Hilaria Baldwin has opened up about her past battles with eating disorders, sharing a personal journey most have not been privy to.
“I went through it all—anorexia, bulimia, overeating, and undereating,” the Baldwins star, 42, revealed during a recent episode of SiriusXM’s “Page Six Radio,” recorded on Tuesday, July 28. Baldwin recounted how extreme these struggles became, even to the point of fearing the calorie content in toothpaste.
Reflecting on her past, Baldwin expressed, “Even though I looked perfectly fine, I saw myself as a whale during those times,” adding that she began dieting at the tender age of five. “I always felt there was a part of me that was irreparably broken.”
Today, the Dancing With the Stars alum proudly shares that she has done “a lot of work” to mend her relationship with her body. “It was a miserable existence, and I didn’t want to live that way,” she said, reflecting on her transformative journey. “I couldn’t maintain healthy relationships, friendships, or even enjoy outings to dinner without stress.”
Baldwin is determined to ensure a healthier path for her seven children—Carmen, 12; Rafael, 10; Leonardo, 9; Romeo, 8; Eduardo, 5; María, 5; and Ilaria, 3—whom she shares with her husband, Alec Baldwin. Her goal is to foster a healthy relationship with food within her family.
“What I try to do with my kids is empower them, talk about strength, talk about, ‘How does the food make you feel?’” Hilaria explained, noting she never wants to “shame” them for eating an unhealthy snack.
Hilaria previously opened up about her eating disorder in 2018, sharing via Instagram, “In my book, The Living Clearly Method, I opened up about growing up with an eating disorder. I turned to yoga, health and wellness to heal my body and my mind.”
She added, “I think back to my old self and how much I would have struggled with gaining weight during pregnancy and being patient with healthfully losing it. I’m so happy I can be a strong and happy mommy now, completely accepting of my body.”
