15-Year-Old Arrested in Florida A&M Party Shooting That Injured 11

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Florida college homecoming celebration that left 11 people wounded over the weekend, including six children. Police said none of the victims appeared to be the intended targets.

Anthony Rivers III was detained Sunday after the shooting, which occurred Saturday night at Florida A&M University, the Tallahassee Police Department said in a statement.

Investigators said Rivers had been involved in “a physical altercation” with someone he knew shortly before the gunfire.
“None of the victims appear to have been the intended targets,” the department said in its update.

According to police, Rivers faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a delinquent.

“What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families,” Chief of Police Lawrence Revell said.

“While this arrest marks a significant step forward, our work is far from over. We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and getting answers for every family impacted by this tragedy,” he added.
