The Knicks’ victorious celebration is set to shine undeterred.
Fans of the Knicks can look forward to a delightful day with mild breezes as the city’s beloved basketball team celebrates their historic NBA championship win, their first in over half a century, on Thursday morning. The parade will journey up Broadway, with the possibility of thunderstorms looming later in the day.
The morning promises pleasant weather, with temperatures reaching the mid-70s as MVP star Jalen Brunson and his teammates embark on their legendary procession through the Canyon of Heroes, stretching from Battery Park to City Hall. This marks the team’s inaugural ticker-tape parade, according to Accuweather meteorologist Matt Benz.
A humid atmosphere will accompany the festivities, with winds anticipated to blow between 10 and 20 mph, Benz noted.
However, the forecasted thunderstorms are expected to delay their arrival until later in the afternoon, as temperatures climb into the low 80s, the meteorologist added.
“Stay hydrated out there,” Benz said. “It’s not going to be as hot as it was over the weekend but overall should be favorable for a parade.”
Thursday’s parade, which could be the biggest in the city’s history, is scheduled to start at Battery Park around 10 a.m.
From there, the parade route goes for about a mile up Broadway to City Hall, where a ceremony will be held and the players will be awarded keys to the city.
Mamdani urged Knicks faithful to secure their viewing spots up to two hours before the parade kicks off.
Police are expected to announce street closures later this week.
This will be the Knicks’ first ticker-tape parade, as their two previous championships in 1970 and 1973 were celebrated without one.
