England football icon Alan Shearer was spotted letting loose, dancing atop a table and belting out karaoke tunes during a celebratory gathering for The Rest is Football’s post-World Cup party. The festivities were in honor of the show’s continued partnership with Netflix.
In an impressive display, Spain clinched their second World Cup star with a gritty 1-0 triumph over reigning champions Argentina on Sunday, securing the title at MetLife Stadium.
Both Shearer and Micah Richards were engaged during the final match, representing the BBC. Shearer provided commentary, while Richards was on punditry duty alongside notable figures Wayne Rooney and Joe Hart.
Richards, aged 38, took to Instagram to share clips of Shearer enthusiastically holding a microphone, fully immersed in karaoke moments.
The ex-England skipper showcased his singing chops with a rendition of Rick Astley’s classic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up,’ and later, he was spotted completing his performance with the hit ‘Mr. Brightside’ by The Killers, all while energetically dancing on a table.

The Rest Is Football recorded daily shows throughout the World Cup in a Netflix deal worth a reported £14million, with Richards and Shearer balancing the podcast with their BBC duties.
In the final show, which was broadcast this morning, Lineker confirmed that the podcast will continue on the subscription-based streaming service for the 2026/27 season, starting in August.
‘I’ve got some very exciting news,’ Lineker said. ‘From the start of the Premier League season, which kicks off in just 32 days, we’re back on Netflix, baby!’
The former Match of the Day host then confirmed that episodes of the show will be released on a weekly basis.
It will likely see the iconic trio join forces again to discuss the biggest stories of the weekend, with guests joining on occasion.
During the World Cup, they hosted footballers and celebrities such as Harry Maguire, Patrick Vieira, Maya Jama, Michael McIntyre, and even New York mayor Zohran Mamdani was interviewed by Lineker.
It was not the only show that Lineker was a part of during the tournament, though, with the footballer-turned-presenter also appearing on ITV in a surprise guest slot during the group stage.
In a move that shocked football fans when it was first mooted, Lineker made an appearance on ITV’s coverage of Germany versus Ivory Coast. Lineker humorously introduced the show before ITV host Laura Woods interjected to remind the former England striker of his role.
‘Thank you very much for joining us on ITV for this one – another day, another game, another channel,’ Lineker said as he opened the programme before jocularly apologising for slipping into ‘old habits’.
Lineker then mocked the BBC, confirming ITV’s breathtaking studio overlooking the Manhattan skyline was real, while his former employers remain at Salford’s MediaCity until the knockout stages.
‘I’ve been doing a show daily for Netflix; we’re at Times Square,’ Lineker later continued. ‘But I desperately wanted to come and see your set because I think it’s absolutely amazing and I can confirm that it is real.’

Lineker remained on the coverage for 20 minutes and jokingly asked whether he had failed the audition before departing.
‘If you passed it, you would get my job, so you’ve failed,’ Woods quipped.
‘I’ve got no chance of that, Laura,’ Lineker replied. ‘May I say what a fabulous job you do – you are very good at this.’
Lineker joined Duncan Ferguson, Gary Neville, and Ian Wright as a ‘special guest’ on ITV’s temporarily enlarged panel.
Richards had then jokingly labelled Lineker an ‘absolute traitor’ on The Rest Is Football, adding ’26 years of blood, sweat, and tears for the BBC, and then you go over to the rivals!’
The comment prompted Lineker to jokingly tell Richards to ‘shut the f*** up.’
