AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Salvation Army of Augusta celebrated its annual “Compassion in Action” awards luncheon this past Thursday, gathering supporters and community members at the Kroc Center.
In a significant initiative to enhance their services for the homeless, the organization is on the brink of opening a new shelter. Located at the Hale Street site, this upcoming facility marks a crucial step forward in their mission, with plans to commence clearing the site within the year.
Major Jonathan Raymer, the commanding officer of the Salvation Army, expressed enthusiasm about the progress. “We are nearing the completion of our fundraising campaign, needing just over $400,000 to reach our $15.7 million goal,” he shared. “This development will provide us with greater flexibility and the capacity to assist more individuals. With separate areas for men, families, and women, divided by a wall, we can cater to a broader range of needs.”
