A father from the Atlanta area drowned in Florida after entering the ocean to free a seagull tangled in his fishing line, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Stone Romberg was fishing near his home in Florida’s Panhandle when he saw that the seagull had become caught in the line, according to Fox 5.
Romberg, 31, swam into the water in an effort to release the bird. During the rescue attempt, the fishing hook and seagull became caught on his hand. As he tried to make his way back, a powerful current pulled him farther from shore, and he drowned.
“Our hearts are broken for everyone who knew and loved him,” a GoFundMe campaign created to support his family states.

A Facebook page for his workplace said he would be remembered for “his kind heart, hard work, and willingness to always lend a hand.”
“His kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him, and he will be deeply missed,” the workplace post continued.
