Powerball, renowned for producing some of the most massive lottery jackpots in American history, has long been a staple in every U.S. state where it’s legally sanctioned. Now, this iconic game is venturing beyond American borders, entering a new chapter by making its debut in the United Kingdom.
The Multi-State Lottery Association, which not only manages Powerball but also oversees the relatively new Millionaire for Life game, has unveiled an unprecedented partnership with Allwyn UK, the official operator of the UK’s lottery. This groundbreaking agreement marks the first time that Powerball has welcomed a non-U.S. lottery into its fold, thereby increasing the number of participating regions to 49. This includes the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, alongside the states.
Matt Strawn, the Powerball Product Group Chair and CEO of the Iowa Lottery, expressed his enthusiasm about this international expansion. “This is a win for Powerball players,” Strawn stated in a press release. “With more participants, jackpots will grow more swiftly, all while maintaining the same odds for each Powerball draw, regardless of where a player purchases their $2 ticket.”
