On Wednesday, the State Department revealed that negotiations led by the United States between Israel and Lebanon have successfully resulted in a cease-fire deal.
A joint statement from the US, Lebanon, and Israel declared, “The ceasefire requires a complete halt to Hizbollah’s actions and the withdrawal of all Hizbollah operatives from the South Litani Sector.”

The statement further elaborated, “Guided by the United States, both parties have agreed to rapidly implement pilot zones where the Lebanese Armed Forces will have sole control, excluding all non-state actors.”

“These initiatives aim to facilitate progress toward a comprehensive peace and security agreement,” it concluded.
The breakthrough comes after two days of talks in Washington between Israel and Lebanon.Ā
Secretary of State Marco Rubio hinted that a deal was coming in testimony before the House Foreign Affairs Committee earlier Wednesday.Ā
āAs I speak to you now ⦠leaders of the legitimate government of Lebanon and leaders from the government of Israel are seated at the State Department for the second day in a row,ā Rubio said.

āAnd hopefully today will produce a joint statement and an action plan on a track for security in that country, independent from Hezbollah, independent from nefarious influence,ā he added.
