A Tennessee teenager has been arrested after two brothers were shot while making DoorDash deliveries. One brother died, and the other suffered critical injuries, authorities said.

Chad T. Wright, 16, faces charges of criminal homicide, attempted criminal homicide and criminal conspiracy in connection with the death of 22-year-old John Diaz Santos and the shooting of his 14-year-old brother, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department announced.

The brothers were sitting in a black Infiniti sedan in the parking lot of Birchstone Village Apartments on North Dupont Avenue in Madison, Tennessee, on Oct. 15. The apartment complex is located just north of downtown Nashville, as Law&Crime previously reported.

Their father told regional NBC affiliate WSMV that the brothers were delivering food for DoorDash. Santos had worked for the company for more than a year. During dinner that evening, he told his father he planned to take his teenage brother along on the deliveries.

Police said a preliminary investigation found that someone approached the Infiniti at about 7:45 p.m. and opened fire. “Moments later, two more men approached and one of them also started shooting at the victims’ Infiniti,” police said. The suspects then fled on foot.

Santos attempted to escape but crashed into a nearby fence. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said. His younger brother was transported to a children’s hospital in critical condition.

Authorities have not provided an update on the younger brother’s current condition.

Police said Wright was arrested Friday, Oct. 30, at his high school. Investigators are considering robbery as a possible motive. Authorities did not say whether additional suspects are being sought.

A GoFundMe posted for the brothers and their family described Santos as “a loving, caring, hardworking young man with so many dreams and his whole life ahead of him.”

“As if losing John wasn’t heartbreaking enough, his brother Alan was also shot in the head,” the fundraiser said. “We are grieving one son while praying for a miracle for the other.”
