The Los Angeles Rams have made waves in the NFL by securing a key player in a monumental trade: Myles Garrett, the superstar edge rusher. This strategic move clearly demonstrates the Rams’ determination to vie for another Super Bowl victory at SoFi Stadium.

To grasp the significance of this aggressive acquisition, it’s essential to appreciate Myles Garrett’s journey and his evolution into one of the era’s most formidable defensive forces. Born on December 29, 1995, in Arlington, Texas, Garrett displayed prodigious talent from a young age, which set the stage for his future in professional football.

Texas phenom

During his time at Martin High School, Garrett excelled across multiple sports, showcasing his athletic prowess in football, basketball, and track. On the football field, he was particularly dominant, recording 19.5 sacks in his senior year and earning the esteemed Landry Award, which honors the top high school player in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

His exceptional high school performances earned him a five-star recruit status and recognition as the nation’s leading defensive end. With much anticipation, he committed to Texas A&M, carrying the weight of being one of the most eagerly awaited prospects in recent memory.

Rated a five-star recruit and the No. 1 defensive end in the country, he committed to Texas A&M as one of the most hyped prospects in years.

College game-wrecker

Garrett delivered immediately in college. As a true freshman in 2014, he broke Texas A&M’s freshman sack record in just six games and set an SEC freshman mark with 11.5 sacks. By his sophomore year, he led the SEC in sacks and became a unanimous All-American.

Even through injuries in his junior season, he still earned unanimous All-American honors and left college as one of the most feared pass rushers in the nation.

Instant NFL superstar

That dominance carried straight into the NFL. The Cleveland Browns selected Garrett No. 1 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, where he quickly became the franchise’s cornerstone and all-time sack leader.

Over his career, he has earned multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards, seven Pro Bowl selections, and five first-team All-Pro honors. In 2025, he set the NFL single-season sack record with 23.

His career has not been without controversy. In 2019, Garrett was suspended indefinitely after an on-field incident involving the Steelers, in which Garrett struck Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Rudolph with a helmet. Garrett missed the final six games of the season.

He was reinstated from the suspension on February 12, 2020. He later apologized for his actions, which he described as “foolish” and “out of character.”

Off the field, Garrett is known for his creativity and personality — writing poetry, engaging in charitable work, and investing in sports ownership, including a stake in the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. As of 2025, Garrett is in a relationship with Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Chloe Kim.

Now, Garrett arrives in Los Angeles as the centerpiece of a Rams defense built to win immediately. For a franchise that lives by “F— them picks,” he represents exactly that: a rare, game-wrecking talent acquired for one goal — another championship.
