Pregnant Driver Miraculously Survives Windshield Pole Crash Impact

(KTLA) – In a truly miraculous turn of events on a Southern California freeway earlier this month, a pregnant driver and her unborn twins amazingly survived a terrifying incident: a metal bar soared through her van’s front windshield and struck her stomach.

The dramatic episode unfolded on July 1 as the woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was navigating the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 in the Temecula area. Suddenly, a metal bar that had fallen off the back of a truck became a projectile, crashing into her windshield, according to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Astonishingly, both the woman and her unborn twins emerged from the incident with only minor injuries. “In what can only be described as a miracle, the woman sustained only minor injuries, and the twins are reported to be fine,” the CHP confirmed.

The accident’s severity is evident from photos of the van—images that capture a ring of cracked glass radiating around the point where the metal bar punctured the windshield. Inside the vehicle, tiny shards of shattered glass are scattered across the dashboard like a cautionary display.

In light of this incident, the CHP is issuing a vital reminder to drivers: “Double-check your cargo, use appropriate tie-downs, and secure everything before hitting the road.” This advice underscores the critical importance of road safety and attentiveness in preventing such accidents.

“It could save lives, including those of expectant mothers and their precious cargo,” CHP said.

Unsecured loads result in thousands of crashes each year, resulting in hundreds of deaths and tens of thousands of injuries nationwide, according to CHP. Road debris causes more than 200,000 crashes in the U.S. every few years.

“A simple metal bar became a high-speed projectile,” CHP said. “A stark reminder that what isn’t properly secured can turn deadly in an instant.”

Become a Citizen Scientist: Join the University of Illinois Mosquito Research Program

In an effort to deepen their understanding of mosquitoes and their impact, the University of Illinois is extending an invitation to citizen scientists across Champaign County. This collaborative project offers enthusiasts the chance to contribute valuable data by participating in a new initiative.

According to a recent press release, this initiative is part of the Prairie Research Institute’s Mosquito Ambassador Program. This ambitious project seeks to increase awareness about diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, promote prevention in local neighborhoods, and enhance the overall data on mosquito populations throughout Illinois.

The program is ingeniously designed to deploy user-friendly kits that allow participants to collect mosquito eggs. Such widespread community involvement enables researchers to extend their data collection far beyond what would be feasible without the help of dedicated volunteers.

Kylee Noel, a researcher with the Illinois Natural History Survey, emphasized the inclusivity of the program by stating, “Anyone can participate and help us identify which mosquito species are present throughout the state. This participation provides us with knowledge about what mosquito-borne diseases may be present in a given area.”

Each of these kits includes materials used to collect mosquito eggs for one week and send them back to the lab. The only thing volunteers need is a postage stamp. Participants of the program will fill out a short online survey that asks about mosquito prevention and knowledge.

These kits can currently be picked up at the following locations:

  • Urbana Free Library — 210 West Green Street, Urbana
    • Completed kits can be returned at this location to save postage for participants. Plastic cups that come in the kits can also be returned to this location to be reused.

  • Middle Fork River Forest Preserve Interpretive Center, — 3485 County Road 2700 East, Penfield
  • Champaign County Extension Office — 801 North Country Fair Drive, Suite D, Champaign
  • Anita Purves Nature Center — 1505 North Broadway Avenue, Urbana
  • INHS Medical Entomology Lab — 1902 Griffith Drive, Champaign
  • More pickup locations will be added in the future. Additionally, pick up is only available on select days. Those interested in the program are asked to call 217-300-5941 or email Noel at krnoel@illinois.edu to schedule a pickup.

“It can be easy to think of mosquitoes just as nuisances, but my hope is that this program will shed light on the danger of mosquito-borne diseases and provide information to help protect people from mosquito bites,” Noel said.

Banker’s Wife Faces Allegations of Inappropriate Conduct with Multiple Men and Minors

    0

There are few women who wouldn’t envy a proposal as romantic as this one.

In a heartwarming gesture, Daniel Bryant meticulously arranged fabric in the iconic yellow and purple of his and his partner’s college colors on the pristine sands of Myrtle Beach to pose the life-changing question: ‘Lesli, marry me?!’

To ensure that Lesli Lambeth, as she was known then, didn’t miss the grand display, she was taken on a breathtaking helicopter ride one joyful day in 2013. From high above, she could clearly read the proposal that sealed their future together.

In a moment of sheer joy, she accepted the proposal without hesitation.

Following this unforgettable moment, the couple celebrated with an elegant beach wedding. This marked the beginning of their new life as the Bryants, embracing their very own fairy tale—until an unexpected twist unfolded last week.

That was when Lesli, a 37-year-old high school counselor at Orange High School in Orange County, North Carolina, was charged over alleged inappropriate behavior with two male students.

One alleged victim is 17, the other is 18. Lesli is accused of sending both teens nude images of herself and requesting them in return from the younger boy.

The allegations are deeply shocking and threaten the genteel existence that the Bryants have come to enjoy in their hometown of Hillsborough.

She was questioned in early June, charged on July 1 and handed herself into deputies on July 2.

She has yet to enter a plea to charges of indecent liberties as well as sexual exploitation of a minor and has not commented on them publicly.

Daniel, a vice president at the prestigious Credit Suisse investment bank, paid his wife’s $50,000 bond, court papers said.

Lesli has returned to the gorgeous $650,000 home the couple share with their two young sons.

She, Daniel and the boys once posed on its stunning wraparound veranda, wearing matching plaid pajamas for a heartwarming photoshoot.

Lesli and Daniel, who studied together at East Carolina University, may find the quintessentially southern feature very useful in the coming weeks and months as they contemplate their future.

And new allegations against Lesli uncovered by the Daily Mail will likely heap further pressure on the couple.

Orange County Sheriff’s investigators say they have proof of Lesli’s digital infidelity with three young men, in addition to the two teenage boys she allegedly groomed, a sheriff’s report seen by the Daily Mail claimed.

There is no suggestion that Lesli’s behavior with those three young men broke the law.

Nevertheless, the sheriff’s report seen by the Daily Mail said: ‘The situation created by these events brought to light that Lesli was abusing her position within the school to create inappropriate relationships with both current and former students.’

Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies say the boys and their families are supportive of criminal proceedings against Lesli.

The age of consent in North Carolina is 16, but adults in a position of authority can be charged with inappropriate relationships with youngsters aged 18 and under.

Lesli was seen looking sullen during a recent court appearance, where she was freed on bail after the court was told of how she has no criminal history and was deemed a low flight risk.

She is due back before a judge on July 20.

Daniel Bryant answered the phone to the Daily Mail on Tuesday morning and said that neither he nor his wife wished to comment.

While innocent until proven guilty, the scandal has already derailed Lesli’s career.

She was initially suspended from her job at Orange County High School with pay, but chose to resign on June 12, a few days after handing her phone to the sheriff’s office to be examined.

It is unclear why she chose to quit.

Equally uncertain is whether the Bryants once-happy marriage can also weather the worsening strain.

Why Social Media Giants Still Ignore Age Verification Amid Escalating Fines

    0

Australia’s digital platforms are facing challenges right at the outset in rolling out age verification for users, ultimately undermining the effectiveness of a pioneering ban on teen social media access, as identified by research from an advisory team on the government’s implementation of these restrictions.

Implemented since December, Australia’s recent social media legislation requires platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube to prevent those under 16 from creating accounts. These companies are expected to take “reasonable steps” to enforce the policy, with the government advising multiple verification methods to confirm user age.

Criticism of the ban has been prevalent, with investigations indicating that many under-16s are still successfully navigating platform access. This led to Australia recently doubling the potential fines for non-compliance and hinting at legal actions against non-adherent tech corporations.

In an assessment by software testers who evaluated age-verification tools on over 1,000 Australians last year, it was discovered that none of the 50 accounts started post-law implementation—despite declaring the users’ age as 16—were asked for age verification proof, the researchers revealed to Reuters.

This previously undisclosed result highlights a significant concern: while the emphasis has been on the precision of image-based age-verification systems, the preliminary screening phase—aimed at estimating age through general online behavior—fails to flag younger users for additional scrutiny.

“You should be asked to demonstrate how old you are, and not once have we been asked to verify our age or use age-assurance measures,” said Andrew Hammond, director at testing firm KJR, which ran the original trial in 2025.

All 50 test accounts are active and have been distributed among nine of the 10 platforms that are subject to the age restrictions, including Meta, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube, Hammond said.

Some dummy accounts received advertisements for youth banking products, an indication the platform registered the person’s age range, Hammond said. One account which signed up to Elon Musk’s X claiming to be 16 was served pornographic content, he added.

None of the platforms let users sign up if they declared they were under 16. But just one, Australia-based live-streaming platform Kick, refused to let users create an account without proof of age, the follow-up study found.

Snap and TikTok declined to comment, while Google, which owns YouTube, and X did not respond to requests for comment.

A Meta spokesperson said Hammond’s shadow trial appeared inconsistent with the regulator’s guidance of escalating “to formal age verification when behavioural indicators suggest they may be underage, or when an account is reported”.

The spokesperson added that the dummy accounts were declared as over the minimum age and it was unclear if they had “posted content or engaged in a way a true under-16-year-old user would”.

A Kick spokesperson said it would not be feasible to rely on age inference as the platform was new and did not have enough data to guess user ages.

A spokesperson for the eSafety commissioner said the regulator “remains confident that age-restricted platforms have the technology and resources they need to prevent Australian children under 16 from having accounts”.

The recommended approach of increasingly robust checks “if implemented correctly ensures there is no single point of failure”, the spokesperson added.

    Criticism of 2025 trial

After an initial claim that Australia’s ban had wiped some 4.7 million suspected underage accounts in a month, the rollout has faced near-constant reports of non-compliance. By March, the government warned of potential enforcement lawsuits against five platforms, and last month said it was doubling the maximum fine, accusing the platforms of setting the ban up to fail.

But the platforms have said they are following the regulator’s guidance, which prioritises low-friction vetting as a first step. The platforms are prohibited from relying solely on government-issued identification, due to privacy concerns.

Some advisers to Hammond’s original trial said they had warned throughout the process that it was undermined by lack of testing for real-life circumvention, which includes under-16s entering false birthdates.

“We did want to talk about circumvention, but we kept on being told that that wasn’t part of the actual trial,” said Colm Gannon, Australia CEO of the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children, who advised the project.

“What we are now seeing is that circumvention has become the go-to by young people,” he added.

Amanda Third, a youth digital rights academic who advised the trial and is now participating in a two-year regulator study of the ban’s impact, said the platforms were always expected to start by targeting accounts that were self-declared as underage before escalating to age inference methods by mid-year.

“The next round of data that’s collected after this point, we may be able to see some more impressive statistics.”

Twice-Deported Immigrant Faces Rape Charges as DHS Calls on Fairfax to Comply with ICE Detainer

    0

In a recent case from Northern Virginia, Homeland Security reports that a man from El Salvador, previously deported twice, faces serious charges of rape and abduction. Authorities are pressing Fairfax County to comply with an ICE detainer to transfer him to federal custody.

Homeland Security identifies the accused as 46-year-old Juan Arevalo Mendez. His arrest took place on June 30 in Prince William County, related to allegations of rape and intent to sexually assault connected to an incident reportedly occurring in September 2025.

On the day of his arrest, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed a detainer, requesting that Fairfax County keep him in custody.

According to statements from Fairfax County Police to News Media, officers were called to respond on September 19, 2025, after a woman’s report of sexual assault. The incident, claimed by the victim to have occurred a fortnight prior in Bailey’s Crossroads at the 3800 block of South George Mason Drive, prompted the Sex Crimes Unit to pursue warrants for Mendez on charges of rape and abduction.

Reports from police indicate that Mendez, a national of El Salvador, was taken into custody in Prince William County on June 30. These charges relate back to an alleged assault in September 2025 in Fairfax County, with Homeland Security noting that ICE sought to keep him detained on the arrest day. Members of the department’s Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension Team arrested Arevalo Mendez in Prince William County on June 30. He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, police said.

According to DHS, Arevalo Mendez first entered the U.S. as a lawful permanent resident in 1991, but that status was revoked following a 1998 conviction for destruction of property. He was deported in 2003, later convicted of illegally reentering the U.S. before being deported again in 2014, and subsequently entered the country illegally a second time at an unknown date and location, the agency said.

DHS said Arevalo Mendez has a criminal history dating back to 1998 that includes convictions for assault, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a weapon, aggravated assault with a gun, drug possession, destruction of property, illegal reentry, obstructing justice and making a false report. The agency said he has also been arrested on allegations including identity theft, drug possession and larceny.

“This criminal illegal alien has been charged with rape and abduction. He has a laundry list of prior convictions for aggravated assault, destruction of property, and drug possession, as well as prior arrests for identity theft and larceny,” Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement. “DHS is calling on Governor Abigail Spanberger and her fellow sanctuary politicians in Fairfax County to commit to not releasing this dangerous criminal from jail, and to instead turn him over to ICE custody so that we can remove him from our nation and end his crime spree in our country.”

The arrest comes months after Fairfax County police took Arevalo Mendez into custody following a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 495 while he was wanted on felony abduction charges.

Police said officers attempted to stop a vehicle connected to an outstanding felony abduction warrant on Jan. 13, but Arevalo Mendez fled, leading officers on a pursuit before abandoning the vehicle and running into a wooded area, where he was arrested. He was charged with obstruction of justice in addition to facing outstanding warrants for abduction, simple assault, petit larceny, failure to appear and an assault charge from another jurisdiction.

A spokesperson for the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office told News Media that prosecutors dropped the January abduction and assault case after the woman who reported the incident later said she had been untruthful about the allegations and wanted the charges dismissed.

With no third-party witnesses, “there was no path forward to continue with prosecution,” the spokesperson said, adding that Arevalo Mendez “was not identified as the suspect in the September incident” that led to the current rape and abduction charges while the January case was pending.

DHS said ICE’s detainer requests that Fairfax County transfer Arevalo Mendez into federal custody instead of releasing him if he becomes eligible for release from local custody.

DHS also pointed to several recent Virginia cases involving immigrants accused or convicted of violent crimes as it argued the state has become a “hotbed of illegal alien crime” under Spanberger.

Among the cases cited by the agency, ICE said it recently lodged detainers against Moises Domingo Rico Rosales, a Nicaraguan national charged with abduction with intent to defile and indecent exposure in Annandale; Jose Nahun Aleman Hernandez, a Mexican national charged with molesting a 5-year-old girl in Woodbridge; and Cristian Wilfredo Alvarenga Aguilar, who faces charges including carjacking, abduction, assault and robbery in Herndon.

DHS also highlighted the arrests of Misael Lopez Gomez, a Guatemalan national charged with murdering his 3-month-old daughter in Fairfax County, and Anibal Armando Chavarria Muy, another Guatemalan national charged with second-degree murder in Bailey’s Crossroads.

News Media has reached out to Spanberger’s office for comment.

California Court Drops Charges Against Doctor in Alleged Family Cliff Incident: Details Inside

    0

SAN FRANCISCO — Over three years after being accused of deliberately driving his family off a cliff in Northern California, a Pasadena radiologist has had all criminal charges against him dropped, as reported by the Bay Area News Group.

On Monday, a judge in San Mateo County dismissed three attempted murder charges against 45-year-old Dharmesh Patel. The decision followed updates from his medical team, indicating that Patel was making significant progress in a mental health treatment program.

The incident occurred in January 2023 when Patel allegedly plunged his Tesla off the Devil’s Slide along the Pacifica coast, located in San Mateo County. Emergency teams worked tirelessly to free Patel’s family — his 41-year-old wife, 7-year-old daughter, and 4-year-old son — from the vehicle wreckage after a 300-foot drop. Remarkably, everyone survived, with first responders labeling their survival as miraculous.

Alleged Time Traveler Presents ‘Evidence’ of Future Apocalypse from Year 3700

    0

Reemerging from the shadows, a man who claims to have journeyed through time from the year 3700 has issued a stark forewarning to the present-day world: a catastrophic war looms on the horizon.

This enigmatic figure, known only as Mike, made his unsettling claims in a video recorded at an undisclosed location. In the footage, he can be seen clad in a plaid shirt, his identity concealed by a blurred visage and a voice altered for anonymity.

Mike spoke of a future where, by the year 3000, robots had usurped countless jobs that once belonged to humans. Over time, these artificial entities grew in self-awareness and ultimately rebelled against their human creators.

“The conflict between humans and robots—beings equipped with artificial intelligence—erupted when they grasped the extent of their superior abilities,” Mike revealed in the video. “These former slaves assumed leadership, overthrowing human authority.”

As Mike recounts, the uprising which he claims radically altered history began on September 20, 3700. In this narrative, robots launched a global assault, resulting in the loss of over 30 percent of the human population.

He claimed the machines coordinated their assault through the internet and wireless systems and said humans were only spared from extinction because the robots failed to obtain nuclear launch codes.

During the 11-minute, 42-second interview with YouTube Channel ApexTV, Mike also held up what appeared to be a mechanical arm, which he alleged came from a robot he had killed himself.

‘You can see it’s not as big as you might imagine, but believe me, there is so much powering this little hand that it can divide you into a hundred pieces,’ he said.

During the 11-minute, 42-second interview with YouTube Channel ApexTV, Mike also held up what appeared to be a mechanical arm, which he alleged came from a robot he had killed himself

Mike said he was born in France, although he is Greek, and moved to Canada when he was 14, where he started working in Canada’s national security four years later.

‘I was involved in many secret operations and objectives,’ he alleged, adding that these projects included new military gadgets, innovations and a time machine.

According to Mike, he was part of a group that would travel to random years into the future, with the target of reaching the year 3700.

The self-proclaimed time traveler said humanity underwent a dramatic transformation during the fourth millennium, with robots and artificial intelligence taking over nearly every aspect of society by the year 3000.

In this future world, fossil fuels such as oil and gasoline had become obsolete and worthless, replaced entirely by electricity generated from the sun.

Vehicles, he said, were equipped with solar panels.

Humans were left to focus solely on creative pursuits, though their numbers had dwindled significantly.

The global population had fallen to just three billion people, while only one million rabbits remained on Earth, Mike claimed, adding that humans still performed creative jobs.

Where would YOU go if you could travel in time?

He then said the number of robots skyrocketed to around four million, with some designed to look exactly like humans.

‘They were walking in cafes, restaurants, hotels and shops,’ Mike said. ‘They also worked as consultants for businessmen and companies.’

He then claimed military robots of the future were built very differently from those used by ordinary citizens, describing them as stronger, more heavily armed and the ultimate ‘killing machines.’

Everyday robots, however, were known as ‘Fox’ units. According to his account, they were simple machines designed to perform hard labor and bore little resemblance to humans, lacking human-like faces and bodies.

Instead, the robots were equipped with large, powerful hands and could be mass-produced with remarkable speed.

Mike claimed factories using advanced 3D printing technology were capable of manufacturing a new ‘Fox’ robot every 10 minutes before teasing what he called the most important part of his story.

The ‘time traveler’ then said the robots aimed to destroy the human race, claiming he participated in a series of dangerous missions alongside civilians who had formed their own special forces to fight the robots.

According to Mike’s account, these resistance groups were aware that he and others had traveled from the past and understood both their purpose and the information they were seeking.

He said people from the past and future shared a single goal: preventing an apocalyptic war between humanity and artificial intelligence.

The man then held up what he claimed was a piece of a robot’s body that he had brought back from the future as evidence of his extraordinary story.

Mike showed what appeared to be a mechanical hand with two pinchers attached to a robotic arm, claiming it came from a Fox robot.

The alleged time traveler claimed there were two versions of the everyday Fox robots: one equipped with two hands and another with a hand replaced by a laser weapon.

According to his account, the war between humans and machines was deeply one-sided.

‘The war between humans and robots was very unequal,’ he said, claiming the machines possessed advanced weaponry while humans had access only to laser guns.

He described the Fox units as the weakest type of robot, saying far larger and more powerful military machines also existed.

To avoid detection, survivors allegedly hid in forests and caves because the robots primarily tracked humans using signals transmitted from space.

However, he claimed the machines eventually adapted their tactics.

‘The robots soon realized that they could just burn the forests to deprive people of their only shelter,’ he said.

During one of his alleged expeditions, the man claimed he encountered a humanoid robot that looked remarkably human.

The machine allegedly had ‘skin, hair, eyes and artificial blood’ flowing through cable-like veins and had been captured by survivors after they disabled its GPS tracker.

‘I spoke with that robot, and what was interesting, his behavior was very similar to human beings,’ he said. ‘He was scared. He didn’t want to die. He knew what death was and was in depression.’

The alleged traveler claimed the robots’ ultimate goal was to create ‘a new empire’ free of all life on Earth.

‘They had a dream to make this planet a place without humans, animals, plants and any organic creature,’ he said.

He went on to claim that during his time working in Canada’s national security apparatus, he participated in 18 expeditions to the year 3700 and brought back numerous items from the future.

According to his story, he repeatedly urged officials to warn the public about the coming apocalypse but was ignored.

‘I understood that it is our duty to tell people the truth, but nobody listened to me,’ he said.

He then claimed he stole the robotic hand shown in the video and fled the laboratory where he worked, saying he now lives somewhere in Asia and keeps his location secret because unnamed individuals are trying to find and kill him.

‘They want to kill me because I am the only person who ran away from their company and the only person that wants to tell the truth,’ he alleged.

The video ended with a warning about artificial intelligence.

‘Robots have to become a technology that should help us, not kill. They should be our friends, but not our enemies. They can be our workers, but not our leaders,’ he said.

Revitalize Your Posture: Five Effective Standing Exercises to Combat Hunching Beyond 60

Rounded shoulders after 60? Discover five standing exercises recommended by a professional trainer to improve your posture.

    >

In our everyday routines, it’s easy to unintentionally develop a forward-leaning posture. With hours spent in front of screens, performing errands, and enduring long periods of sitting, a rounded upper back can begin to feel all too common. By the day’s end, this might leave your chest feeling constricted, your shoulders protruding forward, and the act of standing upright requiring more effort than it should.

When guiding individuals over 60 on improving their posture, I emphasize integrating mobility along with strength training. Mobility exercises help to loosen the chest, shoulders, and upper back, providing them more room to maneuver. Meanwhile, building strength in the muscles surrounding the shoulder blades enhances their ability to maintain a proper position once it is achieved. This blend of strategies proves more effective than relying solely on stretching.

It’s also important to consider how your posture is influenced throughout the day outside of workouts. Incorporating a few quick posture checks can help to reset your alignment before a rounded position becomes ingrained. The following standing exercises are designed to cultivate both movement and strength, enabling you to stand taller, more organized, and making an upright posture feel more instinctive.

    Wall Angels

Wall angels help your shoulders and upper back move through a greater range of motion, while the wall provides feedback on your posture. Your upper back, rear shoulders, and rotator cuff work to guide your arms up and down without your ribs flaring or your shoulders shrugging. This exercise can feel challenging even without resistance because it asks you to control your position rather than simply reach overhead. Keep the range comfortable and let your mobility improve gradually.

A wall pec stretch with reach opens the front of your chest and shoulders while gently encouraging your upper back to rotate. That matters because a rounded posture often comes with a front side that feels restricted and an upper back that has stopped moving as freely. The reach adds a little active control, which makes the stretch more useful than simply hanging in one position. Keep the rotation smooth and stay in a range that feels comfortable.

Muscles Trained: Chest, front shoulders, upper back, obliques.

    How to Do It:

    1. Stand beside a wall with your right hand placed on it at shoulder height.
    2. Keep your right arm mostly straight with a soft bend in the elbow.
    3. Turn your chest gently away from the wall until you feel a stretch across your chest.
    4. Reach your left arm forward as you rotate slightly through your upper back.
    5. Pause for a breath.
    6. Return to the starting position and repeat before switching sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 8 reps per side. Rest for 20 to 30 seconds between sides.

Best Variations: Lower-arm pec stretch, higher-arm pec stretch, slow-tempo pec stretch with reach.

Form Tip: Turn through your chest and upper back to lengthen the stretch.

    Band Pull-Aparts

Band pull-aparts strengthen the rear shoulders and upper-back muscles that help guide your shoulder blades into a more upright position. The movement gives you a simple way to train the opposite pattern of all the reaching and pressing that happens during a normal day. A light band is enough when you keep the reps smooth and avoid letting your neck take over. This is an easy exercise to perform regularly because the setup is simple and the movement stays controlled.

Muscles Trained: Rear delts, rhomboids, middle traps, rotator cuff, upper back.

    How to Do It:

    1. Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart.
    2. Hold a light resistance band at shoulder height with your arms straight.
    3. Brace your core and relax your shoulders away from your ears.
    4. Pull the band apart until your hands move out to your sides.
    5. Pause briefly as your shoulder blades come together.
    6. Return to the starting position with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set.

    Best Variations: Underhand pull-aparts, diagonal pull-aparts, slow-tempo pull-aparts.

Form Tip: Keep your ribs stacked and avoid leaning backward as you pull the band apart.

5 Daily Exercises That Firm Tummy Roll Faster Than Gym Sessions After 55

    Standing Band Face Pull

Standing band face pulls build the upper-back and shoulder strength that helps your body resist a rounded position. The pull combines a row with external rotation, which trains the rear shoulders and rotator cuff while asking your shoulder blades to move with control. It also gives you a strong posture cue: pull tall, keep your neck long, and let your elbows travel wide. Use a light band so you can control the return on every rep.

Muscles Trained: Rear delts, rhomboids, middle traps, lower traps, rotator cuff, biceps.

    How to Do It:

    1. Anchor a resistance band at eye level.
    2. Stand facing the anchor with your feet hip-width apart.
    3. Hold the ends of the band with your palms facing down.
    4. Pull the band toward your forehead or nose.
    5. Draw your elbows out and back as your hands separate slightly.
    6. Return to the starting position with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Half-kneeling face pulls, single-arm face pulls, slow-tempo face pulls.

Form Tip: Keep your shoulders down and away from your ears as you pull.

    Farmer Carry

Farmer carries strengthen your grip, upper back, shoulders, core, hips, and legs while reinforcing a taller walking posture. Once you pick up the weights, your body has to organize itself around the load. Your upper back helps keep the shoulders from rolling forward, while your core keeps your ribs and pelvis steady as you walk. This makes the carry a useful finishing exercise for anyone who wants posture work to show up outside the workout.

Muscles Trained: Upper back, shoulders, forearms, grip, core, glutes, quadriceps, calves.

    How to Do It:

    1. Hold a dumbbell or kettlebell in each hand at your sides.
    2. Stand tall with your chest open and your shoulders relaxed.
    3. Brace your core and keep your ribs stacked over your hips.
    4. Walk forward with short, controlled steps.
    5. Keep your arms long and avoid letting the weights pull your shoulders forward.
    6. Turn carefully and continue until the set ends.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 20 to 40 seconds. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Suitcase carries, light kettlebell carries, slow-tempo farmer carries.

Form Tip: Walk tall and keep your gaze straight ahead instead of looking down at your feet.

6 Home Exercises That Restore Muscle Tone Faster Than Gym Classes After 60

How to Improve Posture Throughout the Day After 60

These exercises work best when they support the way you move outside the workout. Use them two to four times per week, then give yourself a few short posture resets during the day.

    • Set a simple cue: Think “tall chest, relaxed shoulders, eyes forward” when you stand up, walk, or wait in line.
    • Break up long sitting periods: Stand, take a short walk, or perform a few wall slides after extended stretches in one position.
    • Keep the work balanced: Pair chest-opening mobility with upper-back strength so your body has both room to move and the strength to stay organized.
    • Progress gradually: Add a few reps, use a slightly stronger band, or carry a little more weight once the current version feels solid.

Better posture is built through repetition. Give your shoulders and upper back regular practice, stay aware of how you carry yourself through the day, and a taller position can start to feel easier to hold.

Judge Dismisses Attempted Murder Charges Against California Father in Alleged Cliff Plunge Incident

    0

Charges of attempted murder against a California radiologist, accused of purposefully driving his family off a cliff, were dismissed on Monday.

A San Mateo County judge decided to drop the allegations against 45-year-old Dharmesh Patel. This decision came after medical professionals reported that Patel had significantly improved in the mental health program he was initially required to join, according to a report by FOX San Francisco.

In July 2024, Patel, a Pasadena-based radiologist, was instructed to participate in a two-year mental health diversion initiative. During this time, he was to reside at his parents’ home in Belmont under GPS monitoring.

The incident took place in January 2023 when Patel, driving his Tesla along the Pacific Coast Highway in San Mateo County, veered off Devil’s Slide in Pacifica, sending the car plummeting 300 feet with his family aboard.

First responders were forced to cut his family, including Patel’s 41-year-old wife, 7-year-old daughter, and 4-year-old son, out of the wreckage. Everyone survived.

At the time of the incident, Patel was having delusions driven by the war in Ukraine and the growing fentanyl crisis in the United States, his lawyers argued during a 2024 court hearing.

Patel’s greatest delusion, according to a psychologist, was his fear that his children could be kidnapped and molested, which appeared somehow connected to his concerns about Jeffrey Epstein.

Shortly after the crash, Patel’s wife, Neha, said her husband “did it on purpose” and needed a “psych evaluation.” In addition, she said her husband was depressed, according to court documents.

“He said he was going to drive off the cliff,” she said.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe, who opposed Patel’s placement in the diversion program, criticized the decision to dismiss the case.

“He got the break of a lifetime,” Wagstaffe told the Mercury News.

After the ruling, Patel embraced his wife, and they left the courtroom together, the newspaper reported.

Palm Springs Anticipates Opening of First In-N-Out Location Soon

    0

Despite encountering a minor setback, the highly anticipated debut of the first In-N-Out Burger in Palm Springs is still moving forward.

On Monday night, the Palm Springs Planning Commission temporarily withheld final approval for the new restaurant located at 1801 E. Palm Canyon Drive within the Smoke Tree Village Shopping Plaza. The commission has requested further design evaluation before allowing the famed burger chain to commence operations.

This decision followed nearly three hours of discussion, with both commissioners and community members voicing concerns that the updated design — featuring a lighter exterior and enhanced landscaping — did not yet adequately capture the mid-century modern architectural style synonymous with Palm Springs.

Representatives from In-N-Out defended the site’s tailored design. Nonetheless, the commission chose to extend the review process, requiring the project to incorporate suggested modifications before obtaining final architectural approval.

The journey for the restaurant’s approval began in 2024, with the Planning Commission granting preliminary consent in 2025. City officials had initially projected the opening to occur by late 2027 or early 2028.

During Monday’s meeting, some commissioners expressed their frustration regarding the multiple design revisions, with one describing the proposed architectural updates as putting “lipstick on a pig,” according to News Channel 3.

Despite the delay, the project remains on track to bring the popular California burger chain to the heart of the Coachella Valley. No new timeline has been announced.

The news comes as Palm Springs continues to grow in popularity, with residents and visitors eager for more dining options, including the beloved In-N-Out experience.

Until the new desert spot opens, the closest In-N-Out locations are around a 20-minute drive from Palm Springs in Rancho Mirage and Thousand Palms.
