In a twist of irony, a man who arrived to collect his friend from police custody ended up behind bars himself for driving under the influence in upstate New York.
Antone Gilonna, aged 25, drove into a restricted area of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office parking lot while attempting to pick up his friend, who had just been released following a DWI arrest, according to a statement from the MCSO.
A sheriff’s deputy on the scene quickly became suspicious that Gilonna, the designated driver, was also intoxicated, prompting further investigation.

Subsequent field sobriety tests confirmed the deputy’s suspicions, as Gilonna failed both assessments. Consequently, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated, leaving his friend without a safe ride home.
While the sheriff’s office did not disclose Gilonna’s specific test results, he faces charges for having a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher. It’s worth noting that the legal limit for drivers in New York State is 0.04%.
Gilonna was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, regular unlicensed operator, and DWI.
He was released that same day and ordered to appear in Glen Town Court at an unspecified date.
Gilonna previously had his New York State Driver’s license revoked for a prior DWI-related conviction and a chemical test refusal, according to the sheriff’s office.

Gilonna isn’t the first idiotic DWI arrest.
On Halloween, an 18-year-old partier was arrested on a DUI charge while dressed as a prison inmate. The Florida police department that nabbed him teased that he “was already dressed for arrest.”
Another Florida man was arrested in July 2025 for plowing his lawnmower down a busy highway while he was under the influence.
