West Virginia Police Department Dismisses Entire Force Amid Evidence Room Controversy

0

A small town in West Virginia has become embroiled in a heated debate after its entire police force was dismissed without warning. This dramatic move, coming shortly after the police chief’s resignation, has led to public outrage, accusations of government overreach, and increasingly loud calls for greater transparency.

“Effective immediately, the Mayor and City Council have dismissed all members of the Barrackville Police Department,” read an announcement shared by the department on their official Facebook page on Tuesday.

The message continued, expressing profound gratitude for the unwavering support, trust, and encouragement received from the Barrackville community throughout their tenure. Serving and safeguarding the town was described as both an honor and a privilege.

The news left the local residents in disbelief and signaled the sudden dissolution of the modest police department. This incident unfolded just months after officials had celebrated a new chief’s appointment with the aim of revitalizing the force.

In December 2025, the department announced Zachary Freeburn’s appointment as its new full-time chief of police, highlighting his graduation from the West Virginia State Police Academy, his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and his advanced Drug Recognition Expert certification.

“We look forward to continuing to rebuild and strengthen our department to better serve our community, and we are excited to once again have a full-time officer leading our agency,” the department wrote at the time.

Less than seven months later, that effort had unraveled.

Last week, the department announced that Freeburn had resigned “effective immediately.” The agency said Sgt. Hunt would serve as officer in charge while assuring residents that police operations would continue.

“Until further notice, Sergeant Hunt will serve as the officer in charge of the Barrackville Police Department to ensure the continued operation of the department,” the department said, adding that questions about the leadership transition could be addressed at the next town council meeting.

Instead, the department itself was relieved of duty days later.

A letter Freeburn wrote before the department was dismissed offers his account of why he stepped down.

The letter, which was shared with WBOY and intended to be read at the July 7 town council meeting before it was canceled, alleges that shortly after the newly elected town council took office, he was called into a closed-door meeting where he was told a council member would directly supervise the police department and implement operational changes.

Freeburn wrote that he objected because he believed those directives violated West Virginia law governing municipal police departments. He said that when he attempted to discuss the proposed changes, he was told, “If I give you a directive you follow it… I am in charge and what I say goes.”

He described the situation as creating what he believed would become a hostile work environment and said those concerns ultimately led him to resign.

In the letter, Freeburn also wrote that one of the biggest complaints he heard from residents was a lack of transparency at town hall. He said he chose to resign so the issues could be brought into the open, expressing hope that residents would finally receive “the transparency that they have been asking for.”

The letter notes it was written before the announcement that the entire police department had been relieved of duty.

Former Barrackville Police Sgt. Hunt, who has been publicly identified only by his last name, told WBOY that he discovered the police evidence room had allegedly been entered when he arrived at the department Tuesday morning.

Hunt alleged town officials had previously discussed conducting an inventory of the department without officers present. He also claimed that during a meeting with Mayor Tom Straight and members of the town council, Councilmember Alex Neville acknowledged taking a set of police keys.

According to Hunt, after he accused town officials of entering the evidence room, he and another officer, who together made up the department’s entire sworn force, were immediately relieved of duty. Hunt also said he informed town officials that he intended to seek whistleblower protections.

News Media has not independently verified Hunt’s allegations.

The controversy appears to have been brewing even before the department was dismissed.

Following Freeburn’s resignation, a Barrackville resident launched an online petition urging the town council to reinstate him, arguing that he had been “forced to resign due to what many residents believe was unnecessary overreach by the newly elected Town Council.”

The petition calls on town leaders to reconsider the circumstances surrounding the resignation, restore public confidence through transparency and reinstate Freeburn as police chief.

“Our Police Chief quickly earned the trust, respect, and appreciation of our community through his professionalism, leadership, integrity, and commitment to keeping Barrackville safe,” the petition states. “Although his time serving our town was brief, his impact was undeniable.”

Organizers also urged residents to attend the July 7 town council meeting to voice their concerns. The meeting was later canceled.

In a Facebook post, the Barrackville Town Council announced the meeting had been canceled because of “a lack of sufficient information regarding items listed under unfinished business.”

The cancellation has only fueled questions from residents, many of whom flooded social media demanding answers.

“Time to do some deep background on the city council. The truth is not being told,” one commenter wrote beneath the police department’s announcement.

Another resident joked, “Who is gonna look over the 5 residents in Barrackville now?”

Barrackville, a town of about 1,200 people in north-central West Virginia, is located about 25 miles southwest of Morgantown.

Marion County Sheriff Roger Cunningham previously told WBOY that the sheriff’s office will continue responding to calls in Barrackville, as it routinely does throughout Marion County, ensuring residents continue receiving law enforcement services despite the town no longer having an active police department.

Town officials have not publicly explained why the entire department was relieved of duty or responded to the allegations raised by former officers.

News Media has reached out to the Barrackville Police Department, Straight, members of the Barrackville Town Council and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for comment. News Media has also contacted the West Virginia Municipal League seeking clarification on the authority of municipal officials over police department operations under state law.

Top 5 Essential Exercises for Men Over 50 to Maintain Youthful Vitality

Are you over 50 and aiming to remain strong and active? Here are five exercises, endorsed by trainers, designed to help you achieve that goal.

>

Reaching 50 doesn’t have to signal a slowdown, but it does introduce new challenges for the body. As we age, muscle mass gradually diminishes, joints become stiffer, and recovery from extended inactivity demands more time. From my experience as a trainer, the men who maintain their strength into their 60s and 70s aren’t necessarily those who lift the heaviest weights. Instead, their secret lies in committing to simple, consistent movements that ensure their bodies remain in top condition every day.

There’s a common misconception that staying youthful demands grueling workouts or costly fitness regimens. However, the key difference lies in preserving the core abilities that aging often compromises first: strength, balance, mobility, posture, and cardiovascular stamina. By integrating a few carefully selected exercises into your daily routine, you can support these essential qualities. These exercises not only make everyday activities like yard work and golf easier but also enhance your ability to keep pace with grandchildren and conquer stairs. The aim isn’t to regain the performance of a 25-year-old but to continue moving with the vitality of someone decades younger.

Having coached many men over 50 for years, I’ve observed that those living active, independent lives typically adhere to a routine centered on functional movements. They don’t seek to set new personal records every day. Rather, their focus is on strengthening the muscles they will rely upon in the years ahead. These five exercises have proven essential as they cultivate full-body strength while maintaining mobility, energy, and capability well beyond their 50s.

Push-Ups

If I had to choose one upper-body exercise for men over 50, push-ups would always be near the top of the list. They strengthen the chest, shoulders, triceps, core, and even the muscles responsible for stabilizing the shoulder blades. Unlike many gym machines, push-ups teach your body to move as one coordinated unit, which translates directly into everyday activities. I often remind clients that the goal isn’t performing dozens of repetitions immediately but building consistent strength with excellent technique. Over time, even a few quality sets each morning help preserve muscle mass and upper-body power.

How to Do It

  • Begin in a high plank position.
  • Place your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  • Keep your body in a straight line.
  • Lower your chest toward the floor.
  • Push back to the starting position.
  • Perform 8 to 15 repetitions.

5 Standing Exercises That Shrink Front Belly Bulge Faster Than Gym Sessions After 55

Bodyweight Squats

Strong legs keep men independent as they age, and bodyweight squats remain one of the most effective ways to build that strength. Every repetition strengthens the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and core while reinforcing the same movement used for standing up, sitting down, and lifting objects safely. I recommend squats almost daily because they improve mobility and maintain lower-body muscle without requiring equipment. Clients who stay consistent often notice easier stair climbing, stronger walking endurance, and better balance. Few exercises offer as much value in such a simple package.

How to Do It

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Brace your core.
  • Push your hips back.
  • Lower until comfortable.
  • Drive through your heels to stand.
  • Complete 10 to 15 repetitions.

Bird Dog

A strong core involves much more than visible abdominal muscles. The deep muscles surrounding your spine determine how well you lift, twist, carry, and maintain posture throughout the day. Bird dogs challenge those stabilizers while strengthening the glutes, shoulders, and back at the same time. I frequently use this exercise with men who spend long hours sitting because it restores coordination between the upper and lower body. Better core stability also helps reduce unnecessary stress on the lower back during daily activities.

How to Do It

  • Begin on your hands and knees.
  • Extend your right arm forward.
  • Extend your left leg behind you.
  • Hold briefly.
  • Return with control.
  • Alternate sides for 10 repetitions each.

If You Can Hold a Wall Sit This Long After 50, Your Lower-Body Power Is Stronger Than 90% of Peers

Farmer’s Carry

One of the biggest predictors of healthy aging involves grip strength, and few exercises improve it better than the farmer’s carry. Holding weight while walking strengthens the hands, forearms, shoulders, core, and legs simultaneously. I often tell clients that this movement prepares them for real life because it mimics carrying groceries, luggage, and countless other everyday objects. It also reinforces upright posture while challenging balance and endurance. Strong grip and strong posture often go hand in hand as the years go by.

How to Do It

  • Hold a dumbbell or kettlebell in each hand.
  • Stand tall.
  • Pull your shoulders back.
  • Walk at a controlled pace.
  • Maintain good posture.
  • Continue for 30 to 60 seconds.

Standing Single-Leg Balance

Balance often declines quietly with age until a stumble or fall makes it impossible to ignore. That’s why I encourage every man over 50 to spend at least a minute each day standing on one leg. This simple drill strengthens the ankles, hips, and core while improving coordination and reaction time. Clients are often surprised by how challenging it feels during the first few attempts, but improvement comes quickly with daily practice. Better balance supports everything from sports and hiking to safely navigating uneven sidewalks.

How to Do It

  • Stand next to a sturdy chair.
  • Shift your weight onto one leg.
  • Lift the opposite foot slightly off the floor.
  • Focus on a point straight ahead.
  • Hold for 20 to 30 seconds.
  • Repeat on the opposite leg.

From Hollywood Oddity to Literary Success: The Unlikely Journey of an Actor-Turned-Novelist

For many in the entertainment industry, the road to Hollywood is as unique as it is winding. Kirk Fox, whose multifaceted career includes notable roles in “Parks and Recreation,” “Jury Duty,” and “Reservation Dogs,” as well as the recent release of his novel “Palmdale” in June, found his unexpected muse in an unconventional arena.

That muse was tennis.

In a candid conversation with the California Post for their “California Roots” series, Fox revealed, “Tennis was the agent for my first 10 movies.” His initial foray into the film world was not through casting calls or agents, but rather through the connections he forged on the tennis court.

One of his most memorable Hollywood stories involved teaching tennis to Lawrence Kasdan, the esteemed director. “Kasdan was preparing to shoot ‘Wyatt Earp,’ and during our lessons, he asked if I could ride a horse,” recalled Fox. He humorously recounted his confident but misleading reply, “Like the wind.” Reality soon caught up when, on the set, Kasdan realized Fox’s equestrian skills were not quite as promised. To ensure his safety during filming, Kasdan placed him on a much smaller horse, a courteous gesture that kept his tennis pro – and budding actor – from injury.

Fox, who hails from San Diego, where he played tennis at UCSD, also found a very different sort of side hustle from tennis.

“Everyone I was teaching tennis to wanted me to look into something, so you can call it whatever you want,” Fox explained. “I think at the end of the day, we’re all private investigators. I don’t know anyone that’s not investigating something.”

Years later, Fox channeled his amateur P.I. work into his debut novel, “Palmdale.”

“It’s about a private investigator who’s teamed up with his daughter that he hasn’t seen in a long time,” Fox said. “And they’re investigating a body that was found in Palmdale, and we traced it back to Bel Air. It’s very noir. It’s a lot of Humphrey Bogart, Mickey Spillane. It’s gritty, it’s dusty.”

Fox wrote some of what ended up in “Palmdale” decades ago, and is now writing a sequel set in San Diego.

“Every day I write, I just never finished anything,” Fox said. “So I’m still scratching that itch. And I write all my stand up.”

That’s right. Along with acting (Fox will next appear in Sterlin Harjo’s “Reservation Dogs” follow-up “The Lowdown” on FX), he took up stand-up comedy and has now “gone up more than 6,000 times.”

“My first show was November 10, 2002 at the Comedy Store,” Fox recalled. “I was deep in my 30s and I needed something to do at night.”

That gig bombed. “I will say it was the last time I talked about religion,” Fox said.

18-year-old detained for firearm incident at MLK Jr. Multipurpose Center

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a tense incident at the MLK Jr. Multipurpose Center, 18-year-old Antwon Kenshae Towns found himself in custody after allegedly brandishing a firearm during a confrontation between two groups. The events unfolded on July 7 around 3:51 p.m., prompting a swift response from the Gainesville Police Department.

According to accounts from those at the scene, as the victim and her family approached the park located at 1100 NE 14th Street, Towns allegedly approached them accompanied by several others. Anticipating trouble, the victim began filming the situation.

During the encounter, Towns reportedly lifted his shirt, revealing a black firearm tucked into his waistband. Witnesses claim that he issued threats, instilling a significant sense of fear in the victim. Subsequently, Towns was seen moving behind the MLK Center before reappearing without the weapon.

A K-9 team from the Gainesville Police Department then conducted a search of the area behind the building. Their efforts led to the discovery of two firearms: a black Taurus G2C and a Glock 48 9mm. The incident underscores the ongoing concerns about gun violence and safety in community spaces.

The victim identified Towns and said she was familiar with him due to an ongoing dispute between their families.

Post Miranda, Towns reportedly denied possessing a firearm and denied making any threats toward the victim. He said the victim and an unidentified male approached his group while they were sitting in a vehicle and said something in their direction, but he did not tell the officer what was said.

Towns, who told Court Services he is an Eastside High School student, has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and unlawful concealed carry of a firearm. He has juvenile convictions between 2023 and 2026 that include a felony conviction for robbery. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $100,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Argentina’s Tactical Mastermind and Taylor Highlight World Cup Standouts as Morocco’s Trio Dazzles Ahead of Semifinal Clash

0

With ninety-six matches already behind us in the 2026 World Cup, the stage is finally set for an exciting quarter-final showdown featuring the tournament’s top eight teams.

Before we dive into the much-anticipated quarter-finals, it’s worth revisiting the gripping events of the round of 16, where the competition delivered an array of emotions. This stage witnessed intense drama, with everything from last-minute heroics to contentious decisions, goalless stalemates, and nerve-wracking penalty shoot-outs.

Amid these high-stakes encounters, certain players emerged as standout performers, delivering critical contributions for their nations at pivotal moments. As we reflect on these games, Daily Mail Sport highlights Sofascore’s Team of the Round of 16, spotlighting those who excelled.

GK: Gregor Kobel (Switzerland) – 9.3/10

Switzerland can offer their gratitude to Gregor Kobel, whose heroics between the posts secured their advancement to the quarter-finals. After a grueling 120 minutes in Vancouver against Colombia ended in a scoreless draw, Kobel’s pivotal save during the penalty shoot-out ensured Switzerland’s place in the next round.

The match against Colombia presented tense moments, notably in the 21st minute when Colombia’s Gustavo Puerta was on the verge of scoring. However, Kobel’s alert reflexes saw him expertly redirect Puerta’s curling shot. Moreover, the Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper outdid himself in extra time, thwarting a close-range header from Jaminton Campaz aimed at the near post, further solidifying his indispensable role in Switzerland’s triumph.

Kobel also won all three of his duels, completed 39 passes and nine long balls. His key contribution came in the shoot-out to spare Manuel Akanji’s blushes, after he blazed his spot kick over the crossbar.

La Tricolor’s Juan Hernandez was next to step up and opted for power, rifling his strike to Kobel’s right. The 28-year-old sprung across to meet the effort and parry it away. His stop gave Switzerland the advantage, which was later capitalised on by Ruben Vargas who scored the winning penalty.

RB: Achraf Hakimi (Morocco) – 7.4/10

Building on his strong performances from the group stages, Achraf Hakimi earned the right-back spot for his well-rounded display in Morocco’s 3-0 win over co-hosts Canada.

The first half of the match lacked quality but Morocco came into their own after the interval. Hakimi was at the heart of everything – he had 90 touches, made seven defensive contributions and won eight duels.

Most importantly, the rapid right-back assisted Azzedine Ounahi’s first goal, which broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half.

It was his third assist at a World Cup, meaning he is just one away from joining Daley Blind, Denzel Dumfries and Cafu for most assists from defenders since 1966.

Morocco went on to take full control of affairs from there and became the first team to take their place in the quarter-finals.

CB: Cristian Romero (Argentina) 7.7/10

Argentina’s epic comeback against Egypt was one of the games of the tournament and Cristian Romero was the man to kickstart the turnaround.

After 78 minutes, the reigning champions looked down and out. Many believed we were witnessing the greatest shock of the World Cup. But Argentina showed exactly why they are the current title holders, finding another moment of magic to flip the game on its head.

Lionel Messi’s pinpoint cross was nodded home by Romero from just outside the six yard box. When that moment happened, everyone in the ground knew what was to happen next.

Against Cape Verde, it was Lisandro Martinez who popped up with a late goal to send Argentina on their way and this time, it was Romero’s turn.

CB: Dayot Upamecano (France) – 7.5/10

France cruised through their group and round of 32 tie, but in the last 16, Paraguay made them work for their win.

Paraguay set up very defensively, which meant France’s defence didn’t come under pressure. When they did, though, Dayot Upamecano always seemed to be there snuffing out any danger. He made the joint most defensive contributions (12) and won seven out of nine duels.

His centre-back partner William Saliba made just as many defensive contributions but Upamecano stood out for his work in possession.

The 27-year-old helped build a lot of attacks, making line-breaking passes towards the front line. In total, he made 11 passes into the final third and created one chance.

LB: Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco) – 7.9/10

On the left side of defence is Hakimi’s teammate Noussair Mazraoui, who also played a vital role in Morocco’s win over Canada.

The Manchester United defender has hardly put a foot wrong throughout his four starts for the AFCON winners so far, completing 176/199 passes and making 46 defensive contributions.

Against Jesse Marsch’s Canada, Mazraoui put on another assured display, making the most defensive contributions for a fourth time this summer (14) and winning 12 duels. Canada were on top in the first half, so his efforts were vital to keep the score goalless heading into the interval.

Noussair Mazraoui played a key role in Morocco’s 3-0 round of 16 victory against Canada

CM: Jude Bellingham (England) – 9/10

No surprises here. Jude Bellingham was unbelievable at the Azteca as England pulled off one of their greatest ever performances.

England’s number 10 scored two vital goals inside 98 seconds to make it 2-0, becoming the first player to score twice at the Azteca since Diego Maradona in 1986 against England. What’s more, Bellingham scored both with his feet!

When it came to defensive duties, Bellingham was a brick wall. Moments before the break, with the score at 2-1, he made an incredible last-ditch intervention to poke the ball away from Cesar Montes who looked certain to equalise.

Bellingham pressed tirelessly for the entire 90 minutes and arguably worked harder than anyone else on the pitch. When the full-time whistle blew he collapsed to the floor in exhaustion. Relentless.

Jude Bellingham scored a brace in England's historic 3-2 over Mexico win at the Azteca

Jude Bellingham scored a brace in England’s historic 3-2 over Mexico win at the Azteca

CM: Leandro Paredes (Argentina) – 8.3/10

Lionel Scaloni’s general. Leandro Paredes had 130 touches against Egypt, the most out of any player on the pitch.

It was a busy afternoon for the Boca Juniors midfielder, who completed 115 passes, only misplacing four. Twenty-one of those passes were into the final third, so he was vital in getting Argentina up the pitch to create chances.

It was a slow start to the summer for Paredes who only played eight minutes across the opening two matches due to a hamstring injury.

Since returning to full fitness, the Argentine has marshalled the midfield well, protecting the backline and driving his side forward when they regained possession.

Leandro Paredes had the most touches out of any player on the pitch against Egypt

CM: Azzedine Ounahi (Morocco) – 9/10

Completing the strong Moroccan contingent in this team is Azzedine Ounahi, who netted a brace in the 3-0 win against Canada.

The goals were his first contributions of the World Cup and they couldn’t have come at a better time. One to break the deadlock and one to put the game to bed, before Soufiane Rahimi put the cherry on top with a third goal.

The Girona midfielder enjoyed a solid debut campaign in La Liga and that form has carried over to the national team in North America.

His second half double made Ounahi the first Moroccan to score twice in a World Cup match since Salaheddine Bassir against Scotland in 1998.

RW: Lionel Messi (Argentina) – 9.3/10

We are running out of words to describe this guy. Lionel Messi is the only player to maintain his spot in Sofascore’s team following the Round of 32.

Only the little magician could miss another penalty and still make it into the team of the round. The poor spot kick almost sent Argentina packing but the reigning champions dug deep to find a way past Egypt.

Later redeemed himself by assisting Romero’s goal to halve the deficit, before netting the equaliser himself with a well struck effort past Mostafa Shobeir.

Once again, Messi showed the world why you should never write him off.

ST: Erling Haaland (Norway) – 9.1/10

It’s been quite the debut World Cup campaign for Erling Haaland.

He’s on seven goals now, behind only Messi on eight. His brace against Brazil single-handedly led Norway to their first World Cup quarter-finals.

Those goals saw Haaland make some history of his own too. He became the first Norwegian player to score a brace in a knockout match in a major international tournament.

He also joined an eight-man list of European players to score in each of his first four World Cup appearances. Overall, it was the 14th game on the bounce in which he scored for Norway.

Charles De Ketelaere netted a brace to send Belgium on their way to the World Cup last eight

Charles De Ketelaere netted a brace to send Belgium on their way to the World Cup last eight

LW: Charles De Ketelaere (Belgium) – 8.5/10

If not for the late goals from Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans in the previous round, Belgium wouldn’t have made it to the round of 16 at all.

But as fate would have it, the Red Devils completed a comeback against Senegal in extra-time to send them into the round of 16.

This time, it was a far more convincing performance from Rudi Garcia’s side. It took just nine minutes for Belgium to take the lead through Charles De Ketelaere, who turned the ball home from an unmissable distance.

He doubled Belgium’s lead just after the half hour mark to send his side well on their way to an emphatic 4-1 victory against co-hosts USA.

Mother of Lynette Hooker Accuses Brian Hooker of Deception in Daughter’s Disappearance, Suggests ‘Foul Play

0

Several months after Lynette Hooker disappeared in the Bahamas, her mother is questioning the account given by Lynette’s husband, Brian Hooker, regarding the events of that fateful evening.

Lynette Hooker, who hailed from Michigan, went missing during an April vacation in the Bahamas with her husband. She was last seen on April 4 when the couple was on a boating excursion near Elbow Cay in the Abaco Islands.

According to Brian Hooker, his wife Lynette fell off their small boat at night and was carried away by the ocean’s currents as they were heading towards their sailboat, named “Soulmate.”

To this day, Lynette’s body has not been found.

Now, Lynette’s mother, Darlene Hamlett, says she believes her daughter made it back to “Soulmate” before she vanished.

Crime scene tape across the boat Soulmate belonging to Brian Hooker and his missing wife Lynette Hooker.

The boat Soulmate is docked at the U.S. Coast Guard station in Fort Pierce, Fla., on May 13, 2026. The vessel, owned by Brian Hooker and his missing wife Lynette Hooker, was brought back to the U.S. from the Bahamas by the Coast Guard. (Obtained by News Media)

Hamlett did not elaborate on how she reached that conclusion but said she has been limited in what she can publicly discuss.

“As a mother, it’s taking longer than I would anticipate, but that’s what the Coast Guard told me to say. That’s all I’m saying,” she said.

The U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service declined to comment on Hamlett’s claims, telling News Media, “We cannot comment on ongoing investigation.”

News Media also reached out to Brian Hooker’s attorney for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Hamlett’s comments come after U.S. Coast Guard investigators traveled to the Bahamas last month to conduct dive searches in the Sea of Abaco and land searches with the assistance of a cadaver dog in an effort to locate Lynette.

Investigators also returned to the United States with the dinghy Lynette was last known to be on. It is expected to undergo further forensic examination for potential evidence.

Brian Hooker initially told investigators he and his wife were on a nighttime boat ride when Lynette fell from a small dinghy and was swept away.

According to authorities, Brian said he was forced to paddle back to shore because Lynette was carrying the dinghy’s ignition key when she went overboard.

After Lynette disappeared, Brian said in a Facebook post that he was “heartbroken.”

“I am heartbroken over the recent boat accident in unpredictable seas and high winds that caused my beloved Lynette to fall from our small dinghy near Elbow Cay in the Bahamas,” he wrote.

Alabama Teen Faces Murder Charge in Mother’s Death, Allegedly Threatened Father

An Alabama teenager has been charged following a brutal knife attack on his parents in their quiet, private community. During the attack, the teen reportedly threatened his father, saying he was “gonna kill” him as he allegedly stabbed him. Newly released photos reveal the blood-stained front porch where his mother tragically lost her life.

The horrific incident was recorded by home surveillance cameras on Sunday night on Augustine Drive in the attractive Belforest complex. The footage captured the moment the 17-year-old threatened and allegedly assaulted his father with a knife.

Neighbor Shawn Scurry, 51, recounted the chilling details to The Post on Wednesday, saying, “You can hear both of them coming out of the house and there’s like one scream from the mom.”

Scurry continued, “Then the father is arguing with his son – and when I say arguing, it’s more of a desperate plea, as in, ‘Why are you doing this?’

He added that in the clip, the father repeatedly begged, “I don’t want to die. Please stop. No.” His cries for help grew louder and more desperate as he implored, “Somebody help me, please, help me,” recalled Scurry.

At one point, the audio captures the son “telling [the dad] he was gonna kill him.”

“Those words are in the video,” she said.

Meanwhile, a large pool of blood stained the front entrance of a neighbor’s home where cops say 37-year-old Samantha Baker was butchered around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Another haunting image exclusively obtained by The Post shows blood splattered and smeared across a glass window overlooking the spot where Samantha was found dead.

The bloodbath began after Samantha and her 46-year-old husband Lance Baker got into a heated argument with their 17-year-old son over a disciplinary issue inside their family home, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Captain Justin Correa told The Post Wednesday.

That’s when the boy – whose name is being withheld by police – turned a kitchen knife on his parents, allegedly stabbing them both “multiple times,” according to Correa.

The parents fled outside in a desperate bid to escape – but the attack continued.

Lance’s spine-chilling screams could be heard as he ran door to door down the block, leaving bloodied handprints on neighbors’ front doors while seeking help – with his son right on his tail, according to the traumatized neighbor.

“It was like fighting off a bee that keeps stinging you,” Scurry said, and claimed that another neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the teen repeatedly stabbing his father outside another nearby home.

Correa confirmed that doorbell camera footage of the assault had been handed over to police, and said at least “a few” of the neighbors were not home when Lance was looking for help.

Lance only “went to doors where people were on vacation – that’s why they didn’t answer and that’s why he was becoming helpless,” Scurry claimed.

Scurry, who was home at the time, only became slightly aware of the horror unfolding when she spotted the Bakers’ dog wandering around her front door.

“I walked with the dog back to their house, rang their doorbell. Nobody answered and I went around to the garage,” she recalled.

That’s when she heard cries in the distance.

“I heard… ‘Help me.’ I couldn’t find where it was coming from,” Scurry said, adding that she went back into her home after that.

The teen eventually retreated to his family’s home and called 911, said authorities, who described the attack as an isolated domestic matter.

Cops arrested him at the home without incident, according to Correa, who pushed back on reports that the alleged killer barricaded himself inside the house.

As emergency crews flooded their typically quiet street, Scurry said she stepped outside again and saw Samantha’s body before the coroner arrived.

“I saw her face down with stab wounds all over her back,” the shaken neighbor said.

Samantha, a realtor, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lance, a US Army Reserve Battalion Commander with the 1184th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion in Mobile, was flown to a local hospital in critical condition, according to cops.

As of Wednesday, the father of two was still in the hospital, where his condition had become stable, Correa said.

The teen, who will be tried as an adult, is facing charges of murder and attempted murder. He is being held in jail on a $1 million bond after his arraignment on Monday.

The family’s younger teen son was not at the home at the time of the attack, police said.

“A very sad event for sure,” Correa said.

Caitlin Clark WNBA Drama Unfolds: Teammate’s Accusation Revives Rivalry Tensions

The flames of controversy within the WNBA have been reignited, this time fueled by comments from Caitlin Clark’s teammate about a shocking incident involving the Indiana Fever’s standout player.

Last month, the league found itself embroiled in another scandal after an altercation between Clark, a central figure for the WNBA, and Alyssa Thomas from the Phoenix Mercury. During a heated matchup, Thomas delivered a punch to Clark’s throat, leaving fans and players stunned.

The incident erupted while Clark, a guard for the Fever, was making her way toward the basket. She ended up on the floor amidst a fervent struggle with several Mercury defenders vying to take control of the ball.

As Clark lay on the ground, Thomas seized the moment, launching herself forward and striking Clark in the neck with a closed fist – a moment captured and widely debated in the sports community.

In response, Aliyah Boston, a star player for the Fever, has openly criticized Thomas’s actions. Speaking on her podcast with WNBA legend Candace Parker, Boston questioned the aggression displayed during the game, further feeding the ongoing dialogue around the incident.

‘That should’ve never been done,’ the former No 1 overall pick said on the Post Moves Show. ‘You don’t put your hand on someone’s throat and damn-near kick them on the floor. It’s a basketball game. What are we doing?’

Parker, a three-time WNBA champion, referenced her own experience as a targeted superstar in the league as she echoed Boston’s outrage.

‘I’ve been on the side of some players’ rough play,’ she said. ‘So, if there’s anybody that can probably speak about this and being roughed up and disrespected, it’s me. But in terms of taking it farther than that, it’s like, what are we doing?’

The reaction to Thomas’ punch on Clark has sparked a firestorm directed at the player, officials and the league for what some believe is a routine failure to protect the Indiana Fever star.

In the days that followed, Thomas said she was racially abused online and received threats toward herself and her family – including her children.

Clark spoke for five minutes to media in Indianapolis last Friday – which were her first public comments since the incident took place on June 24.

‘As I’ve stood up here and said before, like the harassment, the hate, none of that is okay. That goes for the opposing team we play, that goes for my teammates, that goes for my coaches, there should never be a question of character,’ Clark told reporters.

‘I’ve always stood up here and said that, and that’s truly what I believe. That’s how I was raised. So none of that is okay and I don’t want anybody to ever experience that.’

Clark also believes that the media’s focus on the incident nine days after it happened is not helping the situation and isn’t helping the league.

‘It’s really interesting to me because, I turned the TV on on Sunday, and that game was on Wednesday, and that’s all people are still talking about,’ Clark recalled. ‘And I feel like that’s just a real disservice to our league.

‘And I get it, you talk about it, you talk about whether it’s flagrant, you talk about whatever it is.

‘But to continue to beat down, beat down, and then for the narrative to be taken other places, that’s just really not acceptable. I think it’s just— it’s hard to see, you know.’

Clark said that the constant conversation about it made her feel ‘bad for the players that were playing the games those days. And also, I feel bad for my teammates.

‘They played on Friday and they dominated and they played really well and nobody wanted to talk about that. They were just worried about everything else.’

She added, ‘I think it’s all of our jobs to help refocus the narratives a lot of the times and we can do better at that. And I think it’ll help our game grow a lot more.’
