Some celebrities never seem to leave the spotlight—even after death.
Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and John Lennon have remained fixtures of popular culture decades after their deaths. Some believers say their legacy lives on through music and film, while others insist their spirits still linger in places that held special meaning during their lives. With Halloween in mind, here are five famous celebrities linked to eerie ghost sightings.
Elvis
Reports of Elvis Presley sightings began almost immediately after the King of Rock and Roll died in 1977 at age 42. He has supposedly been seen boarding flights to Buenos Aires and eating at a Burger King, claims often cited by people who believe he staged his death. Others accept that Elvis died but maintain that his spirit remains at Graceland, his Memphis home. Presley is also said to haunt the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino, where he performed some of his final shows in 1976.
Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe died in 1962 at age 36, but stories of her ghost have continued for generations. At Los Angeles’ Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, where Monroe lived early in her career, guests have reportedly seen her reflection appear in a full-length mirror that once hung in her room. Monroe is not the only legendary performer said to remain at the hotel. Actor Montgomery Clift has also been linked to reported paranormal activity there.
John Lennon
John Lennon was murdered outside his New York City apartment building, The Dakota, in 1980. In the years since, visitors and residents have claimed to sense the former Beatle’s presence around the landmark. Lennon’s spirit was reportedly felt elsewhere, too. His bandmate Paul McCartney said something unusual happened when the surviving Beatles reunited to record music in the 1990s.

“There were a lot of strange goings-on in the studio — noises that shouldn’t have been there and equipment doing all manner of weird things,” McCartney said, according to The Mirror. “There was just an overall feeling that John was around.”
Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse died in 2011 at age 27. Her father, Mitch Winehouse, later said he continued to feel his daughter’s presence.
“Her spirit comes and sits on the end of my bed. She just sits there and it looks just like her with her beautiful face and she looks at me,” he said in 2018, according to People. “I say to her, ‘Are you all right?’ because I get nervous with her being there. But it is comforting in a way to know she is here and around me.”
Lucille Ball
Unlike several others on this list, comedy legend Lucille Ball did not die young. The I Love Lucy star passed away in 1989 at age 77, yet reports suggest she may still haunt her former Beverly Hills home. According to House Beautiful, people have described broken windows, furniture shifting on its own and a figure resembling Ball appearing in an upstairs window.
