GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early today, 34-year-old Shantavia Jermicia Venning was taken into custody following two separate incidents. She is accused of driving her car aggressively towards a man at a relative’s home and later causing damage to his property by hurling a doorbell camera through a window.
According to a report from the Gainesville Police Department, the first incident occurred around 9:50 p.m. on May 10. Venning reportedly arrived uninvited at the victim’s mother’s residence and engaged in a heated argument with him. She allegedly drove her vehicle toward his car, prompting the victim to position himself between the two vehicles to prevent damage, as Venning was previously arrested last summer for causing harm to his vehicle. The victim claimed he contacted 911 after Venning continued her attempts to hit his car.
A witness confirmed to the officer that the victim was shouting at Venning to halt her actions. The witness recounted hearing the car accelerating towards the victim, who was stationed between Venning’s vehicle and his parked car. The witness stated that Venning made several attempts to “run down” the victim before eventually departing the scene.
Later, around 1 a.m. on May 11, a different officer arrived at the victim’s residence. Venning is accused of tearing the doorbell camera from the front door and throwing it through a window, causing it to shatter. At the time, the victim was reportedly inside the house when the camera was thrown. Following this, he confronted Venning outside, where she purportedly spat on him during their altercation.
Post Miranda, Venning reportedly said she did not hit the victim. She also said people were lying about the incident at the victim’s mother’s house so the victim could “take” their child, but then she asked for a lawyer. She also reportedly told an officer that she could not have been at the victim’s mother’s house because she only got into town at 9 p.m., but when the officer said the incident occurred after 9 p.m., she reportedly said she went to the victim’s mother’s house to “get closure” about their child before she moved out of Gainesville.
Venning has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, throwing a missile into a building, battery, and misdemeanor property damage. She has one felony conviction; she was arrested in June 2025 for property damage, but the charge was later dropped, and a sworn complaint was filed for domestic battery after a March 2026 incident, but that charge was also dropped. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $110,000.
