SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Nolan Smith, a current Philadelphia Eagles linebacker and former standout with the University of Georgia, was arrested last week after deputies clocked his vehicle traveling at 135 mph.

Smith was arrested by the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia on Friday, May 15, and charged with reckless driving and speeding in excess of maximum limits.

A representative for the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Smith’s vehicle was recorded traveling at 135 mph in a 70 mph zone.

On May 16, the sheriff’s office had also posted a “High Visibility Enforcement Reminder” on Facebook, describing an incident in which a Lamborghini was observed traveling at approximately the same speed in a 70 mph zone through Twiggs County on May 15.

“A traffic stop was initiated, and the vehicle pulled over without incident. The driver was cooperative throughout the encounter,” the sheriff’s office wrote.

The Facebook post did not disclose the driver’s identity, but said the driver followed deputies back to the station where “citations were issued, bond was posted and the driver was released.”

“No drama. No injuries. Just a very fast car learning a very expensive lesson,” the sheriff’s office added, in part.

A Savannah native, Smith had played for the Georgia Bulldogs before he was selected by Philadelphia with the 30th overall pick in the 2023 draft. He earned a Super Bowl ring in his second season when the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX.
