A Colorado municipal leader died Friday after collapsing during a hike on one of the state’s well-known 14,000-foot peaks, where nearby hikers attempted to save him until emergency crews reached the mountain, officials said.
Englewood Mayor Pro Tem Joe Anderson, 45, died Friday morning while climbing Quandary Peak in Summit County, city and county officials confirmed.
Summit County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 6:45 a.m. after receiving a report that a hiker had collapsed and was not breathing on the lower portion of Quandary Peak, Summit Daily reported. The mountain reaches 14,271 feet and is the tallest point in Colorado’s Tenmile Range, which is part of the Rocky Mountains.

Sgt. Mike Schilling told the outlet that other hikers began CPR before first responders arrived and continued lifesaving efforts.
An official cause of death has yet to be determined.
“We are all shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of our friend and council member, Joe Anderson,” Englewood Mayor Othoniel Sierra said in a statement.

“Joe was always there to lend a hand, whether it was in his role as friend, neighbor, pastor or council member,” Sierra said. “This is a tremendous loss for our city and our heart goes out to his family and friends during this time of loss.”
Anderson was elected to represent District 3 on the Englewood City Council in 2019 and won a second four-year term in 2023. His fellow council members elected him mayor pro tem that December.
Before taking office, Anderson served in pastoral roles at local churches and helped found Change the Trend, a coalition focused on homelessness. He also spent years coordinating a community service project that helped seniors and people with disabilities with home repairs.

On the council, Anderson focused on homelessness, affordable housing, infrastructure, economic development and pedestrian and bicycle safety.
He helped guide efforts to repair and expand Englewood’s aging stormwater system after deadly flooding in 2018, and pushed the city to balance the cost of those improvements with what residents and businesses could afford.
Anderson also supported changes to the city’s development rules aimed at lowering housing costs and homelessness, including streamlined regulations and smaller housing units.
Outgoing City Manager Shawn Lewis remembered Anderson as someone who encouraged city employees while also pushing them to improve.
“Mayor Pro Tem Anderson was this rare combination of a constant encourager behind the scenes while simultaneously challenging us as staff to think bigger and do better,” Lewis said.
Lewis called him “one of the most effective, productive and positive council members I’ve ever worked with,” and recalled Anderson offering to pray for him when his parents were hospitalized during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“He cared for me and other staff members as people,” Lewis said. “I’ll never forget the kindness and care he showed to me and I know so many others throughout his time on council.”
The new “it guy” isn’t hiding behind an air of mystery. He isn’t waiting 14 hours to text back just to look unavailable, and he’s definitely not acting like your date slipped his mind.
He is, as Gen Z might put it, chalant.
The viral dating term — basically the opposite of nonchalant — is gaining momentum in modern dating culture, as more women say they’re looking for men who show clear interest, communicate openly and aren’t afraid to be emotionally present. Even enthusiastic.
Put simply: the era of playing it cool is losing its grip. New Yorkers want men who make it obvious they care.
Picture Travis Kelce proudly cheering on Taylor Swift at her concerts, or Tom Holland openly praising Zendaya at film premieres — men who appear entirely comfortable being visibly, publicly devoted to the women they love.
For New Yorker Jason Henley, 34, being openly obsessed is kind of the point.
Henley has been with his girlfriend, Hannah Alderman, 32, for nearly four years — and has happily abandoned the idea that romance should be kept under wraps.
“I absolutely identify as a ‘chalant’ man,’” Henley told The Post.
Henley said he once felt pressure to play it cool because modern dating can make genuine affection feel “cringe.”
“I’ve felt pressure to play it cool when dating as a man. I think it’s hard not to when everything is labeled ‘cringe’ nowadays,” he said.
But after nearly four years with Alderman, he has little interest in pretending not to care.
“But I’m also 34 and 4 years into the best relationship of my life so I’ve given way to all that comes with ‘corny’ and romance and the softness of being tender in public and on social media,” he said.
“It feels good to be proud of the person I’m with and to let the world know it from the top of the mountain that my heart is hers to have,” he said.
His Gothamite girlfriend is very much on board.
Alderman said she had dated nonchalant partners in the past and never stopped wanting the kind of passionate romance she grew up watching.
“I find it ironic that as young girls, we grow up watching Disney movies or rom coms where women are quite literally treated as princesses. Then, as we grow up and get older, some of that whimsy starts to fade and we settle for mediocre love along the way,” Alderman told The Post.
These days, she knows exactly what she wants.
“A ‘chalant’ partner looks like someone who gives a damn. He shows up no matter what. He loves me out loud and isn’t afraid to be perceived as corny,” Alderman told The Post.
For her, that openness translates into security.
“It means feeling absolutely secure in the relationship and having a solid foundation of trust. We talk through things, make each other feel celebrated, and can admit when we are wrong,” she said.
Henley believes ‘chalant’ dating also requires being comfortable with vulnerability — not simply showering someone with attention.
“I think being ‘chalant’ comes from being in touch with a more feminine energy in yourself, a side that is softer and more lighthearted, a more whimsical, je ne sais quoi energy that grounds you in your ability to be unafraid of your emotions and your softness,” he said.
For Henley, that is a far cry from the situationship-heavy dating culture he encountered before meeting Alderman.
“I’ve always felt like the modern situationship environment that dating is feels so toned down and lacking in any kind of substance,” he said.
And the couple isn’t alone in wanting to retire the dating games.
NYC dating coach Niko Emanuilidis, who has built a following teaching men how to cultivate what he calls “daddy energy,” is firmly on Team Chalant.
As Emanuilidis previously told The Post, “Daddy energy is all about being your most authentic self.”
Now, he thinks the era of deliberately withholding affection has officially run its course.
In a recent TikTok, Emanuilidis declared that “The nonchalant dating approach needs to end in 2026.”
The distinction, he argues, is that showing interest is only unattractive when it comes from insecurity and neediness. A confident man, by contrast, can tell a woman he likes her because he’s not terrified of what happens if she doesn’t feel the same way.
He later summed up the trend even more simply: “We need less nonchalantness in dating and more ‘chalantness.’”
Dr. Sabrina Romanoff, a Harvard-trained clinical psychologist and relationship expert at Hily Dating App, thinks that an appetite for open affection is a reaction to years of defensive dating.
“Chalant dating is resonating with so many young daters right now because people are fed up with the defensive and withholding dating cultural standard,” Romanoff told The Post.
“Without taking a risk, showing your interest or care, it’s impossible to truly make a connection.”
And in a dating world where potential matches are only a swipe away, playing hard to get may actually make you easier to forget.
“With the ease of access for potential new connections, playing hard to get is no longer effective, and in fact may make it easier for a partner to overlook you,” she said.
There’s also a psychological payoff to knowing exactly where you stand.
“The most important benefit of dating someone who is ‘chalant’ is that it’s emotionally safe and calming,” Romanoff said.
“Someone who is ‘chalant’ tells you where they stand, makes their interest in you known, and in turn, doesn’t keep you constantly guessing or on your toes.”
Because sure, the romantic rollercoaster can be thrilling. But eventually, you’re going to want to get off.
“Having to guess if they’re in or out may seem exciting initially, but that rollercoaster gets old quickly, and eventually you’ll want off that ride,” Romanoff said.
Still, there is a line between chalant and please-call-my-mother-I-have-lost-the-plot.
Romanoff cautioned that too much enthusiasm too quickly can cross into love-bombing or boundary-pushing. Her prescription for early dating? Show interest without abandoning your own life.
Her advice is simple: Don’t manufacture delayed texts or pretend you’re too busy to care. Tell someone you enjoy spending time with them — then see what they do with that information.
“Do they get turned off? Good! This saves you so much time. Do they meet your ‘chalant’ with their own? Good, now you know you’re on the same page,” Romanoff said.
For fellow New Yorker Jae Marie, 31, the appeal of ‘chalant’ dating is less about bouquets and more about whether a man is actually paying attention.
Marie said that when she was younger, “going with the flow” seemed like the default dating strategy. But that laissez-faire approach eventually became synonymous with endless situationships and men who had no idea what they wanted.
Now, she wants intentionality.
Her definition of a ‘chalant’ man is perhaps the most Big Apple-specific test of all: If he can memorize sports statistics, he can remember your java order.
“If you can tell me what the score was for the Giants game week 2 last year and how many yards whoever rushed, you should be able to remember what my coffee order is,” Marie said.
She’s not asking for a private jet or a reservation at Eleven Madison Park.
She wants someone who watches the reels she sends, waits to watch a show together, comes to her open mic night and remembers that she hates coconut.
NYC denizen Alexis R. Posey, 40, learned that lesson after years of dating emotionally unavailable partners.
For a long time, she “didn’t even recognize nonchalance as a pattern.”
When she finally met someone direct and intentional online, her first instinct was to wonder if it was too good to be true.
Then he did something she considered remarkable: He sent her a photo of his ID before they met in person, so someone could check on her if needed.
“That is what chalant looks like to me. Not grand gestures. Just someone who thought about me before I got there,” Posey said.
Ilana Schachter, 25, said she spent years navigating people who treated emotional detachment as a dating strategy, leaving her wondering where she stood and feeling like she was doing the emotional heavy lifting.
Now she wants consistency over coolness.
She also thinks celebrity couples like Swift and Kelce have helped make visible affection feel less embarrassing.
“For a long time, dating culture often suggested that whoever cared less had more power,” Schachter said.
“Now, I think more people are realizing that genuine confidence comes from being emotionally available and intentional, not from pretending you don’t care.”
A forgotten vintage Swiss watch discovered in a late mother’s jewellery box has stunned auction watchers after selling for £59,000.
The 1930s Patek Philippe wristwatch far exceeded its pre-sale estimate, with specialists initially placing its value at around £5,000.
The rare timepiece came to light during a house clearance at a property in Camborne, Cornwall, and went under the hammer at Hansons Auctioneers in Penzance on Tuesday.
Made from stainless steel, the luxury watch had spent years tucked away among old jewellery, its significance seemingly overlooked.
The seller, the owner’s daughter, said she recalled her mother mentioning that she owned a valuable watch, but she had no idea it could command such an extraordinary price.
She added nobody expected the treasured family heirloom to be worth almost 12 times its estimate.
Darren Ashley, senior valuer at Hansons Cornwall, said: ‘When I finally had the watch in my hands and was able to examine it properly, I knew we had something extremely rare.
‘Patek Philippe produced very few stainless steel watches during this period and that rarity makes surviving examples incredibly desirable to collectors.

It is believed their grandmother, who had a love for designer clothes and luxury items, bought it as a gift for her husband decades ago.
Potential buyers emerged from America, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia and the UK before the watch was sold to a phone bidder in Hong Kong.
Mr Ashley added: ‘The pre-sale interest was phenomenal. We had interest from serious collectors across the world, but nothing quite prepares you for watching that level of bidding unfold in the room.
‘Having three members of the family there made it even more special. They were absolutely thrilled, while other members of their family were following the auction live from work on their laptops and phones and couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

The British Army is turning away more than 200 would-be recruits a day, even as it continues to miss its annual recruitment targets — a pattern that has persisted every year since 2010.
New figures show that nearly 74,000 people who applied to join the Army were rejected in 2024-25, an increase of around 20,000 compared with the previous year.
Medical issues accounted for the largest share of failed applications, with more than 32,000 candidates ruled out for conditions such as psoriasis, diabetes or severe food allergies. A further 360 applicants were rejected because of tattoos or piercings.
Applications from Commonwealth nations also made up a significant proportion of rejections, with 22,000 candidates turned down because of rules capping foreign recruitment at 1,350 people a year.
The Army’s annual recruitment requirement is understood to be about 11,000 personnel — the approximate number needed each year to replace service members leaving the armed forces.
The shortage comes as Russian threats towards the UK intensify, following revelations that British drones were used in attacks by Ukraine.
The size of the British Army is at its smallest since the Napoleonic era, with just 75,000 full-time trained soldiers.
In the 2023-24 financial year, the army failed to reach its target of 10,450 troops by nearly 4,000.

The government’s strategic defence review, published in June last year, advised increasing personnel to 76,000 when funding is possible.
Shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge said Britain requires a government ‘willing to commit to funding more recruits right now’.
He also accused the Labour Party of kicking the plans for higher personnel numbers ‘into the long grass’.
‘With Russia ramping up its threats every day, Labour needs to be growing the armed forces and strengthening our deterrence,’ he added.
Applicants are still being rejected for tattoos and piercings, despite the army relaxing its rules on tattoos more than 10 years ago.
Tattoos on the head and face are still considered ‘unacceptable’, while ink portraying ‘sex acts, violence or illegal drugs’ and piercings which ‘change the way you look’ are also not allowed.
It comes amid claims that Russia is poised to attack Britain – and has singled out a drone factory and a missile company as ‘legal targets’.

Gal Gadot appears increasingly ready to pass on Wonder Woman’s iconic lasso.
The actress portrayed Diana Prince for close to 10 years, first making a striking debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. From there, Gadot led two standalone Wonder Woman films and returned to the role in Justice League along with several other DC appearances. But after James Gunn and Peter Safran assumed control of DC Studios and began rebuilding the franchise into a new DC Universe, fans have continued to wonder whether Gadot’s version of the Amazon warrior could still have a place in that future.
For now, that possibility seems unlikely.
During a recent interview with ScreenRant while promoting her new Prime Video thriller The Runner, Gadot was inevitably asked about Wonder Woman and her potential DCU future. Asked whether she had been in talks with Gunn or DC Studios about returning as Diana — or even taking on a different character, much like Jason Momoa’s shift from Aquaman to Lobo — Gadot said there have not been “any specific conversations.”
When pressed on the last meaningful discussion she had about reprising the role, Gadot said it came when “they came to the studio, and they really wanted to develop the third one.”
Since then, she hasn’t “heard anything.”
That’s hardly an official goodbye, but Gadot’s comments about the next Wonder Woman sound pretty definitive. Rather than tease a possible return, she offered her support to whoever eventually steps into the role.
“This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it’s going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character,” said Gadot. “And I’m just grateful that I was granted the opportunity to wear her boots and celebrate this incredible character and everything she stands for.”
Gadot’s final appearances as Wonder Woman came as the previous DC universe was winding down. She popped up in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash, and her cameo in Shazam! briefly gave fans reason to wonder whether there might still be a place for her in whatever came next.
That movie’s post-credits scene certainly didn’t hurt the speculation. It brought back Steve Agee‘s John Economos and Jennifer Holland‘s Emilia Harcourt, prompting some fans to wonder whether Shazam! was quietly establishing a connection to Gunn’s future DCU. Gunn later clarified that the scene wasn’t considered canon.
Until now, there hadn’t been much to report on Gadot’s status. Gunn had previously said that a new Wonder Woman hadn’t been cast, but neither he nor Gadot had offered much insight into whether she might eventually return.
The new Wonder Woman movie is still in development, with Ana Nogueira writing the script after her work on Supergirl. She’s also involved with the broader creative side of the new DCU, which is gradually filling in the gaps left by the franchise’s reboot.
That hasn’t stopped fans from imagining other ways Gadot could turn up in the DCU. Jason Momoa’s casting as Lobo in Supergirl made it clear that Gunn isn’t necessarily opposed to bringing familiar DC stars back in completely different roles. Gadot has subsequently been fancast as characters including Big Barda, Talia al Ghul and Poison Ivy.
For now, though, there’s no indication that any of those ideas are actually in the works. And considering Gadot’s comments, it sounds like she’s perfectly comfortable leaving Diana Prince behind.
After playing one of DC’s biggest characters for years, Gadot has also had plenty keeping her busy outside the superhero franchise, from Disney‘s live-action Snow White to Netflix‘s Heart of Stone and her upcoming Prime Video thriller The Runner.
Wonder Woman’s next chapter is coming. It just probably won’t have Gal Gadot in it.
The Justice Department on Thursday released a report outlining how the FBI tied some traditional Catholic beliefs to domestic extremism and scrutinized two priests during the Biden administration.
The findings, issued by the DOJ’s Weaponization Working Group, focus on a 2023 internal FBI document produced by the bureau’s Richmond Field Office and referred to as the “Richmond Domain Perspective.”
According to the Justice Department, the FBI assessment connected views widely held by many conservative Catholics with concerns about violent extremism. The materials pointed to practices and positions such as the Traditional Latin Mass, opposition to abortion, conservative family values and a “rejection of modernity” as potential warning signs.
The DOJ said agents looked into two priests, tracking their travel and communications as part of the inquiry. The FBI later determined there was no evidence linking either priest to criminal conduct or violent extremism.
The report further concluded that the FBI drew on biased and unverified sources, including Southern Poverty Law Center publications and foreign intelligence materials, without conducting an adequate review of their reliability.
Internal FBI reviews later determined that the Richmond assessment wrongly mixed Catholic doctrine with violent extremism and failed to consider First Amendment protections, according to the DOJ.
Despite those findings, the department said FBI leaders took little corrective action. Employees involved in producing the document received positive performance reviews, and officials in the Richmond office continued defending and refining the assessment, even after it was removed from FBI systems.
President Donald Trump ordered a review of the weaponization of federal agencies shortly after returning to office in January 2025. The DOJ said it reviewed more than 1,800 pages of internal emails, assessments, and investigative records while preparing the report.
The department has since removed key FBI employees responsible for the Richmond document.
“This Department of Justice will not tolerate a weaponized bureaucracy that chills First Amendment activity,” Attorney General Todd Blanche said. “The individuals who developed the Richmond Domain Perspective are no longer with the Department.”
FBI Director Kash Patel said the employees behind the Richmond Catholic memo have been held accountable and vowed to prevent similar abuses, “Weaponization will never be tolerated at this FBI. Even while those who developed the unacceptable Richmond Catholic memo under the previous administration have been held accountable, releasing information to the public about what occurred under the prior regime is an important part of the process. I want to thank the Weaponization Working Group for their partnership as well as Attorney General Todd Blanche for his leadership addressing these abuses and making sure they never happen again.”
Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas has been drawn into a fresh “fix” debate after her past connection with celebrity contestant Dani Dyer came to light.
The revelation has sparked questions among some fans about whether the close bond between Shirley, 65, and Dani, 30, could lead to claims of favouritism when the new series gets under way.
Their relationship dates back to 2019, when the pair joined forces for a gruelling Mount Kilimanjaro trek in aid of Comic Relief.

A source did add however that Shirley also did the hike with Dan who previously took part in Strictly and ‘was able to objectively judge him’ – even voting him out in a dance off.

Earlier this month the show was embroiled in another ‘fix’ row as it was claimed nine of the celebrities have past dance experience.
Throughout the years, the BBC dancing show has come under fire for signing up stars who have some form of dancing or performance history, and it appears that this year is no different if new reports are to go by.
The Sun reports that with nine out of the 15 celebrities having past experience, 60 per cent of the cast will have an advantage over their fellow competitors.
Among those who have dance or performing arts experience, Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb was a former pupil at The Dance School of Scotland for two years.

Prior to appearing on Love Island, Cach Mercer worked as a professional dancer with a specialism in Hip-hop and Afrobeats, while Dani was quoted as calling herself a ‘qualified dancer’ in her 2019 autobiography.
As a child, the fellow Love Island winner attended O’Farrell’s Stage School in east London on weekends for 12 years.
Meanwhile, EastEnders star Lacey also had experience in her younger years, attending Sylvia Young Theatre School, while as a child, singer Delta Goodrem had lessons in dancing, singing and acting.

Mary Carole McDonnell, the former head of Bellum Entertainment, once oversaw a television company known for producing true-crime programming as well as a feel-good home renovation series. Now, the onetime chief executive is wanted by the FBI in connection with a federal fraud case prosecutors say involved millions of dollars.
Federal prosecutors allege McDonnell fled to Dubai after falsely claiming access to an $80 million trust and using fabricated trust-company records to secure a $15 million loan, ultimately receiving about $14.7 million from Banc of California. The former host of Bellum’s makeover show said he was shocked when a reporter informed him of the allegations this week.
Antonio Sabato Jr., who hosted the syndicated series “Fix It & Finish It,” said he had no idea McDonnell — whom he recalled as the business figure behind the program — was facing a federal case.
“I didn’t know anything at all until you guys called,” Sabato told News Media.

McDonnell was indicted in federal court in 2018 on five counts of bank fraud and two counts of aggravated identity theft.
Investigators say that McDonnell is wanted on charges of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with the alleged scheme carried out in Los Angeles and Orange counties between July 2017 and May 2018, the FBI said.

“Beginning in approximately July 2017 and continuing to May of 2018, McDonnell is alleged to have knowingly, and with intent to defraud, devised and participated in a scheme to obtain money, funds, assets, and property owned by Banc of California,” the FBI said.
Federal investigators say McDonnell posed as an heir to the McDonnell Aircraft family and falsely claimed she would eventually gain access to an $80 million secret trust.
She was allegedly able to obtain approximately $14.7 million from Banc of California, although she knew she was not authorized and did not repay it. She used similar methods to defraud other financial institutions of more than $15 million, according to the FBI.
The bureau’s active wanted notice says the agency believes she is currently in Dubai. A federal arrest warrant for McDonnell was issued on Dec. 12, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
Sabato told News Media he was hired as the host, creator and producer of “Fix It & Finish It” and was not involved in Bellum’s finances. The series sent him and a small crew from city to city to renovate homes for families in need, he said.

He described the show as physically demanding but deeply meaningful work, with the team completing a different home project each weekday.
“It was called ‘Fix It & Finish It,’ but it was really fixing their souls,” Sabato said. “I’ve seen grown men, grown women, just [in] tears.”
Sabato said he had no firsthand knowledge of the allegations against McDonnell and did not see warning signs at the time. He also said he was never contacted by the FBI or other federal investigators after the indictment against McDonnell was filed.
Instead, he said, he remembered McDonnell as a polished executive who spoke about Bellum’s shows and the potential of the renovation series during meetings at the company’s Burbank office.
Sabato said the show’s sudden end had long puzzled him and now he was left “speechless” after learning the extent of McDonnell’s alleged fraud.

“It felt weird,” Sabato said when Bellum canceled the hit renovation series. “And I said, something’s going on. I just felt something was up. And then my producer called me and said that they pulled the plug.”
He said the criminal case has now given him a new context for the company’s financial troubles.
“I would want to ask her someday, ‘Why did you do that? Why would you go and create this hell?'”
News Media has reached out to U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Banc of California and the FBI’s Los Angeles field office for comment. An attorney for McDonnell was not immediately available.
Investigators say they believe that McDonnell is currently in Dubai and describe her as a White female, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds, with blonde hair, blue eyes and a scar on her right knee.

William Jewell College is mourning the death of junior running back MicahJo Barnett, who suffered a medical emergency on the sideline during Saturday’s season-opening football game against Fort Lewis College. Officials said the incident occurred shortly after Barnett had scored a touchdown for the Missouri-based Division II program.
Authorities in Liberty, Missouri, released limited information about the emergency, saying first responders stationed at the game treated a player roughly 20 minutes after kickoff. The player was then taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, according to police.

The athlete was later pronounced dead at the hospital and was identified by William Jewell College as Barnett. Officials did not immediately disclose additional details surrounding the medical emergency.
In a tribute shared on the William Jewell football website, the college posted the headline, “Jewell Mourns Loss of Football Student-Athlete MicahJo Barnett.” The memorial featured a black-and-white photo of Barnett along with the message “Forever a Cardinal” and the years 2005-2026.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with MicahJo’s family, our students, the Cardinal Football family, and the rest of our community during this time of loss,” the school’s statement said.
According to online game statistics, Barnett scored on a 1-yard run with 5:15 remaining in the first quarter. The game was then stopped with 4:32 left in the quarter, after Fort Lewis College punted the ball out of bounds. Barnett had six carries for 30 yards and a TD when play was suspended and with the Cardinal leading 7-0.
William Jewell officials encouraged students and staff to connect with the school’s counseling service and the office of the chaplain. The school also scheduled a vigil in honor of Barnett and his family for Saturday night.
Barnett was from Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and was opening his third season at William Jewell. In his first two seasons, he combined for 108 carries for 457 yards and six touchdowns in 13 career games.
During his senior high school season at Liberty North, Barnett combined for 1,450 all-purpose yards and scored 20 TDs to earn all-Missouri state honors and part of a state championship-winning team.
