The murder trial of Hong Kong influencer Abby Choi has opened nearly three years after investigators discovered her dismembered remains inside a pot and refrigerator.
Abby’s former husband, Alex Kwong, along with his brother Anthony Kwong and their father, Kwong Kau, are accused of killing the 28-year-old mother of four in 2023 and obstructing the lawful burial of her remains. The alleged murder took place only days after the socialite returned from a Dior fashion show in Paris, according to the Associated Press.
The proceedings are expected to continue for 45 days. Prosecutors are scheduled to deliver opening arguments later this week, when they may outline a possible motive and disclose further details about the case, CNN reported.
A conviction could result in life sentences for the three defendants.
What Happened to Influencer Abby Choi?
Abby, who frequently documented a lavish lifestyle and glamorous appearances online, was reported missing on Feb. 21, 2023, according to CNN.
Three days later, police found dismembered remains at a house in Tai Po, a rural district of Hong Kong. Investigators also recovered a meat slicer and an electric saw. Authorities allegedly found Abby’s skull, ribs and hair in a cooking pot, while her legs were located in a nearby refrigerator, People reported.
Investigators later searched a landfill as they continued looking for evidence connected to the killing.

Alex Kwong was arrested while allegedly attempting to escape by speedboat, according to the outlet. He and Abby shared two children; Abby was also the mother of two other children.
Before Abby’s death, she and the Kwong family had reportedly been embroiled in a financial dispute involving a luxury property, the Hong Kong Free Press reported.
Prosecutors said the case took more than three years to reach trial because of the extensive evidence involved and the large volume of DNA testing required, CNN reported.
After hearing testimony and reviewing evidence from both sides, jurors will surrender their electronic devices and remain sequestered while determining the fate of the three men. Under Hong Kong law, jury deliberations are confidential.
It remains unclear whether any of the defendants will testify in their own defense.
Abby was widely known for her passion for fashion, regularly attending runway shows and appearing alongside luxury brands, according to CNN. She also cofounded an animal charity dedicated to helping injured dogs and cats.
