Discover Why ‘Salish & Jordan Matter’ is Dominating Netflix: Insights into the Beloved Father-Daughter YouTube Duo Series

The Netflix series, Salish & Jordan Matter, has climbed to the Number 6 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 list. This father-daughter team transitioned their popular YouTube series to the streaming giant in April 2026, with the newest episodes of Season 2 launching on June 27, 2026.

Before skyrocketing to fame with his daughter, Jordan Matter gained recognition through his photography channel launched in 2006. In the dance community, being captured by Jordan’s lens was a mark of success. His daughter, Salish Matter, began appearing in his videos in 2018 and later started her own channel in 2023 when she was just 13 years old.

The Netflix show captures the thrilling adventures of the duo as they tackle audacious challenges, like spending the night in an empty amusement park. The content mirrors the excitement that fans have come to adore from their YouTube escapades.

For those newly introduced to this dynamic father-and-daughter team, you’re not alone; here’s a primer on Netflix’s latest standout series that’s generating quite the buzz.

What is Salish & Jordan Matter on Netflix?

Six years of YouTube content led the Matter family to a creative pact with Netflix. Salish & Jordan Matter showcases many of their iconic YouTube challenges, featuring esteemed guests like Mr. Beast, Simone Biles, and Khloe Kardashian. The duo is set to create more exclusive content for Netflix, venturing into both scripted and unscripted storytelling. Currently, the series leans heavily on existing content, but fans eagerly await new projects as the Matter family’s partnership with Netflix evolves.

What is Salish’s and Jordan Matter’s YouTube channel?

The father and daughter content creators do not have a specific duo channel. Instead, their content has taken over Jordan Matter’s personal channel that used to be centered around photography. The photography videos are still there, with content featuring multiple Dance Moms alum, but throughout the years his kids Salish and Hudson were integrated into the content, before Salish official took over.

Salish does have her own channel, but you can find majority of their YouTube content here:

How old is Salish Matter?

Salish Matter is currently 16 years old. She first started appearing on her father’s channel when she was 8 years old, and has since become her own content creator. She is a competitive gymnast, an entrepreneur, and at 15 she was the 2025 Female Creator of the Year winner at the Kids’ Choice Awards.

Is Salish Matter dating Nidal Wonder?

Of course, every 16 year old YouTuber gets asked the same thing, and Salish is no exception. In a 2025 episode of the YouTube series Pucker Up with Joey Live, Salish revealed that she is single, but was previously in a relationship with fellow YouTuber and content creator Kaido Roberts. Recently, Salish had been rumored to be dating content creator Nidal Wonder, but he confirmed that the two are just friends.

ICE Requests Michigan Hold Alleged Haitian Attacker in Coworker Stabbing Case

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated on Wednesday that an undocumented immigrant, accused of murdering his coworker within a Michigan food processing facility, should not be granted release back into the public.

Valmir Djempsley, aged 20 and hailing from Haiti, faces charges related to the June 30 incident where he allegedly killed 21-year-old Brandon Eduardo Velasquez Chavez at the Clemens Food Group plant located in Coldwater.

The incident reportedly unfolded during a conflict between the two men, leading to Djempsley allegedly pursuing Chavez with a knife and stabbing him in the back. Djempsley claimed Chavez had headbutted him during their argument.

Chavez tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene despite efforts from first responders to save his life. According to local reports, prosecutors highlighted that Djempsley was actively on a work visa during the time of the incident.

Djempsley entered the United States illegally through Texas in 2024, DHS said, and was subsequently released into the country by the Biden administration. He was charged with murder and has pleaded not guilty. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has filed a detainer request for Djempsley with local authorities.

“This illegal alien barbarically stabbed his coworker to death,” said acting DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “This murderer was released into American communities by the Biden administration. If it weren’t for the reckless open border policies of the Biden administration, this criminal never would have been in our country in the first place, and his victim would still be alive.

“We have lodged a detainer asking Michigan to not release this dangerous criminal from jail without notifying ICE.”

At the time of the killing, the men were arguing over Chavez using one of Djempsley’s knives, according to an affidavit obtained by the Sturgis Journal.

Djempsley was denied bond and is being held in the Branch County jail.

“The defendant at the time of this crime was a guest in our country. He should have been on his best behavior, but instead, he spilled the lifeblood of another human being,” a Branch County prosecutor said in court.

“This is the most serious violation known to humankind.”

Iran Announces Plans to Shut Down Strait of Hormuz Amid US Tensions: Report

0

Iran has announced plans to shut the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation to the recent US strikes on its territory. Tehran has pledged to launch two retaliatory attacks for every American target hit, as reported in a recent analysis.

Following President Trump’s declaration on Wednesday signaling the end of the cease-fire with Iran, Tehran cautioned against his renewed threats to attack. This warning came after a series of reciprocal strikes took place on Tuesday.

According to a source close to Tehran, as reported by Iran’s Press TV, “Trump will achieve nothing with his latest threats, and risks losing both the Strait of Hormuz and any leverage in negotiations for a final agreement.”

In an initial counteraction to America’s offensive against Iran’s coastal military facilities near the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian military claims to have targeted 85 military locations throughout the Middle East overnight.

The American airstrikes followed Iran’s attacks on three vessels attempting to navigate through the Strait of Hormuz without authorization. Tehran has insisted on its complete control over this crucial oil transit passage as outlined in the memorandum of understanding.

With the aggression renewed, traffic along the Strait of Hormuz has fallen to a near halt, with only a handful of ships daring to cross on Wednesday.

The key trade route, which saw more than 130 ships cross daily before the war, had seen 108 ships cross the strait during the holiday weekend, according to maritime tracker Kpler.

As tensions remain high, Iranian officials dared the US to carry out more attacks against the Islamic Republic and try to take the Kharg Island oil hub, warning that such moves would result in American casualties.

“Come—we are waiting for you—and we promise that not a single American soldier will return alive,” Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee wrote on X.

Ali Akbar Velayati, Iran’s former foreign affairs minister, warned that Tehran “has its finger on the trigger” and will not “remain silent” under any provocation or humiliation.

Despite the repeated threats, Trump maintained that all-out war would not reignite because the US will always be able to hit Iran harder.

“I don’t think it’s going to start again. I think it’s going to go very quickly,” he told reporters in Ankara.

“They hit a couple of ships, and so we hit them much harder. When they hit, we hit 10 times harder, you know. We hit much harder than they do,” he added.

“I think anything that happens is going to be over very quickly, and we’ll only … make it safer, including for oil; oil is going to be very free, very easy, and easy, and it’s going to happen very fast,” he said.

The renewed fighting leads the Iran conflict into its fifth month after the president initially claimed it would only last a few weeks.

Explosive Lawsuit: Sherrone Moore’s Past Affair with Paige Shiver Unveiled

0

Sherrone Moore’s former executive assistant, who also had a personal relationship with him, has initiated legal action against the University of Michigan. This comes four months after she discreetly stepped down from her role within the athletics department.

On Wednesday, Paige Shiver and her legal team submitted a lawsuit in a Washtenaw County court, as reported by the Daily Mail. The suit contends that the university is deliberately withholding documents related to a $12 million investigation into the incident.

Shiver’s lawsuit, which demands access to specific records and seeks punitive damages, alleges that the institution breached the Freedom of Information Act. This follows the termination of the football coach for engaging in an improper relationship with her.

“Filing this initial FOIA lawsuit was crucial for our client to ensure that the truth and facts are revealed,” stated her attorney, Andrew M. Stroth, in an interview with the Daily Mail.

University spokesperson Paul Corliss has refrained from commenting on the matter.

Moore was fired in December after leading the Wolverines for two seasons following Jim Harbaugh’s move to the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers.

He was accused of confronting Shiver, with whom he had been having an affair, and blaming her for his firing. Authorities said she had previously ended the affair and spoken to school officials about it.

The coach was accused of barging his way through Shiver’s door, grabbing butter knives and scissors before threatening to kill himself. The 40-year-old father of three was arrested and charged with home invasion and stalking as well as breaking and entering.

Moore pleaded no contest to trespassing and malicious use of a telecom device and was placed on probation in April for 18 months.

Shiver did not attend the hearing and released a statement saying the sentence ‘does not reflect the harm done to me.’

The plea deal came after attorney Ellen Michaels planned to aggressively challenge how police gathered and shared information to get an arrest warrant. She argued that police didn’t disclose that Moore and Shiver had a working relationship that involved calls and text messages.

Attorney Julie Murphy sent the university a series of FOIA requests, including the investigative file related to Moore’s firing, from February to June and each was denied by the school.

‘This public university paid Jenner & Block $12 million to investigate the Sherrone Moore scandal and the abuse, Title IX and Title VII violations within the athletic department and Schembechler Hall, yet now refuses to release the investigation’s findings,’ Stroth said.

Shiver and her legal team claim school officials are ‘arbitrarily and capriciously’ breaking the law by not providing the records related to Jenner & Block’s investigation.

‘The lawsuit filed today demands transparency and accountability from the University of Michigan, President Grasso and the Board of Regents,’ Stroth added in his statement on Shiver’s behalf.

In the suit, Shiver claims that during her employment at the school, she was ‘discriminated against and subjected to a hostile work environment on the basis of her sex, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Michigan law including Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act.’

The legal action looks set to spark the next lengthy and expensive controversy for the embattled school, which is still reeling from Moore’s very public scandal.

It also comes just four months after Shiver quietly left her position in the athletics department in the wake of the scandal.

Back in March, a department spokesperson told the Daily Mail that Shiver’s contract expired and she no longer works for Wolverines athletics. The spokesperson did not offer any more details on her departure from the program.

Shiver, 32, had been a visible part of the Wolverines football program as Moore’s executive assistant. She’s also the daughter of Bears scout Jeff Shiver, who has been a constant presence with the historic NFL team since 1987.

After dismissing Moore, Michigan has since hired former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham to take over the storied football program.

Leesburg McDonald’s Employee Charged with Attempted Murder Following Shooting Incident with Customer

LEESBURG, Fla. – A late-night altercation at a McDonald’s in Leesburg culminated in gunfire, leaving a customer scrambling for safety and a young employee facing serious charges. Police have arrested a 17-year-old worker on allegations of attempted murder following this unsettling chain of events.

The altercation erupted on the evening of June 8 at the McDonald’s located on North 14th Street, where the juvenile involved, Richard Ammons, was on duty. Tensions flared between Ammons and a patron during a food order, escalating into a confrontation that soon spiraled out of control.

According to police, surveillance footage captured a man clad in black passing Ammons a seemingly loaded handgun, which he then hid in his waistband. The ensuing argument soon spilled into the restaurant’s parking lot, taking a perilous turn.

A physical struggle broke out as Ammons allegedly brandished the firearm at the customer, prompting the latter to seize the weapon. In the heat of the skirmish, Ammons reportedly struck the customer on the head with the gun, inflicting a cut. While the victim attempted to flee for safety, Ammons fired a shot, narrowly missing his target, according to investigators.

When officers arrived at the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m., Ammons was seen leaving on a bicycle. Despite commands to halt, he initially evaded capture but was eventually apprehended nearby. Body camera footage released by the police reveals Ammons being detained in his McDonald’s uniform, moments before being taken into custody.

Police said officers recovered what they described as a Glock-style handgun with a suspected 3D-printed frame and an extended magazine from Ammons’ waistband. Investigators also said they found nearly 19 grams of marijuana in his backpack.

According to police, Ammons told investigators he carried the gun for protection, claiming the customer had robbed him in the past.

Ammons is facing multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a minor, police said.

News 6 went to the restaurant and employees said Ammons has been fired. Management declined to comment.

News 6 has contacted the owner and McDonald’s corporate office with questions about the teen’s employment, safety concerns for customers and workers and the company’s policy on guns on the property. A response has not yet been received.

Dwayne Johnson Reflects on Unforgettable ‘Moana’ Live-Action Premiere at Hollywood Bowl

0

The world premiere of the new live-action film “Moana” took center stage at the renowned Hollywood Bowl, a cherished landmark in Southern California, as the cast and crew gathered to celebrate the occasion.

Leading the film is Catherine Laga’aia, who takes on the role of Moana in this adaptation of the story that became a beloved animated film a decade ago. Alongside her is star Dwayne Johnson. The dynamic duo has been on a whirlwind promotional tour around the globe, culminating in this highly anticipated premiere at the iconic venue.

As the event unfolded, Johnson took a moment to share his thoughts on the special night.

“I won’t forget this night, George, and I say that sincerely,” Johnson remarked. “I urged everyone to consider what’s possible beyond what’s been achieved before. Here we are at the Hollywood Bowl, with 5,000 attendees and the LA Philharmonic orchestrating the film’s score live—it’s truly incredible, man.”

The premiere event was further enhanced by musical performances that set the stage for the evening’s screening.

Laga’aia shared her thoughts on this, her first premiere.

“I feel bad because I don’t understand the scale of these things because I’m so new to the industry,” she said with a smile. “This is my first premiere, I don’t know any different. I’m just kind of assuming this is what everything looks like. I’ll have to talk to Dwayne and ask, ‘Is this normal?”

Those involved with the film said they worked to represent cultural authenticity throughout the production.

Rena Owen, who plays Gramma Tala, credited the original animated film for setting a high standard.

“I have to acknowledge the animated film because it set high bars for all of us,” she said. “It gave us a mountain top to just jump from.”

Auli’i Cravalho, an executive producer on the film and the original voice of Moana, praised Laga’aia’s role in carrying the story forward.

“It’s not very often a young Pacific Island woman is able to take the helm of a film,” Cravalho said. “I am Moana and I’m still Moana and it takes nothing away from me for the passing of the baton to Catherine.”

“Moana” is rated PG and will be in theaters everywhere on Friday, July 10.

West Virginia Police Department Dismisses Entire Force Amid Evidence Room Controversy

0

A small town in West Virginia has become embroiled in a heated debate after its entire police force was dismissed without warning. This dramatic move, coming shortly after the police chief’s resignation, has led to public outrage, accusations of government overreach, and increasingly loud calls for greater transparency.

“Effective immediately, the Mayor and City Council have dismissed all members of the Barrackville Police Department,” read an announcement shared by the department on their official Facebook page on Tuesday.

The message continued, expressing profound gratitude for the unwavering support, trust, and encouragement received from the Barrackville community throughout their tenure. Serving and safeguarding the town was described as both an honor and a privilege.

The news left the local residents in disbelief and signaled the sudden dissolution of the modest police department. This incident unfolded just months after officials had celebrated a new chief’s appointment with the aim of revitalizing the force.

In December 2025, the department announced Zachary Freeburn’s appointment as its new full-time chief of police, highlighting his graduation from the West Virginia State Police Academy, his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and his advanced Drug Recognition Expert certification.

“We look forward to continuing to rebuild and strengthen our department to better serve our community, and we are excited to once again have a full-time officer leading our agency,” the department wrote at the time.

Less than seven months later, that effort had unraveled.

Last week, the department announced that Freeburn had resigned “effective immediately.” The agency said Sgt. Hunt would serve as officer in charge while assuring residents that police operations would continue.

“Until further notice, Sergeant Hunt will serve as the officer in charge of the Barrackville Police Department to ensure the continued operation of the department,” the department said, adding that questions about the leadership transition could be addressed at the next town council meeting.

Instead, the department itself was relieved of duty days later.

A letter Freeburn wrote before the department was dismissed offers his account of why he stepped down.

The letter, which was shared with WBOY and intended to be read at the July 7 town council meeting before it was canceled, alleges that shortly after the newly elected town council took office, he was called into a closed-door meeting where he was told a council member would directly supervise the police department and implement operational changes.

Freeburn wrote that he objected because he believed those directives violated West Virginia law governing municipal police departments. He said that when he attempted to discuss the proposed changes, he was told, “If I give you a directive you follow it… I am in charge and what I say goes.”

He described the situation as creating what he believed would become a hostile work environment and said those concerns ultimately led him to resign.

In the letter, Freeburn also wrote that one of the biggest complaints he heard from residents was a lack of transparency at town hall. He said he chose to resign so the issues could be brought into the open, expressing hope that residents would finally receive “the transparency that they have been asking for.”

The letter notes it was written before the announcement that the entire police department had been relieved of duty.

Former Barrackville Police Sgt. Hunt, who has been publicly identified only by his last name, told WBOY that he discovered the police evidence room had allegedly been entered when he arrived at the department Tuesday morning.

Hunt alleged town officials had previously discussed conducting an inventory of the department without officers present. He also claimed that during a meeting with Mayor Tom Straight and members of the town council, Councilmember Alex Neville acknowledged taking a set of police keys.

According to Hunt, after he accused town officials of entering the evidence room, he and another officer, who together made up the department’s entire sworn force, were immediately relieved of duty. Hunt also said he informed town officials that he intended to seek whistleblower protections.

News Media has not independently verified Hunt’s allegations.

The controversy appears to have been brewing even before the department was dismissed.

Following Freeburn’s resignation, a Barrackville resident launched an online petition urging the town council to reinstate him, arguing that he had been “forced to resign due to what many residents believe was unnecessary overreach by the newly elected Town Council.”

The petition calls on town leaders to reconsider the circumstances surrounding the resignation, restore public confidence through transparency and reinstate Freeburn as police chief.

“Our Police Chief quickly earned the trust, respect, and appreciation of our community through his professionalism, leadership, integrity, and commitment to keeping Barrackville safe,” the petition states. “Although his time serving our town was brief, his impact was undeniable.”

Organizers also urged residents to attend the July 7 town council meeting to voice their concerns. The meeting was later canceled.

In a Facebook post, the Barrackville Town Council announced the meeting had been canceled because of “a lack of sufficient information regarding items listed under unfinished business.”

The cancellation has only fueled questions from residents, many of whom flooded social media demanding answers.

“Time to do some deep background on the city council. The truth is not being told,” one commenter wrote beneath the police department’s announcement.

Another resident joked, “Who is gonna look over the 5 residents in Barrackville now?”

Barrackville, a town of about 1,200 people in north-central West Virginia, is located about 25 miles southwest of Morgantown.

Marion County Sheriff Roger Cunningham previously told WBOY that the sheriff’s office will continue responding to calls in Barrackville, as it routinely does throughout Marion County, ensuring residents continue receiving law enforcement services despite the town no longer having an active police department.

Town officials have not publicly explained why the entire department was relieved of duty or responded to the allegations raised by former officers.

News Media has reached out to the Barrackville Police Department, Straight, members of the Barrackville Town Council and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for comment. News Media has also contacted the West Virginia Municipal League seeking clarification on the authority of municipal officials over police department operations under state law.

Top 5 Essential Exercises for Men Over 50 to Maintain Youthful Vitality

Are you over 50 and aiming to remain strong and active? Here are five exercises, endorsed by trainers, designed to help you achieve that goal.

>

Reaching 50 doesn’t have to signal a slowdown, but it does introduce new challenges for the body. As we age, muscle mass gradually diminishes, joints become stiffer, and recovery from extended inactivity demands more time. From my experience as a trainer, the men who maintain their strength into their 60s and 70s aren’t necessarily those who lift the heaviest weights. Instead, their secret lies in committing to simple, consistent movements that ensure their bodies remain in top condition every day.

There’s a common misconception that staying youthful demands grueling workouts or costly fitness regimens. However, the key difference lies in preserving the core abilities that aging often compromises first: strength, balance, mobility, posture, and cardiovascular stamina. By integrating a few carefully selected exercises into your daily routine, you can support these essential qualities. These exercises not only make everyday activities like yard work and golf easier but also enhance your ability to keep pace with grandchildren and conquer stairs. The aim isn’t to regain the performance of a 25-year-old but to continue moving with the vitality of someone decades younger.

Having coached many men over 50 for years, I’ve observed that those living active, independent lives typically adhere to a routine centered on functional movements. They don’t seek to set new personal records every day. Rather, their focus is on strengthening the muscles they will rely upon in the years ahead. These five exercises have proven essential as they cultivate full-body strength while maintaining mobility, energy, and capability well beyond their 50s.

Push-Ups

If I had to choose one upper-body exercise for men over 50, push-ups would always be near the top of the list. They strengthen the chest, shoulders, triceps, core, and even the muscles responsible for stabilizing the shoulder blades. Unlike many gym machines, push-ups teach your body to move as one coordinated unit, which translates directly into everyday activities. I often remind clients that the goal isn’t performing dozens of repetitions immediately but building consistent strength with excellent technique. Over time, even a few quality sets each morning help preserve muscle mass and upper-body power.

How to Do It

  • Begin in a high plank position.
  • Place your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  • Keep your body in a straight line.
  • Lower your chest toward the floor.
  • Push back to the starting position.
  • Perform 8 to 15 repetitions.

5 Standing Exercises That Shrink Front Belly Bulge Faster Than Gym Sessions After 55

Bodyweight Squats

Strong legs keep men independent as they age, and bodyweight squats remain one of the most effective ways to build that strength. Every repetition strengthens the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and core while reinforcing the same movement used for standing up, sitting down, and lifting objects safely. I recommend squats almost daily because they improve mobility and maintain lower-body muscle without requiring equipment. Clients who stay consistent often notice easier stair climbing, stronger walking endurance, and better balance. Few exercises offer as much value in such a simple package.

How to Do It

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Brace your core.
  • Push your hips back.
  • Lower until comfortable.
  • Drive through your heels to stand.
  • Complete 10 to 15 repetitions.

Bird Dog

A strong core involves much more than visible abdominal muscles. The deep muscles surrounding your spine determine how well you lift, twist, carry, and maintain posture throughout the day. Bird dogs challenge those stabilizers while strengthening the glutes, shoulders, and back at the same time. I frequently use this exercise with men who spend long hours sitting because it restores coordination between the upper and lower body. Better core stability also helps reduce unnecessary stress on the lower back during daily activities.

How to Do It

  • Begin on your hands and knees.
  • Extend your right arm forward.
  • Extend your left leg behind you.
  • Hold briefly.
  • Return with control.
  • Alternate sides for 10 repetitions each.

If You Can Hold a Wall Sit This Long After 50, Your Lower-Body Power Is Stronger Than 90% of Peers

Farmer’s Carry

One of the biggest predictors of healthy aging involves grip strength, and few exercises improve it better than the farmer’s carry. Holding weight while walking strengthens the hands, forearms, shoulders, core, and legs simultaneously. I often tell clients that this movement prepares them for real life because it mimics carrying groceries, luggage, and countless other everyday objects. It also reinforces upright posture while challenging balance and endurance. Strong grip and strong posture often go hand in hand as the years go by.

How to Do It

  • Hold a dumbbell or kettlebell in each hand.
  • Stand tall.
  • Pull your shoulders back.
  • Walk at a controlled pace.
  • Maintain good posture.
  • Continue for 30 to 60 seconds.

Standing Single-Leg Balance

Balance often declines quietly with age until a stumble or fall makes it impossible to ignore. That’s why I encourage every man over 50 to spend at least a minute each day standing on one leg. This simple drill strengthens the ankles, hips, and core while improving coordination and reaction time. Clients are often surprised by how challenging it feels during the first few attempts, but improvement comes quickly with daily practice. Better balance supports everything from sports and hiking to safely navigating uneven sidewalks.

How to Do It

  • Stand next to a sturdy chair.
  • Shift your weight onto one leg.
  • Lift the opposite foot slightly off the floor.
  • Focus on a point straight ahead.
  • Hold for 20 to 30 seconds.
  • Repeat on the opposite leg.

From Hollywood Oddity to Literary Success: The Unlikely Journey of an Actor-Turned-Novelist

0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBrYfXIAbkc

For many in the entertainment industry, the road to Hollywood is as unique as it is winding. Kirk Fox, whose multifaceted career includes notable roles in “Parks and Recreation,” “Jury Duty,” and “Reservation Dogs,” as well as the recent release of his novel “Palmdale” in June, found his unexpected muse in an unconventional arena.

That muse was tennis.

In a candid conversation with the California Post for their “California Roots” series, Fox revealed, “Tennis was the agent for my first 10 movies.” His initial foray into the film world was not through casting calls or agents, but rather through the connections he forged on the tennis court.

One of his most memorable Hollywood stories involved teaching tennis to Lawrence Kasdan, the esteemed director. “Kasdan was preparing to shoot ‘Wyatt Earp,’ and during our lessons, he asked if I could ride a horse,” recalled Fox. He humorously recounted his confident but misleading reply, “Like the wind.” Reality soon caught up when, on the set, Kasdan realized Fox’s equestrian skills were not quite as promised. To ensure his safety during filming, Kasdan placed him on a much smaller horse, a courteous gesture that kept his tennis pro – and budding actor – from injury.

Fox, who hails from San Diego, where he played tennis at UCSD, also found a very different sort of side hustle from tennis.

“Everyone I was teaching tennis to wanted me to look into something, so you can call it whatever you want,” Fox explained. “I think at the end of the day, we’re all private investigators. I don’t know anyone that’s not investigating something.”

Years later, Fox channeled his amateur P.I. work into his debut novel, “Palmdale.”

“It’s about a private investigator who’s teamed up with his daughter that he hasn’t seen in a long time,” Fox said. “And they’re investigating a body that was found in Palmdale, and we traced it back to Bel Air. It’s very noir. It’s a lot of Humphrey Bogart, Mickey Spillane. It’s gritty, it’s dusty.”

Fox wrote some of what ended up in “Palmdale” decades ago, and is now writing a sequel set in San Diego.

“Every day I write, I just never finished anything,” Fox said. “So I’m still scratching that itch. And I write all my stand up.”

That’s right. Along with acting (Fox will next appear in Sterlin Harjo’s “Reservation Dogs” follow-up “The Lowdown” on FX), he took up stand-up comedy and has now “gone up more than 6,000 times.”

“My first show was November 10, 2002 at the Comedy Store,” Fox recalled. “I was deep in my 30s and I needed something to do at night.”

That gig bombed. “I will say it was the last time I talked about religion,” Fox said.
