During a heartfelt visit to a children’s hospital in Birmingham, England, Prince Harry was warmly received by a group of enthusiastic nurses.

Prince Harry is currently on a UK tour
The Duke of Sussex, who resides in California with his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and their two children, is on a solo tour in the United Kingdom. On Thursday, 9th July 2026, he made a special stop at Birmingham Children’s Hospital to commemorate the 20th anniversary of a specialized nursing program offered by the charity WellChild.
Sky News reports Harry was “mobbed by nurses” as he entered the building with staff “encircling” him in the hospital corridors and the royal showed his appreciation by talking to the group, hugging them and posing for pictures.
During his visit, Harry met with some ill children on the wards including Alec Hill, 12, with Harry telling the youngster he shares a hobby with his seven-year-old son Prince Archie.
Exciting Start to Florida’s Everglades Python Challenge

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)—Excitement is in the air as the 2026 Florida Python Challenge kicks off this Friday, offering participants the chance to score big wins.
Aspiring contestants can now register to compete for a slice of the $25,000 prize pool, with registration remaining open until the challenge concludes.
Organized by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, this year’s python hunt will start on July 10 at the stroke of midnight and continue until July 19 at 5 p.m., concentrating efforts on removing invasive Burmese pythons from the Everglades.
The 2026 Florida Python Challenge, a collaboration between FWC and the Southwest Florida Water Management District, features a compelling $10,000 grand prize for the contestant who successfully removes the most pythons.
Participants have the chance to earn additional cash awards for achievements such as removing the most pythons and capturing the longest specimens across three competition categories, according to FWC.

Last year, participants of the Python Challenge removed a competition record of 294 invasive Burmese pythons from the Everglades, which resulted in a total of 1,406 of the nonnative constrictors being removed during all Florida Python Challenge competitions to date, FWC said.
There were 934 participants from 30 different states and Canada who registered for the 10-day competition in 2025.
According to the FWC, the Burmese python is not native to Florida and is found in and around the Everglades ecosystem, where they prey on birds, mammals, and other reptiles.
A female Burmese python can lay 50 to more than 100 eggs at a time.
More than 27,000 Burmese pythons have been reported to the FWC as removed from Florida’s environment since 2000.
In 2025, the ultimate grand prize went to Taylor Stanberry, who removed 60 Burmese pythons.
National Guard Shooting Suspect’s Health Critical After Hunger Strike: Legal Filing Reveals
The Afghan national implicated in the fatal shooting of a National Guard member and a subsequent attack near the White House last year has been moved from his prison cell to a medical facility. This transfer followed his decision to abstain from food and water, according to court documentation.
Federal prosecutors informed the court that Rahmanullah Lakanwal was admitted to the hospital close to midnight on Wednesday to “preserve his life.” This action was preceded by warnings from the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) in June, indicating that Lakanwal’s prolonged refusal to intake sufficient nutrition posed serious health risks.
Court documents reveal that USMS officials expressed concern over Lakanwal’s self-imposed risk of severe health issues, potentially even death, due to his refusal to eat or drink.
During an emergency court session late Thursday morning, D.C. District Judge Amit Mehta described Lakanwal’s health situation as “dire” and “self-inflicted,” per a transcript obtained by The New York Times.

Lakanwal, 30, is accused of killing West Virginia National Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom and severely wounding Guardsman Andrew Wolfe in last November’s attack. He faces 17 charges, the most serious of which — the first-degree murder charge — makes him eligible for the death penalty.
In the most recent court filing, prosecutors told Mehta that on June 16, 2026 — the day Lakanwal pleaded not guilty to all the charges — they learned about a protective order that “prohibited the government from receiving medical records concerning Lakanwal’s treatment.”
The judge ruled that prosecutors had a right to have access to Lakanwal’s medical records and his treatment providers for “the duration of his current hospitalization.”

Last month, Lakanwal made his first appearance in court, months after the Washington, D.C., shooting. He was wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and was in a wheelchair.
On November 26, Lakanwal allegedly drove his Toyota Prius from his home in Bellingham, Washington, to the District of Columbia while in possession of a stolen firearm, according to court records.
Prosecutors said he opened fire on West Virginia National Guard members, striking Beckstrom and Wolfe in the head. Two nearby National Guard members then subdued Lakanwal at the scene, officials said.

Investigators reportedly recovered a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver that had been reported stolen in Seattle in 2023.
Officials said Beckstrom died from her injuries on Thanksgiving, while Wolfe continues to recover from his injuries.
Beckstrom was posthumously awarded the West Virginia Distinguished Service Medal, while Wolfe was recently given the “Freedom 250: Hometown Hero Award.” Both of them were awarded the Purple Heart by President Donald Trump in February.
Former Romanian Soccer Legend Gabriel Muresan Passes Away at 44
Tragedy struck earlier this week when former Champions League player Gabriel Muresan, a Romanian national, passed away in a drowning accident at a lake, according to reports from local media outlets.
The 44-year-old was pronounced dead after he was pulled from the water by firefighters and transported to a nearby hospital, where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Firefighters reportedly pulled him from a lake midweek and he was rushed to a local hospital, but medics couldn’t revive him.

Initial investigations suggest that the incident may have been triggered by thermal shock upon entering the lake, contributing to the unfortunate series of events.
Aside from his athletic achievements, Muresan was also serving as the mayor of Apold, a town in Transylvania, since his election in 2020. The local town hall has issued a statement following the sad news of his passing.
“Today we are all experiencing great pain. We express our deep sadness at the news of the passing away of Gabi Muresan, mayor and devoted servant of our community,” his town hall announced.
“In these moments of difficult trial, we send sincere condolences to the grieving family and to all those who knew and cherished him.”
“Our community will keep his memory alive, and will be grateful for everything he did for the people and for the Apold commune.”

The Romanian soccer federation also paid tribute to Muresan.
“The Romanian Football Federation sends its most sincere condolences to the family, friends, and all those who knew Gabriel Muresan,” the statement said. “May God rest him!”
The midfielder had an illustrious career and was best remembered for his stint with CFR Cluj, where he made over 130 appearances and won three Liga I titles, along with three Romanian Cups.
He also captained Cluj during historic UEFA Champions League campaigns and competed in group-stage matches against powerhouses like Manchester United, Chelsea and AS Roma.

Singer Liz, 44, announced last month that she is pregnant with her first child, after a two-decade struggle to conceive
Now Kerry has said there is no ‘bad blood’ from her side and wished her ex bandmate well in her pregnancy and in motherhood
‘I haven’t spoke to her in years but there’s no bad blood from me whatsoever. I wish her nothing but love, joy and happiness. She’ll be a phenomenal mother,’ she added.
Kerry, who was just 18 when she joined Atomic Kitten, quit the band in 2001 after falling pregnant with her first child with her then-husband Brian McFadden – and was replaced by Jenny Frost.
In 2020, Atomic Kitten reunited for the first time in 15 years as they recorded a special version of their hit single Whole Again for the Euros, which original member Kerry was notably absent.
Kerry addressed the group’s return at the time, telling one of her Instagram fans she ‘never left’ the band and thought they were ‘on a break’.
The media personality speculated the reason why she kept being left out of their reunions saying she believed that they didn’t like her.
She told OK! at the time: ‘I was never asked to be part of it – I don’t know why! I get the feeling they don’t like me.’
The former popstar added that Natasha, Liz, and Jenny decided to ‘crack on without her’ but added: ‘I wish them all the best.’
In 2023, Kerry made a heartbreaking plea to ex bandmates Liz and Natasha, urging if they could put their ongoing feud to bed so they can be friends again.
She said: ‘I think she’s going to make a wonderful mum. I’m so excited and happy for her – she’s going to be amazing. I haven’t spoke to her in years but there’s no bad blood from me whatsoever. She’ll be a phenomenal mother’

Kerry wrote in her new! magazine column ‘life is too short’ and she is ‘really sad’ that she doesn’t speak to her band anymore.
She wrote: ‘When something like this happens it brings home how I feel about my relationship with the Atomic Kitten girls.
‘It’s really sad that we don’t talk. I’ve reached out to them so many times. Life is too short.’
Kerry, who was just 18 when she joined the group, revealed how the band used to fight back in the day before she was replaced by Jenny.
She continued: ‘I remember some of the fights we had in Atomic Kitten back in the day. Once, Liz punched me from behind after we had a little row. I was furious and got my own back.
‘I made her get changed in the toilets at SMTV Live, then I stamped on her feet while we were up on stage singing Whole Again.’
It comes as Liz revealed she is pregnant with her first child, after a two-decade struggle to conceive.
The singer shared the happy news in an Instagram post telling her followers she has finally become pregnant after years of ‘painful’ IVF.
Liz married her husband Peter Cho in June 2023, but didn’t reveal his identity to her followers until they celebrated their first wedding anniversary last year.
In the sweet clip, Liz could be seen sitting on a park bench before turning around to reveal her bump.
During the video, she said: ‘I’ve been keeping a secret from you, and I’ve mostly kept myself off social media because sometimes it was hard to smile.
Liz announced her pregnancy last month with her husband Peter Cho, who she married in June 2023
‘But after years of sometimes quite painful IVF and dark times, I’m pregnant! We feel like we’ve been given the world.’
Liz captioned the post: ‘I started to record a video of me just telling you but I got too emotional so I thought I’d just hide behind this little announcement instead.
‘I just can’t believe we’re here. So many have been through exactly what I went through and worse. ❤️
‘I want to share what I can and add my voice and ears to those who already help others understand or deal with all that comes with IVF and loss after so much hope.
‘I’ve been a part of some beautifully supportive communities. I’m so grateful.’
Her post was soon flooded with congratulations from her celebrity pals, including her former Atomic Kitten bandmate Natasha Hamilton.
She wrote: ‘Literally couldn’t be any happier for you both! After all you’ve been through, this little miracle is everything.’
Authorities Charge Parents Following Discovery of Children and Numerous Cats in “Dangerous” Home Environment
Two parents from Philadelphia are under scrutiny after being accused of child endangerment and conspiracy, with officials uncovering extremely unsafe and appalling conditions in their home.
Megan Bach, aged 44, and her husband, Thomas Bach, 43, are each facing two charges of endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person. They are also charged with possession of an instrument of crime, possession of an offensive weapon, and criminal conspiracy, as stated in a report issued by the Philadelphia Police Department.
The arrests were made on July 7 when FBI agents were engaged in legally sanctioned operations at a house located in the Tacony area of the city, authorities confirmed.
According to the police report, agents were initially in contact with Megan inside the property. Upon entering, they found the living environment to be so hazardous due to its shocking state that it was deemed unfit and unsafe.
Police reported that Megan was detained at the scene, and Thomas was arrested shortly after his return to the residence.
Meanwhile, a 5-year-old child and an 8-month-old infant were “removed from the residence and transported to a local hospital for evaluation,” per the news release.
Megan and Thomas are the children’s parents, Philadelphia’s ABC 6 and NBC 10 reported. According to a criminal complaint obtained by the latter outlet, the children did not have a bed, bathtub or shower. Trash, urine and fecal matter were allegedly found inside the home, as well as brass knuckles and two firearms.
The Pennsylvania SPCA’s Animal Law Enforcement Team also responded to the scene that day and removed 38 cats and one dog from the home, a spokesperson confirmed to Oxygen. They’ve since returned to the property, where they rescued 10 more cats, bringing the number of felines removed to four dozen.
All animals were transported to PSCPA headquarters for forensic examinations and medical care, the organization said.
The investigation into the situation remains ongoing, the Philadelphia Police Department noted in their news release.
Megan and Thomas each had a preliminary arraignment on July 8 and are scheduled for their preliminary hearing on July 20, court records reviewed by Oxygen show.
South Carolina Helicopter Pilots Cleared to Fly Again After July 4th Beach Incident, States Pentagon

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Eight helicopter pilots from the South Carolina National Guard have been reinstated to their flying positions after being temporarily grounded. Their suspension arose from a low-altitude display during a July 4 event held to honor servicemembers.
“Effective immediately, the suspension of all involved South Carolina pilots has been lifted,” announced Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell on social media Friday morning. “Carry on Patriots.”
The suspension followed the “Salute from the Shore,” a popular Independence Day celebration in South Carolina that has been held annually since 2010. The event features a procession of both historical and contemporary military aircraft flying along the 187-mile coastline, aiming to stir patriotic feelings among the thousands of beachgoers present.
This year’s lineup included F-16 jets from the South Carolina Air National Guard’s 169th Fighter Wing, based at McEntire Joint Base, along with a C-17 aircraft from the 437th Airlift Wing stationed at Joint Base Charleston. Notably, Apache helicopters joined the aerial festivities for the very first time, alongside civilian-owned vintage planes like the T-34s and T-6s.
Many spectators routinely share videos of the event on social media, but this year, footage depicting Apaches flying conspicuously low over densely populated beaches raised safety concerns. This prompted the South Carolina National Guard to initiate a review and temporarily suspend the eight pilots. They later clarified that the suspension was a standard safety precaution and not a punitive measure.
Late Thursday night, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth noted on social media that the Pentagon was getting involved, writing, “We’ll fix this. Carry on, Patriots.”
South Carolina Republicans rebuked the suspension, too. Rep. Russell Fry, who represents the Myrtle Beach area, said Thursday that the pilots “should be celebrated, not sanctioned.”
Less than two hours before Parnell’s post noting the suspension had been lifted, Republican Gov. Henry McMaster — who serves as commander-in-chief of the state’s National Guard — said Friday he trusted the pilots’ acumen, writing in a social media post that Guardsmen fly in wartime.
“Surely, they know how to safely navigate the coast of South Carolina — and her scores of cheering residents and tourists on our 250th anniversary,” McMaster wrote.
Officials with McMaster’s office and South Carolina National Guard did not immediately return messages seeking comment on Friday, including whether McMaster — a longtime ally of President Donald Trump — had directly intervened. The Pentagon declined to comment beyond Parnell’s statement.

Top 5 Must-See TV Shows for Fans of Citadel
Amazon Prime Video’s “Citadel” has captivated spy fiction fans worldwide since its 2023 debut. With an array of unexpected plot twists and intense action sequences that even left Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the show’s star, injured, it has truly raised the bar for espionage storytelling. Chopra portrays Nadia Sinh, a top-tier secret agent navigating a complex world of covert operations. Alongside her is Mason Kane, played by Richard Madden, not just her partner in espionage but also her spouse. Together, the duo takes on shadowy enemies while managing their blazing chemistry. However, as the narrative unfolds, the truth about their identities might surprise even them.
Despite a rocky start, initially pegged as one of the most costly failures in television history due to lackluster Season 2 ratings, “Citadel” has experienced a surge in popularity. This newfound attention has breathed life into the series, giving rise to its own interconnected universe, including spin-offs like “Citadel: Diana” and “Citadel: Honey Bunny.” Unfortunately, the fate of these shows currently hangs in the balance, with no confirmation of new material forthcoming. In the meantime, Looper provides a list of similar genre-bending shows for fans eager to explore worlds akin to “Citadel.”
The list features five other compelling spy thrillers, curated not just for their espionage intrigue, but also for elements like featuring central characters in romantic entanglements, being part of a broader narrative universe, or starring familiar faces from “Citadel.” These selections ensure a thrilling experience, embodying the very essence that made “Citadel” a standout series.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Reboots of famous movies on television can often be hit or miss. Some fail to capture the original magic and end up feeling redundant, while others breathe new life into the concept with a fresh twist. The latter can certainly be said of Amazon Prime’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” series. It cleverly reimagines the film, keeping the foundational appeal intact while delivering a fresh narrative.
This series introduces two strangers, tasked by a secret organization to undertake espionage missions. These unsuspecting recruits adopt the personas John Smith (Donald Glover) and Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) and are thrust into a concocted marriage for their undercover assignments. They quickly must learn to function effectively as both a spy team and a convincingly married couple, transforming their contrived arrangement into something genuine through shared experiences.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan
For this one, we aren’t recommending “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” because it focuses on a duo, romantic or otherwise. Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) has most missions pretty well handled with little to no help, which is especially impressive given he used to work a desk job and was drawn into dangerous field work somewhat reluctantly. Soon, he’s off getting embroiled in major political warfare in the Czech Republic, Venezuela, and more.
So why, other than being a spy thriller, should “Jack Ryan” appeal to “Citadel” fans? Well, the show is loosely connected to an entire Jack Ryan timeline that spans novels, shows, and movies dating all the way back to the character’s 1984 print debut. Sometimes referred to as the Ryanverse, every project that falls under the umbrella doesn’t follow as strict of a lore bible as something like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there’s still a sense while watching “Jack Ryan” that it’s part of something that stretches beyond the bounds of that particular show. Just like “Citadel” has done with its spin-offs.
The Americans
Considering it topped our list of the best spy shows of all time, “The Americans” is an easy recommendation for fans of pretty much any other spy show ever made. But it doubly earns its place among our suggestions for “Citadal” watchers because it centers around not only a married spy couple, but a pair struggling with something of an identity crisis.
It’s the 1980s, and the world is in the grip of the Cold War. There doesn’t seem to be anything unusual about mild-mannered American couple Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell). They work at a travel agency while raising their two kids, and are doing all the things a typical American family does. Only, Philip is actually Mischa and Elizabeth is actually Nadezhda — the pair are KGB sleeper agents who have recently been activated and are carrying out various covert operations against the United States. And right under the nose of their FBI agent neighbor (Noah Emmerich), no less.
Liaison
Apple TV’s “Liaison” is a six-episode miniseries that hit the service in 2023. The spy fiction bona fides of its main stars speak for themselves, with Eva Green previously playing Bond girl Vesper Lynd in “Casino Royale” and Vincent Cassel taking roles in both “Jason Bourne” and “Secret Agents.” They bring that experience to “Liaison” in the roles of Alison Rowdy and Gabriel Delage, respectively, both involved in spy work to varying degrees. They are also former lovers.
Specifically, Gabriel is a mercenary and Alison works for Britain’s Ministry of Security. Despite seeming to be on two different sides of the law, as it were, the former romantic partners are forced to work together to stop a series of dangerous cyberattacks. Their dynamic is not only complicated by their differing ideals, but also their contemptuous past relationship, which has baggage attached to it that neither of them are fully prepared to deal with. This one flew under the radar a bit, but if you’re an Apple TV subscriber who liked “Citadel,” you should definitely check it out.
Quantico
If your favorite part of “Citadel” is Priyanka Chopra Jonas — and we couldn’t say we blamed you if that’s the case — then “Quantico” should be your next watch. We probably only need to tell you that it’s another spy thriller starring Chopra in order to get you interested, but it’s a great show even apart from that.
Alex Parrish (Chopra) is an FBI agent who finds herself falsely of accused of a terror bombing in a New York City train station. While working to prove her innocence, she finds many of her professional and personal relationships strained in the fallout of the accusation. However, the show doesn’t only focus on that, as it also flashes back to Parrish’s time in the titular academy. We learn more about not only her but some of her future colleagues — including the ones that are actually responsible for what later happened at that train station.
While garnering critical acclaim, the reason “Quantico” was canceled after just three seasons ultimately came down to it being a show ahead of its time. Its narrative was a little too complex for primetime TV viewers in 2015, and streaming wasn’t really a thing yet. That is where the show would have thrived.
