Giants Bullpen Stumbles Once More in Defeat to Rockies

0

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants’ bullpen often finds itself in trouble, even when things seem under control. A recent matchup against the Rockies continued to illustrate this pattern.

On Friday night, the Giants were just one inning away from securing a victory dominated by their bullpen against a fellow National League West rival. This would have marked their second such triumph in a week’s time.

Yet once more, their plans unraveled just shy of crossing the finish line.

Dylan Smith managed to regain his footing in a subsequent appearance. After allowing a decisive three-run homer in Colorado just five days earlier, Smith impressively navigated through a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the seventh inning, marking one of the most remarkable relief efforts by a San Francisco pitcher this year.

Later, Rafael Devers delivered a pivotal hit, granting the Giants a narrow lead late in the game. This had all the makings of a redemption tale for one of the league’s most beleaguered bullpens.

Turns out, there’s a reason these relievers aren’t considered reliable.

Tasked with closing out the one-run advantage, Caleb Kilian allowed the first three batters he faced to reach base, including a walk to pinch-hitter Troy Johnston, and allowed all three to come around to score in what turned out to be yet another agonizing loss, 4-3.

It was only made more painful by the false hope in the bottom of the ninth. Colorado closer Jordan Romano issued three walks, a confusing play went in the Giants’ favor upon video review and Rafael Devers made it a one-run game with his third RBI of the night.

But, even after Cole Carrigg was shown conclusively to have trapped a line drive off the bat of Casey Schmitt to load the bases with one out, Bryce Eldridge grounded out on the first pitch he saw from Romano’s replacement, Juan Mejia, who earned a one-pitch save for getting out of the fraught situation.

Dylan Smith escaped an even stickier jam, entering with the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth, but four clean innings, it turned out, was too much to ask of this group of relievers.

That, however, was the situation manager Tony Vitello was facing when he came out to get Robbie Ray with nobody out and the bases loaded in the sixth inning.

Ray walked the first three batters of the inning, finishing five-plus innings with six in total, setting up Smith to enter just about the stickiest situation imaginable.

But, against all odds, he got Tyler Freeman to pop out on a first-pitch slider, worked his way back from a 2-0 count to strike out Willi Castro and benefited from the glovework of Luis Arraez, who cleanly fielded a sharp grounder off the bat of Mickey Moniak for the third out.

Kilian, on the flip side, pitched himself into trouble he couldn’t escape. He was handed the loss and a blown save, his third in 11 opportunities. He has allowed nine earned runs in his past six appearances, raising his ERA to 4.74 from 2.97 before his last blown save.

Last week at Colorado, Giants relievers had limited the Rockies to just one one over seven innings in the final two games of the series before Smith served up a three-run homer to Kyle Karros in their 7-6 loss. Once again, the dam proved incapable of holding.

What it means

Falling to 3-5 against the NL West’s perennial bottom feeders, the Giants have now lost as many games to the Rockies this season as they did in 2024 and 2025 combined (21-5).

Who’s hot

Devers was responsible for all of the Giants’ runs, leading off the second with his 19th home run of the season to put them ahead 1-0, and finished 3-for-3 with an intentional walk and a sacrifice fly.

The solo shot, which he golfed onto the arcade in right field, was his 17th homer in his past 58 games dating back to May 6, when he hit his third of the season. At the time, Devers was on pace for just 14 over 162 games.

Now, if he can slug one more in the next two games, he would become the first Giants hitter since Barry Bonds to go into the All-Star break with at least 20 home runs.

Who’s not

Ray continued to limit runs, yielding three or fewer for the sixth time in his past seven starts to lower his ERA to a rotation-best 3.38, but the way he got there was concerning.

He put six runners on base via walks, including the first three batters he faced in the sixth. Shockingly (or not), it was still one away from a season-high seven back on May 24.

The left-hander struggled to land his pitches for strikes most of his time on the mound, finding the strike zone on only 53 of his 100 pitches, and it eventually caught up to him.

Ray threw only one strike to each of the three batters he walked to begin the sixth.

The one walk by Kilian, however, came back to hurt them the worst.

Up next

Tyler Mahle will try to complete five innings for only the second time in four starts since returning from a hamstring strain. It will be a rematch from the last time he took the mound, also against the Rockies, who got to him for four early runs in an eventual 7-6 loss last week at Coors Field.

Surprising Early Rate Cuts on the Horizon: The Hidden Twist Revealed

0

If you’re one of many affected, you may not even be a Telstra subscriber. The network’s disruption this Wednesday caused a dip in their share price, impacting many.

Nevertheless, what shook the share markets more was the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, a factor that drove oil prices up and foreshadows higher fuel costs in the coming weeks.

In brighter news, the Australian sharemarket celebrated the debut of a new company, marking a successful entry.

Additionally, a major bank in the country now forecasts that interest rates could drop sooner than anticipated, contingent upon an initial rise.

Petrol prices rise, but less than feared

Meanwhile, Australian motorists are feeling a pinch from the government’s move to scale back the temporary reduction in fuel excise.

The national average price of unleaded petrol rose by 3.2 cents a litre during last week to just under $1.63 a litre.

While prices increased, the rise was far smaller than the 16 cents a litre experts feared after the fuel excise discount was halved.

Lower global oil prices initially negated the impact, but the renewed conflict in the Middle East this week saw Brent crude rise again, approaching US$80 ($115) a barrel.

This increases the likelihood that fuel prices could jump in the coming weeks, despite higher fuel shipments in June this year compared with June 2025.

Rate cuts coming earlier, but more hikes first

Westpac now expects the first RBA rate cut to come in 2027 instead of 2028, bringing it into line with the other major banks.

However, chief economist Luci Ellis still believes the Reserve Bank will need to lift interest rates twice before then because inflation risks remain.

The former RBA assistant governor says inflation was high before the war, and while some businesses are passing on higher fuel costs, other factors are contributing to it like stronger prices for electronics because of AI demand.

For borrowers, it means mortgage rate uncertainty is unlikely to disappear any time soon.

Telstra’s network outage woes hit investors

While Telstra customers and businesses were disrupted by the network outage on Wednesday, its shareholders also took a hit.

Shares tumbled 3.3 per cent since the outage took place.

The company is one of Australia’s most widely held stocks, with many investors likely to have a direct stake following its first float in 1997, while others would have exposure through their super funds.

Australia’s biggest IPO of the year attracts investors

Construction company FDC Consolidated became Australia’s biggest IPO of the year after raising $400 million.

Its shares surged 17 per cent on debut on Thursday before closing more than 12 per cent above the offer price on day one and adding another 3 per cent on day two.

It’s suggesting investor appetite for new listings remains high following record demand for SpaceX, which was the first time Australian retail investors got access to a major US company in a Wall Street IPO.

The challenge however is to attract more companies to list on the Australian sharemarket, with only 17 added to the boards this year.

Judge Tyler Robinson Criticized for Controversial Delay in Charlie Kirk Trial

0

The decision by a judge to delay ruling on whether to proceed with a trial for Tyler Robinson, the individual accused of attempting to assassinate Charlie Kirk, has ignited frustration and raised eyebrows.

Following a five-day series of pre-trial hearings to establish probable cause, Utah District Judge Tony Graf announced that he would postpone his decision regarding Robinson’s trial until September 1.

Many had expected Judge Graf to declare his decision at the end of the final hearing on Friday. However, in a swift legal filing, Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika, urged the judge for a ‘prompt’ ruling, citing what she termed ‘overwhelming evidence.’

Both the prosecution and defense teams requested additional time to review the hearing transcripts and prepare their briefings. Consequently, Judge Graf has scheduled another hearing, set for nearly two months from now.

Joshua Kolsrud, a lawyer and criminal defense attorney, expressed to The Daily Mail that he found the postponement to be ‘extraordinary.’

‘It is very unusual,’ Kolsrud said. ‘I have never seen a two-month delay on a probable cause hearing decision in my 19 years in law.’

Kolsrud said Graf’s inexperience as a judge, with less than a year on the bench, may have played a role in the hearings ‘taking up so much time.’

‘The judge takes every objection way too seriously,’ he said. ‘Some are clearly nonsense and an experienced judge would be quicker.’

The experienced trial lawyer said he has often seen judges come to quicker decisions at probable cause hearings. They have a lower burden of proof required to move forward than that expected of prosecutors in an actual trial.

‘These hearings are are really about, ‘how much smoke is there to know if there is a fire?’ And the prosecution clearly met that,’ Kolsrud said.

Soon after Graf concluded Friday’s hearing, Kirk’s widow Erika issued a legal filing urging the judge to come to his determination ‘promptly, based on the overwhelming evidence presented’ by prosecutors.

‘A prompt determination is imperative in the interest of justice,’ Erika’s attorney Jeffrey Nieman wrote in the filing.

‘The Court is approaching the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s death. Ten months have passed since the defendant was arrested, and the preliminary hearing has now concluded.’

The ‘overwhelming evidence’ that Kirk’s attorney believed had been laid out by prosecutors included DNA found on the rifle used to shoot Kirk.

Chief Deputy Utah County Attorney General Chad Grunander told the judge: ‘Your Honor’s heard four days of testimony now.

‘The evidence is overwhelming. It’s devastating.’

Graf’s decision to not find a conclusion on Friday also sparked the ire of conservative commentator Megyn Kelly, who issued a blistering tirade against the judge on her show soon after the hearing ended.

‘Unfortunately, we will not be getting a decision today on the obvious conclusion that there is probable cause to hold Tyler Robinson over to trial in the case of Charlie Kirk’s assassination,’ Kelly said.

‘I mean, honestly, despite the mountain of evidence against it, this is a joke that Judge Tony Graff is even indulging this.’

Kelly compared Graf to Judge Lance Ito, who famously oversaw the controversial murder trial of OJ Simpson in 1995.

‘I’m sorry, he’s Judge Ito,’ she said.

‘I’m over this guy completely. He has no confidence. He seems feckless up there. He seems like he’s terrified to make a decision. This is honestly absurd. Like, grow a pair, Judge.’

At Friday’s hearing, ATF forensic biologist Caitlin Oliver said that the DNA found on the rifle is ‘at least one trillion times more likely to have come from Tyler Robinson’ than anyone else.

The evidence put forward by prosecutors also included several alleged confessions from Robinson after the assassination on September 10, 2025.

On Thursday, prosecutors presented video footage of Robinson’s former roommate and transgender lover Lance Twiggs giving a police interview in April, where he alleged that Robinson confessed to him in the aftermath of the shooting.

Twiggs claimed that Robinson went as far as to tell him he ‘wishes he hadn’t done it.’

Twiggs also said in his video testimony that Robinson left him a handwritten note on the day Kirk was assassinated, which read: ‘I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.’

The alleged confession note was presented alongside text messages that prosecutors say Robinson sent on the day Kirk was shot, in which he also allegedly admitted to the crime.

After Twiggs’ video statement to the police was played, prosecutors presented text messages allegedly sent between Robinson and Twiggs after Kirk was killed

In the texts shown in court, Twiggs told Robinson he did not believe the confession note, writing: ‘You’re joking right?… You weren’t the one who did it right?’

Robinson allegedly replied, ‘I am, I’m sorry.’

He then allegedly discussed trying to hide the evidence, writing that he ‘planned to grab my rifle’ from a ‘drop point’ near to the shooting scene.

‘If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence,’ he wrote, per the texts.

‘Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on. I haven’t seen anything in the news about them finding it. Will update you by midnight.’

Twiggs then asked Robinson how long he had been planning the shooting, to which he replied: ‘A bit over a week, I believe.’

Prosecutors also alleged that Robinson confessed to his parents, and then issued another confession in a chat room on the gaming platform Discord.

He allegedly wrote: ‘Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this. I’m surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments. Thanks for all the good times and laughs.’

Authorities said Twiggs quickly cooperated with investigators and offered his DNA for testing, and this week prosecutors said both Twiggs’ and Robinson’s DNA were found on a towel wrapped around the murder weapon.

From Wedding Wardrobe Mishap to Bridal Bliss: Laura Kruk Stuns in Her Own Gown After Taylor Swift Dress Drama

0

Last Friday, NFL star JuJu Smith-Schuster celebrated a new chapter in his life, exchanging vows in an elegant Californian affair. This came just a week after he attended the nuptial festivities of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, further intertwining his personal life with his sporting network.

Smith-Schuster, known for his time on the field with the Kansas City Chiefs alongside teammates Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, pledged eternal love to fitness instructor Laura Kruk. Their union was marked by a breathtaking ceremony perched atop a bluff, offering picturesque views for their special day.

The couple’s vows were exchanged in the immaculate gardens of the Ritz-Carlton located in the charming harborside town of Dana Point, Orange County. The ceremony was graced by numerous NFL luminaries, including newlywed tight end Travis Kelce and his bride, Taylor Swift.

In an amusing twist of fate, Kruk experienced a wardrobe mishap at the Kelce-Swift wedding the previous week. Nevertheless, she embraced her bridal elegance, carrying an all-white bouquet adorned with orchids, calla lilies, and delicate cascading amaranthus.

For her wedding ensemble, Kruk showcased her platinum blonde hair in a sophisticated partial updo, allowing gentle waves to cascade gracefully over her shoulder. The look perfectly complemented the serene yet sophisticated atmosphere of their intimate ceremony.

For the ceremony, the elegant hairstyle was covered by a dramatic cathedral-length veil featuring ornate floral lace applique edge.

The 33-year-old was accompanied down the aisle by an entourage of six bridesmaids, who wore matching dresses in a blush tone.

Smith-Schuster, meanwhile, was dapper in a sharp white suit which he teamed with sunglasses.

The wideout’s pristine white suit jacket featured a romantic promise to his new wife, with the touching message, ‘Till Death Do Us Part,’ embroidered onto the back of his collar in black thread.

After saying ‘I do,’ the couple turned to their guests, holding their clasped hands up in the air in celebration.

The newlyweds were later seen mingling with other guests immediately after the ceremony, including Kelce and Swift.

Guests appeared to be letting their hair down with several including Swift seen enjoying what appeared to be glasses of champagne.

Kelce also appeared to be enjoying the reception, which took place on a terrace at the Ritz-Carlton, and was seen drinking a beer.

Other guests included Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes who jetted in on Thursday with his wife Brittany.

Two-time Chiefs Super Bowl champion George Karlaftis and wife Kaia, who married in May, were also spotted in the crowd

The property is one of the most glamorous in Dana Point, a small coastal city famous for its pretty harbor and for being a jumping off point for whale and dolphin watching tours, as well as ferries to Catalina Island.

The hotel sits on a 150ft bluff and boasts stunning views of the Pacific, as well as the Salt Creek Beach below.

Smith-Schuster and Kruk flashed their new wedding bands to their guests as they posed for photos.

While Swift and Brittany were captured in deep conversation as they sat next to one another for the dinner, the new Mr and Mrs enjoyed quality time together.

They sat holding hands at their own secluded table, which was adorned with a beautiful arrangement of colorful flowers. Smith-Schuster and Kruk even appeared to do a shot together at one point during the celebrations.

Smith-Schuster, who now plays for the New York Giants, and his bride, were guests at Swift and Kelce’s wedding on July 3.

Kruk ended up suffering an embarrassing wardrobe clash during the celebrations. She wore a $795 Sau Lee silky brown dress complete with a floral-detailed corset for the occasion.

However, unfortunately for her, Swift’s childhood best friend Abigail Anderson Berard attended the glitzy soiree in the same strapless gown.

But there was no risk of Kruk enduring a fashion faux pas on her own special day as she glowed in her floral lace gown.

There were no wardrobe clashes among her guests, either. In fact, Swift and Brittany, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick, appeared to be color coordinating.

Swift wore a strapless pink brocade Markarian gown retailing for $4,115, and paired it with her signature red lip, while Kelce cut a sharp figure in a grey suit.

Meanwhile, Brittany wowed in a $1,690 high-neck coral gown from Silvia Tcherassi that hugged the mother-of-three’s toned figure.

She accessorized with hot pink heels and a matching clutch, as well as a white fan, which she used to shelter her face from the searing California sun during the ceremony.

Kelce and Mahomes are no longer teammates with Smith-Schuster, with the wide receiver recently leaving the Chiefs to sign for the New York Giants.

However, they appear to have remained close friends with Kelce even celebrating Smith-Schuster’s Giants signing on social media.

Smith-Schuster won a Super Bowl alongside Kelce, back at the end of the 2023 season when the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles, who had Jason Kelce on their team.

After that victory, Smith-Schuster briefly joined the New England Patriots and Kelce was unhappy with the Chiefs letting him leave.

Smith-Schuster only spent a season in New England before returning to the Chiefs.

Newlyweds Swift and Kelce now have an 18-day gap to take a honeymoon before the tight-end must report for training in Kansas City, where the pair spend most of their time.

Last weekend’s New York extravaganza is estimated to have cost $50m and saw the storied music venue transformed into a botanical oasis, complete with groves of trees and pots overflowing with blooms.

The Love Story crooner exchanged vows in a spectacular Dior dress while 1,000 guests showed up to see her tie the knot in a ceremony officiated by Adam Sandler.

Along with the Swift and Kelce families, big names on the guestlist included Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Karlie Kloss and Ed Sheeran.

Not everyone was invited though: among the notable names left off the list was former bestie Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds.

Swift is thought to have fallen out spectacularly with the actress, after being dragged into her drawn out court fight with Justin Baldoni, which led to pages of private texts between the two being revealed in court documents.

Bunnie Xo Removes Podcast Episode Detailing Split from Jelly Roll: Here’s Why

Bunnie Xo is reconsidering her decision to share the intimate details of her marriage breakup publicly.

In the episode of her podcast “Dumb Blonde” that aired on Friday, July 10, Bunnie, 46, detailed the reasons behind her decision to remove a previous episode. During that episode, she had spoken openly about the end of her 10-year marriage with Jelly Roll, 41.

“I decided to remove it because I realized I didn’t want one of the most challenging times of my life to be a lasting headline,” she revealed during the recent podcast discussion.

She added, “I don’t want to dwell in that space. However, I do believe people deserve the opportunity to heal, transform, and move on.”

Bunnie Xo Slams 'Completely False' Jelly Roll Split Rumors, Jokes About Leaving '10-Year' Prison Bid

Addressing the rumors surrounding her divorce from Jelly Roll, Bunnie Xo aimed to clarify the situation. “There’s a narrative online suggesting that I was embarrassing Jelly, which supposedly led to the divorce. People have said, ‘She’s detrimental to his public image,’” Bunnie, 46, explained in the Friday, June 26, episode of “Dumb Blonde.” […]

Bunnie admitted she was worried about the split being the main thing she is known for.

“But also, if I’m being real, I don’t want the divorce to become my entire personality. I don’t want to be the poster child for divorce,” she said.

While Bunnie has no intentions of keeping the podcast online in perpetuity, she has no regrets about sharing it in the first place.

“That episode served a purpose for me at that time, and it was real, it was honest, and it came from exactly where I was emotionally in that moment. But I’m not in that same place anymore,” she admitted.

Bunnie added that she thought people weren’t seeing the full picture of how she navigated her relationship breakdown “behind the scenes,” leading them to make inaccurate assumptions.

“I think that that’s where we need to pause and just kind of focus on the fact that people are like, ‘Oh, well, she moved on so fast.’ And it’s like, hold up. I’ve been mourning the loss of my marriage for at least a year. I had visions of the news breaking, of it happening,” Bunnie said.

She explained that there were moments that she “was on the floor screaming, crying.”  Bunnie added that there were times that she “couldn’t even stand up because I was so f**ing devastated.”

While Bunnie had to deal with her personal life making headlines and strangers weighing in on her situation, the episode was lucrative. It became one of her most viewed episodes, earning her $100,000 in the process.

“But I don’t care about the money. If I cared about the money, I would’ve left it up and let it get another f***ing 100 grand,” she insisted.

Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo Divorce Docs

Jelly Roll is sharing his side of the story after filing for divorce from wife Bunnie Xo. News broke on Monday, June 15, that Jelly Roll (real name Jason Bradley DeFord) filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo (real name Alisa Andrea Carter) after nearly 10 years of marriage. The pair do not share any children. […]

In the podcast episode about the split, which dropped on June 18, Bunnie opened up about why they separated as well as shooting down speculation the marriage ended due to infidelity.

“On Mother’s Day, we had a little bit of an argument, which I don’t think the details are necessary,” she explained. “And, in that argument, I was so fed up and so tired that I just looked at him and said, ‘Well, then file the f***ing divorce papers.’”

After the podcast was released, Jelly Roll broke his silence on the break-up by publicly addressing the audience on stage at the Saratoga Springs, NY, leg of his tour.

“Me and my wife are best friends. We will always be best friends. We just got off the phone earlier today,” he said. “Nobody cheated on nobody. She just did a whole podcast about it. You can go watch it. Every word of it is the truth.”

Jelly Roll quietly filed for divorce from Bunnie in Tennessee on May 18, Us Weekly confirmed on June 15.

Shohei Ohtani Hits Home Run Despite Knee Injury in Dodgers’ Defeat

0

The night’s opening swing was a spectacle that eclipsed the eventual outcome.

Despite facing issues with his knee, Shohei Ohtani appeared to be in fine form.

Ohtani was expected to pitch in the Dodgers’ 9-3 defeat at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Unfortunately, he was scratched from his pitching duties due to “continued irritation in his left knee,” as stated by the team.

Yet, this setback didn’t prevent the multi-talented star from playing as the team’s designated hitter. Just three pitches into his initial at-bat, Ohtani launched a leadoff home run against All-Star left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, offering both power and peace of mind with his performance.

The concerns about Ohtani’s knee should not be underestimated, however, as they are indeed significant.

After plaguing him for a month, he is set to have it drained on Sunday and will likely get a pain-relieving injection after that.

The treatment plan will keep him from attending the All-Star Game. It also forced the Dodgers into a bullpen game on Friday that came with disappointing results.

Still, manager Dave Roberts insisted Ohtani’s status was no big concern either.

If this were October, Roberts said, Ohtani would’ve been pitching.

And even for the middle of July, he felt good enough to keep taking at-bats.

The leadoff homer only underscored such optimism, with Ohtani somehow getting to a fastball off the inside corner and launching it to the opposite field for a 381-foot drive to left.

It was Ohtani’s 21st home run of the season, his third in the last four games, and his 10th since his knee first began giving him problems back on June 10.

Even in a losing effort, it was a sigh of supreme relief.

What it means

The Dodgers did miss Ohtani’s arm on Friday, dropping the opening game of this first-half-finale series thanks to choppy performances from most of their relief staff.

It started with opener Kyle Hurt, who gave up two runs in the first on three singles and a walk. The Dbacks mounted three more two-run rallies in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, as well, in which Will Klein, Brock Stewart and Edgardo Henriquez combined to give up only two hits but walk four batters.

The Dodgers’ defense certainly didn’t help (more on that later), but the pitching performances were plenty bad on their own.

The low points: When Stewart gave up a two-run homer to No. 9 hitter Tim Tawa in the fourth, breaking a 2-2 tie; and when Edgardo Henriquez entered in the fifth with a runner on second, and immediately brought him home by balking and throwing a wild pitch.

Who’s hot

Rodriguez eventually settled down after his shaky start for Arizona, completing a six-inning, two-run, five-strikeout start.

But not before Andy Pages followed Ohtani in the first inning with a home run of his own.

The blast was one of three hits Pages recorded on Friday, in addition to singles in the third and sixth innings. That marked the All-Star outfielder’s ninth three-hit game this season, but only the second time it had happened since May 6.

The 3-for-4 performance pushed his batting average back up to .269 and his OPS to .807.

Who’s not

For most of the year, the Dodgers’ defense has been a strength.

This week, it looks like they’re already thinking ahead to next week’s All-Star break.

On Friday, the team committed three errors: A bad throw from right fielder Kyle Tucker in the first inning, sending the ball skipping into the dugout to score a run; another bad throw in the fifth from catcher Dalton Rushing, who fired too low to second base to put a Diamondbacks’ rally in motion; and yet another misfire from third baseman Tommy Edman in the sixth while trying to field a bunt.

In all, they accounted for three unearned runs of the eight Dodgers pitchers allowed.

More concerning is that, over the last three games, the club has now committed six errors overall –– including a couple that contributed to another loss on Tuesday.

Even with those recent struggles, the Dodgers still lead the majors in fielding percentage and fewest errors recorded on the season.

But, it has been a source of frustration of late for Roberts, who looked dismayed in the dugout Friday as his squad kicked the ball around the yard.

Up next

The Dodgers will go from a bullpen game to their staff ace on Saturday, sending Yoshinobu Yamamoto (9-5, 2.49 ERA) to the mound for the final time before the All-Star break against Arizona right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (2-1, 4.84 ERA).

Community Back-to-School Bash Delivers 300 Free Backpacks to Students

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Thanks to a community initiative held on Friday, hundreds of local students are stepping into the new school year better equipped with brand-new supplies.

Families convened on Abercorn Street for a no-cost back-to-school celebration, where backpacks packed with school essentials were distributed to the first 300 children who attended.

In addition to stocking up on school gear, children enjoyed the chance to unwind before the academic year began, with activities such as a bounce house, inflatable obstacle courses, face painting, games, music, and a lively foam party.

The event was organized by KidsStreet Urgent Care as a means to support local families in getting ready for the coming school term.

“We’re providing a plethora of school supplies and backpacks to students whose parents might not have the opportunity to shop for these extras before school starts,” explained Kara Lightner from KidsStreet Urgent Care. “Offering this opportunity while creating a fun atmosphere allows everyone to enjoy the back-to-school excitement,” she added.

Plea Agreement Reached in Fatal Robbery Case Involving Woman

A woman from Texas is set to serve a lengthy prison sentence for participating in a botched home invasion that resulted in the tragic death of a young man. However, her time in prison won’t be as extensive as initially anticipated.

Julie Marie Lopez, aged 20, admitted guilt to a single charge of aggravated robbery tied to the death of 20-year-old Isaiah Guevara, according to an announcement by the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office made on Thursday.

The event at the heart of this case took place late in October 2024, within the premises of the Villas of Oak Creste apartments located on Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio. It was during this time that the unfortunate chain of events unfolded.

The situation escalated with a 911 call made around 4 a.m. on October 26, 2024, as reported by an affidavit sourced from the San Antonio-based ABC affiliate KSAT. The caller reported hearing gunshots and seeing bullet holes perforating the apartment walls. Ultimately, law enforcement officers concluded that the caller was unharmed, despite the fact that gunfire had erupted from a neighboring unit.

Inside that other unit, police found the victim dead from multiple gunshot wounds with shell casings around his body. In his bedroom, there was also a cup from a QuikTrip gas station filled with red liquid on the dresser — still cold and dripping with condensation.

For months, the investigation continued.

In January 2025, Lopez was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated robbery over Guevara’s death.

A witness at the scene said they saw two men running out of the victim’s unit — and heard a woman yelling at the men from the parking lot, according to the affidavit. Another witness said they saw two men running downstairs. A doorbell camera caught three suspects fleeing.

Surveillance video from a QuikTrip near the apartment complex showed Lopez and Guevara inside together, police said. In the footage, Lopez was seen drinking a red-colored beverage from a QuikTrip cup that matched description of the cup found in the victim’s bedroom.

Investigators also discovered Instagram messages between Lopez and Guevara sent on the night of the killing — including plans to meet. In one such message, the woman sent the man her address so he could send a rideshare driver for her, but Lopez later said she found a ride.

At 3:42 a.m., Lopez sent a voice message to a person who became a witness in the investigation, indicating that a group of people was “hiding,” according to the affidavit.

Later, an anonymous tipster told police they heard the defendant talking with a relative about the shooting after a Crime Stoppers bulletin was posted featuring still images of the surveillance footage from the QuikTrip. During this conversation, Lopez admitted to being at Guevara’s apartment and that the whole ordeal was a setup, according to law enforcement.

During her first interview with police, Lopez admitted to being at the slain man’s apartment that night. Still, she refused to identify the people she had been with and referenced in the voice message.

When investigators said she was facing a murder charge if she did not reveal the names of the others, who would remain free while she was punished, Lopez said: “It’s my choice,” and “It’s my mistake.”

Days later, yet another witness came forward to say that Lopez had been part of the setup for Guevara to be robbed and that one of the woman’s friends killed Guevara as the robbery went awry, police said.

In March 2026, a 24-year-old man was charged with Guevara’s murder as well. In June, the charges were dropped for lack of evidence.

“Them changing it from, truly, a murder charge to a robbery charge is upsetting,” the victim’s aunt told KSAT. “And that’s why we keep fighting. We’re going to keep coming for the hearings because it’s just not fair.”

Under the terms of the plea deal the state struck with Lopez, she was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The sentence was quickly meted out by 227th Criminal District Court Judge Christine Del Prado, who also credited the defendant with 499 days spent in pretrial detention.

Tampa Diners React to Listeria Outbreak Linked to Popular China Buffet’s Menu

In Tampa, Florida, health authorities have issued a warning about a Listeria outbreak linked to a local Chinese buffet. Though Listeria symptoms often resemble those of food poisoning, there’s a heightened risk for severe illness in pregnant women, individuals over 65, and those with compromised immune systems.

The establishment at the heart of this outbreak, China Buffet located on East Fowler, is well-known and frequented by locals.

“Back when I lived nearby, I used to visit quite often, especially before they renovated,” shared frequent diner Joshua Arevalo.

Renee Chabebe, a patron, expressed her fondness for the buffet, saying, “The food is really good. I love it. I mainly go because of the crab legs.”

Friday, the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County announced a Listeria outbreak originated at the restaurant.

“To be honest with you, it’s a surprising — obviously it makes me rethink going here to eat right now,” Arevalo said.

The DOH said of the five people included in the outbreak, four ate at the restaurant between March and June 2026.

Dr. Adelor Zamora is an infectious disease specialist and the medical director of the Infection Prevention Program at HCA Brandon. He said he’s eaten at China Buffet before.

“But thank God, basically I’m not sick,” Zamora said.

He said Listeria cases are common in the summer, though they go under reported.

“The most common symptom is always gastroenteritis. It causes diarrhea, fevers, abdominal cramping,” Zamora said.

Those symptoms are similar to the other diarrhea-causing illness, Cyclosporiasis. There are 50 confirmed cases across the state and two of them are in Hillsborough County, according to FDOH.

“Cyclospora is a parasite. The Listeria is a bacteria. So that’s the main difference. They’re all foodborne illness, meaning they contaminate the food. And once you ingest it, you get infected,” Zamora said.

China Buffet’s manager told 8 On Your Side that in June they got the restaurant cleaned up and reopened but didn’t want to give any further comment.

Chabebe said she was there in June, and said she plans to keep coming back.

“I ask what happened and then they told me they had some health, you know, inspection and they had to throw all the food,” she said.

The DOH said they’ve conducted multiple onsite assessments and gave the restaurant required remediation measures.

“I would probably wind up actually trusting, going to eat here, knowing that someone has already been on top of things and has actually looked at it,” Arevalo said.

Doctors recommend washing your hands and food thoroughly and said to seek medical attention as soon as possible if you feel sick.

Trump Warns of 1,000-Missile Retaliation on Iran if Assassinated

Former President Donald Trump has declared that the United States has 1,000 missiles “locked and loaded,” aimed directly at Iran, as a preemptive measure should the Islamic republic proceed with threats to assassinate him.

Trump laid out a detailed strategy for potential military retaliation, stating unequivocally that Iran would face complete decimation if it were to follow through on its long-standing threats. This stark warning was delivered to the public on Friday night.

The context for Trump’s bold statement arose from increased calls for his assassination, notably during the funeral proceedings for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response to these renewed threats, Trump’s warning stood out for its severe implications.

Offering one of his most direct threats to date against Tehran, Trump disclosed that he had already given precise instructions to military officials on the nation’s course of action if Iran were to make any attempts on his life.

Writing in a fervent post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands more to immediately follow if the Iranian Government acts on its threat to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!”

He continued: ‘Orders have already been given, and the US Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran – PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!’

Trump’s remarks came just hours after mourners attending Khamenei’s funeral in Tehran again chanted slogans calling for the  president’s death.

The comments also follow days of escalating military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, including US strikes on Iranian targets and retaliatory Iranian attacks across the Middle East.

Trump said he had left instructions to ‘literally bomb’ Iran ‘at levels that they’ve never seen before’ if anything happened to him

The president’s latest declaration dramatically expanded on comments he made earlier this week, when he revealed he had already left standing instructions for overwhelming military retaliation if he were assassinated.

‘I’ve been on their list for a long time. That’s what we’re dealing with,’ Trump told the New York Post.

‘The only thing is, I’ve left instructions, if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before.’

Asked about recent intelligence reports suggesting Israel had uncovered a fresh Iranian assassination plot targeting him, Trump dismissed the idea that the threat was new.

‘No, no. Israel came up with nothing. No, no,’ he said. ‘I’ve been number one for a long time, and it’s the way life is, you know.’

Iran’s hostility toward Trump dates back to January 2020, when he authorized the US drone strike that killed Iranian Revolutionary Guard General Qasem Soleimani near Baghdad International Airport.

Since then, senior Iranian officials have repeatedly vowed revenge, while posters and banners calling for Trump’s death have frequently appeared across Tehran.

More recently, large ‘Kill Trump’ signs written in both English and Farsi have been erected in the Iranian capital, underscoring the regime’s continued anger over Soleimani’s killing.

The threat environment surrounding Trump has intensified over the past year following multiple disrupted assassination plots, including the July 2024 campaign rally shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a sniper’s bullet grazed his ear.

Trump has acknowledged the constant security risks surrounding his presidency.

During his final press conference in Ankara, Turkey, he admitted he may have viewed another White House run differently had he known the extent of the threats against his life.

Trump officials said that security concerns were also the reason the president chose to swap from his new Qatari-gifted Air Force One back to his older Boeing 747-200 jet for part of his journey home from the NATO summit.

The switch was designed as an element of ‘misdirection’ according to White House communications director Steven Cheung.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has simultaneously intensified military pressure on Tehran following a series of attacks on commercial vessels transiting the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

Officials have indicated that the scale and duration of the current campaign will depend entirely on Iran’s actions in the coming days, with the White House signaling it is prepared to sustain military operations if attacks continue.

Some administration advisers have privately referred to the military campaign by the informal nickname ‘Operation B**** Slap’ in internal discussions.

However White House and Pentagon officials have stressed the phrase is unofficial and not the formal name of any military operation.

Trump has repeatedly insisted the United States will not tolerate attacks on international shipping or threats against American interests.

Those close to the president say the escalating confrontation with Iran has become deeply personal given the regime’s long-standing calls for his assassination.

The Daily Mail has contacted the White House for comment.
