Authorities at Glacier National Park in Montana announced on Thursday that search and rescue teams have discovered the body of a missing hiker.

The hiker was found on Wednesday approximately two-and-a-half miles along the Mt. Brown Trail, located about 50 feet from the path in a thickly forested area cluttered with fallen trees, according to park officials.

Officials indicated that the injuries observed on the body align with those typically inflicted during a bear encounter. They noted, “Wildlife and law enforcement personnel are currently evaluating the vicinity for bear activity and any potential risks to public safety. The investigation remains active.”

The section of the trail where the incident occurred will remain off-limits until the investigation concludes.

The National Park Service has refrained from disclosing the hiker’s identity, pending notification of the next-of-kin, which is expected to occur within three days.

The service said Tuesday that a search was being conducted for a Fort Lauderdale, Florida man who was hiking and hadn’t been heard from since Sunday night.
