New Documentary Unveils Potential Scott Peterson Case Evidence That May Prove His Innocence

0

A compelling new documentary is poised to shed light on critical, previously unseen evidence that advocates claim could exonerate Scott Peterson, widely known for his conviction in the murder of his wife, over twenty years ago.

Peterson, now 53, has been incarcerated for life in California following a jury’s verdict that found him guilty of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son, Conner, on Christmas Eve in 2002. A significant part of his conviction hinged on allegations that he disposed of Laci’s body using his fishing boat.

The forthcoming two-part documentary by A&E, titled “Scott Peterson: The New Evidence,” scheduled to broadcast on July 16 and 17, promises to unveil newly discovered footage, purported handwritten notes from Laci, and expert analyses. These elements, according to the documentary makers, fundamentally challenge the evidence that led to Peterson’s conviction.

Mark Geragos, who represented Peterson during his highly publicized 2004 trial, expressed to The Post, “I lose sleep—especially with Scott, more than any other case—when I believe [a client] is innocent,” defending his former client’s case.

Geragos, known for representing high-profile figures like Sean “Diddy” Combs, Michael Jackson, and the Menendez brothers, explained, “You develop a sense or intuition, refined through extensive experience, recognizing when someone is culpable or not.”

Peterson has repeatedly failed to overturn his conviction through the appeals courts.

In a tawdry case that grabbed national headlines, the Petersons were a seemingly picture-perfect couple — but in reality, he was cheating on his very pregnant wife with massage-therapist mistress Amber Frey and cruelly killed Laci and their unborn son to pave the way for him to enjoy a jet-setting bachelor lifestyle, prosecutors said.

Years after Peterson’s conviction, in 2024, the Los Angeles Innocence Project took over his case, arguing in court filings that “new evidence now supports Mr. Peterson’s long-standing claim of innocence and raises many questions into who abducted and killed Laci and Conner Peterson.”

The new documentary was filmed to “stress-test” that evidence, according to host Chris Pixley, an Atlanta-based defense lawyer and legal analyst for ABC News.

The nearly three hours of footage kick off with Pixley and retired Los Angeles Detective Ninette Toosbuy retracing Peterson’s Christmas Eve drive to the Berkeley Marina, where prosecutors said he dumped Laci’s body from his small fishing boat.

Pixley and Toosbuy claim it would have been nearly impossible for Peterson to dispose of the body without any witnesses in broad daylight or leaving behind any significant DNA evidence.

Two strands of Laci’s hair were found wrapped around a pair of pliers found under a seat on his boat after her death, although no blood or tissue was recovered from them, and the instrument was rusty from apparent lack of use, according to trial testimony.

The series also reveals previously unseen defense footage showing a weighted dummy, meant to replicate Laci’s body, causing the tiny vessel to capsize while it was being thrown overboard — evidence the jury never saw, the documentary says.

It also highlights handwritten notes allegedly written by Laci that suggest that she knew about Peterson’s purchasing of the fishing boat — undercutting the prosecution’s claim that he had secretly bought it to carry out the killing.

New experts featured in the series also challenge the tidal and wind analysis presented at the trial, claiming that Laci’s body could not have washed up where investigators found it if Peterson dumped it where he was fishing.

Advances in fetal biometric science also suggest that Laci and Conner could have died later than Dec. 24, according to the experts and LAIP — a timeline that casts doubt on the state’s theory that Peterson killed them that day.

Laci spoke with her mother on the phone the night of Dec. 23. By Dec. 25, the Petersons’ Modesto home was swarming with family, investigators, and hordes of reporters.

The documentary, meanwhile, revisits an alternative theory centered on a burglary across the street from the Petersons’ home around the time Laci went missing. It cites seven witnesses who reported seeing a suspicious van in the neighborhood on Dec. 24, including a reserve police officer who allegedly told police he saw a pregnant woman being forced into a van.

A van was later found burned in an apparent arson incident about 1.5 miles away in Modesto’s Airport District – a seedy area where a police dog had allegedly tracked Laci’s scent during the initial investigation, according to the documentary.

Geragos and his defense team didn’t learn about the torched van until more than a decade after Peterson’s conviction, the lawyer said.

Finally, the documentary and the LAIP accuse the Modesto police of mishandling and even destroying potentially significant evidence in the case, including witness interviews, investigator notes, and property recovered from the burglary.

Peterson was initially sentenced to death, but that punishment was later overturned.

The Innocence Project provides pro bono legal help to inmates convicted of crimes in Central and Southern California.

Lindsey Graham’s Passing at 71 Sparks Controversy Among Liberal Circles

0

Certain far-left commentators swiftly responded with controversial reactions to the unexpected passing of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, seizing the moment to express their satisfaction at his death.

Lindsey Graham, who had diligently served as a Senator for South Carolina since 2002, passed away, as confirmed by his office on Sunday morning. The statement indicated that his death resulted from a “brief and sudden illness.”

Authorities responded to a 911 call from Graham’s home on Saturday evening, citing “cardiac arrest” as the issue. However, the exact cause of his death has not been officially determined, according to various sources.

The news of Graham’s passing saw numerous public figures, including former President Donald Trump, as well as leaders from countries like Israel and Ukraine, paying their respects and expressing their condolences. Meanwhile, some liberal voices did not share in the mourning, openly expressing satisfaction over his death.

Among those who reacted was Ana Kasparian, co-host and executive producer of the progressive media outlet The Young Turks, who was seemingly among the first to voice such celebratory sentiments.

At 2.35am, about 30 minutes after it was announced Graham had died, she posted a tweet on X that simply said: ‘Good riddance.’

A few hours later, Kyle Kulinski, host of the popular left-wing podcast Secular Talk, posted a tweet that said: ‘Miserable closet case warmonger.’

The insensitive words seem to refer to decades-long speculation that Graham was a closeted gay man, as he never married or had children. The senator had consistently and firmly denied the rumors and regularly opposed pro-LGBTQ+ legislation.

Hasan Piker, a socialist commentator and streamer with an enormous following online, wrote on X: ‘Lindsey graham was a bloodthirsty odious monster who loved war.’

‘Ironic that he achieved his best friend john mccains dream of bombing iran, only to experience the spectacular failure it turned into in his final days! he watched a century of force projection capabilities collapse,’ Piker added.

Earlier, he replied ‘lmao [laughing my a** off]’ to a tweet mourning Graham’s death that was posted by Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Brian Krassenstein, another leftist political commentator and vocal critic of Trump, posted a tweet that said: ‘Lindsey Graham just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead.

‘He can no longer hurt innocent people! There are clearly a lot of emotions being flung around about Graham dying so suddenly. He was a war monger and diehard Trump Supporter until the very end of his 71 year life.’

Jackson Hinkle, the international secretary for the American Communist Party, posted to his nearly four million followers on X: ‘Lindsey Graham advocated for dropping nuclear bombs on Gaza RIP BOZO.’

Steve Schmidt, co-founder of an anti-Trump political action committee called the Lincoln Project, posted a tweet that said: ‘Lindsey Graham was a simple, tragic man.

‘He lacked a moral core. The great empty spaces of his life were filled with an insatiable need for “relevance.” He found it as a cast member in the most malignant reality show ever made.’

Mike Drucker, an Emmy-nominated writer, producer and comedian, wrote on X: ‘RIP Lindsey Graham. You taught me it was okay to be a coward whose only skill is debasing myself until death for a tiny, ultimately illusionary crumb of power.’

Graham was a controversial figure because of his staunch support of Israel, even as public opinion towards the country declined in recent years. The senator was also steadfast in his support of Ukraine, and he was an Iran hawk.

Graham’s calls to arm Ukraine and Israel, as well as his aggressive stance on Iran, are what led critics, including some on the extreme right, to call him a warmonger.

But the senator was beloved by many Republicans, including Trump. Graham was one of the president’s closest allies in the US Senate, consistently voting to enact Trump’s agenda.

Graham’s death comes just days after he visited Ukraine and met with the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to discuss the ongoing Russian invasion.

His meeting with the leader of Ukraine is understood to be the last public image of him. There were no known concerns about his health in the lead-up to his trip to the embattled nation.

Graham later announced that an agreement had been reached with Trump to advance bipartisan legislation targeting countries buying Russian energy, which would potentially clear the way for stronger pressure on Moscow over its war in Ukraine.

The senator also cheered on Trump’s decision to strike Iranian nuclear sites last year and had been a supporter of the latest conflict that started a few months ago.

Franklin Graham Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Sen. Lindsey Graham as a ‘Strong Fighter

0

Reverend Franklin Graham took a moment early Sunday to pay tribute to the life and contributions of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), following the senator’s unexpected passing.

“I was genuinely shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham yesterday. He had recently visited Ukraine and was supposed to appear on NBC’s Meet the Press this morning,” Reverend Graham shared through a social media update.

“Only God knows the total count of our days on this planet,” he remarked further:

Prior to serving over two decades in the U.S. Senate, Lindsey Graham was a U.S. House of Representatives member. He also dedicated 33 years of his life to the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve, attaining the rank of colonel upon retiring in 2015. Let us keep Senator Graham’s family in our prayers, particularly his sister Darline, whom he helped care for following the deaths of their parents. Known for his steadfast dedication to South Carolina and the nation, his absence will be deeply felt.

Senator Graham passed away late Saturday at 71, succumbing to a “brief and sudden illness,” according to a statement from his office on Sunday, as reported by the news.

He served in the U.S. Senate for over two decades and won the Republican primary in June once President Donald Trump gave him his endorsement.

In a Truth Social post around 2:00 a.m., Trump wrote “Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working, and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!! DETAILS AND ARRANGEMENTS TO FOLLOW. So sad!”

– News noted that “As one of those ‘leading the charge’ for the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act and a strong voice of support for the U.S.’s military actions against the Iranian regime, Graham was a close ally of Trump’s in 2026.”

The outlet cited police scanner audio in stating that emergency crews responded to his residence in Washington, DC, late Saturday for a report of “cardiac arrest.”

Sen. Graham had just returned from Ukraine where he met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had “lost one of its greatest friends” in the senator, according to – News.

“America has lost a great patriot. I have lost a beloved friend. Our hearts are with Lindsey’s family and with the American people at this difficult time. May his values and initiatives continue to guide us toward victory and peace, and may his memory forever be a blessing,” he stated.

Tragic plane crash claims lives of father and son returning from baseball game

0

A tragic accident claimed the lives of a father and his 22-year-old son when their light aircraft seemingly flew into an emerging storm while they were returning from a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game. Investigators noted that the plane appeared to attempt a final turn before it disastrously spiraled into a wooded area in rural Illinois.

The 48-year-old pilot and his son took off from St. Louis Regional Airport in Bethalto on Thursday night, charting a course for Siloam Springs Municipal Airport located in Arkansas. Unfortunately, their journey concluded with a crash near Waterloo, Illinois, according to a statement from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

The tragic victims have been identified as Jimmy Don Lewis and Brayden Ty Lewis, the Monroe County Coroner’s Office confirmed to KSDK.

Investigators have reported that the father and son enjoyed an evening at a Cardinals game before embarking on their return flight in what is believed to have been a Beechcraft Baron 55 private airplane.

“Investigators believe the aircraft departed into an area of developing severe weather,” authorities said. “Flight data indicates the aircraft appeared to begin a turn, possibly in an attempt to avoid the inclement weather, before entering what appeared to be a descending spiral. Radar contact was subsequently lost.”

Emergency crews were dispatched around 2:34 a.m. Friday after reports of a possible aircraft crash south of Waterloo. Search efforts were hampered for hours by low clouds, rain and poor visibility, forcing authorities to rely on a massive multi-agency response that included specialized drone teams from Illinois and the St. Louis region.

An ARCH Air Medical helicopter eventually located the wreckage at about 7:40 a.m. in a tree line near the Columbia Quarry after investigators narrowed the search area.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ family and loved ones,” authorities said after confirming both occupants of the aircraft had died in the crash. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with them during this incredibly difficult time.”

Kelsey Lewis told the Daily Mail that her father and brother earned their pilots’ licenses together, saying the pair “did everything together.” She also described her father as an experienced flyer.

“My dad, when it came to flying, he was very, very, cautious of everything,” Kelsey told the outlet. “Very cautious.”

She said an apparent glitch in the aircraft’s weather-tracking system that caused the readings to be about 30 minutes off could have led to the crash.

Representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration later assumed responsibility for the crash scene, while the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Officials emphasized that the findings released so far are preliminary and that the federal investigation remains ongoing.

Greta Thunberg’s Younger Sister Shines as Emerging Pop Star Sensation

0

Two sisters, each with distinct aspirations.

While Swedish activist Greta Thunberg is widely recognized for her advocacy work, her younger sister is carving her own path through powerful performances and dramatic flair.

In a candid conversation with Interview Magazine, Beata MonaLisa, known as Bea—and yes, her full name is inspired by her grandmother Mona and great-grandmother Lisa—demonstrated that she’s not merely following in her elder sister’s footsteps. Unlike 23-year-old Greta, who fervently addresses climate concerns and social issues, Bea is forging a unique identity.

Bea, a talented and multifaceted 20-year-old, likened her vocal prowess to that of seasoned jazz musicians. In the interview, she revealed that music and dance have been a part of her life since early childhood, despite being subjected to bullying for pursuing her passions.

“During school performances, I often got labeled as annoying,” Bea confessed, reflecting on her experiences.

Her recent cover of the 1949 French song, “Hymne à l’amour” by Édith Piaf, is enough to blow audience’s socks off as they wait in anticipation for her debut album, described as “Pro-queer, anti-macho,” which she revealed at the time of the interview is being finished and something she’s been working on since she was 13, writing every song herself.

“I keep coming back and changing things. There are nine songs, seven are finished…The album’s about the freedom of identity and empowering women,” the 20-year-old, who’s described as a “gay icon,” pointed out to Interview.

To address the activist elephant in the room, when asked about her headline-making sibling, she cooly turned down the question, responding, “I’m not responsible for other people’s lives.”

Clearly, having very different life goals compared to her sister, Bea described success as “Maybe it’s a feeling. You can be worldwide famous and not feel accepted, or you can have a small fan base and feel very successful.”

Similar to her sister, she’s a woman who also has strong opinions and clearly isn’t afraid to voice them.

“I have many straight male producers who tell me how to sing. They want to feel like they’ve taught me. A loud, young female is very provocative, especially to them, because they want to have control,” she explained in the interview.

She admitted to wanting worldwide fame, but to her, “it’s more important to have fans who understand you.”

“They’re very specific. They have the same interests, the same way of dressing, the same humor. I’m very sarcastic,” she described of her fan base.

Infant Faces Breathing Challenges Due to Rare Medical Condition

0

Shortly after little Kinley arrived into the world, her parents noticed an alarming condition—her neck would swell and change to a purple hue each time she cried.

Cristen Gluch had barely had a moment to embrace her newborn before medical staff quickly took the baby away for further examination.

“I was in absolute shock,” Gluch expressed. “One moment, I was holding my beautiful, healthy baby, and the next, something seemed dreadfully wrong.”

Remarkably, despite the concerning symptoms, Kinley’s vital signs remained stable, leaving doctors puzzled as to what could be causing this unusual response to her cries.

When Kinley turned one month old, a pediatrician recommended a visit to a dermatologist, noting that the swelling in her neck had not subsided.

Concerned by what they saw, the dermatologist then sent the family to an interventional radiologist, who ordered tests that revealed the infant had extensive venous malformations – rare clusters of abnormally formed veins that can cause pain, blood clots, or tissue damage. Their incidence is about one to two per 10,000 people.

Most venous malformations are low-flow, with blood moving sluggishly through them. But Kinley’s was high-flow, meaning blood was racing through her neck vessels toward her jugular vein, making it far more dangerous.

This could place immense strain on her heart and blood vessels, increasing the risk of high-output cardiac failure, bleeding or rupture of the malformed vessel.

Moments after Kinley was born, her parents' joy turned to fear when her neck suddenly swelled and turned purple as she cried for the first time

At first, doctors believed they could manage Kinley’s condition with bleomycin sclerotherapy, a minimally invasive procedure that injects medication directly into abnormal blood vessels to shrink them.

But in 2019 during Kinley’s first treatment at just one year old, they realized they were dealing with something far more extensive than anyone had anticipated

‘I will never forget the interventional radiologist coming out of surgery looking so discouraged,’ Gluch, who lives in Utah, said. ‘He was astonished by how large and high-flowing her malformation was.’

The procedure was not the success they had hoped for. During the operation, doctors injected dye to map the malformation and what they saw stopped them in their tracks.

The growth in Kinley’s neck completely lit up and blood was flowing through it so rapidly that the medication would have traveled straight toward her heart and lungs.

The risks were too great to proceed. So doctors decided on the spot that they would treat only the smaller malformations they could safely reach, and leave the dangerous one in her neck to be monitored.

The family had no idea it was just the first in a line of nearly two dozen surgeries Kinley would endure before she turned eight.

At just one year old, Kinley underwent her first sclerotherapy procedure to treat her malformed blood vessels

Two years later, when Kinley was three, she began developing blood clots inside the tangled, abnormally shaped veins that make up her venous malformation.

And because the abnormal veins were directly connected to her jugular vein and major blood vessels leading to her heart and lungs, doctors feared the consequences could be catastrophic.

A blood clot could travel to her lungs, or if the malformation were to burst, it could cause life-threatening internal bleeding.

To buy time, Kinley was placed on blood-thinning injections while her medical team consulted specialists across multiple disciplines.

Eventually, they decided the only option was an extraordinarily high-risk operation to surgically remove the large malformation from her neck.

‘The risk of her bleeding and it not being able to be stopped was significant,’ Gluch said. ‘These malformations can bleed a lot, and Kinley’s was so large and had such high-pressure blood flow running through it.’

Surgeons brought in a microvascular specialist to assist and even removed part of Kinley’s collarbone to gain access to the malformation.

‘During that eight-hour surgery, we genuinely thought we might lose her,’ Gluch said. ‘It was the most terrifying day of our lives.’

The operation was a success. Surgeons safely removed the malformation and Kinley survived with only one blood transfusion.

‘It was after that surgery that I knew our baby was going to be okay,’ Gluch said. ‘The worst was finally behind us.’

Kinley’s journey is not over, though. She continues to undergo bleomycin sclerotherapy treatments every few months to control the remaining venous malformations throughout her face, lip, neck, mouth and airway.

She also suffers from severe obstructive sleep apnea caused by malformations in her airway and wears a CPAP machine every night while she sleeps to deliver a steady stream of pressurized air.

The venous malformations that cover parts of Kinley’s face and neck are frequently mistaken for bruises, making her a target for curious stares.

Gluch acknowledged that Kinley draws a lot of attention because of them. Yet she rarely grows frustrated and simply explains to people that she has extra blood vessels.

Despite everything she has endured, Kinley, now eight, refuses to let her condition define her.

‘She doesn’t like the extra attention and just wants to get back to being a normal kid,’ Gluch said.

‘I’ve had kids ask her about her venous malformations and then tell her they think it’s her superpower. Just like everything else she has faced, it’s no big deal to her.’

Today, Kinley plays on a soccer team and dances on a dance team.

‘She might miss a practice because of surgery, but you can usually count on seeing her right back there the next day,’ her mother added.

Despite years of procedures, Kinley refuses to let her condition hold her back. She tells people she has 'extra blood vessels'

The family’s attention has now shifted to a pioneering clinic in Italy, where a treatment called bleomycin electrosclerotherapy (BEST) is being offered.

While traditional bleomycin sclerotherapy has managed to shrink Kinley’s malformations and keep them in check, it’s never been able to make them disappear entirely.

Doctors have cautioned that the abnormal vessels can continue to expand over time and could worsen during puberty or other hormonal shifts. Without a better alternative, Kinley is looking at ongoing procedures for the foreseeable future.

On top of that, the bleomycin she receives has a lifetime cap. Too much exposure over the years can pose health risks. If she keeps needing treatment every few months, she’ll eventually hit that limit.

At that Italian clinic, doctors are combining the standard medication, bleomycin, with electrical pulses, a technique known as electroporation.

This process temporarily opens microscopic pores in the cell membranes of the malformed blood vessels, allowing the drug to penetrate hundreds, and potentially thousands, of times more effectively than traditional sclerotherapy alone.

BEST takes Kinley’s standard bleomycin sclerotherapy and supercharges it with electrical pulses, allowing it to reach deeper into the tangled vessels.

This enhanced absorption means doctors can achieve better results with fewer treatment sessions and lower doses of bleomycin.

Kinley’s family is heading to Italy soon for the procedure, as the Italian physician there decided that Kinley is a strong candidate.

Doctors will not guarantee a cure, but to Gluch, it’s the closest thing she’s seen for children with vascular malformations.

Kinley loves soccer, dance, and just being a kid. She's always asking to return to practice almost immediately after procedures

‘Our biggest hope is that the malformations can be eliminated,’ Gluch said. ‘No more worries about her airway, no more blood clots, no more surgeries and anesthesia every few months, and no more bleomycin treatments.

‘We hope she can just be a normal kid and not have to worry about an upcoming surgery or someone asking why she looks bruised.’

But with that hope also comes a great deal of uncertainty.

‘Our biggest fear is the unknown,’ Gluch said. ‘Taking a leap like this is scary. Going outside our country for medical treatment is very overwhelming.’

And the emotional and financial strain on the family has been enormous.

‘It has been a rollercoaster,’ the mother added. ‘We’ve had the highest of highs celebrating successful surgeries and milestones, and the lowest of lows wondering if Kinley was going to survive. It’s exhausting.

‘You’re constantly battling insurance, constantly getting bills in the mail, constantly going to appointments and surgeries, and constantly carrying the weight of hoping everything will work out and that you’re doing enough to get your daughter the best care possible.’

The family has health insurance, but Kinley’s care is so costly that they max out their annual limit by February.

The treatment in Italy isn’t covered, so they are facing roughly $60,000 for the surgery and hospital stay alone, in addition to airfare, housing and several weeks of recovery in Italy.

They have launched a GoFundMe to help get them there.

‘There’s a promising potential cure across the world. Of course we’re going to get her there,’ Gluch said.

If there is one person equipped to take on whatever comes next, Gluch is certain it’s her daughter.

‘She is brave, resilient, inspiring, tough and loving,’ she said. ‘She’s the strongest little girl I know.’

Chicago Incident: Officer Opens Fire on Sedan After Driver Dodges Spike Strips Near Grant Park

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — Early Sunday morning, a high-speed chase through downtown Chicago led to an officer discharging a firearm. A driver, part of a group of vehicles accelerating across the city, managed to avoid a tire spike as they headed towards the police, the Chicago Police Department reported.

Authorities responded just after 3 a.m. to a report of a sizable crowd gathered in the 300-block of East Balbo Drive, in the vicinity of Grant Park.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Upon arrival, officers encountered a fleet of vehicles racing down the street, prompting them to deploy a device intended to deflate the tires of speeding cars.

One vehicle, identified as a black sedan, evaded the deflation tool and sped towards an officer standing on duty.

In response, the officer discharged their weapon at the car, striking the vehicle without causing any injuries to those inside, confirmed police.

The officer suffered a minor ankle injury and was treated and released from the hospital.

The sedan’s driver was taken into custody.

No other injuries were reported. CPD’s investigative Response Team is investigating.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is also investigating, and the office involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.

The Truth About Fabric Softeners and Dryer Sheets: What You Need to Know

0

These days, a quick online search can easily lead you to alarming claims about everyday household items being linked to cancer.

Currently under scrutiny are the fabric softener and dryer sheets you commonly use to keep your laundry soft and static-free.

However, the science behind these viral assertions is far more nuanced than one might think. The discussion revolves around the potential health impacts of certain chemicals present in these everyday products.

A person pouring liquid detergent from a bottle into a measuring cup.

While many claim dryer sheets and fabric softener cause cancer, the science behind these products is more nuanced.

It’s important to clarify that fabric softeners and dryer sheets, used to freshen up clothes, do not directly result in illness. They are not formulated with active carcinogenic ingredients.

The concern, rather, stems from certain components within these products that can emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Under certain conditions, VOCs can pose health risks both in the short and long term, contributing to a complex discussion about their safety.

Namely, consumers should keep an eye out for fragrance ingredients, impurities or manufacturing byproducts.

A study from 2011 and one from 2016 found that dryer vents emitted VOCs when fragranced laundry products were used.

Two of the emissions identified, acetaldehyde and benzene, are classified as carcinogenic hazardous air pollutants by the Environmental Protection Agency.

However, further research wasn’t conducted to determine if the emissions cause cancer in people.

Other items may contain blends of VOCs, including phthalates and benzyl acetate, which is often used for a floral scent.

Phthalates have been shown to disrupt endocrines, or natural hormones like estrogen and testosterone, potentially causing reproductive, neurological or developmental issues.

A review of studies also suggests that compounds in scented products — such as phthalates and parabens — have possible links to health concerns like cancer.

However, more research is needed to better understand those links.

Manufacturers may also group multiple chemicals under the name “fragrance” or “perfume” on labels, resulting in unintentional exposure to harmful chemical mixtures.

Unlike detergents, which wash out, softeners are designed to stay in clothing, increasing exposure in two ways: inhalation of the vapors and skin absorption as clothes and bedding make contact with skin.

While there isn’t strong evidence directly linking dryer sheets and fabric softeners to cancer, there could still be some risk.

But experts warn risk factor when using certain laundry products depends on several factors, such as frequency, dose and duration of exposure.

“But because fragrance-related emissions aren’t always obvious from the label, many experts recommend minimizing unnecessary fragrance exposure when practical,” Dr. Krushangi Patel, a medical oncologist at City of Hope, told Parade.

Transform Your Belly: 5 Bed Exercises to Flatten Your Overhang Faster Than Crunches After 55

Looking to shed that stubborn belly fat? You might be surprised to learn that bed-based exercises can be remarkably effective in targeting this tricky area.

>

Few things are more aggravating than a belly overhang when trying to button up your favorite jeans. This unwelcome abdominal fat tends to sneak up on you, especially when regular exercise falls by the wayside as the years pass. Hormonal fluctuations and changes in body composition amplify this issue. For those looking to transform their fitness routine and reclaim their waistlines, we sought insights from Denise Chakoian, a seasoned fitness trainer and the owner of Core Cycle and Fitness LaGree in Rhode Island. With over 16 years of experience coaching individuals across various ages and fitness levels, she shares five bed exercises that promise to help.

These types of exercises not only engage the core effectively but also provide a unique workout environment that differs from the standard gym setting.

Denise explains, “When lying down, your spine isn’t compressed as it would be when standing or sitting, allowing the deep core muscles to engage without the usual tension. The mattress’s softness forces your body to stabilize more, which paradoxically prompts the right muscles to fire up. Because there’s no impact and you’re not supporting your body weight, your joints are spared from stress and load.”

This scenario prompts the activation of muscles responsible for spinal stability, rather than the larger “surface muscles” that tend to dominate during more intense workouts. Such surface muscles, specifically targeted by crunches and similar exercises, do little to address belly fat.

Below, Chakoian walks us through five bed exercises to add to your routine.

  5. Repeat on the other side and continue to alternate.

FBI Collaborates with Police to Investigate 71-Year-Old Lindsey Graham’s Passing

The shocking news of Senator Lindsey Graham’s unexpected death at the age of 71 has prompted the Federal Bureau of Investigation to join local authorities in their ongoing inquiries, a development that further fuels speculation surrounding the circumstances of his passing.

Graham, who served South Carolina since 2002 with a robust reputation in the Senate, was reported to have passed away, according to an announcement from his office early on Sunday, citing a ‘brief and sudden illness’ as the reason.

Details emerged that a 911 call reporting ‘cardiac arrest’ had been made from Graham’s home around 8:30 p.m., although the definitive cause of death has yet to be publicly confirmed, as several media outlets have noted.

In a statement on the social media platform X, FBI Director Kash Patel asserted the bureau’s commitment to providing support to local authorities, ensuring all possible resources were available for the investigation.

Throughout his career, Graham was known as an outspoken advocate for U.S. involvement in international conflicts, such as the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine and hostilities in Iran.

Amidst the July 4th recess break in Washington, DC this past week, Graham travelled to Ukraine, met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, and even visited a drone facility which was later destroyed by the Russians.

Graham has also been targeted by Iranian leaders. An Iranian State TV host noted in a Sunday broadcast that she congratulated ‘the Iranian people on the death U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who has been sent to hell.’

Political commentators, liberal and conservative alike, have stepped up with their own theories about Graham’s cause of death.

Megan Mobbs, Director Center for American Safety & Security at the Independent Women’s Forum, a conservative think tank, noted on X that ‘cardiac arrest tells us how his life ended. It does not tell us why his heart stopped.’

She also added that, ‘given the threat environment, the identities of America’s adversaries, and Senator Graham’s prominent role confronting them, the American people deserve certainty.’

‘That means a complete forensic autopsy, preservation of all relevant biological specimens, comprehensive toxicology and histology, and consultation with federal law enforcement and counterintelligence authorities,’ Mobbs concluded.

Conservative commentator Matt Van Swol shared a video of Graham on X from Ukraine this last week, noting, ‘I’m sorry, but Lindsey Graham dying out of the blue like this doesn’t make any sense at all.

‘We have him on camera yesterday looking perfectly healthy. None of this is making any sense,’ he added.

Right-wing journalist Laura Loomer called for there to be an ‘investigation,’ into Graham’s death, especially as Russian president Vladimir ‘Putin’s advisor Alexander Dugin called for Lindsey Graham to be “flattened” exactly 4 months ago.’

Townhall columnist Dustin Grage, however, shared that he was ‘told by a source in South Carolina that Senator Lindsey Graham has dealt with blood pressure issues since his 40s,’ also noting that, ‘His father also died of cardiac arrest at age 69.’

‘I know the conspiracy theories won’t stop, but sometimes life just happens. Not everything is a conspiracy,’ Grage added.

Top conservative talk radio host Dana Loesch commented on Grange’s post, noting the he agreed with his sentiment that Graham’s death appeared to be ‘sudden, but cardiac issues usually are.’

Trump shared a tribute to the late Senator on Truth Social shortly after the announcement was made.

‘Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working, and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!! DETAILS AND ARRANGEMENTS TO FOLLOW. So sad!,’ Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Graham was one of Trump’s closest allies in the US Senate, consistently voting to enact the president’s agenda. The White House has lowered the flags to half-mast in his honor.

The senator was also a staunch supporter of Ukraine and Israel, and he advised the president on foreign policy matters pertaining to Russia and Iran.

In late March 2025, just a little more than a month after Trump took office, the president posted a lengthy endorsement of Graham, referring to the senator as ‘a wonderful friend.’

Vice President JD Vance posted his own lengthy tribute to Graham on Sunday, who he spent two years with as colleagues in US Senate, specifically adding that Graham ‘fought like hell for the things he believed in, and he was just as willing to go to bat for you when it counted.’

Congressman Jim Clyburn, the only Democrat representing South Carolina in Washington, also offered his condolences, sharing that their ‘political relationship was sometimes partisan and passionate, but always pleasant and productive on behalf of the people of South Carolina.’
