The cast of Dancing With The Stars is rallying for a return to the show’s twice-a-year schedule, and they’re enlisting fans to help make it a reality. Since its debut in 2005, the beloved dance competition aired two seasons annually starting in 2006. However, this changed in 2019 when the format shifted to a single season each year.
Dancing With The Stars season 34 marked a triumphant return, drawing impressive ratings and widespread attention. The season, hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, with judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli, concluded with Robert Irwin and Witney Carson taking home the trophy. The success of the latest season has sparked a desire among some cast members to revert to the biannual format.
Alfonso Ribeiro, the show’s host, and professional dancer Ezra Sosa are urging fans to take action if they wish to see Dancing With The Stars air two seasons per year once again. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, shared on Instagram, they discussed how fans could support this initiative. The Instagram post encouraged viewers, stating, “@ezra.sosa just tell us where to sign. The #DWTS cast knows you’ve been begging for two seasons per year. Here’s how you can help make it happen!”
Host Alfonso Ribeiro & Pro Ezra Sosa Encourage Dancing With The Stars Fans To Take Action To Get Two Seasons Per Year
Host Alfonso Ribeiro and pro Ezra Sosa are encouraging fans to take action in order to reinstate two seasons per year of Dancing With The Stars if that’s what they want. In an interview with EW shared via Instagram, when asked how the fans can help with this mission, they had some ideas. The Instagram post’s caption read, “@ezra.sosa just tell us where to sign. The #DWTS cast knows you’ve been begging for two seasons per year. Here’s how you can help make it happen!”
Alfonso suggested that fans should bombard the Dancing With The Stars social media platforms with requests for two seasons a year. He said, “If every fan goes out there and goes onto all of our social media platforms and says, ‘We need two seasons a year! We will watch religiously,’ that would be one of the ways that that could happen.”
Ezra thought that a petition could be the best way to make two seasons a year of Dancing With The Stars happen. He stated, “Maybe a petition. Maybe we should start a petition. ‘Cause there needs to be either two seasons a year, or there needs to be Dancing With The Fans, ’cause that’s all we want.” Troupe dancer Hailey Bills agreed with him.
Jenna Johnson Wants An Athlete Or All-Star Season
Professional dancer Jenna Johnson thought that an athlete or all-star season could be the answer to how Dancing With The Stars could have two seasons a year, even if the second one was shortened. She said, “When we did have two seasons a year–even if it’s a shortened season–there was an athlete season. And, in the springtime, that’s when all the active athletes are available to do Dancing With The Stars. And, when there was an athlete season, I won with Adam Rippon. And so, I’m like, ‘Let’s do a shortened athlete season.’ Or [an] all-star season would be so fun!”
Jenna was referring to Dancing With The Stars season 26, the shortened athlete season, which aired from April 30 to May 21, 2018. She and figure skater Adam placed first, while pro dancer Sharna Burgess and NFL player Josh Norman were the runners-up.
Dancing With The Stars is one of the most respected and cherished reality TV shows. Watching the celebrity contestants work so hard on their routines is inspiring, especially when they come to the show with no dance background, and the pros work their magic to transform them into dancers. After two decades on the air, Dancing With The Stars is still extremely popular, so it’s definitely time for the show to return to having two seasons a year.
