In a shocking twist, a woman who reconciled with her boyfriend to support him through what she described as “spiritual demons” ended up shooting him over 17 times.
Rebecca Jane Mryglod, facing charges of first-degree domestic battery, accepted a plea deal resulting in a 20-year prison sentence, as detailed in court documents from Cleburne County, Arkansas, dated August 18.
Police arrived at the couple’s home in Drasco on November 8, 2024, responding to a 911 call, where they were met with a grim scene.
The victim, screaming in agony and covered in blood, was being hurried into an ambulance. This harrowing image is vividly described in an arrest warrant obtained by Oxygen.
Mryglod, whose hands and clothing were stained with blood, was visibly distraught, crying, and breathing rapidly. She repeatedly demanded to know if her boyfriend would survive, all while confessing to the shooting, as noted in an incident report acquired by People.
Police located a semi-automatic pistol with an empty magazine in the yard and, inside the home, six shell casings and packages of marijuana, the warrant noted. Inside her pockets, they found 34 rounds of .22-caliber ammunition and two sets of ear protection in her pockets. Mryglod told police she had purchased the gun just three days earlier and had been using it for target practice.
That morning, Mryglod said she had woken up at 5 a.m. and retrieved the gun and ammunition from her car. She then went about her usual routine, including putting her daughter on the school bus.
When she came back inside, she asked her boyfriend, who was sitting on the couch, if he was going to work, the warrant read. As he stood up, she pointed the gun at him and started firing.
Though the couple had broken up, Mryglod said she had moved back in to “help him battle his spiritual demons.”
According to the warrant, “Mryglod stated she would rather Kevin be dead and her in prison where she didn’t have to help him battle his spiritual side any longer.”
Mryglod’s boyfriend was placed in critical care and underwent extensive surgeries to treat the damage from being shot more than 17 times, including an infection caused by a bullet that struck his colon.
An attorney for Mryglod declined to comment when asked by Oxygen.
