Hikers Discover Inn Closed Due to Safety Violations Upon Return from Adventure

0

In a twist of irony, this became their ultimate refuge.

An anticipated family getaway to the mountains turned sour as their chosen lodge closed unexpectedly due to safety infractions, leaving them utterly stranded without accommodations for the night.

Eager for adventure, Sarah Ruppenthal, her husband, and their two teenage sons set off from the Gateway Inn located in Ashford, Washington, in the predawn hours of August 5, as reported by SFGate. Their aim was to explore the natural beauty surrounding Mount Rainier, a leg in their meticulously planned grand tour of the Pacific Northwest.

Their day, intended for absorbing the grandeur of Washington’s iconic peak—Mount Rainier, which majestically rises 14,410 feet above sea level—took an unexpected downturn. Upon returning to the lodge around one in the afternoon, they were stunned to find it unexpectedly closed, without any prior warning.

Utility workers delivered the unwelcome news: the family had to gather their belongings quickly and vacate, as the power was set to be disconnected imminently.

“We had to hurry and rinse off by phone light and pack up to leave,” said recalled Ruppenthal, whose family thankfully found a last-minute room at the nearby Nisqually Lodge, which was markedly more expensive.

Pierce County had imposed the closure and subsequent evacuation after an investigation found that the Gateway Inn had been renting rooms despite getting shut down in February over unresolved safety hazards.

These ongoing violations included “dangerous electrical conditions, non-working smoke detectors, unsafe exits, chimney problems that created smoke and carbon-monoxide risks, and unpermitted construction,” Pierce County spokesperson Christina Rohila told SFGATE.

“The conditions identified during multiple inspections create significant safety risks,” said Rohila, noting that they had to repost enforcement notices because they’d been taken down. The Gateway Inn will remain shuttered until it addresses the problems.

Unfortunately, the Ruppenthals weren’t the only ones who found themselves inn deep trouble.

Marilyn Mitchell only learned of the lodge’s closure after 13 hours of flying and driving, whereupon they were forced to stay at a sprawling Airbnb as a last resort.

She and her family have yet to be reimbursed for their non-existent stay.

Janine Andrews, 56, and her husband found themselves in a slightly better position after they spied a Facebook advisory announcing the Gateway Inn’s closure before they’d arrived, the Seattle Times reported.

The post had showed an orange sign on the hotel’s front door warning visitors, DANGER, DO NOT ENTER OR OCCUPY.”

When they called hotels.com — the site they’d used to book the Gateway Inn — the staffers said they were unaware of the closure.

Andrews managed to score a reservation for the same days at the Packwood Lodge for just $20 more per night, and, unlike some of the other unfortunate parties, also received a full refund from hotels.com.

“I was shocked that we were able to remedy everything,” said the relieved tourist. “I think we got saved at the end of the day.”

Ogogo’s Sister Reveals Tragic Impact of Generational Curse

Footage from the solemn burial ceremony of the esteemed Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan—better known by his stage name, Ogogo—has surfaced online. The video poignantly features his younger sister, who gives a touching narrative on the multiple tragic losses their family has endured lately.

Ogogo passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 66 years old, after a courageous fight against stage 4 cancer. His untimely death has ignited a wave of sorrow throughout the Nigerian entertainment sector. Tributes have poured in from fellow actors, friends, and a loyal fan base, all celebrating the legacy of the esteemed actor.

The veteran actor was buried on Monday, August 24, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State. The funeral attracted several prominent figures in Nollywood, including Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Muyideen Oladapo, Kazeem Adeoti, Dele Odule, Mr Latin, Ireti Osayemi, Fathia Balogun, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Toyosi Adesanya and Saje Tiologa, among others.

During the burial service, however, Ogogo’s younger sister delivered an emotional speech in Yoruba, where she recounted the painful history of deaths within their family.

According to her, the family had experienced a pattern of tragedies which she described as “Ogun Idile,” a term she associated with a generational family battle from their father’s side in Ilaro.

She clarified that she was not accusing witches or wizards of being responsible for Ogogo’s death. Instead, she described what the family had endured as a longstanding struggle that had affected several members of the family.

The woman also spoke about the number of children their mother had lost. She explained that although their mother gave birth to several children after marrying into Ogogo’s father’s family, only a few survived.

Recounting her personal experience, she revealed that she gave birth to her first child while living in their father’s home in Ilaro, but the child eventually passed away.

Her revelation echoed comments Ogogo himself had made years earlier about the losses suffered by his family.

In a 2020 interview with Sunday Scoop to mark his 60th birthday, the late actor disclosed that his mother had given birth to 13 children, but only three were still alive at the time.

Ogogo also revealed that his twin brother, Kehinde, had died, making him the last surviving member of the twin sets his mother had given birth to.

The actor, who initially trained as an automobile mechanic before finding his path in the Nigerian film industry, described reaching the age of 60 as a significant milestone and a reason to be grateful to God.

Reflecting on his life and family history at the time, he said his mother had given birth to four sets of twins and that he was the only surviving twin.

“I just want to thank God for bringing me into this world. Being 60 is a thing of joy for me. For example, my Kehinde (twin) is no more. My mother had four sets of twins. I’m the last set of twins and the only surviving one,” he said.

The revelations from his sister have added another emotional layer to the tributes surrounding Ogogo’s death, as mourners continue to remember the veteran actor and the legacy he left behind in Nollywood.

Influencer Faces 20-Year Sentence for Boasting About Funding Newly Designated Terror Group

0

A left-wing influencer with a significant following is now in hot water, facing the potential of a daunting 20-year prison sentence. This development comes in the wake of the U.S. State Department’s stern warning after the influencer allegedly boasted about financially supporting a group recently designated as a terrorist organization by Washington.

Those familiar with the antics of the Krassenstein brothers on the platform X are no strangers to their controversial takes. Brian Krassenstein, one half of the duo, may have pushed the envelope too far with his latest online provocation.

This past Wednesday marked a turning point after the United States officially recognized the Italy-based tech collective Autistici/Inventati (A/I) as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) entity. In the immediate aftermath, Krassenstein brazenly encouraged his followers to support the group financially. His supposed act of generosity took a questionable turn when he shared—and swiftly removed—a brief follow-up post.

“Donated thanks,” read the now-deleted message.

Reacting promptly to the incident, Assistant Secretary of State Dylan Johnson distributed a screenshot of the deleted message as a cautionary tale. Johnson emphasized the grave nature of the offense, reminding all that contributing funds to a Specially Designated Global Terrorist group constitutes a federal crime, carrying severe consequences of up to 20 years in prison and substantial fines.

Officials said the A/I collective built encrypted hosting, email, chat, and anonymity tools used by violent Antifa cells and other far-left militants in the U.S. and Europe.

The government also accused A/I’s infrastructure of being used by networks tied to Hamas, Iran’s IRGC, Hezbollah, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

As such, Americans sending them money or other support is a very bad idea just on its surface. Now, according to Johnson, you toss in some legal ramifications and, well, Krassenstein is potentially in some hot water.

“Donating money to a specially designated global terrorist is a federal crime. You can be prosecuted and sentenced to 20 years in federal prison and fined up to $1 million,” Johnson wrote on X. “So, maybe talk to a lawyer before listening to this moron.”

I mean, honestly, consult just about anybody before listening to a Krassenstein. Following the influencer directly into possible legal peril is not advised. At all.

After the State Department official’s warning, Krassenstein walked back his claims and said he hadn’t donated after all. He pasted A/I’s self-description (which is some next-level propaganda for a terrorist organization) and asked whether they sounded like terrorists, or whether “the people banning them and intimidating those who support them are the terrorists.”

“(And) no, I didn’t donate to them,” he added. “I’m not falling into your trap now that it’s official, but as soon as the designation is removed (which it will be), I will raise as much money as I (possibly) can for them. That’s a promise.”

Do you think his followers would pick up on the fact that, assuming what he is saying is true now, he lied to them, possibly convinced them to commit a federal crime, and then tucked his tail while leaving them to face the ramifications?

Yeah, me neither.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in naming A/I as a far-left terror organization whose services are used by the most active and violent Antifa cells in the U.S. and abroad, said far-left terrorism “poses a profound threat to the United States and the broader West.”

“There will be no refuge for violent extremists who wage war on our civilization and plot to undermine law and order, destroy critical infrastructure, assault political opponents, or conspire to conceal their crimes from authorities,” said Rubio. “We will use all the tools and authorities at our disposal to fight terrorism and protect our way of life from terrorist coercion.”

Krassenstein is still unlikely to be the test case here. He probably never sent the money, didn’t understand the statute, and Washington got more value from using him as a warning. That doesn’t make him clever. It makes him lucky.

Gainesville Man Arrested After Threatening Drive-Thru Staff with Gun in Frightening Incident

0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a startling turn of events, Jesse Matthew Lyles, aged 41, was taken into custody yesterday following accusations of threatening a Taco Bell drive-thru worker with a firearm. The alleged incident occurred after the employee was unable to clarify the term “ramekin.”

The unusual and tense episode unfolded on August 25 at the Taco Bell located at 7410 W. Newberry Road. According to the victim’s statement, a white male in a red Toyota placed his order and requested a ramekin of cheese. When the employee admitted her unfamiliarity with the term, the customer apparently became irate. The victim recounted that the man, later identified as Lyles, circled back to the drive-thru window, produced a pistol, cocked it, and threatened her. She reportedly inquired whether he intended to shoot her, prompting him to drive away swiftly. The employee expressed that she was genuinely terrified, believing her life was in jeopardy.

The account of the incident was corroborated by another Taco Bell staff member who witnessed the alarming interaction.

Authorities located Lyles shortly thereafter at a nearby Panda Express on 710 NW 60th Avenue. When approached by the deputy, Lyles, after being read his Miranda rights, expressed an unwillingness to discuss the matter, though he implied awareness of the situation. A search revealed a loaded black pistol secured in a fanny pack he was wearing.

Lyles, who reportedly works as an Uber driver, faces serious charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Although he has no previous criminal record, Judge Meshon Rawls has ordered that he be held without bail pending a hearing. The State Attorney’s Office has filed a motion for his continued detention without bail until the trial, but should this request be denied, bail will be determined at the hearing.

Drunk Boater’s Carelessness Leads to Fatal Boston Harbor Crash, Killing Promising 24-Year-Old Soccer Star

0

Prosecutors have revealed shocking new details in the case of the boater who crashed into a Boston pier, resulting in the tragic death of a 24-year-old former student athlete. The accused was reportedly intoxicated and recklessly taking his hands off the wheel to dance, steering a stolen boat into disaster.

Boston resident Lawrence Shieh, 40, faces a raft of charges after a Suffolk County grand jury indictment linked him to the fatal May 13 incident. The crash claimed the life of Elizabeth “Lizzie” Dankert, aged 24, and left two of her friends injured. Shieh is charged with involuntary manslaughter, operating under the influence (OUI) causing death, multiple counts of OUI causing serious injury, unauthorized use of a boat, and a violation of the Logan International Airport security zone.

Following a night of visiting several bars, Shieh’s blood-alcohol content tested at more than twice the legal threshold, adding to the evidence against him.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden addressed the media, noting, “On the night of the crash, Lawrence Shieh partook in an array of alcoholic drinks at the ReelHouse and other bars in the Seaport area. His blood-alcohol level was recorded at a staggering .20, far above the Massachusetts legal limit of .08.”

The boat, which was not equipped with exterior lighting, had been docked at Freedom Boat Club in Boston’s Seaport District before it was taken without permission. Although Shieh held membership in the club, he had no authorization to remove the vessel. Hayden said cellphone footage — including video recorded on Dankert’s phone — captured the moments leading up to the deadly crash.

“Cellphone videos recorded Shieh’s conduct, including inattentiveness at the helm, dancing and engaging with the three young women. Approximately six seconds before the crash, Shieh is captured on video with both hands off the wheel of the boat,” Hayden said.

The boat then crashed nearly head-on into Pier 4R at Logan.

“Recovered data from the boat navigation system indicates that the boat was traveling at a dangerously excessive speed for the area of 36 mph at the time of the crash,” Hayden said.

Dankert struck her head and died as a result of blunt force injuries. The other two women and Shieh suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Dankert, of Andover, was a 2024 graduate of Union College, where she played soccer.

“Lizzie was an exceptional student-athlete who had a tremendous impact during her four years at Union College,” Union College spokesperson Phillip Wajda told Boston 25 in a statement. News Media has reached out to Union College for comment.

In his first hearing, a cash bail was set at $25,000 with conditions for Shieh to stay away and have no contact with the female witnesses, Fan Pier and Freedom Boat Club employees, stay away from the ReelHouse in Seaport and no boating or consume alcohol during the investigations.

Shieh’s attorney, Nick Pisegna, said in the hearing that his client did not have a criminal record and has been “diligently attending” his appointments following the incident.

Shieh was released after posting bail. He is due back in court on Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. for a pre-trial conference. News Media has reached out to Shieh’s attorney for comment.

Tragic Alaska Plane Crash: 4 Killed as Aircraft Plummets into Shallow Waters Near Remote Town

0

Tragedy struck a remote coastal community in Alaska on Wednesday when a small airplane plunged into shallow waters, resulting in the deaths of all four occupants aboard, as confirmed by officials.

The ill-fated aircraft, identified as a Piper PA-24-260, was en route to the quaint town of Seldovia from Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage. The crash occurred at approximately 1:18 p.m., according to a statement released by the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

Seldovia’s modest airport lies roughly 136 miles southwest of Anchorage, providing a vital link for the community.

“Alaska State Troopers received reports of a small plane’s crash within the Seldovia Slough area,” the statement detailed.

Responding to the emergency, a helicopter crew from Anchorage was dispatched to the wreckage site, while additional troopers traveled by boat from Anchor Point to lend assistance.

Following the crash, the plane was completely submerged in about 15 feet of water in the Seldovia Slough near the shore, according to Clint Johnson, the National Transportation Safety Board’s Alaska region chief.

Troopers were forced to wait until the tide went out in order to reach the aircraft.

Once the tide level dropped at about 6:30 p.m., troopers were able to retrieve the bodies of the four adult victims from the plane.

The bodies will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy. The victims’ names will be released once next of kin are notified, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

It remains unclear what may have caused the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

This comes after another plane crashed last week at a remote military site in western Alaska, killing all eight people on board.

The aircraft, a Piper PA-24-260, was heading for an airport in the small town of Seldovia after taking off from Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage when it crashed at around 1:18 p.m.

That aircraft had been making its second runway approach in heavy fog, and its pilots were struggling to see the gravel airstrip, according to officials.

In that incident, the Cessna’s two pilots were flying solely by instruments when the plane crashed.

Regulations required that the pilots abort their first landing attempt because of the lack of visibility, and the plane crashed on its second attempt, about one-third of a mile from the runway.

Heartbreaking Family Betrayal: Mother Aids Son After Gruesome Murder of Girlfriend, 18

0

In a chilling case that has gripped Pennsylvania, authorities allege that a teenager and his mother used blue latex gloves to transport the body of his girlfriend, a budding soccer star, along several secluded roads. The mother-son duo reportedly drove in a two-vehicle convoy during the grim journey last week.

Eighteen-year-old Royce Moser now stands accused of the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Karoline Heintz, after a fatal confrontation in her vehicle. Prosecutors claim that following the incident, Moser called upon his mother, 56-year-old Rachel Moser, for assistance in disposing of Heintz’s body.

According to police reports obtained by the Daily Mail, these documents outline not only the tragic final moments of Heintz’s life but also detail how Royce and Rachel allegedly attempted to erase traces of their involvement. They purportedly donned disposable gloves in their effort to conceal fingerprints and cover up the violent crime.

Karoline Heintz was just 18 and on the brink of embarking on a promising academic and athletic journey as a freshman at Pennsylvania Western University, where she was set to compete in Division II soccer.

Tragically, her bright future was stolen from her on the night of August 19, shortly after 10 p.m., when law enforcement claims her boyfriend fatally stabbed her with a “large kitchen knife” in Washington County—a typically quiet suburban area nestled near Pittsburgh.

The nightmare began as Royce and Heintz were sat in her Jeep Cherokee outside Moser’s father’s home in North Strabane Township, according to Pennsylvania State Trooper Rocco Gagliardi.

Gagliardi told the Daily Mail that the couple began arguing about ‘how their relationship was going to go or last’ as she prepared to leave for college.

Moser then pretended he ‘had something for Heintz’ in the house such as a gift or personal belonging and asked her to wait in the car, according to the state trooper.

Rachel Moser, 56, who is accused of helping her son dispose of his murdered girlfriend’s body, has said she was ‘sorry’ that he ‘took a life’ in an astonishing perp walk admission. She is shown above being marched to a patrol car on Thursday evening

‘He goes into his father’s house, grabs a large kitchen knife, and stabs her in the chest with it,’ Gagliardi said, adding that it is unclear whether his father was home at the time.

The police trooper said that Heintz tumbled out of the vehicle onto the ground before Moser placed her in the back hatch before driving to his mother’s house about 30 minutes away in Beallsville.

Moser later told police that ‘demons’ had told him to hurt Heintz, according to his criminal complaint.

Heintz was an incoming PennWest freshman

Heintz was an incoming PennWest freshman

The complaint adds that he called his mother during the early hours of Thursday morning, and told her ‘he needed to have her follow him to PennWest- California University to drop off a vehicle.’

The teenager then admitted to his mother that he had stabbed Heintz and he needed her to give him a ride back after he dropped off the Jeep, the complaint states. He allegedly added that he didn’t know whether his girlfriend was ‘dead or alive.’

Instead of alerting the authorities, Rachel Moser helped him clean the Jeep with disinfectant spray and the two drove from her home to California Public Library on Wood Street, about 15 minutes away, the complaint states.

Surveillance footage which police are not releasing to the public shows the duo traveling in tandem past Daisytown and Richeyville, both clutching the steering wheel in blue latex gloves, according to the document.

Rachel later claimed that she was wearing the gloves because she had ‘picked up dog poop before she left and still had the gloves on,’ according to her criminal complaint.

They left Heintz’s vehicle in the parking lot with her body still inside, before returning to Rachel’s home where she told her son to ‘take a bath and then shower,’ the filing states.

‘She took the knife that was used to stab the victim and put it in a garbage bag to be put in the trash outside of her residence’ and ‘put his clothes into the washing machine’, according to the complaint.

Heintz’s family quickly alerted police to her disappearance after tracking her car and realizing that she had not returned to the university campus.

Despite the alleged cleanup by the Mosers, detectives said they found ‘blood spatter’ across the driver side of the car and on the outside of the vehicle.

Pennsylvania State Police arrested Moser and Rachel later on Thursday and they were filmed being escorted to a squad car with their ankles and wrists shackled.

Though she hid her face from the cameras for the duration of the perp-walk, Rachel made a stunning admission to the reporters surrounding her.

After declining to answer several questions, she said: ‘I’m sorry, my son took a life.’

Rachel also denied the charges leveled against her.

When asked: ‘Why did you help your son cover up a murder?’ the 56-year-old replied: ‘I did not,’ as she continued to hide her face.

His mother, meanwhile, faces charges of hindering the apprehension of a fugitive, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, conspiracy to commit tampering of evidence, conspiracy to commit abuse of a corpse and obstruction.

Heintz’s heartbroken family released a statement through Pennsylvania State Police.

‘This is a parent’s worst nightmare. It has been devastating for family, friends, and the whole community,’ the family said. ‘Karoline was loved by all. She was a kind, smart, beautiful girl. We want justice for our “sweet” Karoline.’

‘Please respect our privacy as we grieve. Any questions refer to the PA State Police.’

Heintz was slated to play Division II soccer at PennWest University, and she also played hockey for her high school team.

In a statement, the school said it ‘is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Karoline Heintz, who was a first-year student at the California campus.’

‘Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy.’

Her friends held a vigil in her memory, and her hockey teammates left their sticks outside their homes overnight in a tribute called ‘sticks out for Karoline.’
