JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Transportation Authority cut 57 positions Monday, including 19 bus operators, 33 mechanics, four control center operators and one engineer.
With the latest cuts, JTA has eliminated 116 positions since September. The reductions are part of an effort to address a $39 million budget shortfall.
JTA operates Jacksonville’s public bus system, the automated Skyway and paratransit services. The agency announced in September that it would suspend both Skyway and NAVI operations.

Skyway service was halted ahead of schedule over Halloween weekend. NAVI service is scheduled to end Jan. 1, 2027.
“As part of the organizational restructuring and expense reductions announced in September, the JTA eliminated 57 positions on Monday,” a JTA spokesperson said. “To date, the JTA has eliminated 116 positions through this restructuring, including previously announced administrative reductions. These are not additional reductions, but part of the comprehensive changes adopted in September that will stabilize today to restore tomorrow.”
