Hard-Right Politician Leaves UK Parliament to Battle Unusual Bin-Dressed Rival

0

Nigel Farage, Britain’s well-known anti-immigrant politician, now finds himself in a potentially humiliating situation as he faces perennial satirical contender Count Binface in an upcoming by-election following his surprising decision to leave parliament.

Count Binface, the brainchild of comedian Jonathan David Harvey, has become a familiar figure in UK elections with his distinctive bin-shaped helmet, adding a whimsical twist to the political landscape.

Farage’s unexpected resignation has sparked concerns of a political misstep, as other major parties have chosen not to compete for his seat in southeast England, leaving the field practically open for Count Binface.

Identifying as an “intergalactic space warrior,” Count Binface stands alone so far as the only declared candidate poised to run, adding a layer of irony to the proceedings.

Farage, known for leading the hard-right Reform UK party, made the announcement of his resignation as the representative for Clacton during a televised address on Tuesday, a position he has held since July 2024.

The shock announcement came as Farage is the subject of a parliamentary probe over the non-disclosure of a £5 million ($9.65 million) donation from Thailand-based cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne.

The donation was made shortly before Farage was elected an MP and was revealed earlier this year by The Guardian newspaper, which reported earlier this week that bankers raised concern with the National Crime Agency that it may have been laundered money.

The agency told the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency it would not confirm whether a complaint had been made.

‘People versus the establishment by-election’

Farage, whose party leads national opinion polls, also faces scrutiny over separate alleged gifts from George Cottrell, a 32-year-old crypto entrepreneur previously convicted of fraud.

Farage insists he has done nothing wrong and accused opponents in parliament of using sleaze investigations as a “political tool” against him.

The Reform UK leader did, however, discuss cryptocurrencies with Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey in September 2025.

In a letter to a Labour MP seen by AFP, Bailey said the bank was regularly subjected to lobbying and “no policy changes have taken place as a result of interventions by Mr Farage”.

In showmanship typical of the 62-year-old Brexit campaigner, Farage said he would seek re-election, pitching the vote as a “people versus the establishment by-election” fight.

But his plans appeared in disarray after the ruling Labour party, the main opposition Conservatives, centrist Liberal Democrats, and fringe parties, the left-wing Greens and far-right Restore Britain, announced they would not field candidates in the by-election.

Outgoing UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called Farage’s move a “desperate stunt” from someone “up to his neck in sleaze”, while Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch branded it a “fake by-election” designed to cause a distraction.

Rupert Lowe, who split from Farage last year and formed Restore as an even-further-right alternative that has eaten into Reform’s support, called the proposed poll an “unnecessary sham”.

‘Arguing with a bin’

Binface, who regularly runs in UK elections with his bin-shaped head and long cape, announced on Wednesday that he would put himself forward to take on Farage.

“I will be a unity candidate and pledge to build at least one affordable house,” he wrote in a post on X on Tuesday, adding: “Leave him [Farage] to me.”

The parody candidate won 95 votes, a 0.2 per cent share, when he ran against Britain’s likely next prime minister, Andy Burnham, in a by-election in Makerfield near Manchester last month.

His manifesto for that campaign included forcing cyclists who break traffic laws to ride unicycles instead, and capping the cost of a croissant at £1 ($1.93).

At present, a serious independent candidate could still announce a run.

Polling expert John Curtice told the BBC that Farage had been hoping for a “very substantial political circus” but may end up with a “relatively damp squib” if no one challenges him properly.

Farage’s decision to step down means the investigation by Daniel Greenberg, the parliamentary commissioner for standards, into the Harborne donation will be temporarily suspended.

The government on Wednesday granted Farage’s request to quit and a by-election should take place within 35 days.

“If he wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won’t stop him,” finance minister Rachel Reeves said on X.

Farage comfortably won Clacton in 2024 with a majority of 8,405 and more than 46 per cent of the vote.

If he is re-elected, the probe would likely resume.

If Farage is found to have breached the rules, he could be suspended from the House of Commons, and another by-election may be triggered.

Costco hit with class-action lawsuit over claims of toxic heavy metals in protein powder

Costco is under scrutiny as a class-action lawsuit has been filed against the wholesale giant. The lawsuit accuses the company of selling protein powders with dangerously high levels of toxic metals, while promoting these products misleadingly as “good clean fuel.”

Earlier this week, the lawsuit was initiated in the federal court for the Western District of Washington. Allegations claim that Costco failed to inform consumers about the presence of significant amounts of arsenic, cadmium, and lead in its Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder, substances that can pose significant health risks.

The plaintiffs in this case are not only seeking punitive damages but also want a court mandate that compels Costco to disclose the heavy metals in their products. They argue that the retailer engaged in unfair trade practices and breached several state laws, suggesting that Costco was aware or should have been aware of the dangerous metals.

The lawsuit focuses on Costco’s marketing of Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder. Orgain

“Many consumers who purchase and consume protein powder do so regularly, with a strong emphasis on maintaining their fitness and health,” stated Steve Berman, managing partner and co-founder of Hagens Berman, the Seattle-based law firm representing the plaintiffs.

Berman further noted, “These very health-conscious buyers have repeatedly been exposed to alarming levels of hazardous heavy metals — including lead, cadmium, and arsenic — all the while trusting that Costco’s quality checks would have prevented such an oversight.”

Costco and Orgain did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday cited an investigation by the Clean Label Project and Consumer Reports, which found that Orgain’s Vanilla Bean protein powder exceeded its “level of concern” for lead.

Independent laboratory testing conducted by one of the plaintiffs and plaintiffs’ counsel confirmed the presence of heavy metals in Orgain’s Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Fudge powders, according to the suit.

Orgain has said its products are safe for daily use despite the Consumer Reports investigation, and their protein powders are not facing any recalls – currently being sold by Costco and other major retailers including Amazon, Target and Walmart.

There is no known safe level of exposure to heavy metals, and exposure can pose serious health risks, including cancers; liver, kidney and brain damage; reproductive disorders; skin disorders; and cardiovascular disease, according to the World Health Organization and US Food & Drug Administration.

Yet Costco sold the product in stores and online without disclosing the presence of heavy metals, calling it “good clean fuel,” saying the powders have “quality ingredients and higher standards” and that Orgain is “relentless about quality,” according to the lawsuit.

The suit also alleged that consumers purchased the protein powders at a higher price – about $30 per container – because they believed they were purchasing a health supplement, and they would have opted for cheaper alternatives if they were made aware of the presence of toxic metals.

As the market for protein powders and other health supplements has exploded, so has the presence of toxic heavy metals in these products, according to the Consumer Reports investigation.

More than two-thirds of the 23 protein powders and ready-to-drink shakes tested by Consumer Reports contained more lead than food safety experts said would be safe to consume in a day – some by more than 10 times.

A model has become an internet sensation due to her remarkable likeness to football star Erling Haaland and is rooting for him to outplay England and lead Norway to a World Cup victory.

Anastasia Kostromitina, a 24-year-old from Russia, was initially hesitant about the resemblance but has since embraced the striking similarity.

Her influencer mother, Mariya, 56, choreographed a video in which Anastasia appeared, and it rapidly gained viral attention.

The entertaining clip starts with a question from her mother: ‘Is it just me, or does my daughter look like a star?’

In the video, Anastasia imitates Haaland’s distinct gestures, poses, and movements with precision.

Although the model is now ‘tired’ of her sudden fame, she is backing Manchester City’s perennial top scorer to sink England at the quarter-finals on Saturday.

‘Of course we’ll be cheering for Norway, and we’re hoping Erling Haaland goes all the way,’ Mariya said.

She called the forward – who has scored seven goals from four appearances so far – ‘an absolute powerhouse’.

Moscow–based Anastasia, whose father served in the Soviet Red Army, ‘initially denied the resemblance, but eventually changed her mind,’ revealed Life news outlet.

‘To be honest, I went through all the stages of denial about it,’ said the model, whose video had four million–plus views.

‘And at first, I didn’t understand how I resembled him. Then I felt a little hurt.

‘But now I understand that being like such a great athlete, even if only physically, is actually quite good. And I decided to capitalise on that.’

She was not expecting it to be so popular.

‘My entire feed was filled with videos of girls who looked like him, and I thought, “Why not make one too?”

‘Especially since their videos were getting a lot of views.

Catherine, Princess of Wales Conquers Three Peaks Challenge Amidst Harsh Weather

In her quest to conquer the towering peaks of Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis, and Snowdon—the tallest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales respectively—the 44-year-old royal faced substantial meteorological adversity. This formidable expedition served a noble purpose: raising much-needed funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Catherine, Princess of Wales completed the Three Peaks challenge last month

The image of Catherine, Princess of Wales conquering the Three Peaks serves as an inspiration, a vivid reminder of the power of will and purpose.

Undeterred by the challenging conditions, Catherine and her fellow climbers pushed on with steadfast resolve. Their journey, marked by relentless spirit, saw them upholding a “stoic” attitude, which proved essential in completing the rigorous climb within the 24-hour time frame. This endeavor, not only highlighted the Princess’s physical endurance but also underscored her commitment to philanthropy.

Catherine – who was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in 2024 before confirming that she was in remission the following year – told former British tennis star Tim Henman and All England Club chair Deborah Jevans on the Overheard at Wimbledon podcast: “Part of the journey was trying to enjoy the process, the training beforehand, but also making time… during the walk to meet people and enjoy the journey, rather than just quickly getting to the top.

“The weather was atrocious. Everybody got soaked through, but it was a very sort of stoically British thing to do. You’re soaking wet and everyone’s going: ‘Come on, we can do it.”

It comes after Georgia took to her Instagram earlier in the month to share a cute bikini-clad first-trimester video taken before her first scan.

The clip began with Georgia looking sensational in a stylish baby blue bikini and white lace beach trousers as she enjoyed a day at the beach.

She then unbuttoned her trousers and cradled her tummy while lip-syncing to the popular TikTok audio: ‘Are you real? I dunno, you seem a little sus.’

She cheekily captioned the video: ‘Me before I had my first ultrasound.’

The star recently revealed she has a ‘whole new drive’ to change the world for the better – just weeks after announcing she is expecting her first child.

The reality TV star explained in a new interview that she wants to make the world a better environment for her unborn baby to grow up in by continuing her campaigning on the issue of revenge porn.

Georgia told OK! Magazine: ‘I initially thought of my little sisters and brother when I was campaigning – hoping to make things different for them.

Georgia met Jack, 33, on a dating app last summer and described her pregnancy as a ‘beautiful surprise’.

Georgia said: ‘We both definitely wanted children, but we didn’t quite plan on it this soon, we might’ve tried to have a fun summer beforehand! But once we’d taken it in, we realised this was the right time.

The star added that it’s ‘amazing to have the gift of being pregnant’, as so many people struggle for a long time and for some, the dream never comes true.

Georgia also explained to the publication that she was hesitant before starting her relationship with City worker Jack after her former partner, Stephen Bear, 35, shared a private video of them on the internet without her consent.

The Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins star explained that she was quite ‘pessimistic’ about love in general after the ordeal. However, she wanted to make an effort to meet someone.

‘I still can’t believe I’ve finally got everything I ever wanted and I couldn’t be more grateful…And just like that 2 are about to become 3.’

Ohio Family Drama: Relative Forced Into Isolation After Discovery of 16 Neglected Children

In a shocking discovery in Ohio, 16 children were found living in deplorable conditions, prompting a relative of the accused family members to break their silence.

Ronnie Fletcher, married to one of the adult children of Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders, expressed disbelief to WOWK, explaining that the family was unaware of the appalling situation where the children were found living among filth and overcrowding.

“Had we known about the conditions in that house,” Fletcher insisted, “we would have taken action ourselves, whether that meant bringing the kids to live with us or providing financial help.”

What Are the Allegations Against the Siders Family?

The parents, Gary Sr., Christina, along with Gary Siders Jr. and Elizabeth Siders, are facing serious legal charges. Authorities have charged them with 16 counts of child endangerment following the discovery of the children, aged 18 months to 18 years, in squalor inside a Vinton County residence. According to a statement from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, all four family members have pleaded not guilty.

At a July 1 press conference streamed by WBNS, Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain painted a grim picture of the living conditions, comparing it unfavorably even to that of livestock. “The presence of bacteria and human feces was high,” he said, describing the scene as “just a disgusting sight.”

Officials described the children, who were not attending school, as having limited speech abilities and spending most of the last four years inside a 12 by 12 room. According to Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson, who also spoke at the press conference, the children looked “almost feral.”

Siders Family Relative Reports Getting Death Threats

Fletcher—who described having a “distant” relationship with the family—said he was “horrified” to learn about the conditions and worried for the children.

“We did not really know what was going on there,” he told WOWK. “The last time we heard from them, we gave them a car, and that’s probably close to a year ago now.”

He added that the family had kept them at “arm’s length” and he hadn’t been sure how many children had been living at the home.

“We knew they didn’t go to a school,” he said, “but we was always told they was being homeschooled.”

In the aftermath of the arrests, Fletcher said his family has faced intense public scrutiny.

“It’s been awful for the people that had no idea that was going on the house that are related to this family,” he told the outlet. “I mean, we’ve had death threats—we’ve been told that we need to be put in front of an execution line of guns and, you know, killed and burned. I mean, it’s been bad.”

Fletcher said his family is now living as “hermits” and his wife is afraid to go to work as a result of the threats.

“So all this is taking money off our table,” he said, “because we can’t live our normal lives because the way these people are trying to treat us on something we didn’t have nothing to do with.”

Elizabeth Siders’ Attorney Says She is Mother to All 16 Children

In the days after the arrest, new details are emerging about the Siders family.

Elizabeth’s attorney Tommy Stolly told WBNS that it’s believed that Elizabeth is the mother of all 16 children.

She wed Gary Jr. in 2008 at the age of 15 and gave birth to her first child just two months later, the outlet reported.

“At this point in time, we are still not sure, at least at my office, whether my client is a victim herself or not,” Stolly told the outlet. “I have previously stated she does not characterize herself as a victim, but the investigation from the prosecutor’s office and my office is still ongoing.”

He described his client as being in shock about the arrest.

Oxygen reached out to Stolly, but did not receive an immediate reply. Oxygen also reached out to Gary Jr.’s attorney R. Lee Roberts Jr., who declined to comment on the allegations or teen marriage.

Ohio vital statistic records obtained by WOWK, also show that Elizabeth gave birth prematurely at 24 weeks to conjoined twins at a Columbus hospital on Nov. 20, 2022.

The girls—named Bailey Lee and Faith Lee Siders—were conjoined with thoracopagus, the most common form of conjoined twins which results in them being joined at the face, chest and upper abdomen, per the records. Their parents were listed as Elizabeth and Gary Siders Jr.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Oxygen, none of the charges the couple is now facing are connected to any children born the same date as the conjoined twins, who died of natural causes.

Though the four family members were initially facing 17 charges, a spokesperson for the Ohio Attorney General’s Office confirmed to Oxygen that they were each arraigned on 16 counts.

All four are currently being held on $300,000 bond, prosecutors said.

Analyzing the Shortcomings of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Adaptation

In the days following the release of the second season of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” on Netflix in June 2026, reports surfaced revealing a sharp decline in viewership compared to its inaugural season. Facing numerous production challenges, the series struggled to find its footing, with critiques often highlighting its persistent identity crisis. Although the third and final season is slated for a 2027 release on Netflix, it’s apparent that the show hasn’t met expectations. While the original animated “Last Airbender” broke new ground and became a cultural phenomenon, its live-action adaptation has unfortunately not managed to capture the same magic and is struggling to gain traction.

While critics might be quick to point fingers at the inherent difficulties in transforming a beloved animated series into a live-action format, there are deeper issues contributing to its lackluster performance on Netflix. “Avatar: The Last Airbender” falters for several reasons, many rooted in the shadows cast by previous adaptations, which were beyond the current creative team’s control.

Moreover, internal artistic challenges have hindered “Avatar: The Last Airbender” from achieving its full potential. These are compounded by the type of content that typically thrives on Netflix. While this version of “The Last Airbender” has seen audiences drift away, dissecting exactly what went wrong offers a trove of insights.

There is inherent toxicity surrounding live-action Avatar material

A significant hurdle for Netflix’s “Last Airbender” is overcoming the negative legacy left by M. Night Shyamalan’s 2010 film adaptation, which tarnished the live-action concept for many fans. The movie was plagued from inception by casting controversies related to accusations of whitewashing and was marred by various other issues, establishing a challenging reputation that the Netflix series struggles against.

The film’s script was widely criticized for poor dialogue, and attempts to translate the dynamic element-bending of the animated series into live-action were seen as laughable. The young cast’s performances suffered from inadequate direction, and scenes that bewildered fans only compounded the movie’s flaws. In the end, “The Last Airbender” was deemed one of the worst films upon release, almost instantly tainting the idea of translating this franchise from the animated realm.

With “Avatar: The Last Airbender” fans rejecting the last attempt to remake this story into live-action, Netflix’s foray into live-action “Airbender” media was always working at a disadvantage. Those dreadful first impressions are impossible to recover from.

The most successful Netflix shows are often original IP

Netflix has spent a pretty penny on its various exclusive TV shows ever since it started launching original programming in 2013, and Netflix’s all-time most expensive shows vividly demonstrate just how costly this practice has become. All those dollars, though, haven’t been able to counter the reality that Netflix TV shows are often more successful when they’re based on an original IP (or at least material that hasn’t been adapted into live-action before). With the exception of “Wednesday,” the biggest Netflix shows in history are original programs that originated with the streamer, like “Bridgerton,” “Stranger Things,” or “Squid Game.” Attempts to recreate and/or continue past pop culture successes, like “That ’90s Show” or “Cowboy Bebop,” just don’t catch on.

After all, audiences already have “Resident Evil” properties they can watch elsewhere, but “Stranger Things” or “Squid Game” stood out as something unique you couldn’t get anywhere else. “Avatar: The Last Airbender” appears to have suffered from this same phenomenon. Given that it was just adapting the familiar and beloved cartoon seasons of “Last Airbender” into live-action, fans could just revisit those pre-existing episodes rather than risk venturing into another live-action “Avatar”  mess.

In other words, Netflix’s “Last Airbender” wasn’t singular enough to stand out in the crowded streaming programming landscape. But if it’s any consolation to the folks behind the show, “Last Airbender” is one of several Netflix TV show remakes/continuations that suffered from this problem.

The show couldn’t escape its middling reputation

When the live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” show began airing in February 2024, its initial critical response wasn’t exactly glowing. On the contrary, the generally middling reviews had people claiming that “Avatar: The Last Airbender” was a live-action remake bound to annoy fans and bore newcomers. A hefty Netflix budget and lots of familiar character names weren’t enough to get people actually invested in the program. Particular criticism was directed at the dreary atmosphere, a problem that also besieged the 2010 movie. The years and storytelling mediums had changed, but the problems plaguing live-action “Last Airbender” adaptations persisted.

Given that the inaugural season failed to garner much of an independent or passionate fanbase, there just wasn’t much buzz or demand for further “Last Airbender” episodes. Inevitably, this show’s second season suffered from a mighty drop in viewership. How could it not? “Avatar: The Last Airbender” was built on a pre-existing brand name, but it failed to cultivate either a fanbase or distinctive personality that could guarantee strong viewership. The fact that the general critical reception for Season 2 didn’t improve much likely also kept fans from giving this Netflix production another shot.

Given how many TV shows are out there (including accessible reruns of the original “Avatar: The Last Airbender”), you need something special to stand out to people. A middlingly received “Last Airbender” remake that zapped all the fun from this universe wasn’t going to inspire viewership enthusiasm.

The second season faced tremendous competition

In general, Netflix shows in 2025 and 2026 have struggled to keep viewership momentum up for their second seasons. That means the steep viewership drop for the second season of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is part of a larger problem with the streaming platform. Still, “The Last Airbender” could have mitigated some of that bleeding if Netflix had chosen a better spot to launch this season. These seven episodes hit Netflix on June 25, 2026, just four days after the third season premiere of “House of the Dragon” aired on HBO. With critics dubbing this season of “House of the Dragon” season a fiery triumph, there was a lot of upbeat buzz surrounding the “Game of Thrones” prequel’s return.

Such buzz already overshadowed Season 2 of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” To compound these problems, the fifth and final season of “The Bear” also debuted all eight of its episodes on June 25, 2026. On the surface, neither “House” nor “The Bear” may seem like they’re directly targeting the same audience as “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” However, given the massive costs of this program, “The Last Airbender” needed to be an all-ages TV event to register as a success. In contrast, its second season premiered just as “The Bear” and “House of the Dragon” dominated all TV conversation.

Thanks to this baffling scheduling, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” inevitably succumbed to Netflix’s pervasive problem with creating multi-season hit shows. There was no room for this program’s second season in the crowded late June 2026 landscape.

There is growing audience disillusionment with live-action remakes

In recent years, some of Disney’s biggest box office bombs of all time have belonged to the once financially bulletproof genre of live-action remakes of the studio’s classic animated fare. “Mufasa: The Lion King” and 2025’s “Lilo and Stitch” showed these titles could still make major cash, but recent titles like “Cruella” and “Snow White” failed to make a dent with audiences. Meanwhile, advanced ticket sales and tracking for the live-action take on “Moana” haven’t been extraordinary. Unsurprisingly, the Mouse House has begun shelving some planned live-action remakes, including new takes on “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “The Aristocats.”

This suggests that audiences have begun to grow a bit weary of the cavalcade of live-action remakes of beloved animated properties. With animated storytelling of all stripes ruling over the box office and streaming landscape, these live-action retreads of familiar stories feel extra redundant. People are more interested in fresh animated tales like “Hoppers” or “KPop Demon Hunters,” not live-action retellings of recognizable yarns (albeit now with less color and personality). Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender” seems to have gotten caught up in this shifting cultural status quo.

What could have been a big hit in 2018 or 2019 is now out of step with current audience demands. 2025’s box office hits like “Lilo and Stitch” and “How to Train Your Dragon” suggest there’s still some place for these stories, but “The Last Airbender” going up in flames also reflects the perilous reality these productions must now contend with.

Federal Inmates Set to Receive Tablets for Messaging in Bureau of Prisons’ Modernization Initiative

0

In a move designed to promote educational and career progression among federal inmates, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) plans to distribute tablets to its prison population. The initiative underscores the agency’s commitment to shaping a rehabilitative environment behind bars.

Announced this past Wednesday, the BOP revealed it had sealed a transformative tablet services contract aimed at overhauling its approach to communication, education, rehabilitation, and day-to-day operations in its facilities nationwide. This development is part of a larger effort to modernize and improve the prison system.

With the introduction of these devices, inmates will also gain access to secure messaging and video services. These tools are intended to foster stronger, healthier relationships with family and friends, a proven strategy that has been linked to reduced recidivism rates.

Per the announcement, the tablets will be made available to all inmates in BOP custody. There are more than 138,000 prisoners in federal corrections facilities.

“Our first priority is the safety of our staff and the security of our institutions,” said BOP Director William K. Marshall III. “This contract modernizes outdated operations, reduces administrative burdens, and allows staff to focus on the critical work of maintaining safe facilities while expanding opportunities for rehabilitation and successful reentry.”

Officials said the tablets will assist inmates with literacy support, evidence-based rehabilitative programs, faith-based materials, health care information and job preparation content.

The tablets will also reduce administrative burden for staff by moving traditionally paper-dependent tasks, such as commissary ordering and program registration, onto a digital platform.

The BOP stressed that the devices will be rolled out in phases across its vast network of prisons, with each implementation being guided by “strict security protocols and oversight.”

The timeline for the rollout is not clear. Fox News reached out to the BOP for further comment.

Virtually every state prison system now has some form of tablet program, though the scope, vendor, features, and rollout model vary widely. In 2019, only a dozen states had tablets in prisons, according to Law360.

Oregon is the most recent state to begin implementing a model where each inmate gets their own tablet.

In April, the state’s Department of Corrections said one of the primary motivations for doing this was to cut down on drugs getting smuggled into prisons through the mail.

Once the program is fully in place, officials will scan inmate’s mail and send it to them via their tablet, cutting off any ability for them to receive illicit packages while behind bars, Oregon’s DOC said in June.
