: ‘This isn’t about a name. It’s about ideas and the work that goes into bringing something to life. I’m not mad. I’m just incredibly disappointed.’

Sims did not directly name Jones Road Beauty in the post.

However, Brown responded to Sims from her own personal account shortly afterward.

She wrote: ‘Last week, the Jones Beauty team and I launched Wide Awake neutralizer and concealer.’

In the aftermath, Brown responded to Sims from her own personal account nonetheless

Brown responded to Sims on her personal account following the controversy

‘We didn’t realize Molly Sims had a product with the same name in her YISE Beauty collection. This was a mistake. Before our launch, a trademark search showed no other ownership of the name.’

The statement continued: ‘However, we’re changing our product name moving forward, and will no longer call it Wide Awake. I would never knowingly copy another product’s name.

‘To Molly Sims and her team at YISE, I’m sorry this happened, and we’re taking steps to correct it.’

At the time of writing, Jones Road Beauty’s Wide Awake Brightening Concealer remains available for purchase.

The new product name has yet to be revealed.

Bobbi Brown has since told the Daily Mail: ‘When we launched our new neutralizer and concealer last week, we didn’t realize YISE had a product called Wide Awake, and the trademark search we do before every new product launch didn’t reveal any ownership of the name.

‘Regardless, I have great respect for Molly, YISE, and all my fellow beauty founders, and I would never want to copy another product’s name. So we’re doing the right thing and changing the product name moving forward.’

The Daily Mail has also contacted YISE Beauty for further comment.

Sources told the publication that Applegate, who was diagnosed with MS in 2021, has been doing well as she adjusts to life back at home.

There have been few details about why exactly she has been in the hospital for months on end.

It’s unclear if the hospitalization was due to Applegate’s ongoing struggles with MS or related to other conditions.

Applegate’s first words to reassure her followers after her March hospitalization came in April, when she said on Instagram that she was getting ‘stronger and better every day.’

She posted a snap of her memoir You With The Sad Eyes, sharing she would be ‘taking a moment to focus on her health.’

Her post was captioned: ‘Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day. I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.’

Sources previously told TMZ that the actress was admitted into a hospital late in March, but a reason hadn’t been revealed.

Applegate’s representative told the Daily Mail: ‘I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are.’

‘She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.’

Earlier in February, Applegate shared that she is mainly confined to her bed due to her MS battle.

During an interview with People at the time, the star explained how the pain has largely kept her in bed.

However, she will make the effort to leave her bedroom for her teenage daughter Sadie, such as taking her to school.

‘I want to take her; it’s my favorite thing to do. It’s the only time we have together by ourselves,’ the actress told the outlet.

‘I tell myself, “Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed.” And that’s what I do.’

Applegate further expressed, ‘My life isn’t wrapped up with a bow. People’s lives, sorry for lack of a better term, f***ing suck sometimes. So I’m being as honest and raw as I possibly can.’

Multiple sclerosis occurs when ‘the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers, known as myelin,’ per Mayo Clinic.

The disease ‘can cause numbness, weakness, trouble walking, vision changes and other symptoms.’

The Dead To Me actress also reflected on her MS battle in an excerpt of her 2026 memoir You With The Sad Eyes that was published in The Guardian in March.

‘One of the worst side-effects of the illness is the exhaustion,’ Applegate candidly wrote.

‘It feels as though I’ve been on a three‑day sleepless bender – and that’s how I feel after a good night’s sleep. Hence all the time I spend on and in bed, snuggled up against my heating pad.’

She continued, ‘On the back of that diagnosis and the symptoms I face, I no longer care what I say or how I come across or how it makes anyone feel.

‘I don’t have patience for bulls*** any more, for things that are meaningless or merely “extra.”‘

Applegate shared the news of her MS diagnosis on social media in August 2021.

And in 2022 she posted a photo of her canes, and said needing help with walking is her ‘new normal.’

During an episode of her MeSsy podcast last year, the actress revealed that she had been hospitalized multiple times amid her MS battle.

‘For three years since I was diagnosed, I’ve been in the hospital upwards of 30 times,’ she told her co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler – who is also battling the same disease.

‘That is unimaginable, okay? They’ve done every test known to man on me, put so much radiation into my body from CT scans to everything else.’

When it came to penning her memoir – which was released on March 3 – Applegate previously shared that she made the decision to pen the book when she was ‘forced to slow down.’

Hurricane Polo Strengthens to Category 4 Off Mexico’s Pacific Coast

0

Hurricane Polo strengthened into a Category 4 storm over the eastern Pacific late Monday, bringing the threat of intense rain to southwestern Mexico while remaining offshore, forecasters said.

Polo’s maximum sustained winds reached 130 mph, and the storm could intensify into a Category 5 hurricane by Tuesday or Wednesday, according to the US National Hurricane Center in Miami. On the Saffir-Simpson scale, Category 4 hurricanes produce winds of 130 to 156 mph, while Category 5 storms exceed 157 mph.

The hurricane was tracking east-southeast at 5 mph but was expected to make a sharp turn toward the northwest and then west-northwest. That trajectory would keep Polo near Mexico’s coastline for several days without bringing the storm directly ashore.

Hurricane Polo has strengthened into a Category 4 storm with 130 mph winds off Mexico’s coast, bringing heavy rains but remaining offshore. NOAA via AP

Authorities issued a tropical storm watch along a section of the coast stretching from south of Manzanillo in Colima state to Tecpan de Galeana in Guerrero state. The alert means tropical storm conditions could reach the area within 48 hours.

As of late Monday, Polo was centered roughly 330 miles south-southeast of Manzanillo.

Forecasters warned that heavy rainfall could trigger flooding and landslides in coastal Guerrero and Michoacán through Thursday.

Lighter rainfall was also possible along coastal areas of Oaxaca, Colima and Jalisco.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Odalys was moving across the Pacific well away from land and was expected to strengthen into a hurricane by midweek. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph Monday.

Hurricane Polo has strengthened into a Category 4 storm with 130 mph winds off Mexico's coast, bringing heavy rains but remaining offshore.

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Fay had weakened to a system with 40 mph winds southwest of the Azores. Forecasters expected Fay to deteriorate into a remnant low by late Tuesday.

The Atlantic has yet to produce a hurricane this year, marking the latest start to a hurricane season on record. Forecasters have attributed the unusually quiet activity in part to El Niño, whose effects can weaken storms before they fully develop.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tavellion Shaqur Ullah, 26, was taken into custody this morning after allegedly exposing himself in the parking area of the Kiwanis Challenge Playground at 2002 NW 36th Avenue.

According to Gainesville police, an officer arrived at the park’s parking lot around 7:40 a.m. on September 21 after a woman reported seeing Ullah masturbating inside his vehicle with the door open. She told investigators she had been sitting in her own car and recorded the encounter while contacting law enforcement.

The responding officer said the video appeared to show Ullah in the driver’s seat, actively masturbating with his genitals visible from the open car door.

After being advised of his Miranda rights, Ullah reportedly denied masturbating, saying he had only been “hanging out” before beginning an Uber Eats shift. Police said he continued to deny engaging in the alleged conduct in a public setting even after being told the incident had been recorded.

Ullah faces a charge of indecent exposure of sexual organs. Court records show three prior felony convictions and one misdemeanor conviction, as well as a previous state prison sentence; he was released in 2023. A sworn complaint filed that year accused him of making a written threat to kill, but prosecutors later dropped the charge. His bail is scheduled to be set on September 22.
