Minnesota Homecoming Shooting Suspect Out on Bond After Gunfire

A homecoming celebration in Minnesota turned into a scene of panic after gunfire erupted outside a high school—and the accused shooter’s release from jail two days after his arrest has reignited debate over crime and bail.

Adam Abdihakeem Adam, 18, was released Saturday evening after posting bond, according to Hennepin County jail records reviewed by News Media.

Police allege that Adam shot two teenagers outside Eden Prairie High School during the Oct. 2 homecoming football game, forcing officials to evacuate the stadium.

The decision to release him prompted criticism from President Donald Trump’s Rapid Response 47 account, which cited police statements connecting the shooting to rival Somali gangs.

“A Radical Left judge immediately granted him a no-condition bail,” the account said in a post on X.

Hennepin County jail records show a $100,000 bail or bond option with no conditions. Adam was released at 7:04 p.m. Oct. 10. He is charged with two felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of second-degree riot while armed with a dangerous weapon. His next court appearance is set for Monday afternoon.

The shooting wounded an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old and triggered a multi-agency search for those allegedly involved, Eden Prairie police said.

According to charging documents cited by affiliate FOX 9 Minneapolis, the confrontation began when two cars pulled into a parking lot and a fight involving roughly 10 people broke out. The driver of one vehicle allegedly stepped out, fired at the victims and fled.

Investigators identified that driver as Adam, who allegedly had been driving his brother’s car. Police tracked his phone and the vehicle before, during and after the shooting, the outlet reported. He allegedly later discarded the phone and changed his number.

A search of Adam’s St. Louis Park home reportedly uncovered clothing that matched what the suspected shooter was wearing in surveillance footage, according to the charges cited by FOX 9.

Officers arrested Adam without incident on Oct. 8 near Highway 55 and Penn Avenue in Minneapolis.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said detectives from its Auto Theft Task Force and West Metro Drug Task Force, along with officers from St. Louis Park and Hopkins, helped safely surround the vehicle.

“I’m incredibly proud of our officers and investigators who have worked nonstop alongside our law enforcement partners to identify those responsible and hold them accountable,” Eden Prairie Police Chief Matt Sackett said after the arrest.

The case has also heightened concern over alleged Somali gang-related violence in the metropolitan area. Regional public safety agencies met under the coordination of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, with police leaders saying they are exchanging intelligence and coordinating investigations to help prevent additional shootings.

Michele Tafoya, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, cited the homecoming shooting and other recent incidents last week as she warned that more Minnesotans feel increasingly unsafe.

“Our law enforcement here are calling it out as the product of Somali gang violence, and we’ve got to identify it, and we have to find a way to deal with it,” Tafoya told News Media.

Eden Prairie police also are investigating an Oct. 5 shots-fired incident at a Speedway gas station, where no injuries were reported. Investigators said they have not identified a connection between that incident and the homecoming shooting.

Sackett said the homecoming investigation remains active, with additional arrests or charges possible.
