Renowned gospel artist Adeyinka Alaseyori has called on Nigerians to increase their prayers for the nation amidst a surge in child abductions, speaking out on Sunday as concern over national security grows.

In a heartfelt online message, Alaseyori urged the nation to offer spiritual support to the families affected by these tragedies, as well as to the security forces and government officials striving to resolve these issues.

A call for collective prayer

She explained that her appeal comes in response to widespread public dissatisfaction and scrutiny over the management of these abduction cases. Alaseyori emphasized that prayer should serve as a unifying force for the nation, rather than as a cause for political discord.

Highlighting the need for collective spiritual efforts for national recovery, she warned against using sorrow as a political tool during such vulnerable times.

Many doubt the efficacy of prayers, but I assure you, they are effective. Don’t allow anyone to exploit you for political gains. From the president down to every citizen, we all need to pray,” she insisted.

Security, responsibility and restraint

Deepening the context, the singer highlighted the human cost borne by security operatives deployed to rescue victims, urging empathy for families whose breadwinners risk their lives in forest operations.

She said prayer complements, rather than replaces, institutional efforts.

Those children are your children. They are my children. You can’t say the president and security personnel are not working. Sometimes they are close, and something just covers their eyes—that’s where prayer comes in.”

Her remarks echo earlier public debates following high-profile abductions, including the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls case and subsequent incidents that repeatedly sparked national soul-searching over security and civic responsibility.

As reactions spread across social media, supporters welcomed her appeal for unity, while others reiterated calls for accountability.

The exchange underscores Nigeria’s enduring tension between faith-based responses and demands for structural solutions to insecurity.
