JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — Authorities in Washington County, Tennessee, have successfully apprehended a man sought in an aggravated assault case. The suspect, last observed in a field within the Conklin area on Monday evening, is now in custody.
The Washington County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), in collaboration with the Green County Sheriff’s Office, tracked down and arrested Christopher A. Payne at approximately 3 p.m. on Tuesday, as stated in their press release.
Christopher A. Payne, aged 47, was last spotted along Charles Humphreys Road on Monday night. Despite an extensive overnight search by deputies and multiple agencies, Payne initially eluded capture.
The charges stem from an incident in which Payne allegedly took a motorcycle and assaulted a woman by choking her at her Conklin community home on Saturday. The motorcycle was recovered by deputies on the day of the incident.
The public is encouraged to contact 911 with any further information regarding Payne’s movements. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the WCSO’s website at wcso.net/tip411.php.
