GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 33-year-old man named Robert Dillon Donaldson has been taken into custody after allegedly smashing the glass door of a local business using his fist wrapped in a shirt.
In the early hours of May 29, around 2:52 a.m., an officer from the Gainesville Police Department responded to a burglar alarm at a shopping center located on the 1700 block of SW 13th Street. Upon arrival, Donaldson reportedly approached the officer and admitted to causing the damage. The estimated cost of repairs to the door is about $1,200.
According to the officer’s report, surveillance footage captured Donaldson approaching the business’s entrance, wrapping his hand in a black shirt, and repeatedly punching the glass until it shattered.
While conducting a search following the arrest, Donaldson allegedly mentioned having a “meth pipe,” which was subsequently discovered in the pocket of a second pair of pants he was wearing.
Post Miranda, Donaldson reportedly did not want to answer any questions.
Donaldson has been charged with felony property damage and possession of drug paraphernalia. His full criminal history is unavailable, but he is on probation out of Duval County for burglary and is listed as a fugitive on the Florida Department of Corrections website. Judge George Wright set bail at $15,000.
