Celebrities Flock to Surrey’s Exclusive Garden Centre: Why “Old Junk” Fetches Four Figures

0

If you’re perusing the furniture section at Petersham Nurseries, an upscale garden oasis nestled just a meadow’s distance from the Thames in South West London, you might wonder if you’ve accidentally wandered into a salvage yard. This isn’t your typical garden center experience.

Amid the vibrant array of bedding plants, shrubs, and climbing vines, customers are met with the unexpected sight of rusted metal decor—tables, chairs, mirrors, and urns—that might look more at home at a thrift market, all seamlessly integrated with the surrounding greenery.

Dangling from each piece is a neatly tied paper tag, proudly bearing the nursery’s crest—a pair of elegantly hand-drawn elephants—alongside the item’s price.

Ironically, the appearance of these weathered, vintage-style treasures belies their price, which is far from modest.

Take, for instance, a duo of rusted cast iron urns, their red and white paint showing significant signs of wear and tear. These relics carry a hefty price of—you guessed it—£800, prompting a double-take.

The once painted surface has given way almost entirely to rust. Right: The small cardboard tags that discreetly share the price of each item

Elsewhere, a circular metal garden table with almost all of the once painted surface now giving way to rust rings through the till at £950 and a ‘French garden’ bistro set with four chairs, this time with more of the paint intact, will set you back a cool £1,200.

The junkyard chic items somehow work when set against the truly ambrosial backdrop of what is arguably the country’s poshest garden centre.

And, according to one interiors expert, the oxidised look is very on trend.

Lucy Mather who works for luxury home brand Arighi Bianchi told The Daily Mail: ‘The rust aesthetic is one of those trends that sounds incredibly counterintuitive until you see it in context.

This grey five piece French garden bistro set retails at £1,200

‘It’s the decor equivalent of beautifully-creased linen or age-softened leather – it makes a real statement that things don’t have to look pristine to feel luxurious and intentional.

Petersham’s latest weathered stock is, she adds, ‘part of an overarching move towards embracing imperfection and individuality in home décor. It’s all about celebrating the marks that have been left by time, and nothing tells that story better than rust.’

‘That’s why we’re seeing people investing in corten steel planters and oxidised furniture that give the impression they’ve been sitting outside for years.’

The Petersham Nurseries greenhouses don’t just house plants, bulbs and garden tools either; the cafe and restaurant are just as big a draw for the well-to-do customers who venture here.

Just ten miles from the bright lights of central London – and a mile from Richmond station, landing in Petersham, where the average cost of a house teeters around the £2.5million mark, feels like you’ve arrived at some rural idyll.

The previous nursery had been snapped up by the Boglione family when they purchased nearby Petersham House back in 1997, and re-opened again – this time as a more bohemian garden nursery – in 2002.

Its popularity soared and the original restaurant won a Michelin star thanks to the creativity of renowned Australian chef Skye Gyngell, who died at the age of 62 in November.

Gyngell wowed diners with menus that centred around the slow food movement, often using locally-sourced ingredients.

Unsurprisingly, this bucolic spot by the river has enjoyed a carousel of celebrity visitors over the decades, from Mick Jagger to Madonna. Tom Holland and fellow A-lister Zendaya, who live close by, have also been spotted dining out at the posh garden centre.

Indeed, Petersham Nurseries has become one of the attractions – alongside Kew Gardens, the ancient Royal reserve of Richmond Deer Park and the town’s pretty cricket green – that have seen the well-heeled – and the famous – snap up Victorian and Georgian properties in the borough.

Indeed, the ratio of celebrities to mere mortals continues to rise, with Richard Osman, author of best-selling The Thursday Murder Club series, reportedly buying an £8million home in the town last year.

House of Games presenter Osman, who shot to fame as Alex Armstrong’s sidekick on Pointless before turning his hand to writing thrillers, is in fine company in the princely TW10 postcode.

Sir David Attenborough resides quietly just around the corner, where he’s lived in the same pretty, lilac-painted home – with, as you might expect, a beautiful garden, since the early Fifties. His late brother, Richard Attenborough, also owned a home on Richmond Green until his death in 2014 at the age of 90.

The world’s most famous naturalist, who celebrated his 100th birthday in May, may have travelled the globe extensively in pursuit of the planet’s rarest species but he maintains that the corner of London he calls home is his ‘favourite place on earth’.

Across Richmond Park, the 1000-hectare green space once used as a hunting ground for Henry VIII, you’ll find the London home of Spiderman star Tom Holland and fellow A-lister Zendaya.

The couple, who have dramatically renovated the townhouse they bought for £2.5million back in 2017, have been spotted shopping in Waitrose in nearby New Malden, enjoying long walks with their beloved black miniature schnauzer, Noon, in the royal park close to their luxury property.

While perennially popular – Richard E Grant, The Rolling Stones and Sir David Attenborough all discovered this pretty South West London riverside town decades ago, Richmond’s popularity with major stars has ratcheted up a notch in recent years.

If homes in the likes of Primrose Hill, Holland Park, Chelsea and Hampstead were once London’s most lusted after addresses, it seems the exodus a little further west has begun in earnest.

One local independent estate agent told the Daily Mail earlier this year that he’s watched his patch transform in the last decade, as high profile high earners flock to a borough that has impressive transport links to both central London and Heathrow, independent shops galore, two theatres and major tourist attractions including Richmond Deer Park and Kew Gardens.

However, the real reason behind so many famous faces moving in comes down to one major celebrity deal-breaker – privacy.

Jonathan Mills, owner of agency Parkgate, says that residents take a laissez-faire approach to stars in their midst, which is hugely appealing to A-listers yearning for a quiet life.

He says: ‘Privacy is respected and I think that’s a large part of the appeal of Richmond. Celebrity is normalised here – residents may give a cursory nod of appreciation but they won’t run up screaming to them requesting photos.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Petersham Nurseries for comment.

Mystery Deepens: Spouses Lawyer Up as One Vanishes, Another Reappears in Missing Bahamas Boater & Slain NJ Woman Case

0

For several months now, Brian Hooker, whose wife, Lynette Hooker, vanished mysteriously in Michigan, has remained noticeably out of the public eye. His low profile has sparked widespread curiosity and concern as the search for Lynette yields no significant leads.

Conversely, Conor Hanlon, entangled in the investigation of his wife Brooke’s tragic demise, has been seen on two occasions within the span of one week, making waves in a separate high-profile case.

While the circumstances surrounding each case differ, a common thread binds these husbands: poignant silence amidst relentless speculation. Despite the mounting questions, both have sought legal counsel while remaining officially uncharged in connection with their wives’ cases.

“If I was the criminal defense attorney for either one of these individuals, I would advise them to keep a low profile,” says criminal defense attorney and FOX News contributor Ted Williams.

In Brian Hooker’s case, his wife Lynette vanished from the Bahamas on April 4 while the couple was on a boating vacation.

Brian told investigators that she fell from their dinghy while they were at sea.

Following her disappearance, he was arrested and subsequently released by Bahamian authorities after questioning.

The U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service (USCGIS) has been leading the investigation into Lynette’s disappearance.

In early June, USCGIS relied on divers, underwater vehicles, drones and a cadaver dog while searching an area of Hope Town, Bahamas where Lynette was last seen alive.

Brian’s attorney Matt Borgula previously told News Media, “We have been in communication with investigators and prosecutors on the case and will not discuss facts in the media while the investigation is ongoing.”

In the case concerning Conor Hanlon, his wife Brooke Hanlon, was found fatally stabbed inside the couple’s Chester, New Jersey home on June 6.

“Stabbing is a very personal direct attack where there may be physical evidence or where the person who was stabbed attempted to defend themselves,” Williams said.

He goes on to say, “I’m sure that that is certainly something that the authorities are looking into.”

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating her death as a homicide.

Hanlon has been spotted twice in both Chester, New Jersey and in his childhood neighborhood of Brighton in Boston, Massachusetts.

In one situation, a woman has been gone without a trace for more than three months, and her husband has not been seen or made a public statement since April.

In the other case, a woman’s butchered body was discovered inside her home and her husband called 911; he was seen twice in the last week following his wife’s June death.

Williams said, “The one question that we don’t know, and really in either one of these cases, is how cooperative they are. Are they actually cooperating with the authorities?”

He says its likely the husbands are following advice from their hired counsel.

“Law enforcement is clearly continuing to look at both of these individuals, yet they have not found sufficient evidence to date to make an arrest. The fact that they have gone underground that could very well be because their lawyers have told them to keep a very low profile,” Williams said.

Neither Brian Hooker nor Conor Hanlon have been accused of any crime or wrongdoing.

Celebrity Trainer Martin Snow’s Nose Broken in Gym Brawl Drama

0

Renowned boxing trainer Martin Snow, famous for working with celebrities such as Kit Harington, Ansel Elgort, and Leah McSweeney, recently narrated a shocking incident involving an attack by a would-be influencer at his gym in the Financial District. Speaking to Page Six, Snow detailed how the altercation unfolded.

The altercation involved Instagram personality Benjamin Hardy, known for his superhero-centric posts. Hardy was taken into custody following accusations of assaulting Snow and breaking his nose during a Monday afternoon confrontation. Additionally, one of Snow’s employees also ended up spending the night in jail related to the incident.

Martin Snow, the longstanding proprietor of the Trinity Boxing Club, recounted how Hardy, in the company of manosphere influencer Sonny Faz and another individual, entered the gym on Vesey Street around 1 p.m. Their intent was reportedly to capture content for social media.

However, things took a violent turn when Snow refused their request to use the gym as a filming location. According to Snow, this denial led to Hardy head-butting him, culminating in a broken nose and an eventual hospital visit.

But Snow says that when he told them they couldn’t use his gym as a film set, Hardy head-butted him, breaking his nose and sending him to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Hardy claims he only lashed out because “four guys” were “holding him down.” He declined to comment further without speaking to a lawyer.

When we asked Snow why he didn’t fight back, the 1985 Golden Gloves super-heavy- weight finalist told us, “I would have destroyed him. I can’t hit him.”

The NYPD told us that Hardy was arrested for assault and criminal trespassing. He’s already been arraigned and pleaded not guilty to both charges, according to documents reviewed by Page Six.

Snow, who founded the gym in 1997, became a familiar face to Bravo fans when he appeared on “The Real Housewives of New York City” as McSweeney’s boxing coach.

The boxer tells us that when one of his gym’s longtime trainers heard the melee, “he smacked one of the guys.”

That trainer was also arrested and spent the night at the local precinct. Faz did not respond when Page Six reached out for comment. We couldn’t reach the third man in their group.

Argentina Protests Royal Navy Ship—Tensions Over Falklands

0

Ahead of the World Cup semi-final, Argentina has leveled accusations against the Royal Navy, claiming an ‘illegal incursion’ into their waters surrounding the Falkland Islands.

The diplomatic tensions sharpened following Argentina’s dramatic 2-1 victory over England last night in Atlanta, a game that left English fans disheartened.

Amid the post-match controversy, Argentina’s players were criticized for ‘war mongering’ when they unfurled a banner asserting their claim to the Falkland Islands.

Britain has maintained sovereignty over the Falklands for nearly two centuries, first taking control of the then-uninhabited islands in 1690. In a 2013 vote, a resounding 99.8 percent of residents chose to remain a British Overseas Territory.

Several prominent players, along with team captain Lionel Messi, were seen celebrating beside a banner proclaiming ‘Las Malvinas son Argentinas,’ emphasizing their national claim.

The new diplomatic row centres on HMS Medway, a patrol vessel based in the Falklands – and came hours after Argentina’s vice-president called England ‘usurping pirates’ and demanded the Islands back.

Argentina’s foreign ministry has accused the Royal Navy of making an ‘unconsulted and illegal’ passage through Argentine territorial waters.

Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno said HMS Medway had breached agreements between the two countries in a diplomatic note of protest submitted to the British Embassy in Buenos Aires.

‘In diplomacy, work is not shouted about like goals, but we are driven by the same conviction: the pride of being Argentine and the constant defence of our interests,’ Quirno wrote on X.

A formal complaint released by the foreign ministry claimed the incident occurred shortly before last night’s grudge match.

Britain rejected the accusation, insisting HMS Medway’s passage was conducted as ‘innocent passage’ in accordance with international law and that Argentina had been notified in advance.

The Ministry of Defence said the transit took place on July 8 as the vessel returned to the Falklands after supporting scientific operations in Antarctica.

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has said: ‘The Falkland Islands are British. The Conservatives will always defend them.’

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said today: ‘Whilst I am disgusted at the behaviour of some Argentinian players last night, the most important thing to do is build up the Royal Navy quickly.’

HMS Medway is a Batch 2 River-class patrol vessel permanently stationed in the Falkland Islands. It became the Royal Navy’s permanent guard ship in the region in January, replacing HMS Forth.

The vessel is tasked with maritime patrols and fisheries protection duties.

An MOD spokesman said: ‘HMS Medway undertook a routine logistics visit to Punta Arenas on 5-8 July supporting British Antarctic Survey (BAS) operations, delivering essential stores and supplies to sustain scientific research in Antarctica.

‘The transit from the Falkland Islands to Chile and back was carried out via the most direct practicable route, considering operational safety and weather factors to ensure timely delivery.

‘This planned logistics activity reflected the UK’s ongoing commitment to world-leading polar science and maintaining the infrastructure that supports BAS operations.’

The animosity dates back principally to a ten-week war in 1982, when an Argentinian invasion of the Falklands was seen off by the British – at the cost of 907 lives.

It spilled over into football four years later when Maradona scored his infamous ‘hand of God’ goal in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final clash.

He used his fist to put the opening goal past England, allowing Argentina to win 2-1 and go on to claim the World Cup trophy.

Quirno earlier claimed the people living on the islands had been ‘artificially implanted’ – and that a referendum on British sovereignty was illegitimate.

New footage has revealed how Argentina’s classless players shushed the crowd before hoisting a provocative banner claiming the Falkland Islands as their own after beating England in the World Cup semi-final.

Several of the team’s stars including talisman Lionel Messi are now facing calls to be banned from the final after celebrating with the incendiary and ‘idiotic’ sign.

Despite FIFA’s ban on political flags, Tottenham captain Cristian Romero, Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez and ex-Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso celebrated with the controversial banner after the final whistle.

Captain and star player Messi was also dancing alongside it after his team beat the Three Lions 2-1 in Atlanta last night.

Tory shadow minister Andrew Griffith said: ‘Labour’s Chagos surrender has made us look weak, and British territory up for grabs. The Falklands are British. Whoever won the football. This idiotic display from the Argies was clearly against FIFA rules. They should be punished.’

He added: ‘FIFA fined our players for wearing poppies in 2016. They banned Spanish players in 2024. The Argentinian players’ display yesterday was disgusting and an insult to the Falkland Islanders. Why shouldn’t FIFA ban the Argie players from the final?’

Shocking footage taken from the stands showed the Argentinian team holding their fingers to their lips before raising the Falklands banner aloft.

Lo Celso later carefully laid the banner on the pitch as the team taunted the English fans.

UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Peter Kyle, said today it was ‘entirely inappropriate’ to wave the banner, praising England for acting with dignity in ‘real contrast with what we saw with the Argentina team’.

Scottish Tory MSP Murdo Fraser said: ‘One thing needs to be made very clear this morning. The Falklands have never belonged to Argentina. And never will.’

Thomas Tuchel's performance last night has been called a 'coaching catastrophe'

Thomas Tuchel’s performance last night has been called a ‘coaching catastrophe’

FIFA has yet to comment, but the governing body is under huge pressure to punish Argentina for flouting its rules with an incendiary banner backing the country’s claim to the Falkland Islands. Manchester United and Spurs are being urged to punish Romero and Martinez.

Twelve years ago, the team carried the same banner at an international friendly and was fined just £20,000.

But there are growing calls for the players who carried the banner at a match of such magnitude – watched by an estimated 950 million people worldwide – to face tougher sanctions.

A total of 255 British servicemen were among the 907 people who died in the 1982 Falklands War, which saw UK armed forces retake the islands after an Argentine invasion.

Britain first landed on the uninhabited islands in 1690 and claimed them for the Crown in 1765. It has maintained a permanent presence there since 1833 – 47 years before Argentina became a fully unified state following its declaration of independence from Spain in 1816.

The last official referendum of Falkland Islanders was held in 2013, when 99.8 per cent of voters chose to remain a British Overseas Territory.

The offensive banner made a terrible night even worse for England. The team were leading 1-0 with just five minutes remaining.

Thomas Tuchel is facing calls to be sacked over his tactical decisions and defensive substitutions as England stood on the verge of reaching their first World Cup final since 1966.

The German manager insisted after the game that he had ‘no regrets’, but pundits and fans have turned on him after his team surrendered the lead when he took off speedy goalscorer Anthony Gordon and replaced the winger with defender Ezri Konsa.

Tuchel then took off Declan Rice for Nico O’Reilly and Reece James for Dan Burn in a further retreat 10 minutes later. Enzo Fernandez equalised with five minutes left and Lautaro Martinez won it for Argentina in stoppage time.

‘There are a million coaches after the game who know what to do better. If it doesn’t end up well, it’s easy to say that my decisions were wrong,’ said Tuchel.

Some claimed he blamed the players as he added: ‘After the goal, we dropped back and waited too much, and the crosses and chances kept coming. I tried to help the team.

‘It doesn’t help if we don’t have the ball. We couldn’t get out, of course we wanted to go for the second goal.’

FIFA had banned flags referencing the Falklands from the stadium due to their political significance and the incident is likely to be reported to footballing authorities.

On X, there were calls for Romero to be stripped of the Spurs captaincy and for Manchester United to sell Martinez for their part in the stunt.

Others called for the players to be suspended from the final, while acknowledging how unlikely that was in light of repeated accusations that FIFA and referees have been biased towards the Argentine team during the competition.

Previous financial sanctions have also done little to deter Argentine players from displaying slogans about the Falkland Islands in the past.

In 2014, the Argentine Football Association was fined just £20,000 after its team displayed an almost identical ‘Las Malvinas Son Argentinas’ banner before a friendly against Slovenia.

Authorities are said to be treating this case more seriously as it is on the World Cup stage – in front of England and their fans. Plus, FIFA had banned such banners and threatened disciplinary action to those who broke the rules.

Tensions over the ownership of the Falklands, which are located 300 miles off the coast of Argentina but owned by Britain, had been a major talking point in the build-up to England’s semi-final.

Argentina’s players were captured singing a chant in which they claimed the Falkland Islands were theirs in the aftermath of their last-16 victory over Egypt.

The country’s Foreign Minister, Pablo Quirno, also claimed the people living on the islands had been ‘artificially implanted’ – and that a referendum on British sovereignty was illegitimate.

And after Argentina’s victory, vice-president Victoria Villarruel posted on X that ‘it wasn’t just another match’ alongside a video of what appeared to be Argentine soldiers.

‘The Falklands are Argentine,’ she wrote.

‘They banned bringing them to the stadium and forgot that we carry them in our blood and our hearts.’

In the build-up to the game, Villarruel also branded England as ‘usurping pirates’.

She wrote: ‘Tomorrow we play against the usurping pirates. This isn’t just another match.

‘I’m not going to be politically correct or cold-hearted; against the English, it’s always something more.’

Falklanders were asked in a 2013 ballot whether they wanted the islands to remain under British rule, with 99.8 per cent voting yes.

History of the Falklands

Fascist military leaders in Argentina invaded the British Falkland Islands on April 2, 1982.

At a time of economic crisis, Argentine leaders believed recapturing the Falklands would restore support for the ruling party.

The UK had ruled the islands for 150 years at the time of the invasion, which the junta justified by saying they had inherited the land from Spain in the 1800s, citing the Falklands’ proximity to South America as a further reason.

But Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher deployed a task force to fight on behalf of the traditionally British residents of the Falklands.

In the short war that followed, 649 Argentinians died, along with 255 British servicemen and three islanders.

Following a tough sea battle, British forces made landing to the north of Stanley, before fighting their way in to the capital. The Argentinians surrendered on 14 June

During last night’s match, an impressive performance from the Three Lions at the start of the second half saw Antony Gordon put the side in front.

But disastrous substitutions to send England into a defensive set-up would heartbreakingly backfire.

England were just less than six minutes away from their first World Cup final for 60 years when Enzo Fernandez scored the equaliser that denied them.

This was followed two minutes into injury time by a header from Lautaro Martinez, who secured Argentina’s place in Sunday night’s final against Spain in New York.

England fans complained about the conduct of the Argentinian fans after the game.

One supporter told the Daily Mail: ‘Obviously [we] were upset about the game, walking out the stadium, minding our own business.

‘Some guy, Argentina fan, comes up waving his flag, shoves it in our face, winding us up.

‘You know obviously someone’s going to retaliate, right? But luckily we didn’t retaliate but there’s a lot of animosity.

‘When Argentina scored, an Argentinian guy next to me took his shirt off, waving it, slapping it in my face, absolutely disgusting.

‘Disgusting behaviour from the Argentinian fans, absolutely disgusting.

‘Tonight there’s not enough cops to police all of this. I’m telling you right now it’s going to kick off later in bars and stuff for sure, 100 per cent.’

It was England’s fourth-ever appearance in the final four of a World Cup, making this the most high-stakes match since 1966.

But in a story familiar to long-suffering fans, they just couldn’t keep ahead at the final whistle.

The royals were among those quick to congratulate the team for their impressive run to the semis, with King Charles III taking to social media and writing: ‘Commiserations to Harry and the team.

‘While you Three Lions may be licking your wounds today, you remain the pride of a nation – and will rise again.’

And outgoing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer paid tribute to England’s ‘passion’ and ‘energy’.

Writing on X, he said: ‘Gutted. Tonight wasn’t the result we all hoped for, but this England team has given it their all.

‘The passion and energy they’ve shown representing the badge has made us all proud.’

Blanche Grilled on DOJ Funding and Epstein Documents During Senate Confirmation Hearing

In a potential development brimming with legal intrigue, Blanche has suggested that the Justice Department might delve into allegations of perjury against Jack Smith, the former special counsel. This pertains to testimony Smith provided to Congress concerning his investigation into ex-President Trump’s purported attempts to derail the peaceful transition of power after the 2020 elections.

Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, a prominent Republican, pointed to a cache of documents disclosed by Chuck Grassley on Tuesday. These records reveal that Smith’s investigative team procured text messages from the National Archives and Records Administration. The messages encompassed communications from a notable 44 members of Congress.

According to the Justice Department, one of Smith’s investigators sought broad access to text communications stored in the National Archives. They requested all messages from October 2020 to January 20, 2021, linked to certain White House employees. This request inadvertently captured interactions between White House officials and numerous lawmakers.

The lawmakers spanned the political spectrum, including both Republicans and Democrats whose communications with White House staffers were retrieved by Smith’s team. Republicans such as Grassley, Hawley, Cruz, and Maine’s Senator Susan Collins, alongside Democrats like Senators Cory Booker, Representatives Adam Smith of Washington, and Joshua Gottheimer of New Jersey, as well as former Representative Karen Bass of California, found themselves on this extensive list.

Back in December, House legislators queried Smith over the records he amassed during the course of his investigation. Their focus was on the toll records gleaned from Congressional members. These toll records, which divulge call metadata such as telephone numbers, timestamps, and call durations, notably omit the actual content of any messages.

During one exchange, a House investigator asked Smith whether he sought search warrants for the content of text messages from members, to which Smith answered, “No, I don’t recall that.” He did say he sought a warrant for the toll records.

But Hawley suggested that Smith had lied to Congress when he was asked about the toll records.

“Maybe there’s some nuance I’m missing here, but it seems to me like this guy didn’t tell the truth,” Hawley said. “Have you thought about investigating this guy for perjury?”

In response, Blanche said, “we take testimony in front of this body very seriously. Yes.”

World Cup 2023: Discover the Jaw-Dropping Prize Money for the Champions

0

Winning the esteemed World Cup title next week will not only immortalize a team’s name in football history, but also line their pockets with a significant cash prize.

This year, FIFA has boosted financial rewards to an unprecedented $1.25 billion, setting a new record for the largest prize pool ever in the tournament’s history.

A staggering $938 million is earmarked for performance-based prize money, which marks an increase of nearly 50 percent compared to the $630 million distributed at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The further a team advances, the greater the financial reward they will receive.

This year, the champions, who could be Spain, England, or Argentina, stand to earn US$50 million, equivalent to about $71.7 million. The second-place team will not walk away empty-handed, with a US$33 million ($47.3 million) reward.

Each of the 48 teams receives a guaranteed minimum payment of US$12.5 million ($17.9 million).

That comprises a US$10 million ($14.3 million) qualification payment and a US $2.5 million ($3.6 million) preparation allowance to help cover travel, accommodation and logistics.

The money is paid out regardless of a team’s performance, with the performance-based prize money added on top.

Australia, which placed 22nd after being eliminated in the Round of 32, earned US $11 million ($15.8 million) in performance prize money, in addition to their minimum payment.

FIFA also compensates clubs that release their players for the World Cup through its separate $508 million Clubs Benefits Programme.

TotalPrizeMoneyOverTime.png

The prize pool has grown significantly over the years, increasing nearly fivefold since 2002.

Where does the money go?

While the sums are huge, FIFA isn’t exactly tight for cash.

According to the Reuters news agency, the football governing body was projected to surpass $15.8 billion in revenue in the four-year cycle from 2023 to 2026.

In April, FIFA increased the financial distributions by 15 per cent due to the World Cup’s commercial success.

“FIFA is proud to be in its most solid financial position ever, enabling us to help ‌all our member associations in an unprecedented way,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said at the time.

“This is one more example of how FIFA’s resources are reinvested back into the game.”

FIFA pays the money to the national football federations of each country, which then determine how much players, coaches and support staff receive. Players typically receive between 20 and 30 per cent of the total.

While it is up to the federation how they spend their money, the funds can be invested in grassroots football, new facilities and development pathway programs.

US Troops Facilitate Unloading of China’s Sole Aid Flight to Earthquake-Stricken Venezuela Amid Surge in American Relief Efforts

0

In a significant humanitarian gesture, U.S. troops were seen unloading what was reportedly China’s sole aid flight to Venezuela, as the nation remains in recovery mode following last month’s devastating earthquakes.

Images from the U.S. government depict an Air China aircraft making its landing at Simón Bolívar Airport on July 6, almost two weeks after the seismic events shook the country on June 24.

Upon arrival, the Chinese government’s relief supplies were carefully removed from the plane by American soldiers, who have been at the forefront of coordinating the disaster response and ensuring the prompt distribution of aid.

The photographs shared with news outlets reveal U.S. military personnel methodically extracting substantial packages from shipping containers. Using specialized vehicles, they expertly maneuvered pallets on the airport tarmac, preparing the boxes for onward transportation and distribution to areas in need.

“Secretary Rubio promised the Trump administration’s response to the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela would be big, fast and effective. We continue to deliver on that commitment,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said in a statement to News Media.

“While some countries say they’ll deliver aid — weeks after natural disasters occur — America shows up, unloads the aid and ensures that assistance reaches the hands of those who truly need it thanks to our close coordination with the Department of War and the great public-private partnerships our Department has spearheaded.”

The U.S. has moved more than 1.5 million pounds of assistance into Venezuela since the earthquakes struck June 24, according to the State Department.

A big part of that was repairing Simón Bolívar Airport, which sits just outside the capital city of Caracas after its runways were seriously damaged in the natural disaster.

“The U.S. military was able to repair that airfield and get it up and running to allow for C-17 and other large aircraft to land there. And that’s very important as we continue to obviously get international relief supplies in,” a senior State Department official told reporters in late June.

One runway is operational at the airport, and one of the first American flights into the airport was carrying forklifts to help get supplies unloaded off future flights, according to the State Department official.

Florida-based Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), one of the leading nonprofits gathering and sending aid to Venezuela, said it aims to deliver 100,000 boxes of supplies monthly for the next three to six months, according to The Associated Press.

According to GEM’s website, it has shipped nearly 1 million pounds of aid. This includes over 38,000 hygiene kits, more than 27,000 tents and tarps and 48 generators.

GEM founder and President Michael Capponi told the AP delivering aid to Venezuela now is a “whole different animal” compared to when he tried to send supplies during the reign of Nicolás Maduro.

Maduro, who was captured and deposed during a U.S.-led raid Jan. 3, did not allow Capponi into the country.

“We land a private plane. It gets unloaded by U.S. soldiers. It goes in a truck we pay for and to a warehouse that we completely control. It doesn’t touch the hands of the Venezuelan government,” he said.

The State Department said July 9 that the U.S. government has committed more than $386 million in financial assistance to Venezuela flowing through trusted partner groups.

The Chinese foreign minister announced in late June a $14.72 million commitment for financial and material aid to Venezuela, according to Chinese state-run media.

Nearly two weeks after the earthquakes struck, Chinese state media reported about what they called the first batch of aid arriving at Simón Bolívar International Airport on July 6. State media said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil and Chinese Ambassador to Venezuela Lan Hu received the shipment, said to include tents and generators, at the airport.

In late June, the U.S. also mobilized more than 300 search and rescue personnel throughout the country.

The Miami Herald reported last week that those teams left after they “completed their mission.”

As of Tuesday, 4,734 people have died from the earthquakes, according to figures released by the Venezuelan government, cited by Reuters. Additionally, there are at least 16,740 people injured, while nearly 18,000 people are homeless.

The earthquakes have destroyed 190 buildings and damaged over 850, Venezuelan officials told the AP.

Lindy Li Criticizes Biden in Memoir Launch: A Shift in Democratic Support

0

Lindy Li, once a prominent Democratic fundraiser, contends that President Joe Biden is doing himself no favors by intending to clarify his decision to seek re-election in 2024 amidst growing concerns about his age and mental acuity.

Li asserts that Biden’s forthcoming memoir, “Promise Me, America,” is poised to unearth painful memories that Democrats have been trying to surpass ever since the disappointing showing in the 2024 elections.

In many respects, she perceives the book as a reflective microcosm of Biden’s tenure in office.

“People are thinking, ‘Why can’t you just stay quiet?’ Before I departed from the party, they wanted to distance themselves from him entirely. It got to the point that when Biden finally stepped down on July 21, there was a lack of farewell festivities, apart from a small gathering of staff in the Rose Garden. Absolutely nothing beyond that,” Li remarked.

“Jill has him authoring books that lack readership appeal instead of fully embracing retirement life,” Li added, referring to Jill Biden, the former First Lady.

“Just like she had him out running for president — a presidency that no one wanted, not even Democrats — instead of enjoying his retirement. He should have been in retirement 10, 20 years ago, but they need the money.”

Biden described his upcoming book in a post to X Wednesday morning.

“It’s about the challenges we face as a nation. About the decisions I made and why I made them,” Biden said, igniting mockery on social media. “It’s about why I chose to run for reelection and why I chose to step aside.”

“The first lie of Joe Biden’s book launch: ‘I’ve written a book,’” conservative communicator Steve Guest wrote.

“Joe Biden couldn’t sign his own pardons. Now he’s ‘written’ a book, which Democrats forced him to release after the midterms so he wouldn’t be in the news to remind people how bad he was,” wrote Outkick founder Clay Travis. “Who in the world is buying this book?”

“Who do we think wrote this book,” Daily Wire editor-in-chief Brent Scher wondered.

“Did the autopen write this too,” Missouri Republican Rep. Jason Smith questioned.

Li, who is publishing a new book of her own, “Unburdened,” later this year, was privy to many of the party’s internal discussions, research and panic behind the scenes, which indicated Biden enjoyed only shaky support even among his own camp long before he ultimately dropped out of the 2024 election.

In light of what she knows, Li doubts there is a way for Biden to spin his exit that won’t do further harm to his own image, an image his campaign went to great lengths to protect.

Li recalled how the Biden campaign confiscated her phone at a 2023 event.

“The [Democratic National Committee] was routinely confiscating the phones of top donors with social media followings,” Li said, referring to a party fundraising and campaign group.

“They took away my phone because they knew I was a prolific tweeter. And I posted something on Instagram that night, and a finance director from the DNC called me at around 10 or 11 that same night to instruct me to delete everything from Instagram about Biden that I posted that day.

“The reason is because [Biden] seemed infirm. He seemed weak.”

Now on this side of his presidency, Li believes he will further aggravate Democrats who have wanted to move past the 2024 election and reignite questions of why Biden wasn’t asked to step aside sooner.

“It’s very clear they were trying to hide the fact that instead of having a candidate they could be proud of, they were busy hiding a candidate that they were deeply ashamed of,” she added.

Inside the Tumultuous Divorce of Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO: Unraveling the Chaos

0

On a night of vibrant fireworks painting the sky during the Fourth of July, vivid sparks were igniting a different kind of spectacle in the VIP area of country sensation Jelly Roll’s Goodnight Nashville bar. Here, his former wife, Bunnie XO, was seen in a passionate embrace with a much younger man, over two decades her junior.

Amidst the glow of the fireworks and haze from rooftop smoke, 46-year-old Bunnie, who is no stranger to a past life as a prostitute, was inseparable from reality TV personality Dylan Wolf, aged 24. This new romantic entanglement unfolded against the backdrop of her estranged husband’s buzzing venue, seemingly marking her bold move onward.

Adding another twist to the saga, an episode of Bunnie’s revealing podcast, Dumb Blonde, where she openly discussed her shocking separation from Jelly Roll, mysteriously disappeared from circulation.

Released shortly after the divorce headlines surfaced in May, the podcast episode illustrated a complex emotional landscape. Bunnie spoke of Jelly Roll, 41, as her ‘best friend,’ disclosed his new romantic pursuits, and intriguingly mentioned that they still intend to have a child together despite the end of their decade-long marriage.

Insiders reveal that this emotional rollercoaster mirrors the reality of the couple’s behind-the-scenes tumult, encapsulating a tale of love, transition, and unexpected revelations.

‘It’s messy,’ an insider told the Daily Mail. ‘Everything involving Bunnie is going to be messy right now but the kids are still happening.’

A second insider also said Jelly and Bunnie – real names Jason and Alisa DeFord – are still moving forward with their plans for a surrogate pregnancy.

‘As of right now, Jelly and Bunnie remain committed to expanding their family despite the long and emotional IVF journey they’ve been through,’ the source said.

‘After previously losing embryos, they’re hopeful the remaining embryos will lead to a successful pregnancy through their surrogate. They aren’t giving up even if their marriage is and will remain over.’

In her now‑deleted podcast episode, Bunnie detailed just how brutal that journey has been.

The pair started IVF nearly two years ago and tried multiple times to get pregnant, she said, but suffered four embryo losses.

Jelly also had to ‘get on a bunch of hormones’ after discovering he had low sperm count, forcing him to confront medical issues of his own while juggling a booming career, she said.

In fact, Bunnie suggested that IVF didn’t just test their bodies – it quietly started to dismantle their relationship.

She described the fertility process as the beginning of the end, that the emotional strain and constant disappointment laid the foundation for arguments that ultimately blew the marriage apart.

The tipping point, in her retelling, came on Mother’s Day this year, when a fight escalated and Bunnie snapped at Jelly: ‘Well, then file the f***ing divorce papers.’

What she thought was just a frustrated outburst became a challenge he took literally.

Court documents later showed Jelly filed for divorce days later on May 18, listing May 9 as their official date of separation and citing irreconcilable differences. Then, moving trucks and boxes appeared outside their $6.5million Nashville home as the couple called it quits on their decade-long marriage.

At the time, one insider told the Daily Mail that the couple had ‘disagreements over timing’ of when to have children, and that Jelly’s ‘increasingly demanding career’ contributed to ‘tension’ in their relationship.

Meanwhile, another source highlighted the ‘conflict’ between Jelly’s renewed – and very public – Christian faith and Bunnie’s lifestyle, which they said involves ‘posing mostly naked and talking about porn and penises on her podcast.’

‘Everything involving Bunnie is going to be messy right now but the kids are still happening,’ the source added

The details of the sudden split of such a seemingly enamored couple is perhaps why the disappearance of Bunnie’s divorce podcast episode has become so intriguing.

Because it didn’t just spill on IVF – it was Bunnie’s attempt to control the narrative about their divorce.

Bunnie told listeners that she and Jelly were ‘ending this marriage on the best possible terms,’ praising him for ‘taking care of her in the divorce’ and stressing there was no cheating involved, just two broken people who couldn’t hold it together any longer.

It quickly became one of her most‑viewed episodes ever and generated around $100,000 in revenue.

But, according to Bunnie, her raw vulnerability ‘backfired.’

In her latest podcast episode, she admitted that she didn’t want one of the hardest moments of her life to become a ‘permanent headline,’ frozen in audio forever for fans and trolls alike to replay.

She stressed that if she cared only about money, she would have left the episode up and let it earn ‘another f***ing 100 grand,’ but that healing mattered more to her than downloads.

Our first source, however, suggested there was another reason for pressing that delete button.

The episode was recorded and released immediately after the split went public – and before Jelly and Bunnie sat down to compare notes in private.

‘The podcast was honest and released hours after the public knew and maybe there wasn’t a lot of communication between the two of them,’ the source said.

Once they finally talked, the source added, ‘things that were questioned were answered between them in private,’ and parts of Bunnie’s podcast no longer reflected where they’d landed.

‘The public was trying to scan through it to see things and figure out things,’ the insider said, so the pair decided ‘it was best if it’s just not there for them to look through.’

And while fans dissected the episode like a relationship post-mortem, rumors of infidelity and rebounds swirled.

Jelly and Bunnie tied the knot in 2016, and were together for ten years before splitting up

Jelly and Bunnie tied the knot in 2016, and were together for ten years before splitting up

There was speculation that Bunnie had moved on with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, forcing her to publicly say that there was ‘no Chad and Bunnie Xo,’ and apologize to the singer and his band for roping them into such drama. Meanwhile, Jelly told a concert crowd at the time that ‘nobody cheated on nobody,’ blasting rumor‑mongers as ‘liars.’

Bunnie also revealed that Jelly has already started seeing someone and that she’s ‘happy for him,’ while slamming online rumors linking him to 21-year-old singer‑songwriter Jessie Murph.

With Murph only a few years older than his 18‑year‑old daughter Bailee Ann, Bunnie called the idea ‘absolutely f*****g kind of disgusting’ and ‘disrespectful.’

As for her smooch with Wolf, Bunnie said on her podcast that she isn’t interested in dating anyone and is only ‘here for fun.’ However, she criticized those who filmed the kiss, saying she’s just ‘a woman who’s trying to move on with her life and has been through hell this entire … year.’

And that year from ‘hell’ has clearly taken a toll.

Bunnie said that she had dropped a dramatic 20 pounds since the split, describing how she was not eating nor drinking as she clearly struggled under the weight of the public break‑up.

Jelly, meanwhile, who famously lost almost 300 pounds during their years together, said in a YouTube video on Friday that he had ‘been overeating the last three or four days’ out of stress.

It is all a far cry from where the couple started, getting hitched at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas a decade ago.

Now, those vows are broken – but only time will tell if promises of a baby will come to pass.

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO for comment.

The Valley Recap: Trust Issues Emerge Between Kristen and Janet While Lala Celebrates 7 Years Sober

Drama from the Mexico affair has left Danny scratching his head, while Nia questions the authenticity of their friendships. Amidst the chaos, a new episode of The Valley unfolds, showcasing Jasmine in the throes of wedding preparations and Danny bracing himself for a vasectomy. Meanwhile, Janet remains puzzled over her inability to reconcile with Zack and Kristen.

The Valley Recap: Kristen Tells Janet She Doesn’t Like Her and Calls Her “Mean” as Lala Celebrates 7 Years of Sobriety, Danny Gets a Vasectomy, and Zack Faces Backlash for Unfollowing Janet

The excitement ramps up as Jasmine embarks on her wedding dress journey, accompanied by Zack, Brittany, and her mother. The reality of her impending nuptials hits in waves, especially after discovering the perfect dress by designer Melissa. Zack, reflecting on their long history together, expresses his joy over Jasmine finding true love.

Shopping for a wedding dress has proven to be overwhelming for Jasmine, who candidly shares her mother’s journey to accepting her choice to marry a woman. This experience, shared with her mom, fills Jasmine with excitement for the upcoming engagement celebration. Meanwhile, Danny’s impending vasectomy comically coincides with the big day.

Across the relationship spectrum, Luke is recovering from the exhausting party scenes in Mexico, a revelation that pleases Kristen yet leaves her pondering Jesse’s recent revelations. Doubts creep in as she wonders about Luke’s commitment to their matrimonial future. Although Luke reminds her of his proposal, he acknowledges the drastic changes they now face. Prioritizing their relationship’s stability, the couple embarks on joint therapy sessions before diving into wedding planning.

Luke claims that partying in Mexico wiped him out.  This is music to Kristen’s ears, but what Jesse told her still isn’t sitting right.  She wonders if Luke even wants to be her husband.  Kristen reminds Luke that he asked her to marry him, so where does that leave them? Luke admits that things feel a lot different now than when he proposed and some of the sacrifices are kicking Luke’s a*s. Luke wants them to get their footing as a couple before they start planning a wedding…so luckily they will be doing therapy together.

Lala is having a hard time. She has been with Lily, her dog, since she was 20 years old. Lily was always there for Lala and gave her purpose.  But now, her body has given up on her and things have been emotional.  Kristen comes over to talk about dog stuff, momma stuff, and Mexico stuff.

The last night in Mexico was very chaotic.  Lala questions how Kristen can defend Danny after he told her “why don’t you go to your husband.” Kristen remains in her bubble and can’t deal with other people’s sh*t, considering she is in the thick of her own stuff. Lala lets Kristen know that she has to try and find time to be with her friends.  Lala will be celebrating her 7 year sobriety and so she invites Kristen to get out for a bit.

Danny has Jesse, Schwartz, and Luke over to say bon voyage to his balls. Danny admits that he likes to be cared for and since Nia is not even home as he goes through this procedure (she will be judging Miss USA), his anxiety is through the roof.

As the guys sit down and eat, they discuss Mexico. Jesse says he saw Janet’s vulnerability when she opened up about her past trauma, but he wonders why she wouldn’t say that from the beginning. Danny denies everything and defends himself, considering Janet has changed the pantry story over and over.  He believes that Janet is projecting her own hurt on him.  Jesse would prefer Janet not get as defensive, but Schwartz does not like how quickly the others dismiss her trauma.

Later, Danny is mourning his testicle and he brings Zack along for the ride. The procedure lasted 7 and a half minutes. And Danny yelled for an epidural.

It’s Lala’s sober birthday. Reaching 7 years of sobriety fills Lala with pride. On one hand, she is celebrating, but on the other hand she is emotional because she had to put Lily the dog down. Lala changes the subject and reminds Zack that her favorite part of Mexico was his birthday. She also loved rooming with the girls. Janet points out that Michelle and Lacy actually got along and Janet is now friendly with her.

Speaking of friendliness, at the airport on the way home, Zack followed Janet.  But then the minute he got home, he unfollowed her.  Zack claims he has always wanted to move forward with Janet, but he thinks she has put up multiple roadblocks.  Michelle points out that there is more fun between Janet and Zack when no one else is around.

When Janet wonders what she has done to Kristen in the past year, Kristen states she doesn’t trust Janet and does not even think that she knows her.  Kristen claims that if the version of Janet that she was once friends with still existed, she would be friends with her. Lala thinks that Kristen only remains friends with Danny and Nia because of the fan comments. Kristen does not believe that the group is shattered, but Michelle and Janet think otherwise.

Brittany has taken the lead on Jasmine and Melissa’s engagement party.  Despite going through her divorce, she is thrilled to celebrate the love of the couple. Lala points out that she has yet to get an answer from Kristen or Zack on what makes them so mad at Janet and Janet believes that she has done everything she can, so she would rather just keep the peace.

Lacy chats with Kristen about Janet.  Janet is still unclear what she did to Kristen in the past year, but Lacy points out that one could argue, what did Danny do to Janet in the past year? It’s odd to Kristen that Janet’s trauma and triggers are now coming out timing wise…

Janet joins Jesse and shares that she thinks Lacy brings out the best in him. Jesse is thrilled that everyone is trying to get to know Lacy.  Janet then apologizes for being petty towards Lacy, but Jesse wonders if this is a truly sincere conversation. Janet even goes as far as trying to plan a double-date.  How about baby steps?

The happiest and best version of Jasmine can be found the minute Melissa came into her life.  Jasmine refers to Melissa as the perfect human who loves her no matter what. She is thrilled to be spending her life with Melissa and the episode ends without someone saying Danny’s name…

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE VALLEY PISODE?
